A Study on Design of Visual Sensor Using Scanning Beam for Shape Recognition of Weld Joint. (용접접합부의 형상계측을 위한 주사형 시각센서의 설계에 관한 연구)

  • A visual sensor consisted of polygonal mirror, laser, and CCD camera was proposed to measure the distance to the weld joint for recognizing the joint shape. To scan the laser beam of the sensor onto an object, 8-facet polygonal mirror was used as the rotating mirror. By locating the laser and the camera at axi-symmetrical positions around the mirror, the synchronized-scan condition could be satisfied even when the mirror was set to rotate through one direction continuously, which could remove the inertia effect of the conventional oscillating-mirror methods. The mathematical modelling of the proposed sensor with the optical triangulation method made it possible to derive the relation between the position of an image on the camera and the one of a laser light on the object. Through the geometrical simulation of the proposed sensor with the principal of reflection and virtual image, the optical path of a laser light could be predicted. The position and direction of the CCD camera were determined based on the Scheimpflug's condition to fit the focus of any image reflected from an object within the field of view. The results of modelling and simulation revealed that the proposed visual sensor could be used to recognize the weld joint and its vicinity located within the range of the field of view and the resolution.   • This paper proposes a method of container position measurement using automatic landing system that is estimated by a laser range finder. In the most of container position measurement methods, CCD cameras or laser scanners have been used to get the source data. However those sensors are not only weak for disturbances, for examples, the light, fog, and rain, but also the system cost is high. When the spreader arrives the goal position, it is still swung by inertia or by wind effect. In this paper, the spreader swung data have been used to find the container position. The laser range finder is equipped in the front side of spreader. It can measure distance and relative position between spreader and container. This laser range finder can be rotated as desired by a motor. And a tilt sensor is equipped on the spreader to measure spreader sway. We estimate the relative position information between the spreader and a container using the laser range finder and tilt sensor through the geometrical analysis.

  • In this paper, 2D and 3D inspection algorithm for printed solder on PCB is introduced. The aim of inspection is the detection of error such as rich solder poor solder and missing solder. For Inspection, laser distance sensor is used. For 2D inspection, laser image that is created by normalizing laser data between 0 and 255 are used. Reference Image is made using gerber file. Image processing algorithm is used for 2D inspection. By adding thickness of metal stencil to laser image, volume for solder can be calculated and 3D inspection is carried out.

  • Mobile robots use various sensors for navigation such as wheel encoder, vision sensor, sonar, and laser sensors. Dead reckoning is used with wheel encoder, resulting in the accumulation of positioning errors. For that reason wheel encoder can not be used alone. Too much information of vision sensors leads to an increase in the number of features and complexity of perception scheme. Also Sonar sensor is not suitable for positioning because of its poor accuracy. On the other hand, laser sensor provides accurate distance information relatively. In this paper we propose to extract the angular information from the distance information of laser range finder and use the Kalman filter that match the heading and distance of the laser range finder and those of wheel encoder. For laser scanner with one feature point error may increase much when the feature point is variant or jumping to a new feature point. To solve the problem, we propose to use two feature points and show that the positioning error can be reduced much.

Development of seam tracking sensing system for welding environment with wall (벽이 있는 용접 환경을 위한 용접선 검출 시스템 개발)

  • Both ends of welding line are often closed by wall in the welding of ship blocks. In this research, seam tracking sensing system for butt welding in the condition with wall was developed. Seam tracking sensing system measures position of carriage from wall and detects root-pass of welding line. The system consists of the laser displacement sensors and ultrasonic sensors. The laser displacement sensor reciprocal1y rotates by the motor and measures a distance from laser sensor to the welding material. The ultrasonic sensor measures a distance between welding system and walls. The distance measured by the ultrasonic sensor is used to get X(driving) position and to determine initial and end point of the weld line. Y(weaving) and Z(height) of the weld line are obtained by the distance measured by the laser displacement sensor and the orientation of the sensor. The sensing system includes the controller that is independent from the welding carriage. The seam tracking sensing system is attached to both side of welding carriage so that interference between welding torch and sensing system can be avoided during the welding. And both side sensing system minimize dead zone. Finally, developed sensing system was adhered to welding carriage and verified usefulness by experiments.

Remote Measurement of a Distant Temperature and Current using Fiber Bragg Grating Sensors and Erbium-doped Fiber Ring Laser (어븀 첨가 광섬유형 링 레이저와 광섬유 격자 기반 센서를 이용한 원거리의 온도 및 전류 측정)

  • A long-distance remote sensing of temperature and current based on a fiber Bragg grating (FBG) is proposed and demonstrated. The thermal expanding effect of the epoxy and the Er-doped fiber ring laser (EFRL) are applied to the sensor system to enhance the temperature and current sensitivity. An EFRL with a 5 km-single-mode fiber and a FBG shows a high extinction ratio of more than 60 dB and a low power fluctuation of less than 1 dB. The metal wires are used to supply the current to the sensors. When the NOA65 puts on the FBG as a thermal expanding material, the temperature and current sensitivity of the lasing wavelength shift are about $30\;pm/^{\circ}C$ and 3pm/mA, respectively. The proposed sensing scheme is useful for measurement of current or temperature at a distant object of more than several km.

  • This paper proposes the concept of "virtual sensor data" and its application for real time obstacle avoidance. The virtual sensor data is virtual distance which takes care of the movement of the obstacle as well as that of the robot. In practical application, the virtual sensor data is calculated from the odometry data and the range sensor data. The virtual sensor data can be used in all the methods which use distance data for collision avoidance. Since the virtual sensor data considers the movement of the robot and the obstacle, the methods utilizing the virtual sensor data results in more smooth and safer collision-free motion.

  • In this paper, the parameter identification for localization scheme for the optics-based micro sensor node is conducted. We analyzed short measurement range problem which can be occurred in optical based micro sensor node localization method using a time of flight. And we set up the theory for distance and maximum reflected laser power to overcome the problem by identifying hardware parameters like laser power, effective area of MEMS CCR, sensitivity of photodetector, and so on. Experimental results of measurement of maximum reflected laser power were compared with results of the theory. By using the theory, we can identify hardware parameters of localization scheme to measure particular position of the optics-based micro sensor node.

  • This paper presents studies on the development of an internal measurement system for the footwear using laser sensor. The measurement system gains to the height of the profile at internal footwear. It accomplishes the 3-axises control which uses ball screws, L-M guides and stepping motors. It is used a laser sensor at the measurement of the distance, and Labview is used for the control and the measurement. We can get the profile through reverse engineering for the LAST. The data of profile is fixed a heigh of the LAST. Then, we try to verify as compare the profile with one which is collected by Internal measurement system..

  • This paper proposes a self-calibration method of robots those are used in industrial assembly lines. The proposed method is a position compensation using laser sensor and vision camera. Because the laser sensor is cross type laser sensor which can scan a horizontal and vertical line, it is efficient way to detect a feature of vehicle and winding shape of vehicle's body. For position compensation of 3-Dimensional axis, we applied block interpolation method. For selecting feature point, pattern matching method is used and 3-D position is selected by Euclidean distance mapping between 462 feature values and evaluated feature point. In order to evaluate the proposed algorithm, experiments are performed in real industrial vehicle assembly line. In results, robot's working point can be displayed 3-D points. These points are used to diagnosis error of position and reselecting working point.
