Recently produced concrete has a tendency to overcome environmental defects. Porous and planting Eco-concrete requires the neutralization process and enough void in concrete to contain water, to pass air freely, and provides necessary nutrients to vegetation roots. The biological environment in concrete is not suitable for planting because the concrete possesses strong alkali constituent of pH 11-13. This study evaluated the strength and serviceability of concrete as well as the chemical characteristics of concrete mixed by low-grade iron ore left in the abandoned mine and treated by Ammonium monohydrogen phosphate, $(NH_4)_2HPO_4$. Test variables include two kinds of coarse aggregates such as crushed stones and low-grade iron ore, the duration time and the period for neutralization treatment by Ammonium monohydrogen phosphate, $(NH_4)_2HPO_4$, and the proportion ratio of cement, blast furnace slag and silica fume.
The most widely excavated iron artifacts used as weapons or farm tools from central southern regions of Korea were subjects of non-metallic inclusion analysis through metallographic examination, microhardness measurement, and scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. Through metallographic interpretation and study of the analyzed results, the steel manufacturing and iron smelting using heat processing in the iron artifacts excavated from the central southern region of the ancient Korean peninsula was studied, and the analysis of the non-metallic inclusions mixed within the metallic structures was interpreted as the ternary phase diagram of the oxide to infer the type of iron ores for the iron products and the temperature of the furnace used to smelt them. Most of the ancient forged iron artifacts showed $Al_2O_3/SiO_2$ with high $SiO_2$ contents and relatively low $Al_2O_3$ contents for iron ore, indicating t hat for $Al_2O_3$ below 5%, it is presumed that magnetic iron ores were reduced to bloom iron (sponge iron) with direct-reduction process for production. The temperature for extraction of wustite for $Al_2O_3$ below 1% was found to be $1,020{\sim}1,050^{\circ}C$. Considering the oxide ternary constitutional diagram of glassy inclusions, the steel-manufacturing temperature was presumed to have been near $1,150{\sim}1,280^{\circ}C$ in most cases, and minimum melting temperature of casting iron part excavated in Daeseong-ri. Gyeonggi was near $1,400^{\circ}C$, and it is thought that hypoeutectic cast iron of about 2.3% carbon was casted and fragility of cast iron was improved by decarburizing in solid state.
It is well known that the graphite flakes become spherulite, when a suitable amount of nodulizing element, such as cerium or magnesium, is added to the cast iron. The change of graphite from flake to nodular shape improves not only the tensile strength but the ductility as well. However, the mechanism of spheroidization of graphite in cast iron has not yet been clearly understood, and various theories proposed by a number of investigators were such that it may be due to the special nucleation effect, prevention of flake formation by the adsorption of magnesium vapour on the graphite surface or file surface free energy difference between plain graphite and magnesium-adsorbed graphite. Regardless of the speculations of spheroidizing mechanism of the graphite in the cast iron, the final phenomenon comes to the conclusion that it may be due to the lack of wettability between graphite and iron matrix. In order to collaborate this fact through an experimental method, the authors have constructed a vacuum arc furnace for the wettability measurement as its first step. Our study and experiments were then directed to the comparison of the wettability between iron and graphite on the two cases (namely, the one where magnesium was preliminarily coated on the graphite surface and the other not coated), by means of contact angle measurements. The result was such that a significant difference of the contact angles has been shown between the above two cases. indicating the spheroidization of graphite which might have resulted from the lack of wettability between magnesium-adsorbed graphite and iron matrix.
We characterized the smelting process and smelting furnace through scanning electron microscopy-energy dispersive spectroscopy, wavelength dispersive X-ray fluorescence, X-ray diffraction, and raman micro-spectroscopy with 13 relics including slags and furnace walls excavated from square-shaped building sites and pits of the Three Kingdoms site at the Ungyo site section I. Our results revealed that the principal components were FeO and SiO2; and CuO, PbO, and ZnO were contained in small quantities. Furthermore, fayalite, magnetite, augite, copper, and cuprite were found. High contents of FeO or SiO2 components seem to have been added to form fayalite to remove gangue in the smelting process. The relatively low content of S detected in the copper prills suggests that roasting was performed well. Cristobalite and mullite, which are minerals that indicate high-temperature found in the furnace wall, show that the smelting temperature was higher than 1,250℃. The findings of this study show a high possibility that the Wanju Ungyo site is smelting remains of copper ores, which are nonferrous metals, rather than iron. Various smelting byproducts excavated in this area in the future will help us better understand the copper smelting process that may have been performed since ancient times.

