Landsat 7 ETM+ sensor is getting imageries in the SLC-off state since May 31, 2003 due to mechanical defect of SLC(Scan Line Corrector). Therefore additional correction works are required to use these imageries. In this study, Landsat 7 SLC-off imageries were corrected using Gapfill function and compared with Landsat 5 around the same time. Most of pixels in omitted areas due to SLC-off by producing SLC-off imageries and imageries without visual incompatibility could be achieved as there were not unnatural noises. Also, the corrected imageries were performed land cover classification which was compared with the classification result using reference image. To do this, it could be suggested the possibility of SLC-off imagery. Landsat 7 SLC-off corrected imageries will improve the difficult conditions to detect changes of large areas and be used to detect changes of large areas and classify imageries as well as to recover imagery loss arising regionally such as small scale cloud, etc.

The study was performed to extraction the ground water potential area using LANDSAT TM data. The image processing techniques developed for the study are contrast transformation, differential filtering and pseudo stereoscopic image methods. These were examined for lineament extraction, lineament interpretation and the integration of vertor data with LANDSAT data. The differential filtering method is much usefull for lineament extraction, and all direction lineaments are clearly shown on the band 5 image of LANDSAT TM. The pseudo stereoscopic image are made in which color differential method is adopted, the pair images are usefull for the lineament interpretation. The results of the analysis are as follows. 1) there is a close correlation between lineament and cased well in the study area, because 33 wells of the developed 45 cased wells coincide with the lineaments. 2) 21 sites in the study area were selected for pumping test, and as a result 11 sites of them produces over than 200 ton/day.

On May 31, 2003. Landsat 7 experienced an anomaly causing the Scan Line Corrector(SLC) to stop functioning normally. The SLC-off causes individual scan lines to alternately overlap and then leave large gaps at the edge of the Image. A many scientists with ongoing experience using ETM+ data evaluated the scientific usability and validity of Landsat 7 products containing the SLC anomaly The best reference scene for gap-filling is the other SLC-on Landsat scene that provide same resolution, few changes, and similar data acquisition. But receiving of Landsat imagery is not stable in Korea. So SPOT image can be another alternative solution because it is a steady-state multispectral satellite image as Landsat image. In this study, we filled the SLC-off gap s of 2, 3, 4 bands using SPOT image by a local regression technique, and assigned the optimum spectral value to gaps of 1, 5, 7 bands based on a spectral adjacency. Through this process, we could restore Landsat SLC-off image and evaluated the accuracy of the results.

Landsat data are valuable in itself, and if they are classified in quantitative information and transformed to practical users, they will be more useful. In this view, it is very important to extract hydrologic parameter from Landsat data and to develope the hydrologic model that can be transformed to hydrologist to use it. This study is primary step for accomplishment of such purpose. This paper include output of hydrologic model which define the relation between soil condition and discharge and process of analysis of optical image or digital image that is adapted for hydrologic model. Finally, this paper present that Landsat image is very useful, economic and produce sufficiently accurate information for hydrologic model in large area watershed.
Human activity such as agriculture, industrial development and urban sprawl has been the major threat to wetlands ecosystem, which have caused the greatest losses of coastal wetlands. The Garorim bay provides one of the most important wetland habitate and Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries designated Garorim bay to marine ecosystem protected area in July 2016. The purpose of this research is to analysis the spatial pattern of Garorim bay using Landsat 5 (TM), Landsat 7 (ETM+), Landsat 8 (OLI & TIRS). The surface temperature and NDVI of Garorim bay were processed with spatial analysis method and time series analysis were applied to 25 years Landsat satellite 19 images. The results of time series distribution map compared with the several wetland habitate on remotely sensed images. Landsat images showed the change area of wetland vegetation distribution from 1988 to 2014. The southern part habitate of Garorim bay have been changed with vegetation patterns on coastal wetland which were covered with tidal flat.
The soil in wildfire area Sacheon-myeon, Gangneung, Gangweon Province, Korea, were investigated to clarify pattern of the soils. The soils were classified into 5 types on the basis of vegetation, types of organic matter. thickness of soil horizons, and completeness of soil profile. Each type showed different erosion pattern and Landsat ETM image. Coverage of plant leaves, litter, root, ash and other organic matter was an important component that affected soil color and reflectance of Landsat image (digital number). Although the NDVI (Normalized Distribution Vegetation Index) method in the wildfire area did not show much difference in soil types, the applied supervised classification method showed characteristic pattern of Landsat ETM image of soil types. This study showed that the applied supervised Landsat TM image classification in wildfire area is an effective way to estimate the distribution of erosion pattern of soil in wildfire area.

It is very important to detect land cover/land use change from the past and to use it for future urban plan. This paper investigated the application of Landsat satellite imagery for detecting urban growth and assessing its impact on surface temperature in the region. Land cover/land use change detection was carried out by using 30m resolution Landsat satellite images and hierarchial approach was introduced to detect more detail change on the changing area through high resolution aerial photos. Also, surface temperature according to land cover/land use was calculated from Landsat TM thermal infrared data and compared with real temperature to analyze the relationship between urban expansion and surface temperature. As a result, the urban expansion has raised surface radiant temperature in the urbanized area. The method using remote sensing data based on GIS was found to be effective in monitoring and analysing urban growth and in evaluating urbanization impact on surface temperature.
For generating accurate land cover map over the whole Korean Peninsula, post-mosaic classification method is desirable in large area where multiple image data sets are used. We try to derive an optimal mosaic method of multi-temporal Landsat ETM+ scenes for the land cover classification over the Korea Peninsula. Total 65 Landsat ETM+ scenes were acquired, which were taken in 2000 and 2001. To reduce radiometric difference between adjacent Landsat ETM+ scenes, we apply three relative radiometric correction methods (histogram matching, 1st-regression method referenced center image, and 1st-regression method at each Landsat ETM+ path). After the relative correction, we generated three mosaic images for three seasons of leaf-off, transplanting, leaf-on season. For comparison, three mosaic images were compared by the mean absolute difference and computer classification accuracy. The results show that the mosaic image using 1st-regression method at each path show the best correction results and highest classification accuracy. Additionally, the mosaic image acquired during leaf-on season show the higher radiance variance between adjacent images than other season.

Landsat TM band ratio algorithms were made by in-water optical measurement data of each sampling points for water quality monitoring of coastal area using Landsat TM satellite data. The algorithm was derived from in-water optical reflectance data which was measuring by the PRR(profiling reflectance radiometer). And, in-water optical reflectance data were applied to Landsat TM bands. Relationship between in-water optical reflectance and pigments proposed by the ratio of TM band 1 and band 2 showed to as follows; $Y=3.8352{\times}(R(band\;1)/R(band\;2))^{-2.1978}$ ($R^2$=0.7069) and, relationship of the ratio of TM band 1 and band 3 as follows; $Y=23.288{\times}(R(band\;1)/R(band\;3))^{-1.5243}$ ($R^2$=0.8062). Calculated the upwelling radiance of water surface and radiance of TM showed the ratio of atmospheric effect. In the coastal area Rayleigh and Mie scattering of atmosphere is to make over 80% of normalized radiance of Landsat TM. In order to apply in-water algorithm obtained by PRR, we had to calculate the atmospheric effects at sampling site. And, the quantitative analysis of in-water components using Landsat TM data need the calibration of in-water algorithm and effective method of atmospheric correction.
