  • Knowledge management has recently emerged as an appealing subject in management literature. Although its history is short, it can benefit greatly from the long history of other related disciplines in building its theories. Innovation, organizational learning, knowledge creation, organizational capability building, technology transfer and network, information technology, organizational behavior, and intellectual capital are the disciplines that have accumulated theories related to knowledge management. This paper first presents a conceptual framework that integrates three dimensions: the characteristics of knowledge (tacit and explicit), knowledge process (acquisition, creation, diffusion, storing, measurement, and application of knowledge), and the unit of analysis (individual, organization, sector, and nation). The conceptual framework produces a number of cells that need to be filled by new theories in order to understand knowledge management better. It then reviews existing theories available in the related disciplines that may be used as building blocks in constructing new theories for these cells. Finally, based on the theories available in other disciplines, the paper suggests a set of future research directions for knowledge management at the level of individual, organization, sector, and nation.

  • The ability to share knowledge internally is critical to a firm's capability to gain competitive advantage through the leveraging of a firm's competencies, which are often "imprisoned" and dispersed across it's multiple businesses. The purpose of this paper is to propose knowledge sharing related factors which focus on variables regarding the success of knowledge sharing. To attain this purpose, this paper is structured in four main sections. We examined various concepts of knowledge sharing in the past research. We then briefly discuss about trends of methodological approach from the review of the existing studies. We go on to identify the factors that facilitate or hinder knowledge sharing within the firm. Factors regarding knowledge sharing were identified, analyzed, and summarized. Those factors could be categorize into three dimensions (structural, relational, and knowledge characteristics). Finally, we suggested areas for future research. Implications for the study on knowledge sharing were provided.

  • Korean small and medium sized firms are dramatically expanding during the past two decades. Since small and medium sized firms begun to invest overseas to cope with the external and internal business environment. the influencing factors should defined for the successful foreign investment. This paper presents the research model explaining successful knowledge transfer between Korean small and medium sized firms and partners for foreign investment. This model examines investing companies' organizational characteristics, partners' learning capability and relational characteristics between two partners. Detail variables include the learning culture and codifiability of investing companies, and absorptive capability of partners, and communication and trust as a relational factors between investing companies and partners. The result of empirical analysis of sample companies shows that knowledge culture and codifiability of investing companies, and communication from the relational factors are important for knowledge transfer. These results provide some implications for the successful foreign investment of small and medium sized firms. Firstly the investing company should develop its own learning culture and internal procedure for the successful foreign investment. And frequent communication channel is necessary for knowledge transfer and the trustful relationship between investors and partner.

  • To reduce forgetfulness in continuous learning, in this paper, we propose an improved LwF model based on the knowledge transfer method, and we show its effectiveness by experiment. In LwF, if the domain of the learned data is different or the complexity of the data is different, the previously learned results are inaccurate due to forgetting. In particular, when learning continues from complex data to simple data, the phenomenon tends to get worse. In this paper, to ensure that the previous learning results are sufficiently transferred to the LwF model, we apply the knowledge transfer method to LwF, and propose an algorithm for efficient use. As a result, the forgetting phenomenon was reduced by an average of 8% compared to the existing LwF results, and it was effective even when the learning task became long. In particular, when complex data was first learned, the efficiency was improved more than 30% compared to LwF.

  • Knowledge and Knowledge Management have emerged as a current 'hot issue' for many organizations. This paper starts by exploring the definition of knowledge and knowledge management. It then analyzes the process of knowledge management and suggests the recommendations for effective knowledge management. Finally, it considers the pahership for knowledge management, and especially how librarians as knowledge professionals, users, and technology experts can contribute to effective knowledge management. These suggestions of the study will be used to implement knowledge management system that can organize, transfer, and share explicit and implicit knowledge.

  • This study investigated the degrees of knowledge management processes according to the levels of social capital(i.e., inter-departmental communication, trust, cooperation and integration) as well as information technology(IT) infrastructure(i.e., knowledge storage and transfer IT, and knowledge search IT) in Korean manufacturing firms. We also demonstrated the differences in organizational performance under various degrees of knowledge management processes. Through cluster analysis with social capital variables, we classified sample firms into five groups; 'the highest firms', 'higher firms', 'middle firms', 'lower firms', and 'the lowest firms'. It was also observed that the degrees of knowledge management processes and organizational performance in 'the highest firms' is the highest. With a structural equation modeling technique, the causal relationships among social capital, IT infrastructure, knowledge management processes, and organizational performance were confirmed. Hence, it is concluded that social capital and IT infrastructure have direct effects on knowledge management processes, and indirectly influence organizational performance through the degrees of knowledge management processes.

  • Knowledge sharing is safe to say that we have already embarked on knowledge-based global economy where knowledge is a decisive factor in global competition for corporations. So in the age of knowledge-based management, it is how we use knowledge that decides success or failure for corporations and the competitiveness of their countries at large as well. We did this research with the help of those who were working in ICT industry including manufacturing, tourism, and others. In this research, we looked into how project participants, organizational characteristic, and relational characteristic affect knowledge sharing and utilization, and what are the factors that have positive effects on corporate success. And all the factors presented in the research are found to have positive effects on the knowledge sharing and utilization. The factors appeared to have positive effects starting with project at first and then on corporate success at large.

  • In this paper, we found the improved SPICE heat transfer modeling of impulsed magnetizing fixture system and investigated temperature characteristics using the proposed model. As the detailed thermal characteristics of magnetizing fixture can be obtained, the efficient design of the impulsed magnetizing fixture which produce desired magnet will be possible using our heat transfer modeling. The knowledge of the temperature of the magnetizing fixture is very important of forecast the characteristics of the magnetizing fixture which produce desired magnet will be possible using our heat transfer modeling. The knowledge of the temperature of the magnetizing fixture is very important to forecast the characteristics of the magnetizing circuits under different conditions. The capacitor voltage was not raised above 810[V] to protect the magnetizing fixture from excessive heating. The purpose of this work is to compute the temperature increasing for different magnetizing conditions. The method uses multi-lumped model with equivalent thermal resistance and thermal capacitance. The reliable results are obtained by using iron core fixture (stator magnet of air cleaner DC motor) coupled to a low-voltage magnetizer(charging voltage : 1000[V], capacitor : 3825[$\mu$F]. The modeling and experimental results are in close aggrement.

  • This paper deals with implementation of an expert system to obtain an optimal plan of load transfer for fault restoration with the capability of security monitoring and assessment in distribution systems. Based on the technique of load transfer tree analysis, the proposed expert system can afford to assist system operators in proposing an optimal plan of load transfer for fault restoration, In paticular, an application of the proposed ES to practical distribution systems yields an optimal load transfer plan which ensures system security by considering security assessment for contingency of feeders and main transformers in the knowledge based sense.

  • In the temperature analysis, the heat transfer between the workpiece and the die has an important influence upon the temperature distribution. The accuracy of thermal analysis depends on the proper description of boundafy conditions. A t the contact surface of two materials with different temperature, this requires the knowledge of overall heat transfer coefficients. In order to evaluate the overall heat transfer coefficients, a technique is developed. This technique involves temperature measurement at the contact surface during hot upsetting operations and finite element computation to calcualte the overall heat transfer coefficient.
