One of the goals of the Saudi Arabia 2030 vision is to ensure full employment of its citizens. Recruitment of graduates depends on the quality of skills that they may have gained during their study. Hence, the quality of education and ensuring that graduates have sufficient knowledge about the in-demand skills of the market are necessary. However, IT graduates are usually not aware of whether they are suitable for recruitment or not. This study builds a prediction model that can be deployed on the web, where users can input variables to generate predictions. Furthermore, it provides data-driven recommendations of the in-demand skills in the Saudi IT labor market to overcome the unemployment problem. Data were collected from two online job portals: LinkedIn and Bayt.com. Three machine learning algorithms, namely, Support Vector Machine, k-Nearest Neighbor, and Naïve Bayes were used to build the model. Furthermore, descriptive and data analysis methods were employed herein to evaluate the existing gap. Results showed that there existed a gap between labor market employers' expectations of Saudi workers and the skills that the workers were equipped with from their educational institutions. Planned collaboration between industry and education providers is required to narrow down this gap.

Currently, the second most devastating form of cancer in people, particularly in women, is Breast Cancer (BC). In the healthcare industry, Machine Learning (ML) is commonly employed in fatal disease prediction. Due to breast cancer's favorable prognosis at an early stage, a model is created to utilize the Dataset on Wisconsin Diagnostic Breast Cancer (WDBC). Conversely, this model's overarching axiom is to compare the effectiveness of five well-known ML classifiers, including Logistic Regression (LR), Decision Tree (DT), Random Forest (RF), K-Nearest Neighbor (KNN), and Naive Bayes (NB) with the conventional method. To counterbalance the effect with conventional methods, the overarching tactic we utilized was hyperparameter tuning utilizing the grid search method, which improved accuracy, secondary precision, third recall, and finally the F1 score. In this study hyperparameter tuning model, the rate of accuracy increased from 94.15% to 98.83% whereas the accuracy of the conventional method increased from 93.56% to 97.08%. According to this investigation, KNN outperformed all other classifiers in terms of accuracy, achieving a score of 98.83%. In conclusion, our study shows that KNN works well with the hyper-tuning method. These analyses show that this study prediction approach is useful in prognosticating women with breast cancer with a viable performance and more accurate findings when compared to the conventional approach.

Existing reinforced concrete buildings with seismically deficient column details affect the overall behavior depending on the failure type of column. This study aims to develop and validate a machine learning-based prediction model for the column failure modes (shear, flexure-shear, and flexure failure modes). For this purpose, artificial neural network (ANN), K-nearest neighbor (KNN), decision tree (DT), and random forest (RF) models were used, considering previously collected experimental data. Using four machine learning methodologies, we developed a classification learning model that can predict the column failure modes in terms of the input variables using concrete compressive strength, steel yield strength, axial load ratio, height-to-dept aspect ratio, longitudinal reinforcement ratio, and transverse reinforcement ratio. The performance of each machine learning model was compared and verified by calculating accuracy, precision, recall, F1-Score, and ROC. Based on the performance measurements of the classification model, the RF model represents the highest average value of the classification model performance measurements among the considered learning methods, and it can conservatively predict the shear failure mode. Thus, the RF model can rapidly predict the column failure modes with simple column details.
The presence of excavations or cavities beneath the foundations of a building can have a significant impact on their stability and cause extensive damage. Traditional methods for calculating the bearing capacity and subsidence of foundations over cavities can be complex and time-consuming, particularly when dealing with conditions that vary. In such situations, machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) techniques provide effective alternatives. This study concentrates on constructing a prediction model based on the performance of ML and DL algorithms that can be applied in real-world settings. The efficacy of eight algorithms, including Regression Analysis, k-Nearest Neighbor, Decision Tree, Random Forest, Multivariate Regression Spline, Artificial Neural Network, and Deep Neural Network, was evaluated. Using a Python-assisted automation technique integrated with the PLAXIS 2D platform, a dataset containing 272 cases with eight input parameters and one target variable was generated. In general, the DL model performed better than the ML models, and all models, except the regression models, attained outstanding results with an R2 greater than 0.90. These models can also be used as surrogate models in reliability analysis to evaluate failure risks and probabilities.
The study aims were to evaluate a machine-learning, algorithm-based, forest biomass-estimation model to estimate subnational forest biomass and to comparatively analyze REDD+ forest reference emission levels. Time-series Landsat satellite imagery and ESA Biomass Climate Change Initiative information were used to build a machine-learning-based biomass estimation model. The k-nearest neighbors algorithm (kNN), which is a non-parametric learning model, and the tree-based random forest (RF) model were applied to the machine-learning algorithm, and the estimated biomasses were compared with the forest reference emission levels (FREL) data, which was provided by the Paraguayan government. The root mean square error (RMSE), which was the optimum parameter of the kNN model, was 35.9, and the RMSE of the RF model was lower at 34.41, showing that the RF model was superior. As a result of separately using the FREL, kNN, and RF methods to set the reference emission levels, the gradient was set to approximately -33,000 tons, -253,000 tons, and -92,000 tons, respectively. These results showed that the machine learning-based estimation model was more suitable than the existing methods for setting reference emission levels.
In this paper, we propose an optimization scheme for a k-Nearest Neighbor(k-NN) query, which finds k objects closest to the query in the high dimensional feature vectors. The k-NN query is converted and processed into a range query based on the range that is likely to contain k data. In this paper, we propose an optimization scheme using DNN model to derive an optimal range that can reduce processing cost and accelerate search speed. The entire system of the proposed scheme is composed of online and offline modules. In the online module, a query is actually processed when it is issued from a client. In the offline module, an optimal range is derived for the query by using the DNN model and is delivered to the online module. It is shown through various performance evaluations that the proposed scheme outperforms the existing schemes.

