  • In this paper, we designed a downconverter for K-band satellite multipoint distribution service(SMDS). The designed downconverter consists of a low noise amplifiers, bandpass filter, stable local oscillator, drain mixer and If Amplifiers. Low noise amplifiers show 28㏈ gain and 1.5㏈ noise figure in the frequency range of 19.2㎓~20.2㎓, and a band pass filter has a -l㏈ insertion loss, and 18.25㎓ Stable local oscillator which is dielectric resonant oscillation, We obtained that the output power of the 18.25㎓ oscillation frequency is 0.5㏈m and the phase noise is the -84.67㏈c at 10KHz offset frequency. With the input RF signal the 19.2㎓~20.2㎓, conversion gain of the drain mixer shows 5㏈ at the Intermediate frequency range of 950MHz~1950MHz. We have proved that the designed downconverter satisfied the specification of a K-band satellite multipoint distribution service and it can be applied to the satellite internet receiver.

  • To extract the 3D geometric information from SAR(Synthetic Aperture Radar) images, two different techniques, interferometric SAR and radargrammetry, have been widely used. InSAR is most widely used for the generation of precise DEM(Digital Elevation Model) until now. But, Interferometric SAR requires severe temporal correlation over areas covered with vegetation and high relief areas. Because radargrammetry is less sensible to temporal correlation, it can provide better results than interferometric SAR in certain, especially X-band SAR. In this paper, we assess the properties of DEMs generated by radargrammetry using stereo C-band RADARSAT-1 images and X-band TerraSAR-X images.

  • In this paper, we present the design and measured performances of an dual-band Gysel power divider based on band-stop characteristic. After the Gysel divider is designed by lumped elements at single operating frequency, and then using filter conversion technique the lumped elements were changed a band-stop characteristic with dual-band characteristics. The features of this design method are that ${\lambda}/4$ transmission line by replacing lumped elements suppressed harmonic characteristics and also can reduce the size. To validate of the proposed power divider, the divider has been designed and measured at 880 MHz and 1650 MHz dual frequencies. The measured performances of the Gysel divider agree with prediction results at two frequencies.

  • This paper deals with the effect of the internal sampling frequency and core band down sampling ratio on the overall performance of the MPEG USAC. Here, the internal sampling frequency is the sampling frequency of a signal actually coded. The core band down sampling ratio is the ratio of the width of the core band over that of the coded band. The performance was measured on 6 different test sound sources by the MUSHRA test with 10 subjects. The experiments showed that 1/3 or 1/4 core band down sampling ratio could yield the better performance than the conventional 1/2 ratio, especially at low rates.

  • A compact microstrip band-selective filter for ultra-wideband(UWB) radio system is proposed. The filter combines the traditional short-circuited stub highpass filter and coupled resonator band-stop filter on both sides of the mitered 50-ohm microstrip line. To realize the pseudo-highpass filtering characteristic over UWB frequency band(3.1 GHz to 10.6 GHz), a distributed highpass filter scheme is adopted. Three coupled resonators are utilized to obtain the band stop function at the desired frequency band. By meandering the coupled resonators, there is $29\;\%$ size reduction in footprint compared to the traditional band-stop filter using L-shaped resonators. The measured results show that the filter has a wide passband of $146.7\;\%$(2.1 GHz to 10.15 GHz) with low insertion loss and the stop band of $10.04\;\%$(5.2 GHz to 5.75 GHz) for 3-dB bandwidth. The measured group delay is less than 0.7 ns within the passband except the rejection band.

  • In this paper, we propose and demonstrate a new four-port BPSK direct conversion receiver based on $0.18\;{\mu}m$ CMOS technology for K-band applications. The proposed direct conversion receiver is composed of two active combiners, an lumped LC balun, two power detectors and an analog decode. The designed direct conversion receiver is successfully demodulated BPSK signal with 40 Mbps in the K-band.

  • We present the catalog of the KVN Calibrator Survey (KVNCS). This first part of the KVNCS is a single dish radio survey conducted at 22 (K band) and 43 GHz (Q band) simultaneously using the Korean VLBI Network (KVN) from 2009 to 2011. A total 2045 sources selected from the VLBA Calibrator Survey (VCS) with an extrapolated flux limit of 100 mJy at K band. The KVNCS contains 1533 sources in the K band with a flux limit of 70 mJy and 553 sources in the Q band with a flux limit of 120 mJy; it covers the whole sky down to -32. ${\circ}$ 5 in declination. Five hundred thirteen sources were detected in the K and Q bands, simultaneously; ~76% of them are flat-spectrum sources ($-0.5{\leq}{\alpha}{\leq}0.5$). From the flux-flux relationship, we anticipated that the most of the radiation of many of the sources comes from the compact components. Therefore, the sources listed in the KVNCS are strong candidates for high frequency VLBI calibrators.

  • We have investigated atomic and electronic structures of a clean Pd(111) surface using low energy electron diffraction (LEED) and angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES). A typical clean LEED pattern with a 3-fold symmetry has been observed, corresponding to that for an fcc (111) surface. ARPES measurements have been performed along the $\Gamma-M,\Gamma-K,\Gamma-M$TEX> symmetry lines, from which the experimental band structure of Pd(111) has been determined. The experimental band structure and work function of Pd(111) surface are found to agree well with the calculated band structure of bulk Pd and the calculated work function of Pd(111), respectively. However, the peak positions in the experimental band structure are located closer to the Fermi level than in the theoretical band structure by 0.1~0.8 eV, depending on the $\kappa$-points in the Brillouin zone. In additin, the experimental band widths are narrower than the theoretical band widths by about 0.5eV. The effects of the localized surface Pd 4d states and the Coulomb interaction between Pd 4d bulk electrons have been discussed as possible origins of such discrepancies between experiment and theory.

  • In this paper, a novel design for a dual-band negative group delay circuit (NGDC) is proposed. Composite right/left-handed (CRLH) ${\lambda}/4$ short stubs are employed as a dual-band resonator. A CRLH ${\lambda}/4$ short stub is composed of a typical transmission line element as the right-handed component and a high-pass lumped element section as the left-handed component. It is possible to simultaneously obtain open impedances at two separate frequencies by the combination of distinctive phase responses of the right/left-handed components. Negative group delay (NGD) can be obtained at two frequencies by using dual-band characteristics of the CRLH stub. In order to achieve a bandwidth extension, the proposed structure consists of a two-stage dual-band NGDC with different center frequencies connected in a cascade. According to the experiment performed, with wide-band code division multiple access (WCDMA) and worldwide interoperability for microwave access (WiMAX), NGDs of $-3.0{\pm}0.4$ ns and $-3.1{\pm}0.5$ ns are obtained at 2.12~2.16 GHz and 3.46~3.54 GHz, respectively.
