The subject of the study was questionnaire for 219 students, excluding the 3rd and 4th graders of the Department of Nursing. Collected data were analyzed by frequency, percentage, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation using SPSS 18.0. As a result of the study, knowledge of hepatitis A was determined by gender, major, allowance for a month, HAV education experience within 3 months, personal antibody retention, HAV hepatitis, and cases of HAV infection among family members, hepatitis A prevention behavior showed a significant difference in the type of residence. In order to increase the hepatitis A vaccination rate of university students through this study, the need for vaccination and promotion of adult vaccination is necessary, and the development of a program that enables habitual preventive behaviors is needed.
This is a descriptive study to understand the preventive stage for STDs to provide a basis for sex education for college students. The colleges were selected by quota sampling in five representative cities in Korea. but the 1,691 college students were selected by convenient sampling in the cities nationwide, and the data were collected by self-reporting using a questionnaire consisting of 33 items. The results were as follows : 1. Their mean ages were 21.8 for female and 23.3 for male students, 2.78.0% of the males md 46.5% of the females permitted premarital sex, 57.1% of male and 10.3% of female college students had experienced sexual intercourse, 7. l% of males and 2.4% of females had experienced pregnancy, 10.3% of males and 3.4% of females had been infected with STDs, 72.1% of male and 13.8% of female didn't use condoms at the time of infection. 3. Most of the factors related to STDs infection, such as drinking, smoking, frequency of sexual intercourse. pregnancy, knowledge of STDs, the score of STDs prevention were statistically higher in the male student group than in the female group. 4. The students' mean score of knowledge about STDs was similar between the male group(7.80) and the female group(7.84) with a possible score range from 0-18. 5. Only fifteen percent of male and 9.6% of female students expressed that they will do something to prevent STD. 6. The group having the experience of sexual intercourse(t=3.924, P=.048) and the group of having experience of contracting STDs(t=16.638, P=.000) had shown statistically higher STDs prevention score than the group not having that kind of experience. but the group having experience with pregnancy didn't show any difference from. the group not having experience with pregnancy. Considering that 57.1% of males and 10.3% of females had sexual intercourse experience, 78% of male and 46.5% of female permitted premarital sex, 10.3% of male and 3.4% of female had been infected with STDs. It could be concluded that the college students were ignorant about the prevention of STDs and had unrealistic stage of the STDs prevention. Therefore, enforcement of education for the prevention of STDs including the dynamics of the sexual intercourse and STDs infection is needed.
Deep neck infections were flirty common and a source of considerable morbidity and mortality. Although the advent of antibiotics has reduced the overall number of deep neck infections, they still occur in the general population. There are several new groups of patients at risk for deep neck infections, such as immunocompromised individuals, those with underlying diseases. Prevention of the severe sequale that may be associated with deep neck infections- mediastinitis, airway obstruction, carotid artery hemorrhage, aspiration pneumonia, septicemia - requires a knowledge of various portals of entry for infection, the presenting sign and symptoms, the possible microbiologic features, appropriate laboratory and radiologic workups, therapeutic techniques, and the ongoing medical management. A prompt diagnosis and institution of therapy will shorten the course of required treatment and reduce morbility and mortility. The authors have experienced one case of acute mediastinitis in deep neck infection patient with diabetes mellitus.
Purpose : This study aimed to identify the factors affecting coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infection control practices of nurses in negative pressure isolation rooms. Methods : The participants were 150 nurses working in three hospitals with negative pressure isolation rooms. Data were collected using structured questionnaires and analyzed using an independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, Scheffé test, Pearson correlation coefficients, and multiple regression analysis using the SPSS/WIN 26.0 program. Results : Factors significantly influencing the subject's COVID-19 infection control practice include Being married (𝛽=.18, p =.016), working in a ward with negative pressure isolation rooms (𝛽=.44, p <.001), working in an ICU with negative pressure isolation rooms (𝛽=.27, p =.010), COVID-19 infection control attitude (𝛽=.28, p =.001), anxiety for COVID-19 (𝛽=.30, p <.001). The explanatory power of these variables for COVID-19 infection control practice was 24.6% (F=8.67, p <.001). Conclusion : It is expected that strategies that utilize positive attitudes which believe that COVID-19 disease may be overcome by COVID-19 infection control practice will help improve emerging infectious diseases infection control practice.
