  • Legg-Calve-Perthes diseases were diagnosed in 2 dogs showing signs of lameness. In radiographs, the abnormal size and shape was due to the collapse of the left capital bone and enlarged femoral neck was seen at case I. The completely deformed left femoral head resulted from the earlier collapse of the osteolytic bone of the caput femoris at case II. In treatment, femoral head ezcision was performed in one dog.

젖소 족피부염(足皮膚炎)에 대한 오존연고의 치료(治療) 효과(效果) (The Efficacy of Ozone Ointment Therapy on Pododermatitis of Dairy Cows)

  • Thirty dairy cows with pododermatitis were selected and treatment effect of ozone ointment for bovine pododermatitis was investigated. In addition, bactericidal effect of ozone ointment on etiological agent of bovine pododermatitis was evaluated. The pathohistological examination for the pododermatitis, according to application with ozone ointment was investigated. Thirty dairy cows were divided two groups: control group(vaseline group: 15 cows), treatment group(ozone ointment group: 15 cows). Various parameters were evaluated in terms of the lameness score, swelling score, lesion score, WBC, neutrophil, pathohistological finding, and antimicrobial action. As compared with vaseline group, ozone ointment group revealed significant decrease of lameness(p<0.05), swelling(p<0.01) and lesion score(p<0.05) were shown in hoof lesions on 14 days after application. In hematological findings, WBC count revealed slightly high values within normal range before treatment, however, this was 1Corresponding author improved on 14 days after application of ozone ointment. The number of neutrophils was slightly higher than that of normal, however, this was improved on 14 days after application of ozone ointment. In pathohistological findings, normal dermal tissue was found in tissues with pododermatitis on 14 days after application of ozone ointment. In antimicobial action, marked decrease rate of bacteria was observed in feet of all cases treated with ozone ointment. The decreasing rate of bacteria in anaerobic culture was higher than that in aerobic culture.

  • This study was carried out to determine therapeutic the effect of ozonated water therapy on bovine pododermatitis. In addition, bactericidal effect of ozonated water on etiological agent of bovine pododermatitis was examined. The pathohistological examination for the pododermatitis, according to application with ozonated water and ozone ointment was investigated. Thirty healthy cattle were divided two groups(each of 15) : control group(povidone group), treatment group(ozone solution group). Various parameters were evaluated in terms of the lameness score, swelling score, lesion score, WBC count, neutrophil count, pathohistological finding, and antimicrobial action. The decrease of lameness and lesion score were shown in hoof lesions on 14 days after application of ozonated water. 새끼고양이에서 발생한 고독성 칼리시바이러스(VS-FCV) 감염증 (Virulent Systemic Feline Calicivirus Infection in a Kitten)

  • 5개월령 코리안 숏헤어 새끼 고양이(몸무게 1.7 kg)가 상부호흡기 증상, 얼굴과 발/발바닥의 궤양과 부종 및 파행을 주증으로 내원하였다. 실험실 검사상, 백혈구감소증, 림프구 감소증, 췌장염 및 칼리시바이러스 감염증이 확인되었다. 진단은 고독성 칼리시바이러스 감염증에 대한 특이 임상증상과 PCR을 통한 칼리시바이러스 동정 및 다른 상부호흡기 감염을 배제함으로써 내려졌다. 상부호흡기 증상완화와 이차 감염에 대한 처치 및 보조요법을 약 한 달간 실시하였고, 환자는 이러한 치료를 통해 임상증상이 크게 개선되었다. 본 증례는 고독성 고양이 칼리시바이러스에 대한 첫 번째 발병증례이다.

