도씨소시호탕(陶氏小柴胡湯)에 대한 연구(硏究) (Study on the Dossisosihotang)

  • Objectives : 28 prescriptions with the name 'Dossi' can be found in Yixuerumen, and all these prescriptions are highly useful due to their clinical effectiveness. Among them, Dossisosihotang has an important role as the essential prescription utilizing harmonizing and releasing formula. Therefore, this paper aims to ponder upon this prescription. Methods : Dossisosihotang's origin and effectiveness were studied, and the findings served as the basis for analyzing the varied forms of this prescription which came about in the later generations in order to consider more detailed usage of this prescription. Results & Conclusions : Dossisosihotang directs its patient to consume sosihotang added with chenpi, shaoyao, chuanxiong, then simmered, and added with three spoons worth of raw wormwood juice. Its origin can be traced back to shachechuifa's 'Sihossanghaeeum,' and it is mainly effective for treating the blood aspect syndrome of lesser yang disease such as women's cold damage and heat entering the blood chamber. In treating the symptom of half-exterior and half-interior, taohua developed prescriptions depending on the syndrome, such as Sihijigyungtang, Sihohamhyoungtang, Samhosambacktang, Siryungtang, Sihosamultang, Sigalhaegitang, and Samhoseoggotang. These prescriptions became widely known for their clinical efficacy, leading to many later generations of clinical doctors to use them.

고양이 연수 복외측부 세포의 동맥혈압 조절에 관한 연구 (Role of the ventrolateral medulla of the cat in vasomotor regulation)

  • Vasomotor areas were identified by stimulating various sites of the medulla electrically in adult cats anesthetized with a-chloralose and their correlation with somatosympathetic pressor or depressor responses was investigated. Followings are the results obtained: 1. Pressor areas were found in the rostral ventrolateral, the caudal ventrolateral and the rostral dorsolateral medulla. 2. Separate depressor areas were found dorsal and ventral to the rostral ventrolateral pressor area. 3. Some areas showed biphasic responses: depressor responses to low frequency[1 \ulcorner2 Hz] and pressor responses to high frequency[20 \ulcorner100 Hz] stimulation 4. Lesions on the rostral ventrolateral pressor areas abolished the somatosympathetic pressor responses to the stimulation of peripheral afferent nerves, while the depressor responses remained. Lesions on the caudal ventrolateral pressor area affected neither the pressor nor depressor responses to the peripheral nerve stimulation. 5. Lesions on the depressor areas resulted in decreased depressor responses to the peripheral nerve stimulation, but to a lesser degree than that resulted from lesions on the pressor areas. 6. A microinjection of glutamate solution to the pressor area resulted in a prolonged pressor response, while glutamate injection to the depressor areas did not elicit depressor responses. From the above results, it is concluded that there are separate pressor and depressor areas in the rostral medulla of cats and each area plays a role in somatosympathetic pressor and depressor responses, respectively.

제주도 대정유역의 수리전도도 적용에 따른 지하수 모델링 결과 평가 (Assessment of Groundwater Flow Modeling according to Hydraulic Conductivity Zonation in the Dae-jeong Watershed of Jeju Island)

  • In this study, groundwater flow was analyzed targeting Dae-jeong watershed, which exhibited the largest variations of groundwater levels at the identical elevation points among the 16 watersheds of Jeju Island. The issues of the methods applied in practice were identified and improvement plans were suggested. This groundwater-flow estimates derived by applying hydraulic conductivity values onto zones of equal topographic ground level were found to be quite different from actual measured groundwater flow. Conversely, groundwater-flow estimates that utilized hydraulic conductivity values applied onto groundwater-level equipotential lines indicated relatively lesser divergences from actual measured groundwater flow. The reliabilities of the two approaches were assessed for 60 randomly selected points on DEM (digital elevation model) maps, The method using hydraulic conductivity values applied onto groundwater-level contours turned out to be the more reliable approach for the Dae-jeong watershed in Jeju Island.

  • This experiment was designed to investigate the effect of the ODTCMT and DDTCMT extract on protecting microglia and inhibiting acetylcholinesterase and oxidants. The effects of the ODTCMT and DDTCMT extract on cell death of BV2 microglial cell line treated by $IFN-{\gamma}$ ; expression of NO, ROS in BV2 microglial cell line treated by lipopolysaccharide (LPS) ; AChE activity in PC-12 cell treated by NGF were investigated, respectively. The ODTCMT and DDTCMT extract significantly increased cell viability in BV2 microglial cell line treated with $IFN-\nu$. The ODTCMT and DDTCMT extract suppressed the NO and RDS production in BV2 microglial cell line treated by LPS. The ODTCMT and DDTCMT extract groups also showed inhibition of AChE activity in PC-12 cell line. According to the above result, it is suggested that the ODTCMT and DDTCMT extract might be usefully applied for prevention and treatment of Alzheimer's disease. Earthworm Enhanced Bioaugmentation of PCB Contaminated Soil

  • In a recently developed strategy for in-situ treatment of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB), bioaugmentation was used in conjunction with a surfactant, sorbitan trioleate, as a carbon source for the degrader bacteria, along with the monoterpene, carvone, and salicylic acid as inducing substrates. Two bacteria were used for soil inoculants, including Arthrobacter sp. st. B1B and Ralstonia eutrophus H850. This methodology achieved 60% degradation of PCBs in Aroclor 1242 after 18 weeks in soils receiving 34 repeated applications of the degrader bacteria. However, an obvious limitation was the requirement for soil mixing after every soil inoculation. In the research reported here, bioaugmentation and biostimulation treatment strategies were modified by using the earthworm, Pheretima hawayana, as a vector for dispersal and mixing of surface-applied PCB-degrading bacteria and soil chemical amendments. Changes in microbial biomass and microbial community structure due to earthworm effects were examined using DNA extraction and PCR-DGGE of 16S rDNA. Results showed that earthworms effectively promoted biodegradation of PCBs in bioaugmented soils to the same extent previously achieved using physical soil mixing, and had a lesser, but significant effect in promoting PCB biodegradation in biostimulated soils treated with carvone and salicylic acid. The effects of earthworms were speculated to involve many interacting factors including increased bacterial transport to lower soil depths, improved soil aeration, and enhanced microbial activity and diversity.

