Alfalfa의 급여수준이 산양의 섭취량, 소화율과 질소 및 에너지 이용성에 미치는 영향 (Effects of the Feeding Levels of Alfalfa on the Intake, Digestibility, Nitrogen and Energy Utilization by Korean Native Goats)

  • Alfalfa의 급여수준이 산양의 섭취량, 소화율과 질소 및 에너지 이용성에 미치는 영향을 비교 검토하고자 재래산양을 공시하여 orchardgrass 100% 급여구, orchardgrass 80%+alfalfa 20% 급여구 및 orchardgrass 60%+alfalfa 40% 급여구 등의 3 처리를 두어 시험한 결과는 다음과 같다. CP 함량은 orchardgrass 100% 급여구에 비하여 alfalfa의 급여수준이 증가될수록 높아졌다(P<0.05). 그러나 NDF, ADF, hemicllulose 및 lignin 함량은 orchardgrass 100% 급여구에 비하여 alfalfa의 급여수준이 증가될수록 낮아지는 양상을 보였다. 건물섭취량과 건물, 세포 내용물 및 섬유소 소화율은 orchardgrass 100% 급여구에 비하여 alfalfa의 급여수준이 증가될수록 높아지는 양상을 보여 orchardgrass 60%+alfalfa 40% 급여구에서 가장 높았다(P<0.05). 가소화 및 대사질소의 축적율과 생물가는 orchardgrass 100% 급여구에 비하여 alfalfa의 급여수준이 증가될수록 높아졌다(P<0.05). 가소화에너지 및 대사에너지의 이용성은 alfalfa 급여구에서 다소 높은 결과를 보였으나 처리 간에 차이는 없었다. 이상의 결과로 보아 OG 100% 급여구에 비하여 AA 급여구(AA 20, 40%)는 건물섭취량, 소화율 및 질소 이용성을 높이는데 효과적이었으나 에너지 이용성에는 큰 차이가 없었던 것으로 보아 에너지원을 추가 공급하는 것이 좋다고 하겠다.

한국 재래산양 분만의 인위적 조절에 관한 연구 III. Prostaglandin $F_2\alpha$와 Estradiol-Benzoate 병용투여에 의한 분만수기 효과 (Studies on Artificial Contorl of Parturition in Korean Native Goats III. The Effects of Prostaglandin $F_2\alpha$ and Estradiol-Benezoate)

  • The present study was carried out to establish a practical regimen for artificial parturition induction using prostaglandin F2$\alpha$(PGF2$\alpha$) and estradiol-benezoate in Korean native goats. The effect of parturition induction and the time intervals to induced parturition after injection were investigated. The birth weight and body weight of kids at 15 days of age were measured. A total of 24 pluriparous goats were offered for this experiment. The animals were divided into 4 goats per treatment by the injection time(142, 145 or 148 day of pregnancy) and dosage(5.0$\times$10 or 7.5$\times$7.5mg). The results obtained were summarized as follows : A total of 24 pregnant goats were intramusculary treated with 5.0$\times$10 or 7.5$\times$7.5mg of PGF2$\alpha$ and estradiol-benzoate for parturition induction of Day 142, 145 or 148 of gestation. Parturition was induced in all of the goats(100%) treated. The kids produced from induced parturition were all healthy. The time intervals to induced parturition after PGF2$\alpha$ and estradiol-benezoate injection of 5.0$\times$10 or 7.5$\times$7.5mg to pregnant goats on Day 148(23.22$\pm$0.51~23.40$\pm$1.26hrs) were significantly(P<.01) shorter than those of the 142 days of the gestation(26.34$\pm$2.22~28.39$\pm$3.02hrs). No significant difference was found in the time intervals between the doses(5.0$\times$10 or 7.5$\times$7.5mg) treated for parturition induction. The birth weight of kids from induced parturition was no significant difference between on Day 148 and on Day 142 of gestation. However, the birth weight of kids from parturition induced on Day 148 was found significantly(P<.01) heavier than that of the 142 days of gestation. The body weight of kids at 15 days old was also significantly(P<.01) lighter in the parturition induced on day 142 than those on Day 142. The birth weight and body weight of kids at 15 days old were not affected by 5.0$\times$10 or 7.5$\times$7.5mg injection of PGF2$\alpha$ and estradiol-benzoate for inducing parturition. From the above results, it was concluded that the parturition induction by PGF2$\alpha$ and estradiol-benezoate injection of 5.0$\times$10 or 7.5$\times$7.5mg on Day 142 of gestation, which was correspondent to 8 days before expected spontaneous parturition, was available without any significant troubles.

