Several bacterial species have been reported to be surviving after the ionizing radiation treatment due to the presence of sophisticated enzymes systems and some endospores producing bacterial strains can also resist, due to the presence of thick spore coat. In this study, we report the complete genome sequence of a bacterium Paenibacillus swuensis $DY6^T$, isolated from an irradiated soil sample. The genome comprised of 5,012,599 bp with the G+C content of 49.93%, the genome included 4,463 protein coding genes and 133 RNA genes.
Azotobacter is isolated from soil and its purified species is identified as A. chroococcum. The survival rate of Azotobacter irradiated with UV light is measured, and the reproductive rates of the survivals are calculated. In general, not only the survival rate, but also the length of the generation time of the survival progeny is inversely proportional to the irradiated dose of UV light. The reproduvtive rate of Azotobacter is increased with the exogeneous treatment of nucleic acid derivatives.
The temperature distributions at various soil depths were predicted by heat transfer model during and after infrared irradiation on sand loam or loam soil. At each soil depth, predicted and measured temperature distributions were compared with using the mean relative percentage deviation and standard error. The mean relative percentage deviation was less than 10% between predicted and measured temperature distributions at each soil depth. Thus, it was concluded that the temperature distribution at each soil depth could be predicted satisfactorily by heat transfer model. Also, it is expected that these predicted temperature distributions can be used as basic information for determining the working speed of weeder and the size when the real weeder is constructed.

Irradiation can be utilized to inhibit sprouting of onions and garlic. Thermoluminescence(TL) is a potential method to detect post-irradiation of onions and garlic because they are irradiated with soil or dusts on them, from which minerals can be isolated for TL analysis. This study was to determine whether TL can be applied for the detection of post-irradiation of onions and garlic. Onions and garlic produced in Korea were irradiated in the range of 0.01~0.6kGy. Minerals isolated from the samples using sodium polytrungstate solution were used for TL analysis. The onions and garlic irradiated at 0.15kGy or higher could be detected with little errors. Minimum dose for the 2nd glow could be applied since the dose for the 2nd glow did not affect the results. The TL intensities of the temperature ranges of 229~295$^{\circ}C$ and 229~361$^{\circ}C$ and the maximum intensity provided more accurate information for the determination of the post-irradiation of onions and garlic.
This study was conducted to develop a nondestructive grouping system for soil organic matter using visible (VIS) and near infrared (NIR) spectroscopic method. The artificial light was irradiated on the cut soil surface at 15 to 20 cm depths to reduce the errors of light at open field. The reflectance energy from the cut soil surface was measured to group the soil organic matter using VIS/NIR light sensor with narrow band pass filter. From reflectance spectra of soil samples, the sensitive wavelengths for measuring the soil organic matter were selected and compared to previous research results. The grouping system for soil organic matter consisted of light sensor with band pass filter measuring the reflectance energy of the cut soil surface, global positing system (GPS), analog-to-digital (AD) converter, computer and operating software. The regression models to predict the soil organic matter were developed and evaluated. From field test, the accuracies of the developed light sensor system were 81.3% for five-stage grouping of the soil organic matters and 91.0% for three-stages grouping of the soil organic matters, respectively. It could be possible to support the decision making for variable rate applications with the developed grouping system for soil organic matter in precision agriculture.
This study was to obtain basic information needed to develop the effective weed control method for the production of less polluted agricultural products by inducing viability loss of weed seeds in soil with infrared irradiation. Ceramic plates were heated by LPG with the aid of forced air and the infrared produced from plates was used as the heat source for heating soil. The soil heated in this study was sandy loam with four levels of moisture contents (0.5, 5.1, 9.1, 15.0% wb). The temperature distribution was measured at various soil depths when soil was irradiated with infrared for different irradiation time (30, 60, 90 sec). The soil depths with duration time of minimum 3 minutes over $80^circ C$, temperature inducing viability loss of weed seeds, were investigated. When the moisture content of soil was 0.5% and 5.1% wb, the soil depths which can induce viability loss of weed seeds was greatly increased with increasing irradiation time. When 30 seconds of irradiation time was applied on soil with moisture content of 9.1% or 15.0% wb, any depths of soil tested in this study was not reached to the temperature of 8$0^{\circ}C$. Generally, the soil depth being needed for viability loss of weed seeds was decreased with increasing moisture content of soil.

The photocatalytic degradation of Endocrine Discruptors, dibuthyl phthalate(DBP) has been investigated over TiO$_2$ photocatalysts irradiated with a ultraviolet (UV) light. The effect of operational parameters, i.e., reaction time, light intensity, pH and additive on the degradation rate of aqueous solution of Endocrine Discruptors has been examined. Results show that the employment of efficient photocatalysts and the selection of optimal operational parameters may lead to degradation of Endocrine Discruptors solutions.

Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS) which a plasma is irradiated at a specific wavelength depending on the material when a high-energy laser is irradiated, and a Raman spectroscopy which measures rotation and vibration in molecules as light-scattering phenomenon occurs, are attracting attention as a space exploration technology because of the advantages of high accuracy and real-time analysis, and the ability to perform long-range detection. In this study, the tendency of the laser spectrum according to the change of the soil component was analyzed by laser spectroscopy and the two - dimensional chemical distribution was conducted based on the trend of laser spectrum. We have also established the environment of Mars (4-7 torr) and lunar atmosphere (<1 torr) in experimental setup, to prove that it is possible to measure by difference of soil chemical composition using LIBS and Raman spectroscopy even in artificial space environment.
Soil microorganisms producing immunomoduators that can restore ultraviolet B (UVB) radiation-induced suppression of the immune response were screened in vitro. Exposure of freshly isolated murine epidermal cells (EC) to $180{\;}J/m^{2}$ of UVB radiation resulted in approximately 90% impairtnent of accessory cell function, as measured by their ability to support anti-CD3 monoclonal antibody-induced T-cell mitogenesis. When the culture supenmtants of 150 actinomycete strains were exanuned for their capacity to prevent or repair the UVB-induced impairment of accessory cell function, 4 of them were identified to contain immunomodulators that can restore the decreased accessory cell finiction. The soil isolate that showed the most effective restorative activity, G40025. was selected and fturther characters Addition of 10.mu.l of the culture supernatant of G40025 grown in G-media to cultures of UVB-irradiated EC right after UVB-irradiation restored the decreased accessory cell function by 58%. The immunomodtdator produced by G40025 appeared to be stable at 100.deg. C for 10 min. Taxonomical studies by cultural, morphological, and physiological characterization showed that the soil isolate, G40025, belongs to the genus Streptomyces.
