Environmental factors play an important role in crop growth and development. In recent years, climate change has become a challenge that limits environmental factors. Light is an important environmental factor for photosynthesis in rice. In addition, temperature is one of the most important factors for rice production; thus, a 1℃ increase in temperature because of climate change can affect rice growth and development. Therefore, we investigated the effect of shading on the growth characteristics of rice under different temperature conditions from the vegetative stage to the flowering stage. Plants were grown at three different temperatures: 26℃/16℃ for 21℃, 29℃/19℃ for 24℃, and 22℃/32℃ for 27℃ in a phytotron. A 55% shade treatment was applied after 10 days of transplanting until the flowering stage. Plant height was not affected by the shading treatment. In the maximum tiller number response to shading, a lower tiller number and growth speed of tiller was found in the 27℃ condition. Among leaf characteristics, shading increased the flag leaf area, length, width, and effective leaf area; however, it decreased the leaf number on the main stem, especially at 27℃. In terms of stem characteristics, shading affected culm wall thickness in both varieties. Finally, regarding the panicle characteristics, lower panicle numbers, spikelet numbers per panicle, primary numbers, and secondary numbers per panicle were found under the shading treatment. Most of the desirable characteristics were affected by the shading treatment at 27℃. Overall, these results indicated that shading had a greater effect on rice plant growth at high temperature.
Root chicory (Cichorium intybus L. var. sativus) is potential alternative medicinal and sugar crop which accumulates a high amount of linear polyfructan, inulin in its roots. A problem in root production is that over-wintered stock plants often flower. Once the plant becomes reproductive, stem elongation and root growth slows and floral buds arise from every node, rendering the plants useless for propagation. The objectives of this research was to examine the effectiveness of manipulating environmental factors containing photoperiod, temperature and number of leaf states. The experiment was performed in growth chamber to create two photoperiods (8 h, and 16 h) with three temperature regimes (5$^{\circ}C$/3$^{\circ}C$, 1$0^{\circ}C$/8$^{\circ}C$ and 15$^{\circ}C$/13$^{\circ}C$ day/night temperature) for a total of six treatments on three type of true-leaf stage of plant. Data of bolting rate, shoot and root length, shoot and fresh weight was invetigated in each treatments. This is the first report on changes in bolting rate and shoots and roots production during a whole growing season and differences in the effect of cold and photoperiod treatment depending on the true-leaf stage of plant.
In order to understand the vegetative role of Glycine soja, we studied the basic physiological characteristics between Glycine soja and Glycine max. For this study, the light intensity (μmol m-2 s-1) on leaf surface, leaf temperature (℃), transpiration rate (mmol m-2 s-1), photosynthetic rate (μmol m-2 s-1), substomatal CO2 partial pressure (vpm) of Glycine soja and Glycine max were measured, and the quantum yield, photosynthesis rate per substomatal CO2 partial pressure were calculated. In the results of simple regression analysis, the increasing quantum yield decreases leaf temperature both of Glycine soja and Glycine max and the increasing leaf temperature decreases transpiration rate in case of Glycine soja. However, in case of Glycine max, the increasing leaf temperature decreases substomatal CO2 partial pressure, photosynthetic rate, and photosynthetic rate per substomatal CO2 partial pressure as well as transpiration rate. Also, increasing transpiration rate increases substomatal CO2 partial pressure while decreases photosynthetic rate per substomatal CO2 partial pressure. Thus, Glycine soja is relatively more easily adaptable to severe environments with low soil nutrients and high light levels. Compared to Glycine max susceptible to water loss due to a water-poor terrestrial habitat, the physiological traits of Glycine soja has a high average transpiration rate and are less susceptible to water loss will act as a factor that limits the habitat according to soil moisture.
