In this study, relationship between seed origin and growth rate of Alnus glutinosa from different seed collection (Yugoslovia, ltaly, United Kingdom, Bulgaria) was investigated with focused on anatomical properties as wood fiber length, vessel element length and diameter. Alnus glutinosa showed diffuse-porous wood with scalariform perforation in alternate pitting. Ray height was 9~11 in tangential section and ray number were 16~26 in cross section. There were no differences on latewood focused on wood fiber length, length and diameter of vessel element, but difference on earlywood. Other than Yugoslavian seed, there was better growth rate with shorter wood fiber and vessel element length on latewood. However, seed from Yugoslovain showed better growth rate with longer wood fiber and vessel element length than other 3 seed orgins.

Objective : To evaluate the anatomical parameters that must be considered when performing thoracic transpedicular or extrapedicular screw fixation. Methods : We selected 958 vertebrae (1,916 pedicles) from 98 patients for analysis. Eight parameters were measured from CT scans : the transverse outer pedicular diameter, transverse inner pedicular diameter, length, angle, chord length of the pedicles and the transverse width, angle, and chord length of the pedicle-rib units. Results : The age of the patients ranged from 21 to 82 years (mean: 48.2 years) and there were 57 men and 41 women. The narrowest transverse outer pedicular diameter was at T5 (4.4 mm). The narrowest pedicle length was at T1 (15.9 mm). For pedicle angle, T1 was 31.6 degrees, which was the most convergent angle, and it showed the tendency of the lower the level, the lesser the convergent angle. The chord length showed a horizontal pattern with similar values at all levels. For the PRU width, T5 showed a similar pattern to the pedicle width at 13.4 mm. For the PRU angle, T1 was the largest angle at 46.2 degrees and the tendency was the lower the level. the narrower the angle. For chord length, T1 was the shortest at 46.9 mm and T8 was the longest at 60.1 mm. Conclusion : When transpedicular screw fixations carried out at the mid-thoracic level, special care must be taken because there is a high chance of danger of medial wall violation. In these circumstances, extrapedicular screw fixation may be considered as an alternative treatment.
To determine if Antarctic krill employ body shrinkage as one of its overwintering mechanisms in the field, Euphauia superba and Euphausia crystallorophias were collected during fall and winter in and around Marguerite Bay through US Southern Ocean GLOBEC field programs during fall and winter 2001 and 2002. The relationships between the body length and weight of both krill species were exponentially correlated with no significant differences between the two species (p>0.05). The ratio between eye diameter and body length of individual krill was examined in an expectation that it could be used as an indicator of the body shrinkage as previously suggested by Shin and Nicol (2002). These ratios were significantly different between the two krill species. Especially, E . crystallorophias had bigger eyes than E. superba. In both krill species, eye diameters were highly correlated with body lengths (regression coefficients ${\geq}0.70$). For E. crystallorophias, no significant differences of the ratio of eye diameter/body length were detected between fall and winter. Even though the ratios for E. superba were seasonally varied, it was not clear whether body shrinkage was an actual and critical overwintering mechanism for the krill population found in this study area. These results suggest that some individuals of E. superba might experience the body shrinkage during a part of their liff, but this morphological index alone (eye diameter/body length) may be insufficient to unambiguously separate the shrunk krill from the non-shrunk ones in the field-collected animals.
Ninety-four collections of domestic ginger were evaluated for plant hight, leaf number, stem number, leaf length and width, rhizome yield per plant revealed good variability in stem number and rhizome yield per plant. Moderate variation was observed in plant hight, leaf number, leaf length, leaf width and stem diameter. Rhizome yield per plant was positively correlated with six characters, and leaf number, plant height and stem diameter were positive significant correlation with rhizome yield per plant. Path coefficient analysis indicated that stem number, followed by leaf number, stem diameter, had maximum direct effects on rhizome yield per plant. Maximum indirect effect was observed in case of plant height through leaf number. The indirect effects of leaf length and leaf width through leaf number, and plant height, leaf length and leaf width through stem diameter were also observed. From the selection point of view, the characters like plant height, stem number and leaf number per clump may be considered suitable in choosing a good genotype.
Orifice flow meters are frequently used for measuring gas flow in gas industry. However, to insure the accuracy of the measurement, a certain length of the meter run at the upstream of the flow meter is required. The objective of this study is to analyze flow measurement errors of the orifice flow meter quantitatively for shorter lengths of the meter runs than those suggested in the standard manuals with variation of diameter ratio( $\beta$ ratio) and flow rate. The test results showed that the flow measurement errors of the orifice meter were inversely proportional to the diameter ratio. In other words, when the diameter ratio is 0.3 and 0.7, the measurement error is $-7.3\%$ and $-3.5\%$, respectively. the main reason of the measurement error is due to the swirl effect from the configuration of the meter run at the upstream of the flow meter. In case the length of the meter run is shorter than that suggested in the standard manuals, the swirl effect is not removed completely and it affects the flow meter's performance. As mentioned above, the less the pipe diameter ratio, the more the flow measurement error. It means that the swirl effect on the orifice meter increases as the $\beta$ ratio decreases.
This paper investigated external factors (height. crown width. diameter breath height, clear length) of tree and electric resistance ($k{\Omega}$) in damaged forest by Thecodiplosis japonensis Uchida et Inouye. The height. crown width and diameter breath height of tree external factors have high a coefficient of correlation. but clear length has not a coefficient of correlation. In relationship of electric resistance and external factor. big tree that height. crown width. diameter breath height has lower electric resistance value than that of small tree. (low electric resistance value is high tree vigor, high electric resistance value is low tree vigor)) Dead tree have smaller diameter breath height. crown width. higher clear length than survival tree in damaged forest by Thecodiplosis japonensis Uchida et Inouye. To investigation of relationship external factors according to electric resistance value. electric resistance value was divided three class (< $l4k{\Omega}$, possible of survival. $14{\sim}20k{\Omega}$, > $20k{\Omega}$, possible of dead). In lower class(< $l4k{\Omega}$), external factors have bigger which was height. crown width. diameter breath height and lower which was clear length than them of higher class ($14{\sim}20k{\Omega}$, > $20k{\Omega}$). Linear regression solutions of electric resistance and external factors were Y = -0.572 ${\times}$ Height - 1.163 ${\times}$ crown width - 0.242 ${\times}$ diameter breath height + 0.757 ${\times}$ clear length + 25.765. Regression solutions were significant in 5%.