The purpose of this study was to examine the knowledge of dental hygiene students about hepatitis B including its seriousness, dissemination, infection route and prevention in an effort to lay the foundation for dental hygiene health education geared toward dental hygiene students who were going to work in clinical field, The subjects in this study were 134 dental hygiene freshmen, 124 sophomores and 102 juniors in some region. The survey was conducted from April 1, to April 14, 2008. An analysis of frequency and X2-test were performed through SPSS 12.0 program. After a survey was conducted, the following findings were given : 1. As for the seriousness of hepatitis B, by academic year the rates of the juniors, sophomores and freshmen who had a correct knowledge stood at 92.6 percent, 84.8 percent and 84.4 percent respectively. Thus, the students were better knowledgeable with academic year. 2. As for dissemination of hepatitis B, by academic year the rates of the juniors, sophomores and freshmen who had a correct knowledge stood at 60.3 percent, 54.8 percent and 52,7 percent respectively. Thus, the students were better knowledgeable with academic year. 3. As for infection route, by academic year the rates of the juniors, sophomores and freshmen who had a correct knowledge stood at 42.9 percent, 44.8 percent and 56.7 percent respectively. Thus, the students were lower knowledgeable with academic year. 4. As for prevention of hepatitis B, by academic year the rates of the juniors, sophomores and fresh men who had a correct knowledge stood at 71.3 percent, 66.5 percent and 58.4 percent respectively. Thus, the students were better knowledgeable with academic year. 5. As for general knowledge of hepatitis B by academic year the rates of the juniors, sophomores and freshmen who had a correct knowledge stood at 54.7 percent, 52.6 percent and 50.7 percent respectively. Thus, the students were better knowledgeable with academic year The findings of the study indicated that many of the students gave the right answers to the questions about the seriousness and prevention of hepatitis B, and that the rate of the correct answers about the route of dissemination was lowest, Accordingly, students should be taught to have a correct understanding of hepatitis B to help provide appropriate preventive treatment and take proper measures.
Purpose: The objective of this study was to examine the relationships between nurses' knowledge and performance for the prevention of intravascular catheter-related infections (ICRI) according to the strength of recommendations in evidence based guidelines (EBG). Methods: The total participants were 144 nurses working for medical surgical unit and intensive care unit. Data were collected from July 12 to July 30, 2010 and analyzed by one way ANOVA and Pearson's correlation analysis. Results: The knowledge and performance mean scores were $0.80{\pm}0.17$ and $3.04{\pm}0.31$ for peripheral venous catheter (PVC) management, and $0.83{\pm}0.17$ and $3.00{\pm}0.30$ for central venous catheter (CVC) management respectively. The items of category IA had the highest knowledge score (F=44.70, p<.001) and the items of category II had the highest performance score (F=47.09, p<.001) in PVC management, while the items of category IA had the highest knowledge (F=20.04, p<.001) and performance scores (F=18.20, p<.001) in CVC management. Knowledge and performance scores were significantly correlated in CVC management (r=.24, p=.004), but not in PVC management (r=.03, p=.753). Conclusion: EBG for the prevention of ICRI was not fully implemented in clinical settings. These findings emphasize that clinical professions need to develope strategies to enhance nursing practices with evidence based guideline.

Background: Cambodian Americans have high rates of chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection and liver cancer. There is very limited information about the utility of community health worker (CHW) approaches to cancer education for Asian American men. We have previously reported our positive findings from a trial of CHW education about HBV for Cambodian Americans who had never been tested for HBV. This report describes similarities and differences between the outcomes of our CHW HBV educational intervention among Cambodian American men and women. Methods: The study group for this analysis included 87 individuals (39 men and 48 women) who were randomized to the experimental (HBV education) arm of our trial, participated in the CHW educational intervention, and provided follow-up data six months post-intervention. We examined HBV testing rates at follow-up, changes in HBV-related knowledge between baseline and follow-up, and barriers to HBV testing (that were reported to CHWs) by gender. Results: At follow-up, 15% of men and 31% of women reported they had received a HBV test (p=0.09). HBV-related knowledge levels increased significantly among both men and women. With respect to HBV testing barriers, women were more likely than men to cite knowledge deficits, and men were more likely than women to cite logistic issues. Discussion: Our study findings indicate that CHW interventions can positively impact knowledge among Cambodian American men, as well as women. They also suggest CHW interventions may be less effective in promoting the use of preventive procedures by Cambodian American men than women. Future CHW research initiatives should consider contextual factors that may differ by gender and, therefore, potentially influence the relative effectiveness of CHW interventions for men versus women.
