Due to extremely large reduction of area or extrusion ratio in ordinary production of extruded profiles, anisotropy is naturally induced by large severe deformation during the extrusion process. Therefore, the anisotropic properties play a great role in the post processing of extruded profiles, such as in bending. Moreover, undesirable deformation will be involved when the deformation-induced anisotropy is ignored. In order to observe the deformation-induced anisotropy of the thin-walled product, the proposed algorithm is applied to some chosen industrial extrusion processes. In the present work, the method for prediction of deformation-induced anisotropy employing the Barlats six-component yield potential to the rigid-plastic finite element method is proposed. The proposed algorithm is verified with the comparison to the crystallographic texture analysis, and then applied to the C-section extrusion process using a square die. The predicted anisotropy is then compared with the experimental and computational observations for validating the proposed algorithm.
In this paper we have investigated the guiding properties of photonic crystal fibers (PCFs) with a square-lattice of air-holes in the cladding. We have shown numerical results of PCFs with various air hole sizes and hole-to-hole spacings over a wide wavelength range. The group velocity dispersion, effective area and effective refractive index of PCF have been calculated numerically. The waveguide dispersion has greatly affected the group velocity dispersion when hole-to-hole spacing is about $1{\mu}m$. The effective area is quite flat over the wide spectral range whether the hole-to-hole spacing is large or ratio of diameter to pitch is large. From the field distribution, we found that the field is tightly confined within the core region of PCF when the pitch is $3{\mu}m$ and the air-filling fraction is 0.9.

In the era of bigdata, scalability is a crucial issue in learning models. Among many others, the Alternating Direction of Multipliers (ADMM, Boyd et al., 2011) algorithm has gained great popularity in solving large-scale problems efficiently. In this article, we propose applying the ADMM algorithm to solve the least square problem penalized by the pairwise-difference penalty, frequently used to identify group structures among coefficients. ADMM algorithm enables us to solve the high-dimensional problem efficiently in a unified fashion and thus allows us to employ several different types of penalty functions such as LASSO, Elastic Net, SCAD, and MCP for the penalized problem. Additionally, the ADMM algorithm naturally extends the algorithm to distributed computation and real-time updates, both desirable when dealing with large amounts of data.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate facial form, arch form and tooth form in young adults to determine if a correlation exists. 115 subjects who had healthy natural maxillary incisors and good occlusion consisted of 71 males and 44 females ranging from 20-30 years of age. Facial photographs and, intraoral photographs of upper anterior teeth and dental casts of upper jaws were taken to demonstrate facial form, dental arch form and tooth form. Form analysis is determined by comparing the ratio of the widths of the faces, dental archs and the teeth. The Chi-square test of independence between facial form, arch form and tooth form, was executed and the significance level determined. The results were as follows : 1. The distribution of facial forms was 66.1% square-tapering, 27.0% square, 5.2% ovoid, 2% tapering-square. 2. The distribution of tooth forms was 65.2% ovoid, 20.0% square-tapering, 11.3 % tapering-square, 3.5 % square. 3. The distribution of arch forms was 50.4 % square-tapering, 48.7 % tapering, 0.9 % reverse tapering-square. 4. There was no large differences in the distribution of facial forms, dental arch forms and tooth-forms between male and female. 5. No relationship existed between the tooth form and the facial form. 6. No relationship existed between the facial form and the dental arch form. 7. No relationship existed between the tooth form and the dental arch form. 8. This gave the impression that dental arch form and facial form could not be used as a true index in tooth selection.
In recent years, 3D displays are used in many media including 3D movies, TV, mobile phones, and PC games. Although 3D displays provide realistic viewing experience as compared with 2D displays, they also carry issues such as visual fatigue or size distortion. Focusing on the latter, we developed prediction function of object size perception as a function of object depth in 3D display. In Experiment 1, subjects observed 3D square of a fixed size of varying depth, and manipulated 2D square to make it as large as the 3D square. Conversely, in Experiment 2, subjects observed 2D square of a fixed size, and manipulated 3D square of varying depth to make it as large as the 2D square. In both Experiments 1 and 2, we found that size perception of 3D square linearly changed depending on depth of the square, and the linear relationship between depth and size was identical in both experiments. The predictive regression function, which predicts object size perception based on object depth, obtained in this research will be very useful in the creation of 3D media contents.

