Background: In 2008, the Health Authority in Abu Dhabi (the capital of the United Arab Emirates) introduced HPV vaccine free of charge for high school girls entering grade 11, becoming the first state in the Middle East to do so. The objectives of this study were to assess the knowledge, attitude and practice of school nurses in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi about HPV infection and the vaccine. Materials and Methods: A quantitative study was designed and conducted from June to August 2012 in Emirate of Abu Dhabi. Data were collected through direct face to face interviews. from one hundred and twenty five nurses. Results: Knowledge of HPV infection and HPV vaccine was almost universal among the school nurses (97%). The majority of the participants (71%) thought that the HPV vaccine was good. Cultural unacceptability (45%) and lack of women's concern about their own health (21%) were rated as the top barriers for the successful introduction of the vaccine in the UAE. More than half of the sampled nurses (58%) have either given this vaccine to school girls or taken it themselves. The majority (95%) did not come across any side effects from the vaccine. The level of qualification and the place of work did not significantly affect the correct knowledge of HPV infection or cervical cancer prevention methods. Conclusions: The knowledge and attitude of the sampled school nurses in Abu Dhabi State about HPV infection and vaccine is very good in both the public and private sectors. However, a knowledge gap in cervical cancer screening methods was identified.

This study analyzes sexism in children's picture books that incorporate mathematical problems and problem-solving into the plot to determine if children's earliest reading material is affecting the achievement gap between males and females in this subject area. The study focused not just on overall totals of male and female characters, but also analyzed which genders most often portrayed gender stereotyped behaviors and personality traits and which characters were most often shown with mathematical skills. The findings of the study show that there were twice as many male as female characters, and the math problem-solving was generally done by males in the majority of titles.

Pesticides constitute a unique group of biologically active chemicals in that they are produced for deliberate release into the environment, usually to produce some specific biocidal effect. Workers at all stages of pesticide production and application become exposed, at least on an occasional basis, while some experience routine exposure. The general population is, in turn, exposed to the residues, in air, water and food. This review is intended to survey the present knowledge of the immunotoxicity of 20 pesticides. As will be readily seen, knowledge of pesticide immunotoxicology to date is largely descriptive with only modest beginnings toward understanding mechanisms underlying the effects. In most cases the effects have not yet to be defined in immunological state, and just as little is presently known about how these chemicals exert their effects. There is an equally great gap in perceiving any relationship between the structure of a chemical and immunotoxicological potential.

The importance of Information technology (IT) has been growing. Thus, it is critical for firms to choose the optimal information technology development mode in order to ensure that maximum benefit is derived from IT. Despite its importance, however, there is little comprehensive research on choosing the IT development mode that firms undertake. To fill this gap, this study attempts to propose a parsimonious as well as comprehensive IT development framework based on strategic value and the uniqueness of IT resources. In addition, this study analyzes the impact of the fit between the theoretically proposed IT development mode and the actually used mode on the performance of Korean firms. This study contributes to and expands the literature on IT development modes by considering various development modes in real time. Moreover, the results serve as a stepping stone for managers who want to develop or adopt IT effectively.

This paper discusses the potential to upgrade the Thai innovation system by university-industry linkages. Our results are structured into three parts. First, the identification of potentials for university-industry linkages (UIL) within the Thai innovation system shows that the re is a wide gap between absorptive capacities of private companies and knowledge production of universities. Second, we present survey results for individual departments at Thai universities showing that UIL are mostly limited to consulting and technical services, hampered by mutual distrust, and maintained to receive an extra personal income. Third, case studies on four typical modes of UIL allow us to discuss various ways to upgrade the Thai IS by UIL in future.

The purpose of this study is to explore how pre-service elementary teachers perceive and use smart learning environments. For this purpose, 23 pre-service elementary teachers who took theory and practice in a science education course were asked to develop lesson materials using smart tools and make a self-report questionnaire. These data were categorized in an instructional, exploratory, and interactive approach, depending on how they guided students to access knowledge and information. As a result of the study, pre-service teachers perceived the smart tools as the exploratory and interactive learning tools to be used for students to actively search for and interact with data and knowledge. But in developing lesson materials, they usually used the smart tools for resource sharing and communication in the instructional manner. In conclusion, the gap between their perception of smart tools and lesson materials, and the educational implications will be discussed.

