Accurate seismic vulnerability assessment requires high quality and large amounts of ground motion data. Ground motion data generated from time series contains not only the seismic waves but also the background noise. Therefore, it is crucial to determine the high-pass cut-off frequency to reduce the background noise. Traditional methods for determining the high-pass filter frequency are based on human inspection, such as comparing the noise and the signal Fourier Amplitude Spectrum (FAS), f2 trend line fitting, and inspection of the displacement curve after filtering. However, these methods are subject to human error and unsuitable for automating the process. This study used a deep learning approach to determine the high-pass filter frequency. We used the Mel-spectrogram for feature extraction and mixup technique to overcome the lack of data. We selected convolutional neural network (CNN) models such as ResNet, DenseNet, and EfficientNet for transfer learning. Additionally, we chose ViT and DeiT for transformer-based models. The results showed that ResNet had the highest performance with R2 (the coefficient of determination) at 0.977 and the lowest mean absolute error (MAE) and RMSE (root mean square error) at 0.006 and 0.074, respectively. When applied to a seismic event and compared to the traditional methods, the determination of the high-pass filter frequency through the deep learning method showed a difference of 0.1 Hz, which demonstrates that it can be used as a replacement for traditional methods. We anticipate that this study will pave the way for automating ground motion processing, which could be applied to the system to handle large amounts of data efficiently.

Background and Objectives : A post-pubescent male classical singer has lower vocal register than a female classical singer. Countertenors who can produce higher vocal register like female classical singers with their falsetto voice and head resonance are recently active. The general purpose of this study is to analyze voice of countertenors and to determine the differences with those of classical singers. Materials and Methods : Four countertenors in Korea were examined using a videostrobos-copy and their voice were analyzed using aerodynamic, acoustic and voice range profile methods. Results and Conclusion : Countertenors could produce elevated fundamental frequency, voice intensity and mean air flow rate using large pulmonary capacity and head voiced falsetto. It means the presence of greater energy in countertenor is due to the more efficient conversion of the air flow to acoustic energy. But, they had unstable amplitude perturbation per each vocal cycle. The results indicated that countertenor is the acoustic products of different laryngeal mechanism with other classical register and it can be recognized as one of the registers of male classical singers.

Wrinkling is a common phenomenon in nature and the shape of a wrinkle can be defined using characteristic dimensions such as pitch, length, amplitude, and density etc. Wrinkle structure can be utilized in various research fields, and especially it has special characteristics when it used in applications of heat transfer; a wrinkly surface has the effect to promote turbulent flow and increasing surface area. However, the generation of wrinkle structures in somewhat regular is not easy. Till now, there are some research works focused on realization of wrinkles in micro scale. However, most of the processes generally requires high precision equipments and high costs, and also there is a limitation to generate the wrinkles in a large area. In this study, we propose a novel method named as a RCO (repetitive contact-and-open) process to fabricate wrinkle structure with low cost and relative easy way. Using the RCO, we fabricated micro-corrugate structures successfully. From the experimental results, we found out the process parameters of RCO, and showed the possibility of RCO to be used in real applications.
Large variation in electrocardiogram (ECG) waveforms continues to present challenges in defining R-wave locations in ECG signals. This research presents a procedure to extract the R-wave locations by forward-backward (FB) algorithm and classify the arrhythmic beat conditions by using RR intervals. The FB algorithm shows forward and backward searching rules from QRS onset and eliminates lower-amplitude signals near the baseline using a statistical process control concept. The proposed algorithm was trained the optimal parameters by using MIT-BIH arrhythmia database (MITDB), and it was verified by actual Holter ECG signals from a local hospital. The signals are classified into normal (N) and three arrhythmia beat types including premature ventricular contraction (PVC), ventricular flutter/fibrillation (VF), and second-degree heart block (BII) beat. This work produces 98.54% accuracy in the detection of R-wave location; 98.68% for N beats; 91.17% for PVC beats; and 87.2% for VF beats in the collected Holter ECG signals, and the results are better than what are reported in literature.

