The objective of this study is to propose a critical storm duration forecasting model on storm runoff in small river basin. The critical storm duration data of 582 sub-basin which introduced disaster impact assessment report on the National Emergency Management Agency during the period from 2004 to 2007 were collected, analyzed and studied. The stepwise multiple regression method are used to establish critical storm duration forecasting models(Linear and exponential type). The results of multiple regression analysis discriminated the linear type more than exponential type. The results of multiple linear regression analysis between the critical storm duration and 5 basin characteristics parameters such as basin area, main stream length, average slope of main stream, shape factor and CN showed more than 0.75 of correlation in terms of the multi correlation coefficient.
During the past decade, integrated stratigraphy has been effectively applied to many sedimentary basins to analyze stratigraphic response to tectonic evolution. This application has been beneficial to hydrocarbon exploration in the basins because it provides a better understanding of temporal and spatial relationships of hydrocarbon source and reservoir rocks as a function of basin evolution. Like the maturation, migration, and trapping of hydrocarbons, ore-forming processes in hydrothermal deposits may be causally linked to particular phases of basin evolution. Consequently, applying integrated stratigraphy to mineral exploration may be a logical and helpful approach to understanding ore-forming processes and predicting their occurrence, location, and origin. The West Philippine Basin, an oceanic basin half the size of the Philippine Sea Plate, lies in the western part of the plate and south of the Korean Peninsula on the Eurasian Plate. It subducts beneath the Eurasian Plate and the Philippine Islands bordering the Ryukyu Trench and the Philippine Trench with 25-50% of this basin already consumed. However, the history of the opening of the basin's southern region has been a topic of debate. The non-transform discontinuity formed during the seafloor spreading is similar to the transform fault boundaries normally perpendicular to mid-ocean ridge axes; however, it was created irregularly due to ridge propagations caused by variations of mantle convection attributable to magma supply changes. By analyzing high-resolution multi-beam echo-sounding data, we confirmed that the non-transform discontinuity due to the propagating rift evolved in the entire basin and that the abyssal hill strike direction changed from E-W to NNW-SSE from the fossil spreading center. In the early stage of basin extension, the Amami-Sankaku Basin was rotated 90 degrees clockwise from its current orientation, and it bordered the Palau Basin along the Mindanao Fracture Zone. The Amami-Sankaku Basin separated from the Palau Basin while the spreading of the West Philippine Basin began with a counter-clockwise rotation. This indicates that the non-transform discontinuities formed by a sudden change in magma supply due to the drift of the Philippine Sea Plate and simultaneously with the rapid changes in the spreading direction from ENE-WSW to N-S. The Palau Basin was considered to be the sub-south of the West Philippine Basin, but recent studies have shown that it extends into an independent system. Evidence from sediment layers and crustal thickness hints at the possibility of its existence before the West Philippine Basin opened, although its evolution continues to be debated. We performed a combined analysis using high-resolution multi-beam bathymetry and satellite gravity data to uncover new insights into the evolution of the West Philippine Basin. This information illuminates the complex plate interactions and provides a crucial contribution toward understanding the opening history of the basin and the Philippine Sea Plate.
A new high-resolution rnagnetotelluric (MT) survey was conducted for pull-apart basin analysis (Cretaceous Eumsung Basin), combined with surface sedimentological results. Two cross-basinal MT profiles represent an asymmetric form with a subbasin in the southeastern part. These basinal architectures are well compatible with paleoflow directions and facies transitions of surface sedimentology. The results also suggest that the basin fills reflect pull-apart opening with rapid subsidence of the central blocks. Combined with the surface sedimentological data on asymmetric lithofacies distribution, facies transitions, and paleoflow directions of the alluvio-lacustrine systems, the MT data help explain basin-fill processes during the basin formation. For petroleum exploration and basin analysis, the high-frequency MT technique can be a useful substitute for the costly burden of a seismic-reflection survey on land.

The Jeogchung Chogye Basin shows perfect basin formation surrounded with divides, excluding outlet where Sannae River combining various small rivers escapes the basin. High mountains distribute at southwestern, southern and southeastern divides of the basin consisting of hornfels, while hilly mountains are found at northern divide consisting of sedimentary rock. Alluvial fans and flood plains occupy bottom of the basin. While extensive alluvial fans are found at the front of southern divide where rivers with large drainage areas rise, alluvial fans toward eastern and western divides become small due to low elevation of divides. Flood deposits by Hwang River are attributed to development for most of flood plains at northern part of the basin. The basin seems to be developed not by differential erosion or meteorite impact, but by bedrock weathering along lineament or fault lines by ground motion.