대승기탕의 방론에 대한 고찰 (Consideration in the Interpretation of the Daeseunggi-tang)

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study was to investigate the interpretation of the Daeseunggi-tang(DST) in order to obtain the evidence for clinical applications.Methods and Results : We have analyzed the interpretation on the DST through translations and comparisons based on classic books about the oriental medical prescriptions.Conclusion : 1. 'Dae(大)' in DST means 'strong symptoms' or 'strong efficacy'. 'Seung(承)' in DST means 'smooth (順)', 'attach(連)' and 'serve(奉)'. 2. The main pathogenesis of DST's syndrome are heat binding(熱結)·qi stagnation(氣滯). 3. The main areas where disease pattern of DST is 'Yang brightness(陽明)'. It is also associated with 'Lesser yin (少陰)', 'Qi aspect(氣分)·Blood aspect(血分)' and 'Triple Energizer(三焦)'. 4. Laxative the Rhei Radix et Rhizoma(大黃) is sovereign medicinal(君藥) of DST, because of removing the heat binding(熱結) and the heat that spread throughout the body.

정맥수율별 쌀보리쌀의 일반 성분 및 무기질 함량 (Proximate Composition and Mineral Content of Naked Barley Differing in Pearling Degrees)

  • 쌀보리(새쌀보리)의 주된 입자(7-10 mesh)를 5% 씩 정맥하고 정맥수율 70-100%인 쌀보리쌀의 일반성분과 무기질 함량을 분석 하였다. 단백질, 회분 및 지방 모두 정맥수율이 감소될수록 감소되었으며 단백질의 감소율이 적었다. 무기질도 일반성분과 비슷한 경향 이었으나, 정맥수율이 낮을수록 인, 칼륨, 마그네슘 및 나트륨은 그 함량이 크게 감소하였고, 철 및 칼슘은 완만한 감소를 보였다.

  • To ensure the safety of the tunnelling without the loss of economy, the tunnel seismic profiling(TSP) method for the prediction ahead of tunnel face, begins to be used routinely in these days. TSP method does not interfere the tunnelling works while the horizontal drilling does, and its prediction length is longer than that of the drilling. Yet the most frequently adopted technique of TSP in Korea is the multi-shot and 2 receiver array using in-hole receivers, even though this array requires as many as 26 drill-holes for receiver installation and ballasting, which results in 3-6 hours of suspension in excavation work. In this paper, multi-receiver and lesser shot array using side-wall attached 3 component geophones is to be described to prove the efficiency in terms of the survey time as well as the reliability of the method by comparison of the predicted weak points and the face mapping results. The predictions mostly agreed with the real fractures or joint developed zones which have been confirmed during the excavation. It also has been found that TSP method can be effectively applied to perform draining ground water ahead of tunnel face by imaging the geologic discontinuities.

A Case of Long-Term Complete Remission of Advanced Gastric Adenocarcinoma with Liver Metastasis

  • We report the case of a patient with gastric adenocarcinoma with multiple liver metastases. This patient showed complete remission for more than 68 months after S-1/cisplatin combination chemotherapy and radical total gastrectomy. The patient, a 63-year-old man, presented with dyspepsia and difficulty in swallowing. Endoscopic findings showed a huge ulcero-infiltrative mass at the lesser curvature of the mid-body, extending to the distal esophagus. Biopsy revealed a poorly differentiated tubular adenocarcinoma. An abdominal computed tomography scan demonstrated multiple hepatic metastases. S-1/cisplatin combination chemotherapy was initiated, and following completion of six cycles of chemotherapy, the gastric masses and hepatic metastatic lesions had disappeared on abdominal computed tomography. Radical total gastrectomy and D2 lymphadenectomy combined with splenectomy were performed. The patient underwent three cycles of S-1/cisplatin combination chemotherapy followed by tegafur-uracil therapy for 1 year. He remained in complete remission for more than 68 months after surgery.

Generation of ovine recombinant prion protein (25-232): Characterisation via anti-PrP monoclonal antibodies and CD spectroscopy

  • In prion pathogenesis, the structural conversion of the cellular prion protein $(PrP^c)$ to its abnormal isomer $(PrP^{Sc})$ is believed to be a major event. The susceptibility or resistance to natural sheep scrapie is associated with polymorphisms of host PrP gene (PRNP) at amino acid residues 136, to a lesser extent 154. The 112 residue in ovine PrP displays a natural polymorphism, Methionine to Threonine, which has not been thoroughly investigated. However the cell-free conversion assay showed that ARQ with Thr112 $(T_{112}ARQ)^{1)}$ presents lower convertibility to $PrP^{Sc}$than wild type ARQ $(M_{112}ARQ)$ [1] In this study we generated ovine recombinant PrPs of 112 allelic variants by metal chelate affinity chromatography and cation exchange chromatography. The final purity of the ovine PrP ARQ was more than $95\%$. These variants showed similar immunoreactivity against anti-PrP monoclonal antibodies in Western blot and ELISA. The refolded $M_{112}ARQ$ and $M_{112}ARQ$ presented the secondary structural content to similar extent via CD spectroscopy analysis. The inherited structural features of $M_{112}ARQ$ and $M_{112}ARQ$ under the different biophysical conditions are in the middle of investigation.
