  • Hyperspectral image is widely used for land cover classification because it has a number of narrow bands and allow each pixel to include much more information in comparison with previous multi-spectral image. However, Higher spectral resolution of hyperspectral image results in an increase in data volumes and a decrease in noise efficiency. SAM(Spectral Angle Mapping), a method based on vector inner product to compare spectrum distribution, is a highly valuable and popular way to analyze continuous spectrum of hyperspectral image. SAM is shown to be less accurate when it is used to analyze hyperspectral image for land cover classification using spectral library. this inaccuracy is due to the effects of atmosphere. We suggest a decision tree based method to compensate the defect and show that the method improved accuracy of land cover classification.

  • Landcover has been largely influenced by human activities, especially in recent days. The analysis of the change of land use by urbanized development is useful for determining development plan hereafter. This study aimed to the quantitative analysis about the urban sprawl within 12 years from 1985 to 1996, at Chonan, and for extracting the characteristics of change. For this purpose, this study performed land cover classifications using Landsat TM data . A hybrid classification method was used to classify satellite images into seven types of land cover. Road network digitied from 1:25,000 topographic map was rasterized and overlaid on the landcover map. A result of this study showed that area of forest and paddy decreased due to urban sprawl. Especially from 1993 to 1996, the change of land use progressed rapidly because of merging a city and a country in Chonan. The size of patch in forest had been smaller and irregular form. It is a general progress that size of patch in forest had been smaller and irregular form. It is a general progress that the forest have changed the paddy and bare land paddy and bare land have changed low-density urban or high-density urban. This explained how urbanized Chonan was and applied the suggeston of plan in landuse with the result of this study.

  • This study attempted classification through deep learning-based image training for land cover classification in river spaces which is one of the important data for efficient river management. For this purpose, land cover classification analysis with the RGB image of the target section based on the category classification index of major land cover map was conducted by using the learning outcomes from the result of labeling. In addition, land cover classification of the river spaces was performed by unsupervised and supervised classification from Sentinel-2 satellite images provided in an open format, and this was compared with the results of deep learning-based image classification. As a result of the analysis, it showed more accurate prediction results compared to unsupervised classification results, and it presented significantly improved classification results in the case of high-resolution images. The result of this study showed the possibility of classifying water areas and wetlands in the river spaces, and if additional research is performed in the future, the deep learning based image train method for the land cover classification could be used for river management.

  • This study has been on detection of land-cover change on Korean peninsula (including the area of north Korean territory) between May of 1990 year and that of 1995 year using NOAA AVHRR data. It was necessary that imagery data should be registered to each other and should not be deviated much in seasonal variation in order to recognize land - cover change. Atmosphic effect such as clould and dirt was erased by maximum NDVI(Normalized Difference Vegetation Index) method the equation of which was as following $$NDVI(i,j,d)=\frac{ch2(j,j,d)-ch1(i,j,d)}{ch2(i,j,d)+ch1(i.j,d)}$$ Each image of maximum NDVI of '90 year and '95 year was c1assifed onto 8 categories ,using iso-clustering method each of which was water, wet barren and urban, crop field, field, mixed vegetation, shrub, forest and evergreen.

  • The advantage of the remote sensing is extraction the information of wide area rapidly. Such advantage is the resource and environment are quick and efficient method to grasps accurately method through the land cover classification of wide area. Accordingly this study is used to the high-resolution (6.6m) Electro-Optical Camera (EOC) panchromatic image of the first Korea Multi-Purpose Satellite 1 (KOMPSAT-1) and the multi-spectral Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) image data(36 bands). We accomplished FCM classification technique with MLC technique to be general land cover classification method in the content of research. And evaluated the accuracy assessment of two classification method.

  • This study investigates to detect sea surface temperature (SST) and land cover change after tide embankment construction using Landsat Thematic Mapper (TM) thermal infrared (TIR) band data at Shihwa Lake and surrounding area. SST measurement is important for studies of both the structure of the ocean and as the thermal boundary between the ocean and the atmosphere. The TIR band of TM images can be used to detect SST change whose shoreline is complicated and narrow like the study site. The purpose of this study is to estimate SST and land cover change at Shihwa Lake and surrounding area.

  • SAR image is not dependent on the weather condition and Sun's electromagnetic energy. But geometric distortions exist in almost all radar image, it need to be correction. The Radarsat-1 SAR images are used to monitoring of moisture acquired in May 1/1998 and May 25/1998. Radarsat-1 C band data is sensitive on moisture condition. Study area is located in Non-san site. It is made up almost agricultural area and a little of forest area. In May, Rice-planting is started in the midland of Korea. So moisture condition is undergoing many changes. Forest area need to be terrain effect removal for accurately results because it is included in layover, shadow, and so on. Results of land-cover moisture condition map are useful tool for fields of agriculture, forestry industry, and disaster.

  • Observational date is integral in our understanding of present climate, its natural variability and any cnange roue to anturopogenic effects. This study incorporates a brief overview of sampling requirements using data from the first ISLSCP Field Experiment (FIFE) in 1987, which was a multi-disciplinary field experiment over a 15km grid in Konza Prairie, USA. Sampling strategies were designed for precipitation and soil moisture measurements and also detecting land cover type. It was concludes that up to 8 raingages would be needed for valuable precipitation measurements covering the whole FIFE catchment, but only one soil moisture station. Results show that as new gages or station are added to the catchment then the sampling error is reduced, but the Improvement in error performance is less as the number of gages or stations increases. Sampling from remoteiy sensed instruments shows different results. It can be seen that the sampling error at 1arger resolution sizes are small due to competing error contribution from both commission and omission error.

  • Aerial videography techniques have been used to inventory conditions associated with grassland, forests, and agricultural crop production. Most recently, aerial videography has been used to verity satellite image classifications as part of the natural ecosystem survey. The objectives of this study were: (1) to use aerial video images of the study area, one part of Taean Seashore National Park, for the accuracy assessment, and (2) to determine the suitability of aerial videography as an accuracy assessment, of the land cover classification with Landsat-TM data. Video images were collected twice, summer and winter seasons, and divided into two kinds of images, wide angle and narrow angle images. Accuracy assessment methods include the calculation of the error matrix, the overall accuracy and kappa coefficient of agreement. This study indicates that aerial videography is an effective tool for accuracy assessment of the satellite image classifications of which features are relatively large and continuous. And it would be possible to overcome the limits of the present natural ecosystem survey method.

  • A radiometric correction method is developed to apply multi-temporal KOMPSAT-1 EOC satellite images for the detection of land-cover changes b\ulcorner recognizing changes in reflection pattern. Radiometric correction was carried out to eliminate the atmospheric effects that could interfere with the image properly of the satellite data acquired at different multi-times. Four invariant features of water, sand, paved road, and roofs of building are selected and a linear regression relationship among the control set images is used as a correction scheme. It is found that the utilization of panchromatic multi-temporal imagery requires the radiometric scene standardization process to correct radiometric errors that include atmospheric effects and digital image processing errors. Land-cover with specific change pattern such as paddy field is extracted by seasonal change recognition process.
