Two-dimensional nonlinear free-surface wave problems are analyzed with consideration of viscosity. Navier-Stokes equation and continuity equation are solved by the application of Finite Analytic Method, and MAC scheme is used far the treatment of free surface. Surface tension effect is also considered and laminar flow is assumed. The free-surface waves in shallow water, the flows around a vortex-pair with free surface and the wave ahead of a rectangular body are simulated to test the present numerical scheme. In the shallow water problem, viscous effect due to the friction on the bottom is observed. In the second problem, the approach of a vortex-pair to the free surface is simulated to examine the interaction of vortex-pair with the free surface. In the third problem, the wave ahead of a semi-infinite floating body is simulated.
One-dimensional (1D) models of incompressible flows, can be of interest for many applications in which fast resolution times are demanded, such as fluid-structure interaction of flows in compliant pipes and hemodynamics. This work proposes a higher-order 1D theory for the flow-field analysis of incompressible, laminar, and viscous fluids in rigid pipes. This methodology is developed in the domain of the Carrera Unified Formulation (CUF), which was first employed in structural mechanics. In the framework of 1D modelling, CUF allows to express the primary variables (i.e., velocity and pressure fields in the case of incompressible flows) as arbitrary expansions of the generalized unknowns, which are functions of the 1D computational domain coordinate. As a consequence, the governing equations can be expressed in terms of fundamental nuclei, which are invariant of the theory approximation order. Several numerical examples are considered for validating this novel methodology, including simple Poiseuille flows in circular pipes and more complex velocity/pressure profiles of Stokes fluids into non-conventional computational domains. The attention is mainly focused on the use of hierarchical McLaurin polynomials as well as piece-wise nonlocal Lagrange expansions of the generalized unknowns across the pipe section. The preliminary results show the great advantages in terms of computational costs of the proposed method. Furthermore, they provide enough confidence for future extensions to more complex fluid-dynamics problems and fluid-structure interaction analysis.
Steady laminar natural convection heat transfer from the isothermal square beam attached to an adiabatic plate has been studied for various inclination angles of the adiabatic plate and Rayleigh number by using Mach-Zehnder interferometer in air. As the inclination angles change, the different temperature and fluid flow field were obtained by the ascending heated fluid and the adiabatic plate. In this study, the inclination angles were $0^{\circ}$(positive & negative), $45^{\circ}$(positive & negative), and $90^{\circ}$. The maximum total mean Nusselt number value was found at a positive inclination angle ${\theta}=45^{\circ}$.
The process and facilities of modern chemical plants are becoming increasingly complex, there is possibility of potential risk. Internal chemicals generate stress concentration when operated due to turbulence, laminar flow, pressure, temperature, friction, etc. It causes cumulative fatigue damage, which can damage or rupture chemical facilities and devices. The statistics of chemical accidents found that the highest rate of occurrence was in summer, and in the last five years statistics on chemical accidents, leakage incidents make up a decent percentage of accidents. Chemical leaks can cause serious human damage and economic damage, including explosions and environmental pollution. In this study, based on the leak accident of chemical plant, the risk analysis, and damage effects assessment were estimated using a 3D scanner and FLACS. As a result, if chemicals leak in summer, the risk is higher than in other seasons, the seasonal safety management measures, and countermeasure were estimated.

Purpose: Prosthetic joint infection (PJI) has an enormous physiological and psychological burden on patients. Surgeons rightly wish to minimise this risk. It has been shown that a standardised, evidence-based approach to perioperative care leads to better patient outcomes. A review of current practice was conducted using a cross-sectional survey among surgeons at multiple centers nationwide. Materials and Methods: An 11-question electronic survey was circulated to hip and knee arthroplasty consultants nationally via the BOA (British Orthopaedic Association) e-newsletter. Results: The respondents included 56 consultants working across 19 different trusts. Thirty-four (60.7%) screen patients for asymptomatic bacteriuria (ASB) preoperatively, with 19 (55.9%) would treating with antibiotics. Fifty-six (100%) screen for methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus and treat if positive. Only 15 (26.8%) screen for methicillin-sensitive S. aureus (MSSA) or empirically eradicate. Zero (0%) routinely catheterize patients perioperatively. Forty-one (73.2%) would give intramuscular or intravenous gentamicin for a perioperative catheterisation. All surgeons use laminar flow theatres. Twenty-six (46.4%) use only an impervious gown, 6 (10.7%) exhaust pipes, and 24 (42.3%) surgical helmet system. Five different antimicrobial prophylaxis regimens are used 9 (16.1%) cefuroxime, 2 (3.6%) flucloxacillin, 19 (33.9%) flucloxacillin and gentamicin, 10 (17.9%) teicoplanin, 16 (28.6%) teicoplanin and gentamicin. Twenty-two (39.3%) routinely give further doses. Conclusion: ASB screening, treatment and intramuscular gentamicin for perioperative catheterisation is routinely practiced despite no supporting evidence base. MSSA screening and treatment is underutilised. Multiple antibiotic regimens exist despite little variation in organisms in PJI. Practice varies between surgeons and centers, we should all be practicing evidence-based medicine.
Real-scale fire tests were performed on animal-origin foods using a gas stove with no overheating prevention device. When the animal-origin foods were ignited, a large quantity of white smoke and steam was generated from them; however, when they became dry and began to carbonize, a dark smoke was generated. Even after the gas stove was overheated for more than 5400 s, mackerel, pollack, chicken, etc., did not ignite. However, pork, beef, and tuna caught fire after 2643 s, 2819 s, and 6492 s of heating, respectively. The flame patterns of animal-origin foods were in the forms of a mixed laminar flow and a turbulent flow, and a halo pattern was produced. A sand glass form of the flame pattern was generated when a kitchen hood was operated, but a triangular flame pattern was produced when the kitchen hood was not operated. When the tuna in the pot was overheated, it spontaneously ignited after 6492 s, with the surface temperature of the kitchen hood rapidly rising to 464.5 ℃. Moreover, the temperature at the back of the pot, which was 6 cm away from the outer surface of the upper part of the pot, was 869 ℃ after 6660 s because of the radiant heat. The flame formed a sand glass pattern on the kitchen wall. When the kitchen hood was not operated, or when the flame grew lower than the height of the ceiling, a triangular pattern was formed.

