Effect of Biphenyl Dimethyl Dicarboxylate on the Immunosuppression of Ketokonazole (비페닐 디메칠 디카르복실레이트가 케토코나졸의 면역억제에 미치는 영향)

  • Ketoconazole is an imidazole antifungal agent which inhibits the biosynthesis of fungal cellmembrane ergosterol and has immunosuppressive properties in vitro. Biphenyl dimethyl dicarboxylate (PMC) has been utilized for antioxidative action and for liver-protective purposes. Studies were undertaken to investigate effects of biphenyl dimethyl dicarboxylate (PMC) on the immunosuppression of ketoconazole in ICR mice. In the combination of PMC and ketoconazole, as compared with the treatment of ketoconazole alone, there were significant increases in activities of natural killer (NK) cells and phagocytes along with circulation leukocytes. The elevation of serum glutamic-pyruvic transaminase (S-GPT) and total protein levels caused by ketoconazole were reduced by the combination of PMC and ketoconazole. In addition, lower serum albumin and albumin/globulin (A/G) ratio were also increased to normal level.

  • Propyl gallate used as an antioxidant was examined for its effects on murine immune system. As immunotoxicology assay parameters, we adopted circulating leukocytes and immunoorgan weights for pathotoxicology, delayed hypersensitivity and colloidal carbon clearance for cell mediated immuntity. Propyl gallate's effects were observed as follows; 1) Propyl gallate decreased circulating leukocyte counts, dose dependently. 2) Propyl gallate decreased delayed hypersensitivity reaction. 3) Phagocytic index were similar in the test and control groups.

  • In the result of investigating traditional chinese medical literatures to understand definite immunopharmacologic effects of drugs for clearing away heat and detoxicating such as Ampelopsis Radix, Rhapontici Radix, Cremastrae Appendiculatae Tuber, Rhaseoli Radiati Semen, Potentillae Discolohs Herba, Potentillae Chinensis Herba, Chrysanthemi Indici Flos, Lomcerae Caulis, we could reach conclusions as follows: 1. Rhapontici Radix, Chrysanthemi Indici Flos can increase voracity of leukocytes, macrophages and increase to produce IL-2 by splenocytes. 2. Potentillae Chinensis Herba, Chrysanthemi Indici Flos, Lonicerae Caulis can inhibit activities of B lymphocytes and have anti-inflammatory effects. 3. Drugs for clearing away heat and detoxicating almost have antibiotic, anti-inflammatory effects, and so can be applied to many inflammatory immune diseases. 4. Drugs for clearing away heat and detoxicating also have antifebrile, diuretic, detoxicating effects. Above results indicates that Drugs for clearing away heat and detoxicating have immunosuppressive effect, so that can be applied to many inflammatory immune diseases.

  • In the result of investigating traditional chinese medical literatures to understand definite immun opharmacologic effects of drugs for clearing away heat and detoxicating such as Oldenlandiae Diffusae Herba, Fel Ursi, Fraxini Cortex, Pulsatillae Radix, Bruceae Fructus, Portulacea Herba, Patriniae Radix, we could reach conclusions as follows: 1. Oldenlandiae Diffusae Herba can increase voracity of leukocytes and immune function of splen ocytes. 2. Fel Ursi, Patriniae Radix can inhibit acute, chronic inflammation by decreasing voracity of macrophages, monocytes and recover lymphocytes. 3. Fraxini Cortex have anti-inflammatory effect then applied to treat with arthritis. Pulsatillae Radix, Bruceae Fructus, Portulacea Herba have anti-cancer, anti-biotic effects. Above results indicates that drugs for clearing away heat immunosuppressive effect that they can apply to all sorts of inflammatory diseases such as arthritis, DTH, SLE, and cancer.