산양(山羊)에 있어서 Potassium 및 Urea가 Magnesium의 대사(代謝)에 미치는 영향(影響) (Effects of Dietary Supplementation of Potassium and Urea on the Metabolism of Magnesium in Goat)

  • In the present studies, the effects of dietary high-potassium and high-urea on the metabolism of magnesium, calcium and potassium were checked as an aid to clarify the pathogenesis of hypomagnesaemia(so-called grass tetany) in ruminant. A total of 5 Korean native female goats kept in metabolic cage were received high-potassium(Mg: 0.25%, Ca: 0.94%, K: 5.41%), high-urea(Mg: 0.25%, Ca: 0.94%, K: 0.72%) or control(Mg: 0.25%, Ca: 0.94, K: 0.72%) ration for 15 or 21 days. Daily intakes, fecal and urinary excretions and serum concentrations of magnesium, calcium and potassium were measured with an atomic absorption spectrophotometer. The results obtained were summarized as follows: In high-potassium group, absorption, urinary excretion and serum concentration of magnesium were significantly (p<0.01, p<0.01 and p<0.05 respectively) decreased compared with the control group. On the other hand, the body retention was significantly (p<0.01) increased. However, no clinical symptom of hypomagnesaemic tetany was observable throughout the experimental period. No significant effects on the metabolism and seurm content of calcium were detected in the high-potassium group. In the high-potassium group, significant increase in absorption (p<0.01), urinary excretion (p<0.05) and body retention (p<0.01) of potassium were recognized. However, no significant difference in the concentration of serum was observable between the two groups. In high-urea group, no significant difference in the metabolism of magnesium and potassium or in the serum content were recognized compared with the control group. In high-urea group, tthe absorption, urinary excretion, body retention and serum content of calcium were decreased compared with the control group.

지엽류 급여가 임신중인 흑염소에 있어서 유산 발생에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Feeding Browses on the Incidence of Abortion During Pregnancy in Korean Native Goats)

  • 지엽류 급여가 임신한 흑염소의 유산 발생에 미치는 영향을 구명하기 위하여 5${\sim}$6세인 임신 3${\sim}$4개월된 흑염소 20두를 처리구별로 각각 5두씩 배치하여 소나무지엽, 소나무지엽 사일리지, 잣나무발효지엽 그리고 참나무지엽 사일리지를 급여한 결과는 다음과 같다. 일일 조사료 섭취량은 참나무지엽 사일리지 0.36kg, 소나무지엽 0.28kg, 소나무지엽 사일리지 0.24kg 그리고 발효지엽 0.14kg으로 발효지엽 급여구가 낮았다. 지엽류 내의 유해균 중 Salmonella와 Fungi는 소나무 지엽류에서는 나타나지 않았으나 참나무지엽 사일리지에서는 각각 7.93 $10^3$, 11.0 $10^1$cfu/g로 나타났으며 E. Coli도 11.67 $10^1$cfu/g로 소나무류 지엽보다 훨씬 높게 나타났으나(P<.05) 유산 발생과는 상관이 없었다. 유산발생율은 발효지엽, 소나무지엽 사일리지 그리고 소나무지엽 급여구에서 각각 60%, 40% 그리고 20%로 나타났으며 참나무지엽 사일리지구는 유산이 발생되지 않았다. 혈청 중 progesterone 농도는 모든 처리구가 분만 4주전까지는 높은 수준이었으나 분만일에는 급감하는 경향이었고 estradiol 농도는 분만시에 감소하였으며 cortisol 농도는 정상 분만한 참나무지엽 사일리지 급여구가 다른 처리구보다 분만당일에 낮은 경향이었다. 이상의 결과를 고려할 때 임신 흑염소에 소나무지엽류를 급여하면 유산이 발생할 가능성이 있음을 제시해 준다.

  • 한국재래산양(韓國在來山羊)에 대하여 혈청(血淸) LH, FSH, prolactin, estradiol-$17{\beta}$ 및 progesterone의 농도(濃度)를 교배일(交配日)로부터 20일간격(日間隔)으로 140일(日)까지와 분만당일(分娩當日) 및 분만후(分娩後) 10일(日)과 20일(日)에 조사(調査)하였다. 혈청(血淸) LH의 농도(濃度)는 임신(姙娠) 60일(日)에 1.95mIU/ml로 최고치(最高値)였고, 임신(姙娠) 100일(日0까지는 높은 수준(水準)이었으나 그 후(後)로는 급격(急激)히 감소(減少)하여 분만시(分娩時)에는 0.02 mIU/ml를 나타냈다. Prolactin의 농도(濃度)는 임신(姙娠) 140일(日)부터 급격(急激)히 증가(增加)하여 분만시(分娩時)에는 29.75 ng/ml로 최고치(最高値)였으며, 분만후(分娩後)에는 다시 감소(減少)하였다. FSH는 모든 관찰시간(觀察時間)에서 분절하한치(分折下限値)인 1.25 mIU/ml 이하(以下)의 수준(水準)이었다. 혈청(血淸) estradiol-$17{\beta}$의 수준(水準)은 임신기간(姙娠期間)이 경과(經過)할수록 증가(增加)하였으며, 분만시(分娩時)에는 159.62 pg/ml로 최고치(最高値)였고, 분만후(分娩後)에는 월등(越等)히 감소(減少)하였다. 혈청(血淸) progesterone은 임신(姙娠) 120일(日)에 6.62 ng/ml로 최고치(最高値)였고, 그 후(後)로는 감소(減少)하여 분만시(分娩時)에는 1.25 ng/ml로 매우 낮은 수준(水準)이었다.

