Seasonal Trend of Elevation Effect on Daily Air Temperature in Korea (일별 국지기온 결정에 미치는 관측지점 표고영향의 계절변동)

  • Usage of ecosystem models has been extended to landscape scales for understanding the effects of environmental factors on natural and agro-ecosystems and for serving as their management decision tools. Accurate prediction of spatial variation in daily temperature is required for most ecosystem models to be applied to landscape scales. There are relatively few empirical evaluations of landscape-scale temperature prediction techniques in mountainous terrain such as Korean Peninsula. We derived a periodic function of seasonal lapse rate fluctuation from analysis of elevation effects on daily temperatures. Observed daily maximum and minimum temperature data at 63 standard stations in 1999 were regressed to the latitude, longitude, distance from the nearest coastline and altitude of the stations, and the optimum models with $r^2$ of 0.65 and above were selected. Partial regression coefficients for the altitude variable were plotted against day of year, and a numerical formula was determined for simulating the seasonal trend of daily lapse rate, i.e., partial regression coefficients. The formula in conjunction with an inverse distance weighted interpolation scheme was applied to predict daily temperatures at 267 sites, where observation data are available, on randomly selected dates for winter, spring and summer in 2000. The estimation errors were smaller and more consistent than the inverse distance weighting plus mean annual lapse rate scheme. We conclude that this method is simple and accurate enough to be used as an operational temperature interpolation scheme at landscape scale in Korea and should be applicable to elsewhere.

Combined Treatment of Livestock Wastewater with Sewage Using Phanerochaete chrysosporium PSBL-1 (Phanerochaete chrysosporium PSBL-1을 이용한 축산폐수와 하수의 연계처리)

  • We studied possibility of mixing treatment of livestock wastewater and sewage using Phanerochaete chrysosporium PSBL-1. Our study showed that 97.6% of SS and 95% of T-P removal efficiency was achieved when 2 mL BF02(a coagulant) and 100 mL C-210EL(a cationic polymer) were added to the mixture(2:1, v/v) of livestock wastewater and sewage. We studied treatment characteristic of Phanerochaete chrysosporium PSBL-1, after were mixed pretreated wastewater and sewage by dillution ten times about livestock wastewater. The removal efficiency of NBDCOD(non-biodegradable COD), $NH_3-N$ and T-N was increased according to increase of pH. That is, T-N concentration of effluent was satisfied 60 mg/L by drain water waterqulity standard of livestock wastewater public treatment facilities with 35 mg/L from a lapse of five days at pH 6.7, 51 mg/L from a lapse of three days at pH 8 and 33 mg/L from a lapse of one day at pH 10. Moreover $COD_{Mn}$ concentration of effluent was satisfied 40 mg/L by drain water waterqulity standard of livestock wastewater public treatment facilities after a laps of one day at all pH. Organics and nitrogen concentrations of effluent were higher case with addition of V.A.(veratryl alcohol) than case without addition of V.A.(veratryl alcohol). $COD_{Mn}$ concentration of effluent satisfied drain water qulity standard of livestock wastewater public treatment facilities from a lapse of one day, when C/N rate(3:1) of influent was not controled. T-N satisfied that from a lapse of two days, when C/N rate was controled with $4{\sim}6$.

  • No mater how brilliant brain a man has, as time goes by, it is certain to fall into a lapse of memory phenomenon in according to cease to exist as a matter of course. But as previously stated, there is no room for douby, if we make advertising information for being changed into a sign which is to be treated easily and simplified, we can easily memory and withdraw it. In other words, the information is to be coded simpler, the memory and recollection of it is to be easier as wll as we can raise the precision rate. Good many advertising today, it appears, try to raise the acknowlegement rate with shock of good-sized and exposure frequency. In this advertising form, we can aspire to the intention of advertiser to try to get lapse of the message of advertising. Of course, even if it cannot be an index of every advertising information called simplified memory and recollection rate, it should be emphasized that it cannot but have something to do with the consumer's memory. Which to be obtained by invested advertisement. As for it, there are so many things to be taken charge of a lots of content by graphic designer: to be obtained mental distribution of resources inconnected with a desire of consumer, to be converted memory information into being less than that and treated easier, and to be correlated the memory information with the previously known things.

