  • This Study was conducted to estimate the degree of dominance and gene frequency of some sueful characters in tobacco. The eight parents and a set of 28 crosses of F'1s was F'2s were used as materials, and planted on oriental's and burley cultivated system as randomized block designs, respectively. The observed characters were six agronomic characters which were plant height, number of leaves per plant, leaf length, leaf width, days to flowering and yield, and the data obtained from the experiment were analyzed from methods by Hayman's and Jinks. The results obtained are summarized as follows: 1. In Vr-Wr graphical analysis, number of leaves per plant, leaf length, days to flowering and yield were found to be inherited in partial dominance, and plant height was over dominance to be similar to complete dominance, but leaf width was inherited with partial dominance close to complete dominance. 2. In the gene frequency, two varieties Xanthi-Basma and KA 102, for days to flowering and yield had larger number of dominant genes as those were situated near the point of origen. 3. Additive effects of genes(D) were greater than dominance effects of Genes(H) for six agronomic characters except plant height, and mean degree of dominance over all loci was lower than 1 for days to flowering yield, leaf length and number of leaves per plant.

  • This experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of the application of complete fertilizer on the yields and quality of leaf tobaccod grown in soils with different fertility levels. The contents of inorganic nitrogen, organic matter and available phosphorus in the soil with high fertility level were shown to be more than those in the soils with medium and low fertility levels of the experimental fields. The contents of total nitrogen, nicotine and reducing sugar in the tobacco leaf were more than those in the cutters tobacco. The contents of total nitrogen and nicotine in the leaf tobacco increased as the application amounts of the fertilizer(10:10:20) increased, however, the reducing sugar contents in the leaf tobacco decreased. The increase in the yields of leaf tobacco was detected at the application amount of 75kg/10a in soils with high fertility level, but for high yield of leaf tobacco in the soils with low and medium levels the application amount of the fertilizer was found to be over 100kg per 10a. The quality (price/kg or price/kg ${\times}$ yield) of the leaf tobacco was known to be excellent at 50~75kg/10a of the application amount of the fertilizer(10:10:20) in soil with high fertility level and over 100kg/10a in the other soils in the experiment.

  • Dried tobacco leaf debris infected with tobacco mosaic virus (TMV) was subjected to heat treatment (6$0^{\circ}C$~10$0^{\circ}C$) with or without addition of moisture and to room temperature for natural decay to examine the periods of time required for the inactivation of PMV in the inoculum source. Wet conditions (60% moisture content of the debris) for heat treatment were more efficient than dry conditions to inactivate the virus at 7$0^{\circ}C$~10$0^{\circ}C$, and which decrease of temperature, the time needed for the viral inactivation increased greatly. At 6$0^{\circ}C$ and 7$0^{\circ}C$, the temperaturein a compost heap during the actively decomposing period, it takes about 15 days or more for the complete inactivation of the virus. However, considering the decrease of the viral infectivity during the decomposition, a shorter period of time will be required to inactivate TMV in the conditions mentioned above, suggesting that a well decomposed organic manure containing tobacco leaf debris may not have infective TMV and may not provide a potential inoculum source.

  • These studies were conducted to investigate the changes of starch, sugar and nicotine content in relation to maturity and cultural conditions and correlation between growth characteristics and chemical components in order to improve the leaf quality. The results were summarized as follows; 1. Nicotine content, total nitrogen content and the ratio of total nitrogen to nicotine of the green leaf were increased with heavier fertilizer, wider planting space and lower topping, whereas starch, total sugar and the ratio of sugar to nicotine were decreased. 2. Starch content, sugar content and the ratio of total sugar to nicotine(T-S/Nic) in the cured leaf were decreased with milder planting space, less application of MH and delaying harvesting date. 3. It was estimated that 58.1% of starch of the harvested leaf was converted into sugar of the cured leaf, and also they were significantly correlated each other.

  • Bacterial wilt(Ralstonia solanacearum) is one of the major diseases of flue-cured tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum L.) in the world. This study was conducted to investigate degree of dominance, selection, and correlation between leaf shape and degree of bacterial wilt resistance in flue-cured tobacco. The degree of disease caused by bacterial wilt was evaluated in parents, F$_1$, F$_2$ and F$_3$ populations of two crosses, BY 4 x NC 95 and BY 4 x Coker 86, in the infected field. The leaf shape index was also measured in parents and F$_2$ population of BY 4 x NC 95. The incidence of bacterial wilt was observed in the middle of June and peaked in late July, when the highest value of pathogen density reached 1.0 x 10$^{6}$ colony forming unit per gram. It was concluded that the inheritance mode of risestance to bacterial wilt in the above two crosses of susceptible and resistant varieties was recessive and polygenic. The resistance to bacterial wilt was significantly correlated with leaf shape in F2 generation of BY 4 x NC 95. But certain plants having narrower leaves were also resistant to bacterial wilt. It is considered that the bacterial wilt resistant lines having narrower leaves could be selected. The selection for bacterial wilt resistance in the F$_2$ population might be effective.

  • This experiment was carries out to study on the effect of temperature raising rate to chemical composition of tobacco leaves during the midrib drying stage of flue-curing. The results were as follows : In the case of the temperature raising rate became more rapidly during midrib drying stage. It had a tendency to increase in oxailic acid, succinlc acid, ammonia, polyphenol; there was a large loss of total sugar, reducing sugar, malic acid, palmitic acid and linolenic acid; leaf color became more reddish; the leaf quality index value decreased, thereby the quality of external appearance deteriorated. It is desirable that the temperature raising rate had to be more slowly.

  • Knowing in a view of legislation, we are able to use modernly the interior of registered cultural property with its preservation and its use freely in the limit of not changing the outer appearance. And on investigation, many building registered as cultural property has been used continuously with the function kept or changed. It means that modern building must keep their function at kept to survive in a change of city construction. Likewise, even Jae cheon leaf tobacco receipt agency lose the original function, there will be great possibilities that the agency may be changed or disappeared if we don't preserve it or give it a new function by making out the meaning of preservation. So, if Jae Cheon leaf tobacco receipt agency is restored as mentioned above in close cooperation with related organization, Jae Cheon area will demonstrate the meaning as a representative producing district of leaf tobacco with its cultural value in Korean modern ages.