The study carried out the experiment with presenting as the fundamental data for developing non-cement by using red mud generated in blast furnace slag and bauxite generated in the process of manufacturing the pig iron process of manufacturing Al(OH)3/Al2O from as the binding material using the accelerator of NaOH. After fixing the thing and the NaOH adding the blast furnace slag and NaOH 10, 20, 30 (%) with 10, 20, 30 (%) substituted the red mud in the blast furnace slag and the experimental method carried out the experiment. And it measured the flexural strength and compressive strength and took a photograph EDS analysis and SEM. Consequently, the compressive strength was improved as the addition rate of the NaOH was high and the compressive strength according to the replacement ratio of the red mud was degraded. This is determined that film of the blast furnace slag is destroyed and it makes the hydration reaction condition and the intensity is revealed.
This work provides an overview of the steel production process, pretreatment and tramp elements of scraps and recycling technology of dust generated from steelmaking process. Steel is the most common metal used by mankind, with the world production of crude steel in 2018 exceeding 1.8 billion tonnes. Recycling of ferrous scraps reduces CO2 emissions by about 42 % and saves about 60 % of energy, compared to production steel from iron ore. Steel scraps are usually recycled to both an electric arc furnace (EAF), scrap-based steelmaking and the basic oxygen furnace (BOF), in ore-based steelmaking. EAF steelmaking, which uses iron scrap as a main raw material, is changing to an energy-saving type with a device for preheating scrap. Dust generated from the steelmaking process is recycled in various ways in the steel mill to recover iron and zinc.
Electric arc furnace steelmaking dust has various physicochemical properties as volatile components generated in the melting process of steel scraps in an electric arc furnace, which is captured in oxide form as fine powder by reacting with oxygen in the air. In order to efficiently recycle these electric arc furnace dust, a kinetic basic experiment and a pilot production test were carried out in parallel. As a result, it was found that the electric arc furnace dust contain a large amount of Cl and alkali components, thus it was expected that the compounds have a great adverse effect on the actual operation for the recycling. It was confirmed that the volatilization behavior was progressing actively at $1100^{\circ}C$ and the electric arc furnace dust was melted at $1250^{\circ}C$. These results are the same as a result of pilot test for the formation behavior of zinc oxide and reduced iron. These results should be useful as basic data for designing the recycling plant of the electric arc furnace dust and establishing the operating conditions.

Thermo-fluid characteristics in coke oven, sintering machine and blast furnace in iron-making facility are key processes related to the quality and productivity of the pig iron. Solid material in the processes usually forms a bed in a gas flow. For simulation of the processes by mathematical model, the solid beds are idealized to be a continuum and a reacting solid flow in the gas flow. Governing equations in the form of partial differential equations for the solid material can be constructed based on this assumption. Iron ore sintering bed is simulated and limited amount of parametric study have been performed. The results have a good agreement with the experimental results or physical phenomena, which shows the validity and applicability of the model.
Investigation into iron manufacture relics has been active since 1970s, especially accelerated in 1990s across the country. Consideration of the importance of production site relics has lately attracted attention to iron manufacture relics. Methodological studies of the investigation into iron manufacture relics, however, were less made compared with those of the investigation into tomb, dwelling, or swampy place relics. It is because the process of iron manufacture is too complicated to understand and also requires professional knowledge of metal engineering. With the recognition of these problems this research is to form an opinion about how to excavate, to rearrange and classify, and to examine iron manufacture relics, based upon the understanding of the nature of iron, iron production process, and metal engineering features of related relics like slag, iron lumps and so on. This research classifies iron manufacture relics into seven types according to the production process; mining, smelting, refining, tempering, melting, steelmaking, and the others. Then it arranges methods to survey in each stage of field study, trial digging, and excavation. It also explains how to classify and examine excavated relics, what field of natural science to be used to know the features of relics, and what efforts have been made to reconstruct a furnace and what their problems were, making the best use of examples, drawings, and photos. It comes to the conclusion, in spite of the lack of in-depth discussion on application and development of various investigation methods, that iron manufacture relics can be classified according to the production process, that natural sciences should be applied to get comprehensive understanding of relics as well as archeological knowledge, and that efforts to reconstruct a furnace should be continued from the aspect of experimental archeology.

The properties of dust collected from electric arc furnace of ferro manganese production units was investigated, and also the metallic manganese was recovered from the dust by aluminothermy process. The ferromanganese dust collected from electric arc furnace contained about 15% of manganese oxide ($Mn_3O_4$) and 9% of carbon as the contaminant, and have a 5um of 50% median diameter and irregular particle shape. The carbon contaminant in the dust could be reduced until about 0.1~0.5% level by roasting in the air at a temperature of 600~900C for 60minutes. The recovery of manganese could not be carried out using only ferromanganese dust from electric arc furnace by aluminothermy process, but the ferromanganese which contained manganese of about 92% and iron of about 5% could be obtained from the mixture of ferromanganese dusts from electric arc furnace and converter. The best mixing condition of dust fixed at electric arc furnace dust / converter dust ratio of 1:9 and 2:8, and the mixing rato of 3:7 or more could not separated the metal and slag from the reactant after aluminothermy reaction.