A Study of Spatial Interpolation Impact on Large Watershed Rainfall Considering Elevation (고도를 고려한 공간보간기법이 대유역 강우량 산정시 미치는 영향 연구)

  • This study was conducted to identify the effect of lapse rate application according to elevation on the estimation of large scale watershed rainfall. For the Han river basin (26,018 $km^2$), the 11 years (2000-2010) daily rainfall data from 108 AWS (Automatic Weather Station) were collected. Especially, the 11 heavy rain and typhoon events from 2004 to 2009 were selected for trend analysis. The elevation effect by IDW (Inverse Distance Weights) interpolation showed the change up to +62.7 % for 1,200~1,600m elevation band. The effect based on 19 subbasins of WAMIS (Water Resources Management Information System) water resources unit map, the changes of IDW and Thiessen were -8.0 % (Downstream of Han river)~ +19.7 % (Upstream of Namhan river) and -5.7 %~+15.9 % respectively. It showed the increase trend as the elevation increases. For the 11 years rainfall data analysis, the lapse rate effect of IDW and Thiessen showed increase of 9.7 %~15.5 % and 6.6 %~9.6 % respectively.

Electrochemical Precipitation Treatment of Copper from an Heavymetal Wastewater (중금속폐수에서 구리의 전기화학적 침전처리)

  • This research was conducted in the laboratory to investigate an alternative of Copper(Cu) removal from an heavymetal wastewater using the electrochemical precipitation(ECP) process. The ECP unit consisted of an electrolytic cell made of Titanium plate and Steel plate representing anode and cathode. The DC power source applied to the ECP unit had electrical potential(E) of 50$\pm$ 1V, respectively. The synthetic wastewater used in the experiments contained Cu in the 10 mg/l concentration and the electrode separation were 2, 3, 4 cm and the initial pH were 3, 6, 9, 12, and electrolytic concentration were 0.005, 0.0125, 0.025, 0.0375 mole, and the real heavymetal wastewater used in the experiments. From the experiment for removal efficiency according to pH variation, the low pH area doesn't give the coagulation effect by Ti(OH)$_4$ because process interfere with the coagulation and oxidation reaction, therefore the optimum pH was 4-7. The removal rate was 97.75% after the lapse of 30 minutes when copper concentration and electrolytic concentration were respectively 10 mg/l and 0.025 mole. The removal rate was 96.41% after the lapse of 30minutes when the real heavymetal wastewater used. The optimum consumption of power showed 27KWh/m$^3$ when copper concentration, electrolyte concentration and cell potential were respectively 10 mg/l, 0.025 mole and 50$\pm$ 1 Volt.

  • We model surrender rates with a few explanatory variables such as the difference between reference marke rates and product crediting rates, the policy age since the contract was issued, unemployment rates, economy growth rates, and seasonal effects using logit function. We investigate the policy holder surrender behaviors of US single premium deferred annuities(SPDA) and Korean interest indexed annuities under extreme financial conditions.

The Anesthetic Effects of the Epidural Administration of Tiletamin-Zolazepam and Lidocaine in Rats (흰쥐에서 Tiletamine-Zolazepam 및 Lidocaine의 경막외투여시의 마취 효과)

  • This study was performed to evaluate the anesthetic effects of the epidural administration of tiletamin-zolazepam and lidocaine to rats. Blood pressure, heart rate, respiratoty rate and blood chemistry were examined according to the time lapse, after the administration of tiletamine-zolazepam, lidocaine or saline. The results obtained were as follows. 1, Tiletamine-zolazepam group revealed fast anesthesia onset time (p<0.01) and also revealed prolonged ambulation time compared with lidocaine group (p<0.01). 2. In the effects of blood pressure, tiletamine-zolazepam group revealed significantly higher value than lidocaine group or saline group, and revealed the highest value at 20 minutes after administration. According to the time lapse, blood pressure of tiletamine-zolazepam group was recovered and showed similar value with lidocaine group and control group at 90 minutes after administration. 3. In the effects of heart rate, tiletamine-zolazepam group revealed significantly lower value than lidocaine group or saline group and revealed the lowest value at 30 minutes after administration, and recovered similar value with pre-administration at 90 minutes after administration. 4. In the effects of respiratory rate, lidocaine group revealed significantly lower value at 30 minutes administration compared with 0 and 60 minutes after administration (p<0.01). Tiletamine-zolazepam group also revealed significantly lower value at 30 minutes compared with 0 and 60 minutes after administration (p<0.01). The changes at 60 minutes after administration, lidocaine group revealed lower value than saline or tiletamine-zolazepam group, and tiletamine-zolazepam group revealed similar value with 0 minutes. 5. In the effects of tidal volume, lidocaine group revealed significantly lower value than saline group (p<0.001) and tiletamine-zolazepam group also revealed lower value than saline group, at 30 minutes after administration. The values at 60 minutes after administration, revealed similar results with that of 30 minutes after administration. 6. In the blood chemistry, the values of alanine transminase (ALT), aspartate transminase(AST) and creatinine did not reveal significant results at 60 minutes after administration. The values of ALT at 60 minutes slightly decreased compared with pre-administration, and revealed normal level.