This study attempted to study the soil erosion dynamic in the Bagmati Basin of Nepal. In this study, an inclusive methodology that combines Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation (RUSLE) and GIS techniques was adopted to determine the distribution of soil loss in the study basin. As well, this study attempts to study the intensity of soil erosion in the seven different land use patterns in the Bagmati Basin. Soil loss is an associated phenomenon of hydrologic cycle and this dynamic phenomenon possesses threats to sustainability of basin hydrology, agriculture system, hydraulic structures in operation and overall ecosystem in a long run. Soil conservation works, and various planning and design of watersheds works demands quantification of soil loss. The results of the study in Bagmati Basin shows the total annual soil loss in the basin is 22.93 million tons with an average rate of 75.83T/ha/yr. The computed soil loss risk was divided into five classes from tolerable to severe and the spatial pattern was mapped for easy interpretation. Also, evaluation of soil loss in different land use categories shows barren area has highest rate of soil loss followed by agriculture area. This is a preliminary work and provides erosion risk scenario in the basin. The study can be further used for strategic planning of land use and hydrologic conservation works in a basin.
The Tertiary $Ch{\check{o}}ngja$ basin is located in the southeastern coastal area of the Korean Peninsula. It is a lozenge shaped fault-bounded basin with circa $5{\times}5km$ areal extent, isolated from other Tertiary basins by the Cretaceous Ulsan Formation in-between. The northwestern boundary of the basin is a domino/listric type normal fault trending $N30^{\circ}E$, whereas its southwestern boundary is a dextral strike-slip fault (trending $N20^{\circ}W$) with a lateral offset of more than 1 km. The basin is bounded by the East Sea on the eastern margin. Basin-fills consist of extrusive volcanic rock (Tangsa Andesites) of Early Miocene (16~22 Ma in radiometric age), unconsolidated fluviatile conglomerate (Kangdong Formation) and shallow brackish-water sandstone ($Sinhy{\check{o}}n$ Formation). The latter yields abundant Vicarya-Anadara molluscan fossils of early Middle Miocene age. The Tertiary strata become younger toward the northwestern boundary-fault of the basin, showing a zonal distribution pattern parallel to the fault: the younger sedimentary formations occupy a narrow zone of 2 km width along the northwestern boundary-fault, whereas the older Tangsa Andesites underlie them unconformably in the eastern and southeastern portions of the basin. The strata in the basin, including the Tangsa Andesites, are tilted (about $20^{\circ}$) toward the northwestern boundary-fault Sedimentary strata thicken toward the boundary-fault, forming a wedge shaped half-graben structure. A number of small-scale syndepositional normal growth faults and graben structures are observed in the sedimentary strata. These extensional structures have the same trend as the normal northwestern boundary-fault which we interpret as a pull-apart detachment fault. These characteristics imply persistent extension during the basin evolution, caused by a NW-SE directed tensional force. The $Ch{\check{o}}ngja$ basin is, thus, a kind of syndepositional tectonic basin evolved in a strike-slip (pull-apart) regime. The latter was caused by a dextral simple shear associated with the NNW-SSE opening of the East Sea. In view of the fact that the normal growth faults do not cut through the uppermost portion of the youngest $Sinhy{\check{o}}n$ Formation, it is inferred that the tensional force came to be inactive in the early Middle Miocene. This is coincident in timing with the termination of the East Sea opening (15 Ma).

A series of sedimentary rocks which are formed in the Tertiary are distributed around Samcheok(Samcheok-Pukpyoung basin), Younghae(Younghae basin), Pohang(Pohang basin), Gyeongju(Yangnam basin), Ulsan(Ulsan basin), Jeju(Seogyuipo formation) in the southern region of the Korean Peninsula. This study concerned with geological, geophysical, geotechnical properties of the unconsolidated rocks in the Pohang area. A consolidated rocks are classified as hard rock - soft rock - weathered rock - residual soil follows in degree of weathering. But unconsolidated rocks has soil properties as well as rock's at the same time. The results of field excursion, boring, borehole-logging, rock testing, geophysical survey, laboratory test are soft rock range, but the durability of the rock until the residual soil from the weathered rock. We accomplished the rock mass classification of the unconsolidated rocks.
A sedimentation basin for agricultural water quality improvement was researched to analyze the water quality purification characteristics. The sedimentation basin constructed at the inlet of Gamdon reservoir in Muan-gun, Jeollanam-do was selected as the research field of this study. The surface area of the sedimentation basin is $34,000m^2$, volume is $122,000m^3$, and hydraulic retention time is 0.3hr~7.3day. The average influent loading of SS was 156.6kg-SS/d, and the effluent loading was 67.5kg-SS/d with the average removal rate of 56.9%. The average influent loadings of BOD and COD were 33.0kg-BOD/d and 60.3kg-COD/d respectively, and the effluent loadings were 26.4kg-BOD/d and 48.6kg-COD/d with the average removal rate of 20.1% and 19.3% respectively. Therefore, the results of this study show that a sedimentation basin can purify SS and organic matters. The average influent loadings of T-N and T-P were 28.7kg-TN/d and 2.97kg-TP/d respectively, and the effluent loadings were 16.3kg-TN/d and 1.41kg-TP/d with the average removal rate of 43.0% and 52.6% respectively. In conclusion, the overall results of this study show that a sedimentation basin is a feasible alternative to purify organic matters and nutrients.
In this study, the major emission procedures and emission characteristics were identified at the site of sewage treatment plant which is one of the major sources of ammonia. At the same time the emission factors and emission rates were estimated. In order to calculate the emission flux, we used a Dynamic Flux Chamber(DFC), which is found to be a proper sampling devise for area sources such as sewage treatment plant. It was found that the most stable sampling condition was when the stirrer's speed of DFC was 120RPM, and it would be the best time to take a sample 60 minutes later after setting the chamber. The relatively higher flux was shown in Autumn compared to summer and winter. Annual ammonia emission rates procedures were calculated as $906.32{\mu}g/activity-ton$, $1,114.72{\mu}g/activity-ton$ and $437.53{\mu}g/activity-ton$ each at the primary settling basin, aeration basin and the final settling basin, respectively. The ammonia emission rate the highest at in the aeration basin according to this test. This results was due to that the surface of aeration basin or the final settling basin is relatively wider than the primary settling basin.
