  • Hardness characteristics and microstructures of $Nb/MoSi_2$ laminate composites were evaluated from the variation of fabricating conditions such as preparation temperature, applied pressure and pressure holding time. $Nb/MoSi_2$ laminate composites composed of $MoSi_2$ powder and Nb sheets were fabricated by the hot press. From experimental results, it was found that the lamination from Nb sheet and $MoSi_2$ powder was an excellent strategy to improve hardness characteristics of monolithic $MoSi_2$. However, interfacial reaction products like(Nb, Mo)$SiO_2\;and\;Nb2Si_3$ formed at the interface of $Nb/MoSi_2$ and increased with fabricating temperature.

  • This article describes esthetic improvement in a patient with a missing maxillary left central incisor. Space analysis of the anterior dentition showed that minor tooth rearrangement was needed. Optimal space distribution for restorations was attained by orthodontic treatment. Through transforming tooth shape with porcelain laminate veneers, the maxillary left lateral incisor was transformed into central incisor and the maxillary left canine into a lateral incisor. The maxillary right central incisor was also restored for esthetic improvement. In a case of changing a tooth shape with porcelain laminate veneers, pre-treatment evaluation, space analysis and diagnostic wax-up are important factors.

  • The thermodynamical estimation of the interfacial reaction and the impact properties of $Nb/MoSi_2$ laminate composites containing SiC, $NbSi_2$ or $ZrO_2$ particles are investigated. Laminate composites, which comprise alternating layers of $MoSi_2$ with the particle and Nb foil, were fabricated by the hot press process. It is clearly found out that the interfacial reaction of $Nb/MoSi_2$ can be controlled by the addition of $ZrO_2$ particle to the $MoSi_2$ phase. The addition of $ZrO_2$ particle increases both the impact value and the sintered density of Nb/McSij, The suppression of the interfacial reaction is caused by the formation of $ZrSiO_2$ in $MoSi_2-ZrO_2$ matrix mixture.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the free edge delamination of the laminated composites under uniaxial strain. The laminate is modeled as a set of anisotropic layers with isotropic adhesive layers. Interlaminar stresses are calculated for laminate with various laminate parameters by using two dimensional finite difference method. The redistribution of interlaminar stresses after delamination and the relation between delamination any ply failure are obtained for [.+-.45.deg.]$_{s}$, [0.deg./.+-./.+-.45.deg./90.deg.]$_{s}$ and [0.deg./45.deg./90.deg/45.deg.]$_{s}$ laminates. It was found that delamination can not propagate the entire width of the laminate under the static loading condition.ition.

  • The tensile tests for [0/90]s, [90/0]s, and $[0/{\pm}45/90]s$ laminate composite were accomplished with acoustic sensor and failure processes were recorded by a video camera in real time. Also SEM examinations for fracture and side surface were carried out. The purpose of study is estimation of the failure mechanism and the mechanical properties effected by lay-up orientation for CFRP laminate composite with the hole notch. From the results, mechanical properties were obtained and they are similar between two kinds of cross-ply orientation in CFRP laminate composites, but not on $[0/{\pm}45/90]s$. And accordings to increasing the load, accumulate AE count was increased, regardless of lay-up orientation. Futhermore, failure mechanism was described by a video monitoring and SEM.

  • In this paper, composite laminate pull-through resistance was analyzed using the FEM method and compared with test results. 2D and 3D simplified FEM models, a nonlinear analysis, and a progressive failure analysis utilizing three composite laminate failure theories Maximum Stress, Maximum Strain, and Tsai-Wu were used to predict the FEM results with the test results. The load and boundary conditions of the test were applied to the FEM to simulate the test. A composite laminate pull-through test (ASTM D7332 Proc. B) was designed with a special fixture to collect more precise data. The test results were compared with the FEM analysis results.

  • With the understanding of tooth crown biomechanics and the progress of dentin adhesives, bonded porcelain restorations including a porcelain laminate veneer present an extended spectrum of indications for anterior teeth. Porcelain laminate veneer as a restoration offers the conservative solution that balances the functional and esthetic needs of the anterior dentition. Porcelain's stiffness, its surface characteristics, and the biomechanical strength achieved through bonding to tooth surface enable the restoration of the tooth as a whole supporting occlusal force and masticatory function. Namely, the optical effects inherent in the tooth and the lifelike features of the porcelain make that this restoration approaches the ultimate in esthetic satisfaction for both the dentist and the patient. A 49-year-old female patient with the incisal discoloration of upper central incisors and black triangle between the central incisors was referred to correct her esthetic problems with prosthodontic approach. The patient was satisfied with two porcelain laminate veneers that were made according to prof. Magne and Belser's recommendation.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the bonding strength between porcelain laminate and Ni-Cr alloy in the various surface treatments of the bonding faces. For this study the metal surface of specimens were treated : 1) etching only, 2) sandblasting only, and 3) sandblasting and etching. The porcelain laminate were made and bonded to the metal specimens with light curing composite resin cement. Instron testing machine was used to measure their bonding strength : and the result was obtained as follows : 1. The bonding strength of the double treatment of the sandblasting and etching group was higher than that of the single treatment of sandblasting or the etching group. 2. The bonding strength of the sand blasting group was higher than that of the etching group. 3. The debonding were mainly occurred between the Ni-Cr alloy and the composite resin cement.

  • The purpose of this study is the development of the extensive Rapid Prototyping Technique, which can resolve the long-term manufacturing process, shrinkage and deformation occurring rapid prototyping technique. To begin with, the various specimens for tensile and bending test were manufactured on the basis of this modeling technology. Then, many kinds of the laminate pieces for the test were made by using the sheet steels 1 mm and 2 mm thickness which is composed of the same ingredient. Not only the mechanical strength of the both of the laminate specimens by the developed Rapid Prototyping using projection welding and non-laminate specimens of 5 mm thickness were evaluated, but the mechanical strength of the specimens of the tensile and bending test composed of heterogeneous components were also estimated.

  • Machined graphite/epoxy composite surfaces were studied by using SEM(Scanning Electron Microscopy). surface profilometry and its analysis to determine suitable surface describing parameters for machined unidirectional and laminate composite surface. The surface roughness and profile are found to be highly dependent on the fiber layup direction and the measurement direction. Machined unidirectional and 0.deg. 45 .deg. 90 .deg. plies in laminate composite surface profiles are found to be Gaussian in the direction of machining. Since there exist bare fibers without matrix smearing in 0 .deg. ply, higher surface roughness values were found in this orientation. It was possible to machine 90 .deg. and -45 .deg. plies due to the adjacent plies, which were holding those plies. It was found that the microgeometrical variations in terms of roughness parameters Ra without Dy (maximum Damage Depth) region and Dy are better descriptors of the machined laminate composite surface than commonly used roughness parameters Ra and Ra. The characteristics of surface profiles in laminate composite are well represented in CHD (Cumulative Height Distribution) plot and PPD (Percentage Probability Density) plot. Also, the power spectral density function is shown to be capable of identifying the wavelength distribution of the machining damage.