  • Radiation therapy is an effective treatment modality for malignant disease of the head and neck, but it is not without risk and complication. Response of the larynx to radiotherapy varies from mild erythema to severe inflammation with edema and induration. possibly leading to necrosis of cartilage. These changes are due to an inflammatory reaction characterized by infiltration of polymorphonuclear leukocytes, vascular thrombosis, and obliteration of lymphatic channels. Late changes consist of telangiectasia of the skin, alopecia, loss of subcutaneous fat, degenerative changes in the connective tissues. But, radiation necrosis of laryngeal cartilage is an uncommon complication and it is a devastating process for which further necessitates surgical treatment. It is generally agreed that the only treatment for patient not responding to conservative measures is a total laryngectomy. We experienced 4 cases of delayed radionecrosis of the larynx who underwent radiation therapy for glottic cancer and hypopharyngeal cancer. We report these cases with review of literature.

Sophorae tonkinensis Radix, Houttuyniae Herba can increase voracity of leukocytes and activities of T cells. 2. Sophorae tonkinensis Radix, Smilacis glabrae Rhizoma can inhibit DTH. 3. Sophorae tonkinensis Radix, Houttuyniae Herba increase activities of B cells in low density but decrease activities of B cells in high density. 4. Sophorae tonkinensis Radix, Houttuyniae Herba, Smilacis glabrae Rhizoma, Belamcandae Rhizoma have anti-inflammatory effects. Studies about drugs for clearing away heat and detoxicating is on. but their range is wide and their effects are numerous. Therefore. we think that more deep and wide researches about them shoud be accomplished.

  • The author has observed the tissue reaction of the absolute alcohol infection of rat oral mucosa. 0.5ml absolute alcohol was injected subcutaneously on the mucobuccal fold of rat. And the rats were sacrifieced at intervals of one day, 3rd, 1 week, 2 week and 4 week after alcohol injection. The microscopic tissue sections were made and stained with hematoxylin and eosin. The results were are as follows; 1. Degeneration and shrinkage of fibroblasts and coagulative necrosis were observed one day to and three day after alcohol injection. 2. Although coagulative necrosis and tissue degeneration occurred, the inflammatory infiltration was not prominent especially there were scarcely any polymorphonuclear leukocytes in that field. 3. Granulation tissue with moderate small round cell infiltration were replaced the necrotic area at one week after injection and the fibroblast proliferate into the granulation tissue at two week group. 4.   • The purpose of this study was to determine the close relation between clinical symptom and histopathologic finding in pulp. 20 samples of pulp tissue were collected from badly decayed teeth with considerable pulp vitality. Hemogram was also made with the first drop of bleedieg after total pulp extirpation (10cases) and vital pulpotomy(10cases). Histologic specimen was made routinely with extirpated pulp and stained by H&E and P.A.S. Stains. The results under microsopic examination were as follows; 1. Hemogram obtained from dental pulp with acute inflammation revealed increase of polymorphonuclear leukocyte in number, more lymphocytes and monocytes. 2. Hemogram from pulp with chronic inflammation shown the number of lymphocyte and monocyte was remarkably increased. 3. Histologi specimen obtained from teeth with severe clinical symptome showed polymorphonuclear leukocyte infiltration and the hemogram also showed polymorphonuclear leukocytes. 4. Specimen from teeth with moderate symptom showed lymphocyte infiltration and vessel dilatation underneath decayed area. Erythrocytes were massively accumulated inside of the vessel wall.

  • Water-soluble pectins isolated from Trichosanthes Rhizoma and Taraxii Herba and their deproteinized polysaccharides were purified through DEAE cellulose column and were applied to immunopotentiating and antitumor studies to clarify the nature of their activities of our previous reports. As the results of works, the lectins and deproteinized polysaccharides increased the number of circulating leukocytes and total peritoneal cells. And they markedly elevated the lowered production of antibody and reactivity of T Iymphocyte in tumor-bearing mice, which were rapidly recovered by discontinuance of sample treatments. They also decreased the growth of Sarcoma 180 solid tumor in mice.