개에서 경골 조면 내측에 피질골 나사못을 장착하는 방법에 의한 내측 슬개골 탈구 치료 증례 (Treatment of Medial Patellar Luxation by Placement of a Cortical Screw on the Medial Side of the Tibial Crest in a Dog)

  • 8 kg, 9개월령 중성화 수컷 시바 이누견이 양측 후지의 간헐적인 파행 증상으로 내원하였다. 검사를 통해 3단계의 양측 슬개골 탈구가 진단되었다. 대퇴 사두근의 정상 배열을 회복하기 위해서 상대적으로 비침습적인 조면의 위치를 재배열하는 독특한 수술 방법을 적용하였다. 이 과정은 경골 능선을 따라 경골 조면의 내측 피질골을 절개하고, 경골 조면을 외측으로 변위시키기 위해 경골 능선의 내측에 피질골 나사못을 장착하는 방식으로 이루어졌다. 수술 후 3개월 검사에서 양측 후지의 파행과 슬개골 탈구가 개선된 것이 확인되었다. 이 수술 기법은 골격이 미성숙한 환자에서 내측 슬개골 탈구를 치료하기 위한 효과적인 방법으로 고려될 수 있다.

동물(젖소)건강 Monitoring system 모델 개발 V. 임상학적 위해요소 분석 (Development of Animal Health Monitoring System Model V. Analysis of Risk Factors in Clinical Part)

  • An animal health monitoring system in Gyeongnam area (near-Chinju) was studied to evaluate the environmental risk factors, physical examinations and 4 disease entities(abomasal displacement, traumatic reticulopericarditis & -peritonitis, milk fever and lameness) in 40(34 in second year)dairy herds (total 1253 dairy cattle). In feeding environments, we examined housing system, forage percentage in ration, stall types, playground, cleanness of stall. In housing system, most of herds (60%) have tie-stall types and 36 herds are open-type housing. The forage ratio of ration was less than 50% in most of herds (67%). 39 herds had their own playgrounds and the frequency of playground cleanness was irregular, Physical examinations included the T(temperature), P (pulse), R (respiration), abnormalities of superficial lymph nodes, claw examination and total CBC with blood from tail veins. T, P, R are within normal limits (T : 38.1$\pm$0.6$^{\circ}C$, P : 84.6$\pm$12.9/min., R : 24.0$\pm$7.6/min. ,respectively), the swelling of lymph nodes were shown in 13 cattle and overall claw trimming was required in 3 herds. In blood examination, 23 cattle showed leuko-cytosis and 7 cattle showed low RBC and hemoglobin level, the other cattle were within normal limits (WBC : 8.90$\pm$2.06 10$^3$/ul., RBC : 6.36$\pm$1.02 10$^{6}$ ul, Hb : 9.83$\pm$ 1.20 g/dl PCV : 27.43$\pm$5.67 %, respectively). In 4 disease entities, we found some metallic foreign bodies in men of 13 cattle, which had predisposing factors of traumatic reticulopericarditis and reticuloperitonitis, 13 abomasal displacement, 51 milk fever and lameness in 39 cattle.

A 3D-printing Bone Model for Surgical Planning of Total Hip Replacement after Failed Triple Pelvic Osteotomy

  • A 3-year-old, 26 kg, castrated male Chow Chow was presented for assessment of weight-bearing lameness of the left hind limb. The patient had a history of triple pelvic osteotomy on the left side to correct hip dysplasia 2 years prior to his presentation of clinical signs and underwent total hip replacement on the right coxofemoral joint 1 year later. Upon physical examination, pain and crepitus were noted on the left hip joint during extension. Radiological examination revealed coxofemoral joint subluxation and moderate degenerative bone changes on the left hip joint and pelvic axis, which relates to acetabular angles that were changed after triple pelvic osteotomy (TPO). Preoperative computed tomography was used for 3-dimensional printing to establish an accurate surgical plan. The changed angles of the acetabulum after TPO were evaluated, and rehearsal surgery was performed using a 3-demensional printing bone model. Three months after the THR surgery, the function of the affected limb had improved, with no lameness. Complications, such as luxation and implant failure, were not observed until 6 months after the operation. Accurate evaluation of acetabulum angles and rehearsal surgery using a 3D-printed bone model is effective for total hip replacement after unsuccessful TPO.