  • 한국재래산양(韓國在來山羊)의 번식형질(繁殖形質)을 조사(調査)하고, 아울러 70일령(日令)부터 190일령(日令)까지 매(每)15일(日) 간격(間隔)으로 혈청(血淸) 성(性) hormone의 농도변화(濃度變化)를 조사(調査)하였다. 한국재래산양(韓國在來山羊)의 성성숙일령(性成熟日令)과 체중(體重)은 183.6일(日)과 14.3 kg이었고. 발정시기(發情時期)와 발정지속기간(發情持續期間)은 20.3일(日)과 36.7시간(時間)이었으며, 임신기간(姙娠期間), 복당산자수(腹當産仔數) 및 생시체중(生時體重)은 각각(各各) 148.4일(日), 1.4두(頭) 및 1.8 kg이었다. 혈청(血淸) LH의 수준(水準)은 70일령(日令)에서 3.93mIU/ml로 최고치(最高値)였고, 일령(日令)이 증가(增加)할수록 감소(減少)되는 경향(傾向) 이어서 190일령(日令)에는 1.21mIU/ml로 최소치(最少値)였다. FSH는 모든 관찰시간(觀察時間)에서 1.25 mIU/ml 以下의 수준(水準)이었다. Prolactin은 85일령(日令)에 3.09 ng/ml로 최소치(最少値)였고, 175일령(日令)에 4.65 ng/ml로 최고치(最高値)를 나타냈다. Estradiol-$17{\beta}$의 수준(水準)은 일령(日令)이 증가(增加)할수록 증가(增加)되는 경향(傾向)이어서 190일령(日令)에서 7.95 pg/ml로 최고치(最高値)를 나타냈다. Progesterone은 모든 관찰시간(觀察時間)에서 1.0 ng/ml 이하(以下)로서 매우 낮은 수준(水準)을 유지(維持)하였다.

Effects of physically effective neutral detergent fiber content on dry matter intake, digestibility, and chewing activity in Korean native goats (Capra hircus coreanae) fed with total mixed ration

  • Objective: This experiment was to determine proper physical traits in the diet for goats by investigating the effects of physically effective neutral detergent fiber (peNDF) content on dry matter intake (DMI), digestibility, and chewing activity in black goats fed with total mixed ration (TMR). Methods: Six growing wethers of Korean native black goats (Capra hircus coreanae) aged 8 months and weighing between 26.9 kg and 27.1 kg ($27.03{\pm}5.05kg$) were used in this experiment. Three diets of varying peNDF content were obtained by original TMR (T1), 12,000 rpm grinding (T2), and 15,500 rpm grinding (T3) of the same TMR diet. The $peNDF_{1.18}$ content of the experimental diets was 23.85%, 21.71%, and 16.22% for T1, T2, and T3, respectively. Results: Average daily gain (ADG) was higher in T2 group compared to those of the control and T3 groups, but ADG and DMI were not affected by the dietary particle size and peNDF content. Also, there was no difference between apparent nutrient digestibility of dry matter, crude fiber, ether extract, neutral detergent fiber, and acid detergent fiber. Although there was no significant difference, rumination and total chewing time were associated with decreased peNDF content. Conclusion: The feeding of peNDF-based TMR showed no impact on apparent nutrient digestibility and nitrogen balance. Further studies are required with a wider range of dietary peNDF level and particle size to better identify the effect of dietary peNDF and particle size on chewing activity and performance in goats.

