This study presents a nondestructive test for underwater PVC pipes. To use guided ultrasonic waves, specially denoted by cylindrical Lamb waves, a test setup was made in a water tank using the pitch and catch mode and specimens were made to give artificial cutouts located in the circumferential direction of the pipes. Total three states of damaged levels were considered to see how the guided waves interact with the defects. For the experimental adjustments, three different pipe diameters (60, 90, 114 mm) were tested, and two factors - incident angle (10 and $40^{\circ}$) and distance (50 and 200 mm) - were tried. From the results, regardless of the diameters and two experimental factors, it is shown that the degrees of defects were recognized through amplitude and arrived time of the very first part of the received cylindrical Lamb waves. Between amplitude and arrived time, it is found that the amplitude gives more sensitive results.

This paper presents a novel approach for Lamb wave based structural health monitoring(SHM) in honeycomb aluminum panels. In this study, a suite of three signal processing algorithms are employed to improve the damage detection capability. The signal processing algorithms used include wavelet attenuation, correlation coefficients of power density spectra, and triangulation of reflected waves. Piezoelectric transducers are utilized as both sensors and actuators for Lamb wave propagation. These SHM algorithms are built into a MatLab interface that integrates and automates the hardware and software operations and displays the results for each algorithm to the analyst for side by side comparison. The effectiveness of each of these signal processing algorithms for SHM in honeycomb aluminum panels under a variety of damage conditions is then demonstrated.
A selection experiment with Romney Marsh sheep was used to evaluate correlated responses to selection. The selected flock was formed in 1979 by the Romney Group Breeders where selection was for prolificacy, defined as the number of live lambs born per ewe joined per year and a randomly selected control flock was established in 1982. Selection for prolificacy resulted in (i) increased ewe fertility, (ii) increased ewe ovulation rate, (iii) increased ewe litter size, (iv) decreased ewe body weight, (v) decreased lamb birth weight and (vi) decreased lamb 8-week weight. The rates of correlated responses per year respectively for ewe fertility, ewe ovulation rate, ewe litter size, ewe body weight, lamb birth weight and lamb 8-week weight were 0.033(0.002), 0.043(0.016), 0.019(0.005), -0.017(0.066), -0.055(0.025) and -0.150(0.057).
The article presents the methodology for finding material damping capacity at higher frequency and at relatively lower amplitudes. The Lamb wave dispersion theory and loss less finite element model is used to find the damping capacity of composite materials. The research has been focused on high frequency applications materials. The method was implemented on carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) and glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) plates. The Lamb waves were generated using ultrasonic pulse generator setup. The hybrid method has been explored in this article and the results have been compared with bandwidth methods available in the literature.
The dispersion and attenuation of Lamb and Leaky Lamb waves propagating in a 1 mm-thick steel plate were investigated. For acquiring a long(or large) range inspection capability, the fundamental symmetric and anti-symmetric wave modes(S0 and A0) over law frequencies were studied. Based on the dispersion curves, as well as pitch-catch and multi-mode simulations, it was shown that the S0 mode over law frequencies is the proper mode to minimize the dispersion and attenuation. In addition, it was shown that the S0 mode couldbe easily distinguished under multi-mode simulation since it has a larger group velocity than the A0 mode.
Suspension system is one of the most important components indespensible for stability and reliability of automobiles. The demands to more safe and durable suspension system have been increased as the automobiles get popular and improve in quality. The crack in the coil spring of the suspension system produced during manufacturing may grow under a fatigue load and cause a severe safety problems which lead to a catastrophic damage to the passengers. Many conventional NDT techniques including ET, RT, and UT are less sensitive or hard to apply to detect the surface breaking crack in the suspension coils partly because the techniques are point-to-point measurement methods, thus take too long time to inspect the coil spring longer than 1m. Contrary to this, Lamb wave technique is full-field measurement method that make it possible to examine the whole coil spring in real time. In this paper, the Lamb wave is applied to the coil spring to investigate the possibility to detect the cracks on the surface of the coil spring.
In Lamb wave detection of damages in smart structures, the excitation pulse is usually designed as a narrow band burst wave for the convenience of analysis and recognition. However, the wideband excitation can excite more modes in plate/shell structure and thus provides extra information for changes of the structure. This paper presents a method that can extract information in wideband Lamb wave signals. By transforming the detected signals into various sub-frequency band, the measured signal can be converted to its equivalences of narrow band excitations, therefore, the information in different frequency bands can be acquired from a single test and in the same time the complicity of wideband signal can be simplified. Some test results are provided to verify this method.
Wear and aging associated damage is a severe problem for safety and maintenance of engineering structures. To acquire structural operational state and provide warning about different types of damage, research on damage identification has gained increasing popularity in recent years. Among various damage identification methods, the Lamb wave-based methods have shown promising suitability and potential for damage identification of plate-type structures. In this paper, a comprehensive study was presented to elaborate four remarkable aspects regarding the Lamb wave-based damage identification method for plate-type structures, including wave velocity, signal denoising, image reconstruction, and sensor layout. Conclusions and path forward were summarized and classified serving as a starting point for research and application in this area.
In this paper, damage detection method by using the time reversal is developed to detect damage on composit structures. The time reversal was investigated for direct root between PZT and PZT, but in case of a circular PZT, lamb wave moves not only along the direct root but also another roots. The center frequency of lamb wave is kept when the lamb waves are reflected from damage. This paper presents experimental and theoretical results for the new structural health monitoring method by above features of lamb wave, and we can increase accuracy of the new structural health monitoring method by using STFT(Short Time Fourier Transform).