Micro Total Hip Replacement in Two Dogs with Legg-Calvé-Perthes Disease

  • A Maltese (case 1) and a Pomeranian (case 2) presented with acute right and left hind limb weight-bearing lameness. On physical examination, they exhibited severe pain and crepitus on the coxofemoral joint of affected hind limb. In addition, decreased thigh girth measurements were noted compared with the opposite leg. Radiological exam revealed necrotic areas in the femoral head of affected hind limb. These dogs were diagnosed with Legg-$Calv{\acute{e}}$-Perthes disease (LCPD). The dogs underwent micro total hip replacement (THR). After surgery, at 3 years (case 1) and 7 months (case 2), both dogs recovered normal activity. The thigh girth and lameness scores were apparently improved in the affected limbs of both dogs. No complications of prosthesis implants, such as loosening, were noted. The clinical outcomes of these cases indicate that dogs with LCPD can be successfully treated with micro THR and have a good prognosis immediately after surgery.

Treatment of Congenital Elbow Luxation using the Ilizarov Technique of Distraction Osteogenesis in a Dog

  • A 6-month-old, 4.1 kg female Dachshund dog presented with intermittent non-weight bearing lameness of the right thoracic limb. Radiographs revealed caudolateral luxation of the right radial head and a shortened right ulna compared to the contralateral limb. Bone lengthening by distraction of the ulna using the Ilizarov technique was performed following ulnar osteotomy. The rate of distraction was 1.5 mm per day, adjusted a total of 3 times daily for a total distraction distance of 10 mm. The Ilizarov fixator was removed four weeks after surgery. The patient showed knuckling due to radial nerve injury that occurred during limb-lengthening. Corrective osteotomy was performed using a plate and pin for the luxation and deformity of the right radial head. The luxation of the radial head was successfully reduced following surgery. However, the knuckling persisted after surgery. Rehabilitation for radial nerve injury was performed using heat therapy, massage, a passive range of motion exercises, water treadmill exercises, neuromuscular electrical stimulation, leash-walking, and acupuncture. 15 months after surgery, the patient showed satisfactory weight-bearing ambulation without recurrence of lameness. The use of the Ilizarov technique is a good surgical option for the treatment of a patient with congenital elbow luxation.

국내 모돈에 대한 발굽 병변 조사 (Survey on claw lesions of sows in Korea)

  • Claw lesion is one of the major causes of lameness in sows and the lameness is one of the reasons for culling of sows from the swine herd. This survey was conducted on sows in total of 8 farms with a total of 684 pigs. The lesions observed in the study were horizontal and vertical claw cracks (CWH & CWV), differences in the length of toes (T) and/or in the length of dew claws (DC) according to crates, breeds and parity of sows. Scores of claw lesions were assigned on 0, 1, 2, and 3 at each foot depending on the severity of the claw lesions. The sows' parity was classified into 1 to 2, 3 to 4, 5 to 8. Prevalence rate of claw lesions in sows raised on punched plastic crate was higher than that in sows raised on tribar crate. In prevlence rate by breeds, inbreed Landrace sows showed higher than that of Yorkshire sows. According to 4 claw lesions, the length of DC was the highest at parity 3~4 and CWV was the lowest at parity 3~4 in F1 crossbred sows raised on punched plastic crates, respectively. In Yorkshire breeds raised on punched plastic crates, the length of DC at parity 5~8 was the lowest and CWH was the highest at parity 3~4, respectively. In Landrace breeds raised on tribar crates, CWH was the highest at parity 1~2 and CWV was the lowest at parity 3~4, respectively. The high parity in F1 crossbred sows showed high prevalence rate of claw lesions than that of low parity and other inbreed sows, respectively. These results may be useful as elementary data in establishment of welfare quality protocol and preventive measures to reduce economic losses from craw lesions in sows.
