This study reviewed the literature pertaining to the cause and effects of job stress. Many definitions of stress have been offered and the diversity of these definitions has been generated by medical scientists, psychologists, and behavioral scientists. Most approaches dealing with job stress have involved listing of various sources of job stress, moderators, and outcomes. This study is concerned with the selection of variables, the relationships between job stressors and outcomes, and the effects of moderators on these relationships investigated in job stress research. A review of job stress literature presents that various job stressors (e. g., task characteristics, role characteristics, organizational characteristics, career development, and relationships), moderators (e. g., locus of control, type A and B personality, social support, and demographics), and outcomes (e. g., perceived stress, job satisfaction, job commitment, organizational commitment, performance, turnover, and physiological symptoms) were used for a greater understanding of job stress.

This study explores the variables that predict the job satisfaction of clothing salespeople. A total of 270 questionnaires obtained from clothing salespeople were submitted for analysis. The results show that job stress was a negative influence whereas customer-orientation and self-efficacy were positive influences on the job satisfaction of clothing salespeople. The relationships were repeatedly investigated by the groups divided by personal and store characteristics. Job stress was not different by job experience, job position, and the price level of the products for sale; however, customer orientation, self-efficacy, and job satisfaction were different by those factors. In the case of more experienced salespeople with high positions, job stress would not be a predictor of job satisfaction. The study findings confirmed variables predicting job satisfaction, as well as revealed some personal and store characteristics that can affect the relationships of the variables.
Purpose. In this study, the empowerment and job characteristics of dental hygienists by hospital type were identified and the relationships between empowerment and job characteristics were examined. Methods. The subjects were 156 working dental hygienists. A structured self-administered questionnaire was used to investigate the empowerment and job characteristics of dental hygienists. For empowerment and Job Characteristics, the scale developed by Spreitzer and Hackman and Oldham was used. Results. The results of this study showed that the degree of formation of empowerment for dental hygienists was the highest in general/university hospitals. All elements of job characteristics were closely correlated with empowerment, and hospital type was correlated with the determination of empowerment. Job characteristics influenced empowerment. This result suggests that the inherent jobs of dental hygienists did not change much by hospital type, but empowerment changed because the organizational characteristics changed according to hospital size. Conclusions. Therefore, considering the importance of the jobs of dental hygienists, hospitals need to form an organizational atmosphere that guarantee autonomy and promote a diversity of jobs.

Objective: The Job Demand & Resources model suggests work characteristics are related to mental well-being and work engagement. Previous work describes the development of a combined construct 'engaged well-being at work' (EWB). To what extent changes in measures of this construct are responsive to changes in job demands and resources or associated with changes in job-related attitudes has not been established. Methods: Longitudinal employee-level data from three waves (German Linked Personnel Panel) were used. Logistic and linear fixed effects regression analyses explored longitudinal associations between changes in EWB for participants over a three-year period with changes in job demands and resources and job-related attitudes (job commitment, satisfaction, and turnover intentions). Results: While job resources were associated with increased odds for a change into a healthier and/or more engaged category of EWB, job demands reduced them. Job resources were more strongly related to higher EWB (ORrange = 1.22 - 1.61) than job demands (ORrange = 0.79 - 0.96). Especially psychological job demands showed negative associations with improved EWB (OR = 0.79). A change from the least desirable category 'disengaged strain' to any other category of EWB was associated with greater odds by up to 20.6 % for increased commitment and job satisfaction and lower odds for turnover intentions. Discussion: Improving work characteristics, especially job resources, could increase employees' EWB, emphasizing the importance of job characteristics for a healthy workplace. Because EWB seems to be associated with job attitudes, an improvement of this indicator would be relevant for employees and employers.
The purposes of this study were to determine the factors that influence job satisfaction for ICU nurses and to analyze group differences in job satisfaction based on the nurses' preference and perception of the work environment with an enhanced professional role. A total of 231 nurses who had been working in Intensive Care Units at least for 6 months at selected university hospitals participated in the study while head nurses or those with administrative positions were excluded. The study participants had an average of 33 months of clinical experience with an age range of 23 to 40 years. The data were analyzed by utilizing SPSSWIN and the results are as follows. 1) Hierarchical multiple regression analysis showed that work characteristics defined by Job characteristics theory and nurses' preference / perception of ideal work environment together explained 33% of variance in job satisfaction. Skill variety, task identity and autonomy as well as individual perception of work environment were significant variables for explaining job satisfaction. Job satisfaction was not significantly related to age, marital status, education, and clinical experience. 2) The groups classified by nurses' preference and perception of work environment were significantly different in their job satisfaction. Nurses with high preference and high perception showed significantly higher general and specific job satisfaction than other nurses. The nurses who showed high preference but perceived their work environment as not reflecting ideal job characteristics reported the lowest job satisfaction among the groups. In conclusion, the role of individual preference and perception of the work environment in explaining the relationship between the redesign of work environment and job satisfaction was supported by the study, The preferences of nurses to the innovative work characteristics should be considered in the process of enhancing job characteristics to lead job satisfaction and low turnover and ultimately to improve quality of care.
The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of on-site training environments and goals on learning outcomes of trainees. For this purpose, the study analyzed survey data collected from 752 students who participated in KOREATECH's Industry Professional Practice (IPP) on-site training program from 2017 to 2018. The following summarizes some important findings from the study results: First, on examining whether the effect of job characteristics on the academic competencies differs according to the characteristics of the group, it was found that the factors that affect the whole group were job content, coaching, and welfare benefits, but the effect of job scope was statistically significant. Second, on examining whether the effect of job characteristics on job competencies differs according to the characteristics of the group, it was found that the factors that affect the whole group were job content, coaching, and job scope, but the effect of welfare was statistically significant. Analyzing by training goals, it was found that the major influencers were job content in the Recruitment-intended group; and job content, coaching and job scope in the Training-intended group. Based on the results, the implications of the study and follow-up studies are suggested.

It focused on personal characteristics including personal and job characteristics. The subjects in this study were 784 visiting supervisors for multicultural families in charge of childcare services in 140 multicultural family centers located across Korea. The job satisfaction of these visiting supervisors was measured using a self-administered questionnaire, and the collected data were analyzed using a frequency analysis, analysis of variance, and post hoc tests. The findings of this study were as follows: first, these visiting supervisors showed a relatively high level of job satisfaction. However, the job satisfaction subscales of treatment and salary were relatively low. Second, the results revealed significant differences in effects of the variables related to the personal characteristics of the visiting supervisors, such as their age, education level, and their major in college, on their total job satisfaction and subscales (job performance, treatment and salary, work ethic and aptitude). Finally, the results revealed significant differences in the effects of the variables related to the job characteristics of the visiting supervisors, such as their responsibilities, career, number of children to handle, and age of children to handle, on the total job satisfaction and subscales (treatment and salary, relationship with caregivers).
