Apartments have become the most popular type of residential building in Korea since the 1960s. The dwelling space should be designed to accomodate various life styles or changing needs of family members. This research is conducted to analyze flexible interior space types of apartments and to improve the architectural planning and design of apartments that can satisfy various needs of residents. In this study, apartments of 10 - 90 pyeongs built in the region of Seoul, between 1998 and 2007, are investigated in terms of the unit plan, the number of open sides, and a distribution of flexible apartment types for each year, Apartments with flexible space are classified into 10 different types, including a flexible type between bedrooms, a flexible type between a bedroom and the livingroom, and a flexible type between the dinning room and the livingroom. According to the composition of unit plans, apartments are also differentiated as a single-corridor type, a double-corridor type, a stairway type, a hall type, and a combination type. According to these classifications, the characteristics of desirable unit plans were analyzed. The results of the analysis showed that, as the unit size of apartments get bigger, the ratio of width/depth of the front side unit plan is increased. This result reflects a trend of high-rise apartments which have an increased number of front-side bays and a shorter depth for better penetration of daylight. In addition, a hall type is found to have a wider front side and shorter depth. According to open sides, a flexible type of the livingroom and the dinning room/kitchen (L-D.K) is found to be most common for the front/back open space, and the livingroom is usually placed on the front/side open space. To meet the changing needs of residents, more research should be conducted on flexible dwelling space.

Population ageing and the disabled population is increasing. so disabled population and elderly people in the physical environment for Barrier-Free recently has been getting attention. according to a recent welfare paradigm shift of life support promoting for the housing remodeling. but basic remodeling made of simple living environment improvement and facilities installation for the type of disability customised housing remodeling. efficient housing remodeling plan for remodeling before and after through change the safety accidents occurred ratio. living environment for the improvement of housing and reconstruction for the benefit of comprehensively considering for disability subject in Indoor living type and the type of disability, housing type etc. and personalize house was remodeling for corresponding each space problem for identify obstacles and living types. as a result satisfaction changes & safety accident rate changes as follow. first, have complained that there was a in to residents environment furniture for reconstruction of the former housing remodeling needs survey. 80.2% of total for the percentage of households with high needs remodeling. second, The survey did not meet the 29 furniture as after the construction for died about recipient & up sticks & long absence. this leave out after the safety accident Corporation about 101 housing in the 88% of households did not happen. as a result, the lower the ratio of safety accidents occurring very revealed. third, grasp the meaning for indoor living type. showed that each approach(83%), front porch(90%), kitchen, living room(91%), bedroom(93%), toilet(92%) for each space remodeling satisfaction flow through customized housing remodeling.
The aim of this study was to verify differences in autonomic responses that are affected by the configurations of one-room type units using an electrocardiogram (ECG). Accordingly, 43 one-room units that were collected randomly were classified into ten different types of floor plan configurations mainly according to the location of the bathroom and kitchen. An ECG was subsequently measured for each plan type and the average ratio of the LF/HF (Power in low frequency range/Power in high frequency range) was calculated to measure the comfort level of each space. The results revealed a significant statistical difference between the average LF/HF ratio between the plan types (p < 0.05) and provided compelling evidence suggesting that the configuration of the plan may affect the quality of one-room space. This approach appears to be effective in counteracting stress that may exacerbate psychological disorders in single person households.

The housing environment of the weak class in rural area is inferior, the elderly ratio is high, and senior citizens whose living by themselves are increasing. This study was to analyze the actual conditions of utilization status, characterization of residency, management method of the federation of construction associate's love house and local government's case, and usage of the village hall. For better study, we reviewed the literatures and conducted field surveys. The purpose of this study is to suggest a development plan of rural community living homes. The results of this study were as follows; First, it is important for proper site of rural community living home plans to select adjacent location in the surrounding medical and welfare facilities(including community facilities). Second, the living space for one person does not need such a space; about $33m^2$ is suitable. Third, it is important to use surplus area to make kitchen garden in the site planning. Also the architectural plans must be considered to minimize the maintenance costs for the sustainability of the house and winter heating expense problem.
The purpose of this study is to find out the characteristics of area and spatial elements according to the building size and provide the guidelines for space planning of the child care center. This study used the content analysis method and analysis was made on the floor plans for 51 cases and the floor plans were converted to Autocad drawings to analyze the area. The results of this study were as follows; 1) Child care centers over 70% were single-attached building types which made it possible for creating outdoor environments for children. However, most small-size centers which had under 50 children did not have the facilities for outdoor activities. 2) In terms of spatial elements, the basic spaces of the small-size center were the classroom, bathroom, kitchen, office and reference room. The medium or large size centers had extra rooms for special activities and service spaces in addition to the basic spaces. 3) Classroom area per child was 2.65 m2 on average. Space composition ratio on average for care, staff, and service was programmed by 57%, 9%, 34% respectively. Small-size center had relatively more care space when compared to the others. In the case of large-size centers, there was a tendency that service space was increased, but care space was decreased.
Since collective houses are started to be supplied, the housing market has been transformed from supplier to demander oriented, and various type with same area of unit households have been deigned and started to be distributed. It can be expected that such transfer phenomenon would be continuously sped-up, and unit household will be more subdivided and varied. Thus, we analysed and studied the planes with subject of unit households in national housing scale ($85m^2$) that is treated as supply standard and has biggest volume in construction by Korean housing corporation. The analysing method is investigating the area of each room within unit household, calculating their minimum, maximum, and average values, studying the efficiency of unit household plane according to the structure of each room by comparative analysis these values, and analysing changing matter by investigating any change of each room area. The analysing results of which are followings. At first, number of BAY on face is increasing. Second, allocation of each room has been vary. Third, area ratio among bedroom1, livingroom, diningroom/kitchen become similar. Fourth, the area of diningroom/kitchen become somewhat bigger. Fifth, the space for passage way is efficiently allocated. Sixth, service area is reduced, Seventh, stereotyped phenomenon Is appeared. Based on many studies so far, any improvements of unit householder in national housing scale are followings. First, in terms of forming style, unit householder in national housing scale is unfolded in various way though, the form of each room is not more than typical style. Second, it shows stereotyped phenomenon. Especially, bathroom 1, 2 show stereotyped feature in terms of their type and area across entire research years, also LDK allocation method is stereotyped, as well as stereotyped trend in bedroom 2, 3, allocation for 4 BAY type.