The three Korean wheat cultivars with different plant types; the erect, the middle and the creeping growth habit, were studied for their utilization to solar radiation, temperature changes on the furrow and to provide optimum planting space for producing the high yield in 2003. The average solar radiation rate was lowest for creeping type ($39.2\%$) and highest for erect type ($75.8\%$) The correlation coefficient between the coverage rate and the solar transmission rate was r = 0.8624 which was significant at $5\%$ level. The relative growth of the plant, tiller rate and leaf size was increased in the erect and the middle type at lower plant density, while no change on plant growth at creeping type regardless of plant density. The increase of leaf size in the lower plant density was due to longer flag and the first leaf than those of other plant types. The temperature on the furrow of growing plants was changed by the canopy. The changes in temperature pattern on the furrow according to plant types during winter season was different compared to the non plant ground. The temperature of the nonplant ground was the lowest due to solar reduction increasing the amount of cool air flowing in the furrow.
This study examined the relationship among catch-fire, burning, maximum temperature (MT), amount of combustion-heat (ACH), and combustive time (CT) in heating temperature treated with the same amount of each organ of Miscanthus. In the survey sites, about 19% of the areaswere covered by Miscanthus types, and the dry weight of Miscanthus and debris on the ground were 1,164 and 178 g/㎡, respectively. At 350℃ and 400℃, the rise of temperature by Culm type (culms and ears) and Leaf type (leaves and debris) were 90℃ and 82℃, respectively. At 350℃, durning time (BT) of culms-200, ears-200, ears-200, leaves-200 and debris-200 was 0-10’30”, 0-07’40”, 0-04’20”and 0-02’40”, and that at 400℃ was 0-01’20”, 0-00’50” 0-00’35”and 0-00’30”, respectively. BT was shorter at higher temperatures, and BT of Leaf type was shorter than that of Culm type. The amount of samples consumed was as follows: Culm type (culms-200 and ears-200) was 14.6g and 12.6g more than Leaf type (leaves-200 and debris-200) at 350℃ and 400℃, respectively. The total amount of combustion-heat (TACH) of samples was 5,859.7 kcal. The amount of mean combustion-heat generated from sample at 350℃ and 400℃ differed little: 727.6 kcal (24.9%) at 350℃ and 737.3 kcal (26.0%) at 400℃.
This study aims to examine the optimum blanching conditions as a pretreatment condition to improve the storage stability of Dolsan leaf mustard pickle. The effects of the blan- ching temperature and time were investigated at a temperature range of $80-100^{\circ}C$. Sampling was done for 1 month after a 5 days interval. The L value of the Dolsan leaf mustard was found to be the highest at $80^{\circ}C$. The cutting force increased as the blanching temperature increased. The tensile strength decreased at $95^{\circ}C$ and $100^{\circ}C$. In addition, the sensory evaluation scores were the best at $80^{\circ}C$. The storage stability was assessed at various blanching temperatures to increase the sinigrin content during storage. Liquid chromatography with photodiode array and tandem mass spectrometry (LC-PDA/MS/MS) analysis was conducted to identify and quantify the sinigrin content in the Dolsan leaf mustard. Sinigrin as an internal standard was co-injected into each sample solution. The sample was monitored by recording the ultraviolet absorbance at 228 nm and by electrospray ionization (ESI) positive ion mode in the m/z 50-1,500 range. Blanching the sample at $80^{\circ}C$ showed the highest sinigrin concentration during storage among various temperatures and the maximum concentration was 350 ppm at 15 days storage. Study on utilization of vegetable from food processing of leaf mustard and preservation conservation results suggest that blanching at $80^{\circ}C$ is expected to improve the palatability of the pickle.
This study was conducted to investigate the varietal differences in leaf senescence during ripening stage and its relation to grain yield of rice. During grain filling period leaf senescence was evaluated by SPAD readings (an indirect indicator of chlorophyll content) for 74 varieties including local, improved domestic, and introduced varieties in the field condition. Leaf senescence was varied greatly among 74 varieties. Jodongji and Dadajo known as local rice varieties had significantly lower SPAD value than the other varieties and became senescent rapidly. However, SPAD value of the flag leaf and 2nd leaf of SNU-SG1 were much higher than the other varieties and leaves of SNU-SG1 also showed a tendency of delayed senescence compared to the other varieties. There were significantly positive correlation between cumulated SPAD value of upper leaf(flag leaf and 2nd leaf) during 35 days after heading and grain yield divided by sunshine hour during 40 days of grain filling and compensated for temperature effect, and cumulated SPAD value of the 4th leaf showed negative correlation with the yield. That is, the delayed senescence of the upper leaves and the rapid senescence of lower leaves were positively associated with grain yield increase.