Effects of diet and castration on fatty acid composition and volatile compounds in the meat of Korean native black goats

  • Objective: This study determined the effects of dietary treatments and castration on meat quality, fatty acids (FAs) profiles, and volatile compounds in Korean native black goats (KNBG, Capra hircus coreanae), including the relationship between the population of rumen microbiomes and meat FA profiles. Methods: Twenty-four KNBG (48.6±1.4 kg) were randomly allocated to one of four treatments arranged into a 2×2 factorial structure. The factors were dietary forage to concentrate ratio (high forage [HF, 80:20] and low forage [LF, 20:80]), and a castration treatment (castration [CA] vs non-castration [NCA]). Results: Among meat quality traits, the CA group exhibited a higher percentage of crude fat and water holding capacity (p<0.05). The profiles of the saturated fatty acid (SFA) in meat sample derived from CA KNBG showed a significantly lower percentage compared to NCA individuals, due to the lower proportion of C14:0 and C18:0. Feeding a high-forage diet to KNBG increased the formation of C18:1n7, C18:3n3, C20:1n9, C22:4n6 in meat, and polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) profiles (p<0.05). Consequently, the n6:n3 ratio declined (p<0.05). There was an interaction between dietary treatment and castration for formation of C20:5n3 (p<0.05), while C18:1n9, C22:6n3, monounsaturated fatty acid (MUFA) and the MUFA:SFA ratio were influenced by both diet and castration (p<0.05). Nine volatile compounds were identified and were strongly influenced by both dietary treatments, castration (p<0.05), and their interaction. In addition, principal component analysis (PCA) revealed distinctly different odor patterns in the NCA goats fed LF diets. Spearman correlation analysis showed a high correlation between rumen bacteria and meat PUFAs. Conclusion: These results suggest the essential effects of the rumen microbial population for the synthesis of meat FAs and volatile compounds in KNBG meat, where dietary intake and castration also contribute substantially.

  • This study was conducted to observe seasonal and individual changes in semen characteristics and sperm freezability, and sperm penetration into zona-free hamster eggs in Korean native goats. Buck response and change in semen characteristics to electrical stimulations was evaluated for four seasons throughout 2 years and percentage of motile sperm and normal apical ridge acrosome was investigated after equilibration and thawing for 4 seasons with 5 bucks. Sperm penetration rate was evaluated for 4 bucks. 1. Probe insertion at depth of 7cm and repeated stimulation for 3 sec was more effective(P<0.05) in buck response and semen collection than those of other conditions. 2. Semen characteristics from electrojaculation was signficantly(P<0.005) higher in spring and fall for semen volume, in spring and summer for sperm concentration and in fall for sperm motility than those in other seasons, respectively. However, there were no differences in total sperm among seasons. 3. Buck response to electrical stimulation showed significant difference(P<0.05) among individuals in all 3 seasons except winter. Significant individual difference in semen volume was only in spring and summer, but there was no indivudual difference in sperm concentration and total sperm in all season. 4. Washing of semen before freezing treatment was greatly(P<0.05) beneficial to sperm motility after thawing, no matter whether ejaculates exhibit egg yolk coagulation or not. 5. Sperm motility after glycerol equilibration was significantly(P<0.05) low in summer semen and motility after thawing was greatly(P<0.05) higher in winter semen than in other seasons. Freezability of unwashed sperm was significantly difference among bucks, but a yearly freezability of washed sperm after chilling and thawing were no differences among bucks and percentage of normal apical ridge acrosome were not different among seasons and bucks. 6. There was no significant difference in sperm motility after thawing between egg yolk levels in summer, although 20% level gave more higher motility than 5% level. 7. In summer, 3.2% glycerol and 3-h equilibration gave greatest percentage(P<0.05) of sperm motility and normal apical ridge acrosome after thawing. 8. Sperm penetration rate into zona-free hamster eggs was not different between bucks and seasons. Overall, it is concluded that to obtain maximum sperm output and successive semen freezing by electrojaculation method, buck selection with good response in all season could be basically considered and that seasonal effect on sperm freezability was more greater than that of individual bucks.

The Effect of Saturated Fatty Acids on Cellulose Digestion by the Rumen Anaerobic Fungus, Neocallimatix frontalis C5-1

  • The effects of various concentrations of saturated fatty acids (SFA; caprylic, capric and stearic acids) on the growth of the anaerobic fungus, Neocallimastix frontalis C5-1 isolated from the rumen of a Korean native goat were investigated. At higher concentrations of fatty acids (0.1%, w/v), the addition of SFA strongly decreased filter paper (FP) cellulose digestion and polysaccharide-degrading enzyme activity. The sensitivity of the rumen anaerobic fungus to the added fatty acids increased in the following order: caprylic ($C_{8:0}$)>capric($C_{10:0}$)>stearic($C_{18:0}$) acid, although stearic acid had no significant (p<0.05) inhibitory effects at any of the concentrations tested. However, the addition of SFA at lower concentrations (0.01 and 0.001% levels), did not inhibit FP cellulose degradation and enzyme activity. Furthermore, although these parameters were slightly stimulated by the addition of SFA, they were not statistically different from control values. This is the first report examining the effects of fatty acids on anaerobic gut fungi. We found that the lower levels of fatty acids used in this experiment were able to stimulate the growth and specific enzyme activities of rumen anaerobic fungi, whereas the higher levels of fatty acids were inhibitory with respect to fungal cellulolysis.
