  • The purpose of this study is to provide the dyeing and physical characteristics of napped knit fabrics composed of latent crimped yarn. The K/S values, dyeing fastness, thickness, bulkiness, and shrinkage characteristics of three knit fabrics were investigated. The original knit fabric (SK) was composed of 1ply latent crimped yarn (75/36) in the ground and PET DTY (70/100) in the pile loop, in order of napped process the napped knit fabric (SN) was napped SK fabric. In order to compare of latent crimped yarn content, the last knit fabric (DN) was napped 2ply latent crimped yarn were included in the same structure of SK. Dyeability of three knit fabrics was similar but the shrinkage properties of DN fabric were significant different. The bulkiness shows a tendency to increase the bulkiness as increasing the dyeing temperature, and the bulkiness of the SN was higher because of the napping process and optimal content of latent crimped yarn.

  • A fineness range of 150 Nm-170 Nm has recently been applied to produce much finer wool products, so that processing techniques for the wool fabrics have been developed very rapidly. However, the worsted wool-like technique using polyester fiber has not been still implemented in general processing technique. Therefore, this research is to develop materials of side-by-side type with high finess, high shrinkage and stretchability. The mechanical properties of the produced fabrics were analyzed and the fundamental information were obtained for the new worsted wool-like products. The physical properties of a latent crimped yarns of side-by-side type with stretch function are analyzed. Also the mechanical properties of five kinds of fabrics are analyzed, which are produced with non-circular shape(+type) warp yarns of a twist of 1000(T/M) and with two kinds of latent weft yarns of a twist of 1000 T/M and DTY respectively.

  • A microcapsule water slurry is a latent heat-storage material having a low melting point. In this study, the thermal properties of a microcapsule water slurry are measured. The physical properties of the test microcapsule water slurry, i.e., thermal conductivity, specific heat, latent heat, and density, are measured, and the results are discussed for the temperature region of solid and liquid phases of the dispersion material (paraffin). It is clarified that Eucken's equation can be applied to the estimation of the thermal conductivity of the microcapsule water slurry. Useful correlation equations of the thermal properties of the microcapsule water slurry are proposed in terms of the temperature and concentration ratio of the microcapsule water slurry constituents.

  • We prepared polymer-PCM gels such as prepared frozen gel from polypropylene and n-Paraffin for thermal storage and release materials, their basic properties and possible applications especially in latent heat storage. The preparation methods are used to melting method and absorption method respectively. The composition and properties of prepared frozen gels from polypropylene and n-Paraffin were observed by DSC, FT-IR spectra, ARES and Elemental analysis. We can prepare frozen gels in different temperature for latent heat storage materials as controlling composition of phase change material as well as using different incorporating phase change materials. These frozen gels can be used to latent heat storage materials for several applications.

  • The effects of 1 wt.% N-benzylpyrazinium hexafluoroantimonate (BPH) as a thermal latent initiator and blend compositions composed of 0, 5, 10, 20 and 40 wt.% of phenol-novolac resin to epoxy resin were investigated in terms of cure kinetics, thermal stabilities and rheological properties. Thermal latent properties of BPH were measured from the conversion as a function of reaction temperature on a dynamic DSC. This cationic BPH system turned out to be an effective thermal latent initiator in the epoxy-phenol curing system. And the increase of phenol-novolac resin concentration led to the decrease in the latent temperature and to the increase of cure activation energy ($E_a$) of the blend system. The thermal stability and activation energy ($E_t$) for decomposition, gel-time and activation energy ($E_c$) for cross-linking from rheometer increased within the composition range of 20~40 wt.% of phenol-novolac resin. This implies that the three-dimensional cross-linking may take place among hydroxyl group within phenol resin, epoxide ring within epoxy resin and BPH.

  • In this work, the cure kinetics and rheological and mechanical properties of diglycidylether of bispheonol A (DGEBA, EP)/polyurethane (PU) blends were investigated. The 1 wt% N-benzylpyrazinium hexafluoroantiminate (BPH) was used as a latent thermal catalyst. Latent properties were performed by measurement of the conversion as a function of reaction temperature using DSC. And the rheological properties of the blend systems were investigated under isothermal conditions using a rheometer. Crosslinking activating energies (Ec) were also determined from the Arrhenius equation based on gel time and curing temperature. The impact strengths were measured as mechanical properties of the casting specimens. The BPH in the blend systems could be an excellent latent thermal catalyst without any co-initiator. The rheological results showed that Ec was highest when PU content was 30 wt% which was in good agreement with the impact strengths. This was probably due to the intermolecular hydrogen bonding between the hydroxyl group in PU and EP, resulting in increasing the crosslinking density.

  • The latent properties and cure kinetics of an acid anhydride-cured epoxy resin have been investigated by a near-infrared (NIR) reflection spectroscopy. The assignments of the latent properties and cure behaviors were performed by the measurements of the NIR reflectance for epoxide and hydroxyl groups at different temperatures. A comprehensive analysis of the origin, location, and shifts during reaction of all major NIR absorption peaks in the spectral range from 4000 to 7100 $cm^{-1}$ / was provided. The extent of reaction was determined from NIR absorption band at the 4530 $cm^{-1}$ / depending on epoxide concentration and cure temperature.

  • A greenhouse equipped with latent heat storage system was built to obtain various thermal properties, such as greenhouse air temperature, soil surface temperature, energy flow in latent heat storage, etc., which could be used in validation of greenhouse numerical model to be developed in this study. This numerical model expressed with Newton-Raphson method was programed by C-language and utilized to simulate greenhouse thermal behavior. Greenhouse air temperature and soil surface temperature predicted by the greenhouse model developed in this study were very close to the measured data obtained through almost 3 years of experiment. Therefore, it is concluded that the greenhouse model developed and verified by measured data could be utilized for simulating various thermal behaviors of greenhouses equipped with latent heat storage system to be used for energy saving purposes.

  • It is necessary to develop a new technology for effectively reducing hydration heat and controlling thermal cracking caused increasing construction of large size massive concrete structures such as mat foundation of high-rise building, grandiose bridge, and LNG tank. Therefor, to develop a new technology for reducing hydration heat of large size massive concrete in this study, after developing the latent heat binder for controling hydration heat of concrete by application of latent heat material, it was investigated basic properties and durability such as slump, air content and compressive strength, shrinkage properties, permeability, freezing and thawing resistance, corrosion, and hydration heat generation properties of concrete using latent heat binder. As a test result, it was confirmed that latent heat binder was not affected adversely the basic property and durability of concrete, and was advanced on the reduction of hydration heat and control of thermal crack. It is expected to be applied as the excellent technology on the management of hydration heat and thermal crack in large size mass concrete structures.