Recently, the high precision technology can not be developed continuously if we don't have anti vibration technology. Vibration isolation technology using an air spring and laminated robber bearing is widely used because it has excellent vibration isolation characteristics. We developed high precision vibration table with two good element(air spring and LRB) for semiconductor factory. Air Spring is used for isolating the vertical vibration and LRB is used for isolating the horizontal Vibration. As a result, It has D-Class degree in BBR-Criteria. In this paper, we talk about orifice characteristics in the self-damped air spring and design flow of the laminated robber bearing. The orifice characteristics is delicate shade of length and diameter. When we do experimentation to find orifice characteristics, length is fixed and diameter is changed. The orifice diameter is the wider and the air spring stiffness is the softer.
In the case of heavy duty diesel engines, the Urea-SCR system is currently considered to reduce the NOx emission as a proved technology, and it is widely studied to get the high performance and durability. However, the nozzles to inject the urea-water solution into the exhaust pipe occur some problems, including the nozzle clogging, deposition of urea-water solution on the inner wall of the exhaust pipe, resulting in the production of urea salt. In this study, a swirl-type twin-fluid nozzle to produce more fine droplets was used as a method to solve the problems. The effect of the nozzle cap geometry, including the length to diameter ratio ($l_o/d_o$) and chamfer, on the spray characteristics were investigated experimentally. The length to diameter ratio of nozzle cap were varied from 0.25 to 1.125. The chamfer angle of the nozzle cap was constant at 90o. The mean velocity and droplet size distributions of the spray were measured using a 2-D PDA (phase Doppler analyzer) system, and the spray half-width, AMD (arithmetic mean diameter) and SMD (Sauter mean diameter) were analyzed. At result, The larger length to diameter ratio of nozzle cap were more small SMD and AMD. The effect of the chamfer did increase the radial velocity, while it did not affect the atomization effect.

DME spray characteristics were investigated about varied ambient pressure and fuel injection pressure using the DME common rail fuel injection system when the nozzle holes diameter is varied. The common rail fuel injection system with DME cooling system was used since DME has properties of compressibility and vaporization in atmospheric temperature. The fuel injection quantity and spray characteristics were measured. The spray analysis parameters were spray shape, penetration length, and spray angle at six nozzle holes. Three types of injector were used, the nozzle holes diameter were 0.166 mm (Injector 1), 0.250 mm (Injector 2), and 0.250 mm with enlargement of orifice hole from 0.6 mm to 1.0 mm (Injector 3). The fuel injection pressure was varied by 5MPa from 35 to 70MPa when the ambient pressure was varied 0, 2.5, and 5MPa. When using Injector 3 in comparison to the others, the DME injection quantity was increased 1.69 ~ 2.02 times. Through this, it had the similar low heat value with diesel which was injected Injector 1. Among three types of injector, Injector 3 had the fastest development velocity of penetration length. In case of spray angle, Injector 2 had the largest spray angle. Through these results, only the way enlargement the nozzle holes diameter is not the solution of DME low heat value problem.
To develope the high speed gas cutting tip, consists of 3 pieces, supersonic axisymmetric jets issuing from various kinds of nozzles with a throat diameter of a few milimeters were experimentally investigated. The nozzle inlet pressure was varied from 4 to 8 kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$. The parameters in nozzle design were throat diameter, throat length, taper angle, outlet diameter. The total pressure variation was measured by the pilot tube, 0.5mm outer diameter, along the center of the free stream jet. Also color Shilieren system was used to visualize the flowfield.
