Negative Selection Algorithm for DNA Sequence Classification

  • According to revealing the DNA sequence of human and living things, it increases that a demand on a new computational processing method which utilizes DNA sequence information. In this paper we propose a classification algorithm based on negative selection of the immune system to classify DNA patterns. Negative selection is the process to determine an antigenic receptor that recognize antigens, nonself cells. The immune cells use this antigen receptor to judge whether a self or not. If one composes n group of antigenic receptor for n different patterns, they can classify into n patterns. In this paper we propose a pattern classification algorithm based on negative selection in nucleotide base level and amino acid level.

Grammaticality Judgement and Error Correction by Children with Developmental Language Impairments (경계선지능 언어발달장애아동과 일반아동의 문법성 판단 및 오류수정 - 조사를 중심으로 -)

  • In the present study, we investigated the grammaticality judgement skills of children with developmental language impairments. The participants included 20 children with language impairments of ages ranging from 7 to 9 years and of IQ's ranging from 71 to 84, and 40 normally developing children. Twenty normal children were matched with the language impaired children in their language ages and the other 20 normal children were matched with the language impaired children in their chronological ages. The children were asked to judge the grammatical correctness of 48 short sentences, half of which were ungrammatical sentences containing incorrect case-markers and the other half were grammatically correct sentences. Four types of case-markers including nominative "i/ga", accusative "ul/lul", locative "e," and instrumental "ro" were systematically changed to generate the ungrammatical sentences. The language impaired children performed worse than both groups of normally developing children in detecting the ungrammatical sentences and in correcting the case-markers of those sentences. In detecting the errors of ungrammatical sentences, the language impaired children exhibited variable performances across the different case-markers.

  • A two-dimensional numerical model to study the performance of anode-supported flat-tube solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) far the cross section of the cell in the flow direction of the fuel and air flows is developed. In this model a mass and charge balance, Maxwell-Stefan equation as well as the momentum equation by using, Darcy's law are applied in differential form. The finite element method using FEMLAB commercial software is used for meshing, discritization and solving the system of coupled differential equations. The current density distribution and fuel consumption as well as water production are analyzed. Experimental data is used to verify a predicted voltage-current density and power density versus current density to judge on the model accuracy.

  • In order to manage technology transfer properly, it is important to judge whether the technology transfer is successful or not, and to find out the reason of the conclusion. The study aims to find out the relationship between successfulness of technology transfer and reasons or basis of the conclusion. Empirical investigation was carried out for Korean small and medium size firm in machinery and material field with statistical analysis on questionnaire and intensive interview. Result of the analysis is identified and compared with the other. It is shown that Korean firms feel their technology transfer is successful when it meet functional objectives and to get enough knowledge to further utilization from external source. Realization of benefit do not affect much the successfulness of technology transfer even though it is final objectives of technology transfer.

An Estimation of Tool Failure by Means of AE Signal and Surface Roughess in Turning Machining (선삭가공에 있어서 AE 신호와 표면 거칠기에 의한 공구손상에 대한 평가)

  • In this study, using in-process tool failure detecting system by AE method in turning machining, we measured AE signal from the tool, and the surface roughness of workpiece and then compared it with tool wear. As a result, we found that tool failure can be predicted by means of surface roughness of the workpiece and it can be predicted more precisely by the arithmetical average roughness (Ra) than by the maximum height of irregularities (Rmax) of the workpiece. Also, we found that we could judge whether it was sudden failure or the wear by means of the shape of AE signal and the range distri- bution of power spectrum frequency when tool danage was happened.

  • In highschool probability education, this study analyzed conflicts between intuitive concept and formal definition which originates from the process of establishing the concept of statistical independence. In judging independence, completely different types of problems requiring their own approach was analyzed by dividing them into two types. By doing so, this study researched a way to view independence as an overall idea. That is purposed to suggest a solution to a conflicts between intuitive concept and formal definition and to help not to judge independence out of wrong intuition. This study also suggests that calculation process which leads to precise perception of sample space and event be provided when we prove independence by expressing events with assembly symbols.

  • Agricultural facilities can be designed by conceptual preliminary primary and detailed design stages. because each stage has a different objective, it must be applied to dissimilar design and analysis level. Engineers have to judge from evaluation that is estimated agricultural resources in the conceptual design stage. Methods of computer aided design are achieved to individual functions however it is inefficient to perform entire processes of design and hard to systematically accumulate results o design. Study on the integrated structural design system has been continued. but those system have adopted “closed architecture”which is known to inflexible method for developing applications. In this study the design platform is an environment that can support to integrated design system independently and an design platform is proposed by analyzing design processes using object oriented method. The concepts of software platform have resulted from several practical ideas, OOA/OOP and related some points. This paper aims at developing the software platform of a software environment to support the design phases of the agricultural facilities.

  • The purpose of this study was to test the validity of Olson Circumplex Model and Beavers Systems Model related to adolescent adjustment. The 830 subjects were selected from the second grade of middle and high schools and adolescents of Juvenile Judge in the city of Taegu. The survey instruments were FACESIII, SFIII, State-Trait Anxiety Inventory, Depression Scale, and Delinquency Scale. Factor Analysis, Cronbach's ${\alpha}$. MANOVA, Scheff'e test were conducted for the data analysis. The major findings of this study were as follows: 1) Family system classification method on Olson Circumplex Model was partially useful in evaluating anxiety, depression, and delinquency of adolescent. 2) Family system classification method on Beavers Systems Model was partially useful in evaluating anxiety and depression of adolescent.   • Shock-type vibrations are usually experienced in vehicles excited by impulsive forces. Fifteen subjects used magnitude estimation to judge the discomfort of vertical shock-type vibration generated on a rigid seat. The shocks had different frequencies and magnitudes and were produced from the response of a 1 degree-of-freedom model to a half-sine force input. The magnitudes of the shocks, expressed in terms of both peak-to-peak value and un-weighted vibration dose values, VDVs, were correlated with magnitude estimates of the discomfort. In this study, equivalent comfort contour of shock-type vibration were obtained. From the contour, it was investigated that shock-type vibration at frequency below 0.8 Hz and between 4.0 Hz and 10.0 Hz is highly sensitive to the discomfort than at other frequencies.

  • Competency and competency-based education are topics of great interest to educators and administrators at most stages of undergraduate and postgraduate medical training. A competency-based approach in medical setting has been valued as a more effective way to strengthen learners' performance compared to the traditional education program. This article aims to explore theoretical and practical possibilities and limitations of competency-based medical education. We approached the topic in 3 gradual steps: the comprehension of background of competency-based education, the conceptual understanding of competency in professional education, and the exploration of possibilities and limitations of competency-based medical education. The last step of analysis was performed in three dimensions: educational objectives, references to judge performance, and performance evaluation criteria. In conclusion, we suggest 4 factors which need to be considered to implement a competency-based medical education.