In the last 50 years, lead-contained solder materials have been the most popular interconnect materials used in the electronics industry. Recently, lead-free solders are about to replace lead-contained solders for preventing environmental pollutions. However, the reliability of lead-free solders is not yet satisfactory. Several researchers reported that lead-contained solders have a good fatigue property. The others published that the lead-free solders have a longer thermal fatigue life. In this paper, the reason for the contradictory results published on the estimation of fatigue life of lead-free solder is investigated. In the present study, fatigue behavior of 63Sn37Pb, and two types of lead-free solder joints were compared using pseudo-power cycling testing method, which provides more realistic load cycling than chamber cycling method does. Pseudo-power cycling test was performed in various temperature ranges to evaluating the shear strain effect. A nonlinear finite element model was used to simulate the thermally induced visco-plastic deformation of solder ball joint in BGA packages. It was found that lead-free solder joints have a good fatigue property in the small temperature range condition. That condition induce small strain amplitude. However in the large temperature range condition, lead-contained solder joints have a longer fatigue life.
Inclined and yawed circular cylinder is an essential element in the widespread range of structures. As one of the applications, cables on bridges were reported to have the possibility of suffering a kind of large amplitude vibration called dry galloping. In order to have a detailed understanding of the aerodynamics related to dry galloping, this study carried out a set of wind tunnel tests for the inclined and yawed circular cylinders. The aerodynamic coefficients of circular cylinders with three surface configurations, including smooth, dimpled pattern and helical fillet are tested using the force balance under a wide range of inclination and yaw angles in the wind tunnel. The Reynolds number ranges from $2{\times}10^5$ to $7{\times}10^5$ during the test. The influence of turbulence intensity on the drag and lift coefficients is corrected. The effects of inclination angle yaw angle and surface configurations on the aerodynamic coefficients are discussed. Adopting the existed the quasi-steady model, the nondimensional aerodynamic damping parameters for the cylinders with three kinds of surface configurations are evaluated. It is found that surface with helical fillet or dimpled pattern have the potential to suppress the dry galloping, while the latter one is more effective.
The nonlinear aerodynamic instability of a tensioned plane orthotropic membrane structure is theoretically investigated in this paper. The interaction governing equation of wind-structure coupling is established by the Von $K\acute{a}rm\acute{a}n's$ large amplitude theory and the D'Alembert's principle. The aerodynamic force is determined by the potential flow theory of fluid mechanics and the thin airfoil theory of aerodynamics. Then the interaction governing equation is transformed into a second order nonlinear differential equation with constant coefficients by the Bubnov-Galerkin method. The critical wind velocity is obtained by judging the stability of the second order nonlinear differential equation. From the analysis of examples, we can conclude that it's of great significance to consider the orthotropy and geometrical nonlinearity to prevent the aerodynamic instability of plane membrane structures; we should comprehensively consider the effects of various factors on the design of plane membrane structures; and the formula of critical wind velocity obtained in this paper provides a more accurate theoretical solution for the aerodynamic stability of the plane membrane structures than the previous studies.

Electric components equipped with naval shipboards must endure mechanical shock caused by various mechanical impulsive sources. Thus the components must be designed carefully and reliability test is an essential procedure before use. In this study, a new design technology applicable to a large and heavy shock generation system which can generate various specific real mechanical shocks in specified time domain was introduced. Commonly, the shock transmitted through the wall of naval shipboard consists of dual shocks. The primary shock is of a very high amplitude and very short period half-sine form. The following shock is of an exponentially decaying harmonic form of relatively longer period. Based on the different dynamic characteristics of two shocks, we proposed a sequential design procedure to determine spring and damping coefficients of the generation system. Some numerical simulation results showed the feasibility of the proposed method.

Under nanosecond-pulsed laser irradiation, light-absorbing thin films have been used for photoacoustic transmitters for ultrasound generation. Especially, nanostructured absorbers are attractive due to high optical absorption and efficient thermoacoustic energy conversion: for example, 2-dimensional (2-D) gold nanostructure array, synthetic gold nanoparticles, carbon nanotubes (CNTs), and reduced graphene oxides. Among them, CNT has been used to fabricate a composite film with polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) that exhibits excellent photoacoustic conversion performance for high-frequency, high-amplitude ultrasound generation. Previously, CNT-PDMS nanocomposite films were made by using a high-temperature chemical vapor deposition (HTCVD) process for CNT growth. However, this approach is not suitable to fabricate large-area CNT films (>several cm2). This is because a chamber dimension of HTCVD is limited and also the process often causes nonuniform CNT growth when the film area increases. As an alternative approach, a solution-based process can be used to overcome these issues. We develop PDMS composite transmitters, based on the solution process, using several nanostructured light-absorbers such as CNTs, nanoink powders, and imprinted regular arrays of gold nanostructure. We compare fabrication processes of each composite transmitters and photoacoustic output performance.

Since November 1990, the observations of carbon dioxide$(CO_2)$ levels have been carried out at Tae-ahn Peninsula(TAP) in Korea. Analysis on atmospheric data obtained in the period from November 1990 to August 1992 is carried out and the results are included in this study. It is observed that variations of monthly average level on $CO_2$ are in the range of 315.72 $\sim$ 365.37ppm(amplitude 17.65ppm). The seasonal variation is large with a maximum occurring in March-April and with a minimum in July-August. A comparison of TAP data is made with data obtained at Ryori in Japan for 1991. The annual average value of TAP is 1.79ppm higher than that of Ryori. It is also found that in summer the minimum level of $CO_2$ at TAP is almost same as the $CO_2$ level occurring at Quinghai Province in China and at Ulaan Uul in Mongolia. Albeit, a maximum concentration of $CO_2$ at TAP is slightly higher than that of the same gas observed at other sites in spring. We interpret that TAP is generally under the influence of airflows coming from China. According to analysis of trajectories and airflows, we find the high values of $CO_2$ when an air flow is originated mainly from China and when an airflow is both of local(Korea) and of China origins. In contrast, when an airflow of maritime origin arrives, a low value of the atmospheric constituent is observed at TAP.