It is a challenge for the current security industry to respond to a large number of malicious codes distributed indiscriminately as well as intelligent APT attacks. As a result, studies using machine learning algorithms are being conducted as proactive prevention rather than post processing. The k-NN algorithm is widely used because it is intuitive and suitable for handling malicious code as unstructured data. In addition, in the malicious code analysis domain, the k-NN algorithm is easy to classify malicious codes based on previously analyzed malicious codes. For example, it is possible to classify malicious code families or analyze malicious code variants through similarity analysis with existing malicious codes. However, the main disadvantage of the k-NN algorithm is that the search time increases as the learning data increases. We propose a fast k-NN algorithm which improves the computation speed problem while taking the value of the k-NN algorithm. In the test environment, the k-NN algorithm was able to perform with only the comparison of the average of similarity of 19.71 times for 6.25 million malicious codes. Considering the way the algorithm works, Fast k-NN algorithm can also be used to search all data that can be vectorized as well as malware and SSDEEP. In the future, it is expected that if the k-NN approach is needed, and the central node can be effectively selected for clustering of large amount of data in various environments, it will be possible to design a sophisticated machine learning based system.
Bacteria are a very common cause of food poisoning. Moreover, bacteria form biofilms to protect themselves from harsh environments. Conventional detection methods for foodborne bacterial pathogens including the plate count method, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA), and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assays require a lot of time and effort. Hyperspectral imaging has been used for food safety because of its non-destructive and real-time detection capability. This study assessed the feasibility of using hyperspectral imaging and machine learning techniques to detect biofilms formed by Escherichia coli. E. coli was cultured on a high-density polyethylene (HDPE) coupon, which is a main material of food processing facilities. Hyperspectral fluorescence images were acquired from 420 to 730 nm and analyzed by a single wavelength method and machine learning techniques to determine whether an E. coli culture was present. The prediction accuracy of a biofilm by the single wavelength method was 84.69%. The prediction accuracy by the machine learning techniques were 87.49, 91.16, 86.61, and 86.80% for decision tree (DT), k-nearest neighbor (k-NN), linear discriminant analysis (LDA), and partial least squares-discriminant analysis (PLS-DA), respectively. This result shows the possibility of using machine learning techniques, especially the k-NN model, to effectively detect bacterial pathogens and confirm food poisoning through hyperspectral images.

Background: Lung cancer remains one of the most common cancers in the world, both in terms of new cases (about 13% of total per year) and deaths (nearly one cancer death in five), because of the high case fatality. Errors in lung cancer type or malignant growth determination lead to degraded treatment efficacy, because anticancer strategy depends on tumor morphology. Materials and Methods: We have made an attempt to evaluate effectiveness of machine learning algorithms in the task of lung cancer classification based on gene expression levels. We processed four publicly available data sets. The Dana-Farber Cancer Institute data set contains 203 samples and the task was to classify four cancer types and sound tissue samples. With the University of Michigan data set of 96 samples, the task was to execute a binary classification of adenocarcinoma and non-neoplastic tissues. The University of Toronto data set contains 39 samples and the task was to detect recurrence, while with the Brigham and Women's Hospital data set of 181 samples it was to make a binary classification of malignant pleural mesothelioma and adenocarcinoma. We used the k-nearest neighbor algorithm (k=1, k=5, k=10), naive Bayes classifier with assumption of both a normal distribution of attributes and a distribution through histograms, support vector machine and C4.5 decision tree. Effectiveness of machine learning algorithms was evaluated with the Matthews correlation coefficient. Results: The support vector machine method showed best results among data sets from the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Brigham and Women's Hospital. All algorithms with the exception of the C4.5 decision tree showed maximum potential effectiveness in the University of Michigan data set. However, the C4.5 decision tree showed best results for the University of Toronto data set. Conclusions: Machine learning algorithms can be used for lung cancer morphology classification and similar tasks based on gene expression level evaluation.
Carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) cable has good mechanical properties and corrosion resistance. However, the anchorage of CFRP cable is a big issue due to the anisotropic property of CFRP material. In this article, a high-efficient bonding anchorage with novel configuration is developed for CFRP cables. The acoustic emission (AE) technique is employed to evaluate the performance of anchorage in the fatigue test and post-fatigue ultimate bearing capacity test. The obtained AE signals are analyzed by using a combination of unsupervised K-means clustering and supervised K-nearest neighbor classification (K-NN) for quantifying the performance of the anchorage and damage evolutions. An AE feature vector (including both frequency and energy characteristics of AE signal) for clustering analysis is proposed and the under-sampling approaches are employed to regress the influence of the imbalanced classes distribution in AE dataset for improving clustering quality. The results indicate that four classes exist in AE dataset, which correspond to the shear deformation of potting compound, matrix cracking, fiber-matrix debonding and fiber fracture in CFRP bars. The AE intensity released by the deformation of potting compound is very slight during the whole loading process and no obvious premature damage observed in CFRP bars aroused by anchorage effect at relative low stress level, indicating the anchorage configuration in this study is reliable.