This paper has presented a low phase noise oscillator using a square open loop with microstrip structure. A square open loop resonator has a large coupling coefficient value, which makes a high Q value, and has reduced phase noise. This oscillator has presented the oscillation frequency of 5.84 GHz, harmonics of -15.83 dBc and the phase noise of -111.17 dBc/Hz at the offset frequency of 100 kHz. In conclusion, the proposal structure has improved phase noise of 15 dB at the offset frequency of 100 kHz compared with the conventional structure of oscillator.

Both cylindrical cup drawing and square cup drawing are analyzed using membrane analysis as well as shell analysis by the elastic-plastic finite element method. An incremental formulation incorporating the effect of large deformation and normal anisotropy is used for the analysis of elastic-plastic non-steady deformation. The computed results are compared with the existing experimental results to show the validity of the analysis. Comparisons are made in the punch load and distribution of thickness strain between the membrane analysis and the shell analysis for both cylindrical and square cup drawing processes. In punch load, both analyses show very little difference and also show generally good agreement with the experiment. For the cylindrical cup deep drawing, the computed thickness strain of a membrane analysis, however, shows a wide difference with the experiment. In the shell analysis, the thickness strain shows good agrement with the experiment. For the square cup deep drawing, both membrane and shell analyses show a wide difference with experiment, this may be attributable to the ignorance of the shear deformation. Concludingly, it has been shown that the membrane approach shows a limitation for the deep drawing process in which the effect of bending is not negligible and more exact information on the thickness strain distribution is required.
The blockage effect on the aerodynamic characteristics of tall buildings is a fundamental issue in wind tunnel test but has rarely been addressed. To evaluate the blockage effects on the aerodynamic forces on a square tall building and flow field peripherally, large eddy simulations (LES) were performed on a 3D square cylinder with an aspect ratio of 6:1 under the uniform smooth inflow and turbulent atmospheric boundary layer (ABL) inflow generated by the narrowband synthesis random flow generator (NSRFG). First, a basic case at a blockage ratio (BR) of 0.8% was conducted to validate the adopted numerical methodology. Subsequently, simulations were systematically performed at 6 different BRs. The simulation results were compared in detail to illustrate the differences induced by the blockage, and the mechanism of the blockage effects under turbulent inflow was emphatically analysed. The results reveal that the pressure coefficients, the aerodynamic forces, and the Strouhal number increase monotonically with BRs. Additionally, the increase of BR leads to more coherence of the turbulent structures and the higher intensity of the vortices in the vicinity of the building. Moreover, the blockage effects on the aerodynamic forces and flow field are more significant under smooth inflow than those under turbulent inflow.
Three-dimensional numerical study is performed for the flow analysis around the rolling stock with square cross section (Mugungwha train model). The height (H) of rolling stock is considered as the characteristic length and the total length of rolling stock is 40 which correspond to 1/2 unit of rolling stock. The gap between the surface and rolling stock is 0.17H which is average value. The relative velocity between the surface and rolling stock is assumed to be zero and Re=10,000 based on the characteristic length. Low Re ${\kappa}-{\epsilon}$[15] is employed for the calculation of turbulence which resolve all the way to the solid surface (laminar sub-layer). Large flow separation occurred at the front head of train and a pair of vortex is generated on both top and side of rolling stock. The behavior of vortices on the top of the rolling stock is believed to affect the performance of the pantograph which should be intensively investigated. The difference between the high pressure in the front stagnation region of train and the low pressure in the rear separated region causes a large pressure drag. A large pair or vortex are generated in the rear of train and the size of vortex is increased more than the size of cross section of train.
This paper describes large eddy simulation of wind pressures on a square cylinder in a uniform flow and a high-rise building immersed in an atmospheric turbulent boundary layer. For the atmospheric boundary layer case, the inflow turbulence is generated by a numerical wind tunnel. In the numerical simulation, particular attention is devoted to the performance of an auto hexahedral non-structural mesh. Both simulations are performed for three grid systems: an auto hexahedral non-structured grid, a structured Cartesian grid and a non-structured triangular prism grid, and for three grid numbers. The present study shows that the auto hexahedral unstructured mesh achieves the best simulation results for wind pressures on the square cylinder and the high-rise building. When the grid number is sufficiently large, the differences among the results obtained from the three investigated grid systems are not significant. However, the advantage of the auto hexahedral unstructured mesh becomes clear when the grid number decreases, because it enables a balanced distribution of orthogonal grids. The results described in this paper demonstrate that the auto hexahedral non-structured mesh has good potential applicability to simulation of urban flows.
