Radiotherapy which is the most effective for orbit lymphoma has been used increasingly due to the increase of orbit or ocular adnexal tumor patients. Curative effects and convalescence have been being more satisfied thanks to remarkable development of cancer chemotherapy and medical treatments, but side effects such as cataract, dry eye and retinopathy still break out. Thus, in this study, a Lens Shielding Device (LSD hereafter) was designed to prevent occurring of cataract due to radiation therapy for orbit lymphoma and its efficacy through dosimetry were evaluated. And in this paper, its manufacturing process was also explained. LSD is composed of a cover body covering the lens and a side fixing part supporting the cover body. To measure radiation, the patient therapy conditions were simulated and the measurement of the radiation was conducted with Thermo Luminescence Detector (TLD) and Markus chamber. The average TLD value was 5.7% and the TLD value and Markus chamber value were acquired as 4.2% and 5.1% respectively at 6 mm depth where zero lens center was located. Only 1.5Gy ($300Gy{\times}\;5%$) or 5% of total 30Gy with 9 MeV electron beam is estimated to affect on patient's lens. That is smaller dose than the threshold value of cataract (2GY) or the value (5Gy) that was reported to cause cataract in clinical conditions. Thus, these findings suggest that LSD be very useful for prevention of cataract during radiotherapy for malignant lymphoma of orbit and ocular adnexa. Furthermore, it might be possible to reduce patient's discomfort caused by alien substances and to make it easier to fix the device with customized manufacturing manners.

In this study, radiation doses of major organs in various postures in lower extremity teleography were measured and compared to investigate the utility of the test methods. Ten adult males who underwent lower extremity teleography at a tube voltage of 73 kVp, tube current of 32 mAs, and SID of 180 cm. Using rando phantom, glass dosimeter was attached to the eye lens, thyroid gland, and genital gland to measure the radiation dose in each area 5 times in each anteroposterior posture and posteroanterior posture. The results were compared and analyzed through Paired T-test. The images from the anteroposterior posture and posteroanterior posture were evaluated through the blind test on a scale of 5. As a result, the posteroanterior method could reduce the dose than the anteroposterior posture method: less dose for the eye lens by 6%, thyroid gland by 6%, and genital gland by 26%. Since there was no significant difference in image evaluation, the posteroanterior posture is considered better than the anteroposterior posture in lower extremity teleography.

The organ or tissue doses were determined with head and neck phantom measurement for multiple axial scans (36 slices), multiple coronal scans (13 slices), 3 types of single axial scans(orbit, maxillary sinus and mandibular canal) and single coronal scan (maxillary sinus). For each scan sequence 30 TLDs were placed in selected sites(16 internal sites and 14 external sites) in a tissue-equivalent phantom. The exposure was made at 120kVp, 500mAs with 5 mm slice width. The results were as follows : 1. In multiple axial scans, the greatest effective dose recorded was that delivered to the thyroid glands(2.77 mSv) and the least was that received by the skin(0.05 mSv). From these data, stochastic effects were 202.2x10/sup -6/ and 3.7×10/sup -6/, respectively. 2. In multiple coronal scans, the greatest effective dose recorded was that delivered to the salivary glands(0.58 mSv) and the least was that received by the skin(0.01 mSv). From these data, stochastic effects were 42.2×10/sup -6/ and 0.7×10/sup -6/, repectively. 3. Among single axial scans, the greatest effective dose recorded was that delivered to the salivary gland(0.38 mSv) in maxillary sinus scan. From this data, stochastic effect was 27.7×10/sup -6/. 4. In single coronal scan, the greatest effective dose recorded was that delivered to the salivary gland(0.01 mSv). From this data, stochastic effect was 1.0×10/sup -6/. 5. The equivalent dose measured that delivered to the lens of the eyes was 69.64 mSv in multiple axial scan, 39.32 mSv in multiple coronal scan and 36.77 mSv in single axial scan(orbit).
In the present study, we established a comprehensive dataset of dose coefficients (DCs) of the new meshtype ICRP reference computational phantoms (MRCPs) for idealized external exposures of photons and electrons with the Geant4 code. Subsequently, the DCs for the nine organs/tissues, calculated for their thin radiosensitive target regions, were compared with the values calculated by averaging the absorbed doses over the entire organ/tissue regions to observe the influence of the thin sensitive regions on dose calculations. The result showed that the influences for both photons and electrons were generally insignificant for the majority of organs/tissues, but very large for the skin and eye lens, especially for electrons. Furthermore, the large influence for the skin eventually affected the effective dose calculations for electrons. The DCs of the MRCPs also were compared with the current ICRP-116 values produced with the current ICRP-110 reference phantoms. The result showed that the DCs for the majority of organs/ tissues and effective dose were generally similar to the ICRP-116 values for photons, except for very low energies; however, for electrons, significant differences from the ICRP-116 values were found in the DCs, particularly for superficial organs/tissues and skeletal tissues, and also for effective dose.
The eye of human is a radiation sensitive organ and this organ should be shielded from radiation exposure during brain CT procedures. In the brain CT procedures, bismuth protector using to reduce the radiation exposure dose for eye. But protecting the bismuth always accompanies problem of the image quality reduction including artifact. This study aim is the eye radiation exposure dose and image quality evaluation of the new tube current modulation such as new organ based-tube current modulation, longitudinal-TCM, angular-TCM between shielding scan technique using bismuth and lead glasses. As a result, radiation dose of eye is reduced 25.88% in new OB TCM technique then reference scan technique and SNR new OB TCM is 6.05 higher than bismuth shielding scan technique and lower than reference scan technique. In clinical brain CT, new OB TCM technique will contribute to reduction of radiation dose for eye without decrease of image quality.
In this paper, an optical dosimetric system for radiation dose measurement is developed and characterized for 100 MeV proton beams in KOMAC(Korea Multi-Purpose Accelerator Complex). The system consists of 10 wt% Ultima GoldTM liquid organic scintillator in the ethanol, a camera lens(50 mm / f1.8), and a high sensitivity CMOS(complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor) camera (ASI120MM, ZWO Co.). The FOV(field of view) of the system is designed to be 150 mm at a distance of 2 m. This system showed sufficient linearity in the range of 1~40 Gy for the 100 MeV proton beams in KOMAC. We also successfully got the percentage depth dose and the isodose curves of the 100 MeV proton beams from the captured images. Because the solvent is not a human tissue equivalent material, we can not directly measure the absorbed dose of the human body. Through this study, we have established the optical dosimetric procedure and propose a new volume dose assessment method.
The purpose of this study is to compare the reduction of the dose radioactivity by CARE kV with that of the Bismuth shielding. First, CT was performed with transparent materials, including a Bismuth shielder which is a well-known material for decreasing the dose of radiation. Moreover, we have estimated and compared the affects of the reduction of dose on eye lens, thyroid, breast and genitals. These steps aim to compare reactions with and without the application of the Rando phantom with PLD as well as with CARE kV or not. As a result, during the Brain angio scan, the dose of CARE kV set inspection test methods showed the least dose. Depending on whether we use CARE kV, which showed the effect of dose reduction by 63%. During the Carotid angio scan, the dose was increased by 13% by how to set CARE kV+Bismuth. During the Cardiac angio scan, which showed the effect of dose reduction by 31% by how to set CARE kV+Bismuth. During the Lower extremity angio scan, the dose was measured least by how to set up the whole Bismuth. Compared with CARE kV set of test methods, which showed the effect of dose reduction by 9%.