Objectives : To investigate the sexual behavioral characteristics and HIV/AIDS knowledge among men who have sex with men(MSM), one of the HIV high risk groups. Methods : A three month survey among individuals who were able to be contacted was carried out over the entire Republic of Korea, between May and August, 2001. 348 individuals completed a self-administered question-naire. The data collected included demographic informa-tion, sexual behavior and AIDS knowledge. Results : Eighty-seven and ninety-two per cent of the 348 MSM were aged 20-39 years and had never been married, respectively. Fifty-five per cent of participants reported at least one sexual contact with women, and a quarter of the MSM surveyed had engaged in high-risk sexual behavior (more than 6 partners) during the previous year. About twenty per cent of the MSM had anal sex as their favorite way of having sex, and seventy-four per cent did not use condoms regularly due to loss of enjoyment, and were more likely to be engaged in risky behaviors. Only ten per cent had a regular HIV test history, and most had obtained knowledge or information on HIV/AIDS through the mass media. Conclusions : A large proportion of the MSM in Korea still remain at an elevated risk for contracting HIV infection. Change in high-risk sexual behaviors will prevent the spread of HIV infection among the MSM population, which requires public health education for preventive interventions, and should be culturally and socially specific in order to be effective.

Purpose: This study was conducted to assess the factors that affect the confidence of nurses at small and medium-sized hospitals in the control of infections caused by multidrug-resistant organisms and to establish basic data for the interventional strategy to improve the nurses' execution of the control of infection caused by multidrug-resistant organisms. Methods: A total of 154 nurses working at four small and medium-sized hospitals situated in City C were selected as participants of this study. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire and analyzed using the IBM SPSS 21.0 software. Results: Confidence in controlling infections caused by multdrug-resistant organisms had a positive correlation with the level of knowledge of this control and the health beliefs of the nurses. Factors that affect nurses' confidence in controlling infections caused by multidrug-resistant organisms included perceived benefits (β=.431, p<.001) and knowledge (β=.354, p<.001) with an explanatory power of 36.4%. Conclusion: It was found that the nurses have higher confidence in executing their duties with higher perceived benefits of and knowledge about the control of infections caused by multidrug-resistant organisms. As such, it is deemed necessary to establish strategies to elevate the advantages of and knowledge about infection prevention activities at the time of training/education on controlling infections caused by multidrug-resistant organisms.
Background: Liver fluke infection with Opisthorchis viverrini and its associated cholangiocarcinoma constitute a serious problem in Thailand. Healthy behavior can decrease infection, therefore, the investigation of knowledge, attitude, and practice is need required in high risk areas. Objective: This study aimed to investigate the behavior and perceptions regarding liver fluke. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted in Chum Phuang district of Nakhon Ratchasima province, Thailand during July to November 2015. A total 80 participants who had screened with verbal screening test, stool examination, and ultrasonography, were purposive selected and completed a pre-designed questionnaire (Kruder-Richardon-20=0.80, Cronbach's alpha coefficient=0.82 and 0.79). T-test, ANOVA, and Pearson correlation test were used for analyzed data. Results: The results reveal that O. viverrini infection was 1.25%, and 3 patients had a dilated bile ducts. The participants had a high knowledge, attitude, and practice regarding liver fluke. The education, occupation, and income, were statistical significant to attitude regarding liver fluke. Nurses and television were the main sources of information regarding liver fluke, with statistical significance(p-value <0.05). Knowledge was significantly associated with attitude and practice (p-value<0.05). Conclusions: Participants had good behavior regarding liver fluke. Improvement of knowledge and attitude is influenced to practical change regarding this carcinogenic fluke. In addition, nurse and television are the main information resources for key success in increasing people perception for disease prevention and control in this area.