This study was conducted to get the informations for reducing the variation of chemical contents of leaf tobacco. The contents and variations of some chemical constituents of leaf(Leaf, Grade 2) produced in various growing areas from 1999 to 2003 and the effects of meteorological factors on the chemical constituents of leaf were analysed. The contents of analysed constituents of leaf showed high significant differences among crop years in flue-cured and burley, particularly the variation among crop years were higher in chlorine and nicotine contents while lower in total nitrogen content. There were significant differences among growing areas in nicotine and total sugar contents of flue-cured leaf and chlorine content of burley leaf. The total sugar content were negatively correlated to the nicotine and total nitrogen contents in flue-cured leaf. The average air temperature in June and July were positively correlated to the nicotine content of leaf while negatively to total sugar, and the precipitation in May were negatively correlated to the nicotine while positively to total sugar.

As paprika plants grew in a glass greenhouse from November 2022 to March 2023, the amount of light at each plant height, leaf temperature, transpiration rate, and water vapor pressure were measured. Accumulated leaf temperature was higher at the top of the plant than at the bottom. Over time, the leaf temperature measured around 11-13 AM changed from 26.55→23.21→22.80→26.67℃ in the lower part (pL), and from 26.52→24.48→24.55→27.78℃ in the upper part (pAs). And VPD changed from 1.45→0.94→0.74→1.46kPa in pL and from 1.11→0.86→0.71→1.28kPa in pAs. Accordingly, the transpiration rate changed from 4.25→0.17→4.08→0.52mmol·m-2·s-1 in pL, 7.61→2.45→1.94→4.39→0.52mmol·m-2·s-1 in pAs, and from pAs to pL. It was significantly higher than The difference between the lower and upper parts (pL-pAs) was higher in pAs than pL in leaf temperature, light intensity, and transpiration rate, but the water vapor pressure difference was higher in pL. In this way, paprika shows differences in the environment and photosynthetic factors between the upper and lower parts during the cultivation period, so it is judged that this needs to be taken into consideration in future research.
Habitat observation, cultural experience of old and present plantation, weather factors in relation to crop stand and water physiology of root and leaf were reviewed. According to habitat observation ginseng plants love water but plate wit talus well grow at drained place with high moisture content in air and soil while ginseng plants were not found in dry or wet place. According to cultivation experience ginseng plants require abundant water in nursery and main field but most old planters believe that ginseng plaints are draught-loving thus require little water. The experience that rain especially in summer i.e unfavorable might be due to mechanical damage of leaves arid leaf disease infection, or severe leaf fall which is caused by high air temperature and coinsided with rain. According to crop stand observation in relation to weather factors abunsant water increased each root weight but decreased total yield indicating tile increase of missing root rate. Rain in summer was unfavorable too. Though rain in June was favorable for high yield general experience that cloudy day and rain were unfavorable might be due to low light intensity under shade. Present leading planters also do loot consider the importance of water in main field. Water content is higher in top than in root and highest in central portion of root and in stem of top. For seedling the heavier the weight of root is tile higher the water content while it reveries from two years old. Water potential of intact root appeared to be -2.89 bar suggesting high sensitivity to water environment. Under water stress water content severly decreased only in leaf. Water content of leaf appeared to be 78% for optimum, below 72% for functional damage and 68% for perm anent wilting. Transpiration or curs Principally through stomata in lower side of leaf thus contribution of upper side transpiration decreased with the increase of intensity. Transpiration is greater in the leaves grown under high light intensity. Thus water content is lower with high light inte nsity under field condition indicating that light is probable cause of water stress in field. Transpiration reached maximum at 10K1ut The decrease of transpiration at higher temperature seems to be due to the decrease of stomata aperture caused by water stress. Severe decrease of photosynthesis under water stress seems to be principally due to functional damage which is not caused by high temperature and Partly due to poor CO2 supply. Water potential of leaf appeared to be -16.8 bar suggesting weakness in draught tolerance. Ginseng leaves absorb water under high humidity. Water free space of leaf disc is %mailer than that of soybean leaf and water uptake appears to be more than two steps.