The fluid animation procedure consists of physical simulation and visual rendering. In the physical simulation of fluids, the most frequently used practices are the numerical simulation of fluid particles using particle dynamics equations and the continuum analysis of flow via Wavier-Stokes equation. Particle dynamics method is fast in calculation, but the resulting fluid motion is conditionally unrealistic The method using Wavier-Stokes equation, on the contrary, yields lifelike fluid motion when properly conditioned, yet the complexity of calculation restrains this method from being used in real-time applications. Global illumination is generally successful in producing premium-Duality rendered images, but is also excessively slow for real-time applications. In this paper, we propose a rapid fluid animation method incorporating enhanced particle dynamics simulation method and pre-integrated volume rendering technique. The particle dynamics simulation of fluid flow was conducted in real-time using Lennard-Jones model, and the computation efficiency was enhanced such that a small number of particles can represent a significant volume. For real-time rendering, pre-integrated volume rendering method was used so that fewer slices than ever can construct seamless inter-laminar shades. The proposed method could successfully simulate and render the fluid motion in real time at an acceptable speed and visual quality.
Ultrafiltration (UF) tests performed on traditional soy sauce (kanjang) using UF flat membrane test cell unit with thin film laminar flow similar to the spiral type membrane module in batch operations revealed reduction in permeate flux is proportional to the logarithm values of volume reduction ratio of the retentate kanjang at different feed rate of kanjang. Feed rate of 1.5 L/min was found to be adequate for long-term UF operation of kanjang using the test unit attached with MW cut-off size of 200,000 dalton polyoleffin plastic membrane in batch operation with the least concentration polarization. The higher the feed rate of kanjang, the lower the permeability of total nitrogen and NaCl, resulting in lower optical density at 500 nm and lower permeability of minerals such as Cu, Mn, and Mg. Microbial cells were completely rejected regardless of the feed rate, whereas most free amino acids were not.

Soot and tar which were derived from combustion or pyrolysis processes in Puverized Coal(PC) furnace or boiler have been significantly dealing in a radiative heat transfer and an additional source of NOx. Furthermore, the increasing for the use of a coal with low caloric value gives rise to a lot of tar-soot yield and LOI in a recycled ash for using cement materials. So, the ash with higher tar-soot yield and LOI can not recycle due to decreased strength of concrete. In this study, tar-soot yields and flame structures were investigated using the LFR for a blending combustion with bituminous coal and sub-bituminous coal. Also, The investigation were conducted as each single coals and blending ratio. The coals are used in a doestic power plant. In the experimental results, sub-bituminous coal with high volatile contents shows longer soot cloud length than bituminous coal, but overall flame length was shorter than bituminous coal. Tar-soot yields of sub-bituminous coal is lower than those of bituminous coal. Combustion characteristics are different between single coal and blended coal. Therefore, finding an optimal coal blending ratio according to coal rank effects on tar-soot yields.

Left ventricular thrombus is mainly caused by anterior myocardial infarction or severe cardiac wall dysfunction of the apex, and is rarely caused by a complication of acute myocarditis. A 12-year-old female who developed symptoms of motor dysphasia and incomplete hemiparesis of the right side was admitted to the hospital. The brain MRI taken on the day of her admission showed acute cerebral infarction in the left basal ganglia and the frontoparietal lobe. The echocardiogram showed a movable thrombus, which was $19{\times}28mm$ sized and located in the apex of the left ventricle. So in order to prevent further thromboembolic event we performed open cardiac surgery via the atrium and removed the thrombus of the left ventricle. After the removal of the thrombus her symptoms improved and she was discharged from the hospital. Thrombus formation in acute viral myocarditis are considered to be related with endocardial injury and blood flow stasis. Treatment with anticoagulants in left ventricular thrombosis may not be effective and may even cause a major thromboembolism. When the thrombus is laminar and fixed, one should consider anticoagulant therapy. But if the thrombus is pedunculated and movable, which means that there are higher possibilities of major embolism or there may be already one, one should consider surgical removal. We report a 12-year-old girl who required surgical removal of a left ventricular thrombus caused by acute viral myocarditis.