Since the middle of 1990, "High Rise Residential Complex" has been started to construct to fulfill the use of high density land use. In addition, it bacame a major solution for a rehabilitation project to achieve a high volume ratio, which in turn brings a good business. In this study, POE is applied to secure residential satisfaction level between Apartment and High Rise Residential complex. Also life style differences are investigated between the two type of complexes. It was resulted that recent High Rise Residential Complex is quite acceptable in most respects, however interior vetillation and direct wind flow from living space through dining - kitchen to ease the cooking scent is not a satisfactory level. These two factors are most highly demanded for future design of High Rise Complex in considering specialties in our cultural life style.
One of the most important factors in determining the quality of living environment is daylighting. Especially its influence in the psychological and biological life of human beings cannot be underestimated. Therefore, lots of researches have been given to develop a more efficient daylighting system. The sunlighting system, one of many developed systems, has been developed and applied in various ways. However, the high cost of sunlighting system has been the most difficult stumbling-block in making it commercial. However, as domestic apartment houses tend to be more luxury, life environment becomes a very important factor more than cost in building apartment house. Therefore, it would be possible to adopt sunlighting system in the non-window areas such as a restroom in an apartment house. This research is a preliminary work in order to measure a possibility of applying sunlighting system in an apartment house. In order to do so, I measure Sunlight Illuminance Ratio in various areas of apartment house. As a result, in case of a residential-commercial building, areas such as kitchen, restroom, and entrance are relatively weak-lighting areas. In case of a traditional apartment house, restroom and entrance are relatively weak-lighting areas. For that reason, a special lighting support is needed in these areas.
The purpose of this study is to give basic information in comparison of workspace of traditional housing between traditional Waga and Choga in Jeju. The subjects of this study are six Waga (roofing tee system), authorized as Jeju Folklore Materials and five Choga (roofing thatch system), authorized as National Major Folklore Materials. The results of this study were as follows. 1. Household workspaces in Waga were separated by three places: Jungji, Chatbang, and Gopang. In Choga, it was separated by two places, Jungji and Gopang. 2 As a number of Jungji, Waga had one, which meant that two or more generations shared the kitchen facilities. Choga, it had one or two Jungji, which meant that each generation used different kitchen facilities. 3. functional space of division Waga was specific. So, meal preparation was done in Jungji, and dining was done in Chatpang. However, in Choga, both meal preparation and dining were done in Jungji. 4. The sequence of space, in the JungjiGeriBulDong style, which Jungji was located in the detached building, showed that the circulation directs: Gopang->Sangbang->Chatbang->Madang->Jungji. AnGeriJungji style, which Jungji was located in the main building, showed that the circulation directs: Gopang->Sangbang(->Chatbang)->Jungji. 5. In the size ratio of household workspace to whole size of the house, Waga occupied 30%, and Choga occupied 21%.

In 1937, most Korean compatriot who lived in Yunhaeju moved to Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan in Central Asia following the deportation policy of Russia. Korean compatriot have kept their traditional life style for 140 years, without a deep relationship with Korea. This study examined the heating systems of Korean compatriot in Yunhaeju, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, Russia. A literature review and field research, based on Ethnography as a research method, was employed. The results of the research were as following: 1) Korean compatriot in Yunhaeju use a Pechika, which is a radiator that uses hot water, and a Gudul as the main heating systems, but the use of a Pechika was most common. A Pechika functions for cooking as well as for warming the house. The room with the Gudul was connected to the kitchen, so this space was used as a place for cooking and eating, for family members to meet. Many kinds of fuel, like gas and electricity, were used to power the heating systems. 2) Korean compatriot in Kazakhstan use radiators, with hot water as the main heating system, with ratio using Gudul used in this region being the highest of all the three areas. The most common fuels used for a Gudul were wood and coal, and gas was also used in cooking. The room with the Gudul was planned to be located beside the fireplace, without any walls. The people using a Gudul use that place for eating and meeting, as well as for family members to sleep. 3) The main heating system of Korean compatriot in Uzbekistan was a radiator using hot water, and those with pipes containing hot water buried under the floor were very common. The function is very similar to that of a Gudul, so most people using this type of radiator would sleep on the floor. Those people with a traditional Gudul not using them were mostly in Uzbekistan. The reason for this was that the family members had diminished, so it was hard work for elderly parents to manage an extra building containing a Gudul. Gas was the fuel generally used for heating and cooking in Uzbekistan. 4) Guduls were used in the Korean compatriot's houses in all three areas, even though they have changed in structure to adapt to the Russian life style. However, Guduls have still been functioning to maintain a traditional life style in Korean compatriot's houses for the gathering of family members.