Lapse Rate of Air Temperature and Optimizing Rice Cultivation Period in the Taebaek Mountainous Area (태백(太白) 산간지방(山間地方)에서의 기온체감율(氣溫遞減率)과 수도(水稻) 안전작기설정(安全作期設定))

  • The lapse rate of air temperature with respect to the elevation in the Taebaek Mountainous area was calculated and its application to recommendation for the safe cropping period in rice cultivation was attempted. The data for three sites of elevations at 300, 540 and 832-m above sea level were collected from the Regional Rural Guidance Office of Pyungchang Gun. The lapse rate ranged from $0.53^{\circ}C$ per 100-m elevation on January to $1.02^{\circ}C$ on March with average of $0.69^{\circ}C$. The estimated period of possible rice cropping decreased by the rate of 7 to 8 days per 100-m elevation. The rice variety requiring the cumulative temperature of $1800^{\circ}C$ such as Taeback-byo in Jinbu area could be cultivated below 300-m of altitude under the Taebaek Mountainous climatic condition. The variety requiring the cumulative temperature of $1400^{\circ}C$ such as Songjeon-byo could be adaptable up to the 500-m altitude for safe cultivation.

Studies on Garment Restraint(II) - Change of Skin Temperature by Intermittent Restraint Method - (의복의 구속성에 관한 연구(II) - 단속적인 구속방법에 따른 피부온 변화에 대하여 -)

  • We measured change of peripheral skin temperature and mean skin temperature when the upper arm and thigh pressured in order to know the effect of skin pressure applied by clothing on blood circulation. After release from pressure, we observed also recovery condition. At the same time, we examined relation between pressure and a feeling of tightness. Three physiques of healthy females, namely slender, standard and plump, served as subjects. We used intermittent method with skin pressure applied by experimental fabric at l-minute intervals. Besides we made a comparative study with results according to different restraint method (continuous method and intermittent method). As a result of this experiment, we obtained following findings. 1. The significant difference was marked at the pressure, measuring time, physique and measuring region with change of skin temperature under upper arm and thigh restraint by intermittent method. The peripheral skin temperature decreased with the lapse of restraint time. A remarkable tendency observed according to the. increase of restraint pressure. Recovery condition after release from pressure not yet recovered to original state, for all after a lapse of 10 min. The mean skin temperature decreased with the lapse of restraint time in case of upper arm restraint, it was not an obvious tendency except 60mmHg under thigh restraint. 2. Main factor affecting the evaluation of a feeling of tightness was restraint pressure, when the upper arm and thigh restraint by intermittent method. The respondence rate of 'very tight' grew larger according to the increase of restraint pressure. The value of pressure sensation declined after restraint ten times as compared with one time, but there was difference according to restraint pressure. 3. We reexamined change of skin temperature and feeling of tightness by different restraint method(continuous method and intermittent method). The results were as follows. 1) The skin temperature decreased more greatly during skin pressure by continuous method than intermittent method, especially in the peripheral. Without different restraint method, the skin temperature of slender plysique decreased more greatly than that of plump physique. 2) The value of pressure sensation by intermittent method was highly on both sites of upper arm and thigh.

Development of Spatial Statistical Downscaling Method for KMA-RCM by Using GIS (GIS를 활용한 KMA-RCM의 규모 상세화 기법 개발 및 검증)

  • The aim of this study is to develop future climate scenario by downscaling the regional climate model (RCM) from global climate model (GCM) based on IPCC A1B scenario. To this end, the study first resampled the KMA-RCM(Korea meteorological administration-regional climate model) from spatial resolution of 27km to 1km. Second, observed climatic data of temperature and rainfall through 1971-2000 were processed to reflect the temperature lapse rate with respect to the altitude of each meteorological observation station. To optimize the downscaled results, Co-kriging was used to calculate temperature lapse-rate; and IDW was used to calculate rainfall lapse rate. Fourth, to verify results of the study we performed correlation analysis between future climate change projection data and observation data through the years 2001-2010. In this study the past climate data (1971-2000), future climate change scenarios(A1B), KMA-RCM(Korea meteorological administration-regional climate model) results and the 1km DEM were used. The research area is entire South Korea and the study period is from 1971 to 2100. Monthly mean temperatures and rainfall with spatial resolution of 1km * 1km were produced as a result of research. Annual average temperature and precipitation had increased by $1.39^{\circ}C$ and 271.23mm during 1971 to 2100. The development of downscaling method using GIS and verification with observed data could reduce the uncertainty of future climate change projection.