최근 인터넷의 급속한 성장은 이미지와 같은 멀티미디어 정보의 급격한 증가를 가져왔다. 따라서 사용자로 하여금 원하는 이미지를 검색하는데 있어서 좀 더 효율적이고 정확한 검색 방법의 필요성이 대두되어 왔다. 일반적으로 이미지 검색 방법에는 키워드 기반 방식과 내용 기반 방식이 존재한다. 그러나 위 두 방법은 지금의 대용량 이미지 데이터베이스 검색에 있어서 여러 문제점들을 가지고 있다. 특히, 키워드 기반 방식을 보완하기 위해서 제안되어진 내용 기반 방식의 경우, 사람이 인식할 수 있는 의미 정보가 아닌 시각 정보만을 이용하기 때문에 시맨틱 갭(semantic gap) 문제가 발생하게 된다. 본 논문에서는 이미지 객체의 시각 정보들에 대한 중간 의미값으로 구성된 시각 정보 온톨로지와 동물에 대한 분류 정보를 표현하고 있는 동물 온톨로지를 구축하고, 이를 이용하여 이미지로부터 .고수준의 의미 정보를 완전 자동으로 추출하는 효율적인 방법을 제안한다.

학교기하에서는 논증기하, 해석기하, 벡터기하 등의 다양한 접근을 다루고 있는데, 특히 이러한 유클리드 기하에 대한 다양한 접근 사이의 연결성은 기하학적 방법과 대수적 방법의 연 결성으로 볼 수 있다. 본 연구는 교과지식의 측면에서, 논증기하증명에서 벡터와 내적의 대수적 성질의 의미를 분석함으로서 학교 수학에서 기하학적 증명과 벡터와 내적을 이용한 대수적 증명의 연결성에 대하여 고찰하였다.

This study adopted the descriptive survey research method. The population of this study comprised of the hearing impaired students in selected government secondary schools in Rivers state. The population of hearing impaired students in Rivers State is 257. A simple random sampling technique was used to select a sample size of 159. A self-developed instrument titled "Availability and Utilization of Library Information Resources Questionnaire (AULIRQ)" was utilized for data collection. 153 responses were collated, indicating a 96.2% response rate. The data collected was arranged and analyzed using frequency count, percentages, and mean and standard deviation. Finding reveals that information resources in the libraries understudied were inadequate and under-utilized. Also, it was established that among other barriers, under-funding is a major barrier to making information resources available for the physically challenged. It was recommended that schools offering special education for the hearing impaired should pace up in their developmental gap by providing such resources and ensure adequate funding by all stakeholders.

본 연구는 글로벌 제휴네트워크에서 파트너선정이 구조화, 제휴관리, 제휴안정도에 미치는 영향을 실증하기 위하여 업체 137곳에 협조를 요청하여 수거한 설문지 중 불성실하게 응답한 것을 제외한 나머지 117개를 분석하였다. 설문은 총 18개로 구성하였고 5점 리커트 척도로 측정하였으며, 분석은 빈도분석, 신뢰도분석, 요인분석, 확인 요인분석, 구조방정식 모형분석, 회귀분석을 각각 하였다. 분석결과, 구조방정식 모형분석에서 파트너 선정은 구조화, 제휴관리에 정(+)으로 영향을 미쳤고, 구조화는 제휴관리에 정(+)으로 영향을 미쳤으며, 파트너 선정과 구조화와 제휴관리가 제휴안정도에 정(+)으로 영향을 미쳤다. 그리고 회귀분석에서 파트너 선정, 구조화, 제휴관리가 제휴안정도에 영향을 미쳤고, 특히 제휴관리가 가장 크게 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 요약하면 파트너 선정, 구조화, 제휴관리는 제휴안정도에 영향을 미쳤는데, 특히 제휴관리는 영향을 많이 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이것은 문화, 자원, 제휴경험 등이 비대칭인 기업들이 제휴목표를 각각 추구하며 발생할 수 있는 차이, 갈등 등을 극복하려면 제휴활동에 고유한 문화, 관리체계 등을 확립하여야 함을 나타낸다. 본 연구는 글로벌 제휴네트워크에서 제휴안정도 결정요인을 규명하였지만 연구대상을 기업에 한정하였기 때문에 제휴네트워크에 참여한 연구기관, 기업지원기관, 교육기관 등을 다루지 않아 연구결과를 일반화하기 어렵다. 향후에 이를 보완한다면 참여주체별 특성을 파악할 수 있을 것이다.
