Recently, multilevel H-bridge inverters have become more popular in medium to high power ac drive applications. One of significant advantages of them is low harmonic contents in their input line currents thanks to the transformer with multiple phase-shifted secondary windings. This paper attempts to provide basic guidelines for the design of the phase shifting transformer windings and theoretical analysis of input line current harmonics.

This paper presents Z-source inverters, their controls,, and their systems for motor drives. System configurations, analysis, controls, and unique features of the new Z-source motor drive systems will be summarized and given. Simulation and experimental results demonstrate advantageous features over the traditional voltage- and current-source inverter systems.

This paper presents an analysis of power losses in three-level T-Type Inverters. The switching loss in different switching frequencies and the conduction loss at different modulation indices and power factors are investigated. Finally, it is shown that the results of analysis coincide with those which resulted from CASPOC software simulation.

In general, aluminum electrolytic capacitors are used in the DC link of PWM inverters fur ac motor drives. The capacitor usually has the shortest lifetime in the system and then determines the lifetime of the inverter system. In this paper, a method of capacitor lifetime estimation is proposed by using an ESR(equivalent series resistance) model and a heat transfer model of capacitor, from which internal operating temperature is estimated. Then, the lifetime is predicted by Arrhenius's equation. A practical example is presented.

This paper gives and analytical expression of the average and rms currents of switching devices in volt-age-fed PWM inverters. It is shown that the device currents are represented by a function of the power factor of the load and the normalized output voltage of the inverter. The validity of the derived formulas is confirmed with simulation and experiment, showing that the modulation method has a minor effect on the characteristics of the device current.

In the current source inverters (CSI), which are widely used recently in many applications, in order to reduce the harmonic contents in the output line current, twelve-step waveform is synthesized usually by a phase-shifted addition of the output currents of two single CSI's. In this paper a new method of synthesis of the 12-step current waveform is suggested which employes a main and a new auxiliary inverters having lower capacity, and thus is economically advantageous over the conventional scheme. DC-side commutation and energy rebond circuit as described in Part I are also employed in this proposed twelve-step CIS for effective commutation and high reliability. Experimental results are also given in oscillgrams.

This paper presents a circuit design far clamping the overvoltages across the GTOs in three-level GTO inverters. The proposed circuit has two roles as follows; one is to minimize the power dissipation in each GTO. It can be achieved by clamping the overvoltage to half that of the DC-link voltage as exactly as possible. The other is to get blocking voltage balancing between the inner GTOs and the outer GTOs.

In this paper, a compensation scheme for the effect of dc-link ripple voltages on output voltage of two-leg and three-phase PWM inverters is proposed, without which compensation scheme the three-phase output voltage and current are much distorted. The proposed scheme has been verified by experimental results.

In this paper, we investigate the optical and structural properties of linear and circular polarization-discriminatory inverters. Circular polarization-discriminatory handedness inverter is realized as a combination of half-wave plate and Bragg reflector and that of linear polarization in verter is realized as a combination of quarter-wave plate, Bragg reflector and quarter-wave plate.

This paper presents the study of standard family of power inverters, SEMIKUBE. One of key points of SEMIKUBE is that it's a combination of cubes, each of which achieves a given function, as specified. To drive this inverters, SEMIKRON's advanced technologies was applied. We proved the performance by various experiments.
