Finite Element Simulation of a Hot Aluminum Roll Forging Process and its Experimental Verification (열간 알루미늄 롤단조 공정의 유한요소해석과 실험적 검증)

  • In this paper, an aluminum ring forging process of manufacturing an optimized perform for a hot forging process is simulated using AFDEX 3D, a general-purpose metal forming simulator based on rigid-thermoviscoplastic finite element method. Non-isothermal analysis is carried out and the predictions are compared with the experiments in terms of dimensional accuracy. It was shown that the predictions are in good agreement with the experiments.

  • The effect of process parameters on springback of AZ31B magnesium alloy sheet was investigated by performing 2D draw bending test at the elevated temperatures. And also the springback characteristics were studied different blank holding forces between 30 to 250 kgf. Springback was considerably reduced at higher temperatures than $200^{\circ}C$. The blank holding force in the range used, however, had little influence on springback in isothermal tests. For a given temperature, springback decreased with increasing blank holding force in non-isothermal tests.

  • This study describes a method which can attenuate reaction force effectively for an air spring system composed of an air spring and auxiliary chamber. For the analysis, the nonlinear governing equation of the air spring system is derived. For a performance improvement of the system, change of the heat transfer effect and the mass flow rates is included in the analysis of the air spring system. The simulation study is presented to show the reaction force is changed by variations in heat transfer characteristics and the air spring system of isothermal process has the best performance. As a result, to improve attenuation characteristics of reaction force, a process in the air spring system should be maintained near isothermal process.

  • The effects of phosphorus and boron additions and isothermal holding time on the residual magnesium and sulfur content, and on the resultant graphite structure of cast irons were investigated. The effective recovery ratio of magnesium showed that adding phosphorus to the melt retarded the fading rate of magnesium but adding boron accelerated it. However, the residual sulfur content was found to be decreased with isothermal holding time at the begining, and then to be increased again with holding time by resulfurization. The Mg-Equivalent for producing compacted vermicular graphite structure was found to be increased with the addition of phosphorus, whereas to be decreased with the addition of boron.

  • In this study, a tracer gas technique was used to measure ventilation effectiveness in a thermal environmental chamber simulating an under-floor air conditioning system. A tracer gas of $SF_6$ was injected in a supply duct using step-up and step-down methods. Local mean ages and room mean ages were calculated from the measured concentrations under isothermal and cooling conditions with and without diffusers. Ventilation effectiveness is found to be higher in cooling ventilation operations than in isothermal operations. Results also show that ventilation effectiveness is not significantly affected by a diffuser.

  • Convective heat transfer in a two-dimensional horizontal and vertical channel with isothermal rectangular beams attached to one adiabatic wall is investigated from the numerical solution of Navier-Stokes and energy equations. The solutions have been obtained for dimensionless beam spacings, S/L=1~4, aspect ratios of beam, H/B=0.25~4, Reynolds numbers, Re=50~1000 and Grashof numbers, $Gr=0{\sim}5{\times}10^4$. The total mean Nusselt number, Nu_T for horizontal and vertical channels shows same value at Gr=0. As Gr increases, Nu_T for horizontal channel increases, but Nu_T for vertical channel shows similar value at S/L=2, H/B=0.25, Re=100. The total mean Nusselt number for horizontal channel is higher than that for vertical channel. As H/B increases, $Nu_T$ for both channel decrease at $Gr=10^4$, Re=100.

  • Calcia stabilized zirconia polycrystal (Ca-TZP) powders synthesized by hydrothermal treatment was sintered at a temperature range of $1200^{\circ}C~1400^{\circ}C$ and investigated the properties of sintered body and the behaviors of isothermal phase transformation. The sintered bodies of Ca-TZP were shown the density of about 97% and the average mean tetragonal grain size of about $0.1~0.25{\mu}m$. Also, Ca-TZP specimen was more stable during aging at $250^{\circ}C$ than that of Y-TZP ceramics.

  • Granulated Y-TZP powders were coated by using Sol-Gel method and the coating effect of Al2O3 on the isothermal phase transformation in Al2O3 coated Y-TZP powders was investigated. During aging, tetragonal phase in Y-TZP powder were isothermally transformed to monoclinic, but the tetragonal phase in Al2O3 coated Y-TZP powders was continuously retained in spite of long aging. It can be considered that the improvement of thermal stability of tetragonal phase in Al2O3 coated Y-TZP powders may be due to the increase of constraint effect near tetragonal phase, and the suppression of surface transformation by obstructing the reaction between the surface of Y-TZP and H2O.

  • Thermal properties of a series of Co $\beta$-diketonates have been systematically investigated and it is found that tris(3,5-heptanedionato) cobalt(III) ($Co(hd)_3$) with the lowest melting point among them can be a better precursor than tris(2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-3,5-heptanedionato cobalt(III) ($Co(tmhd)_3$), one of the most popular precursors to date, under suitable conditions. Isothermal TGA study shows that $Co(hd)_3$ would work better at higher temperature, while $Co(dmhd)_3$ would be a better precursor at lower temperature.

  • 본 연구에서는 하향유동영역에서 수직면으로부터 경사각이 60˚ 이하인 경사 등온면이 저온의 물속에 잠겨 있을때 일어나는 다중정상상태 영역을 밝혀내고, 이 영 역에서 경사각이 열전달, 온도분포, 속도분포, 부력분포 및 누셀트 수에 미치는 영향 을 구명하였다. 또 해석방법은 이제까지 발표된 연구결과와 비교검토하기 위하여 기 존 논문에서와 같이 상이해석을 사용하였다.