The use of WBRT(whole brain radiation therapy) has increased due to the increase in the incidence of metastatic brain tumors. The development of radiation therapy techniques is expected to improve the quality of life. The VMAT (Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy) is an excellent treatment technique that can distinguish the dose in each volume. Therefore, this study compared conventional WBRT and VMAT for hair loss according to the scalp dose using a head phantom. The CI (Conformity Index), HI (Homogeneity Index) and QOC (Quality of Coverage) were measured brain tissue. A 20 percent and 50 percent dose was measured at the scalp, eyeball, lens, and c-spine. Conventional WBRT is excellent at 10 percent of brain tissue. VMAT is far superior at 1000 percent at the other organs. VMAT at the prescribed dose can be used as radiation therapy of metastatic brain tumors with less hair loss.
Background: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficacy and feasibility of non- coplanar whole brain radiotherapy (NC-WBRT) for parotid sparing. Methods: Fifteen cases, previously treated with WBRT were selected. NC-WBRT plans were generated. The beam arrangement for the non-coplanar plans consisted of superior anterior, right, and left beams. After generation of the non-coplanar plans a field-in-field technique was applied to the bilateral parallel opposed beams in order to reduce maximum dose and increase dose homogeneity. The NC-WBRT plans were subsequently compared with the previously generated bilateral WBRT (B-WBRT) plans. A field-in-field technique was also used with the B-WBRT plans according to our departmental protocol. As per our institutional practice a total dose of 30 Gy in 10 fractions of WBRT was administered 5 days a week. Results: The mean dose to the parotid gland for the two different plans were 16.2 Gy with B-WBRT and 13.7 Gy with NC-WBRT (p<0.05). In the NC-WBRT plan, the V5Gy, V10Gy, V15Gy, V20Gy, and V25Gy of the parotid were significantly lower (p<0.05) than those of the B-WBRT plan. The $D_{max}$ of the lens was also lower by 10% with NC-WBRT. Conclusion: The use of NC-WBRT plans could be a simple and effective method to reduce irradiated volumes and improve the dose-volume parameters of the parotid gland.
The skull has peripheral organs such as the crystalline lens and thyroid gland, which are highly radiosensitive, but the examination is performed without considering the uneven dose distribution due to the heel effect at the time of the current Skull Town's examination. However, no studies have been conducted on the exposure dose of surrounding organ tissues due to the difference in image density due to the heel effect and the non-uniformity of the dose. Using the cathode (-) and anode (+) set on the Tube to measure the scattered radiation along the Tube direction as a guide, change 30° and 37° in the cathode direction and 30° and 37° in the anode direction. It was given and investigated 5 times to obtain scattered radiation. image measurements were SNR, PSNR, RMSE, and MAE. Measurement results Measurement results of surrounding organ doses when the Tube direction was 30° and 37° The dose was low when the direction was cathodic in all organs (p<0.000). Both cathodes were higher in the image measurements(p<0.04). Continuous research may be needed for diagnostically valuable imaging and minimization of patient exposure dose.
