  • As various metaverse platforms utilize different tools and design methods for virtual clothing, the lack of standardization creates challenges for interoperability across platforms. This study aimed to investigate virtual clothing cases provided by different metaverse platforms, analyze their design elements and methods, and propose a standardized design process to enhance interoperability. Regarding search methods, design elements of virtual clothing-item, shape, color, material, pattern, and detail-were compared across platforms first. A review of design tool interfaces and functionalities was then conducted with six fashion experts, examining how design tools and their technical differences impacted user experience and design complexity. This study revealed that metaverse platforms showed distinct characteristics in how they expressed virtual clothing design elements. Additionally, a common virtual clothing design framework was proposed, systematically applying techniques of selection, movement, and adjustment as core stages in the process. Findings of this study are expected to contribute to enhancing flexibility and consistency in the virtual clothing design process across metaverse platforms, ultimately promoting user interaction and creativity.

  • In this paper, we investigate cross-platform interoperability for natural language processing (NLP) and, in particular, annotation of textual resources, with an eye toward identifying the design elements of annotation models and processes that are particularly problematic for, or amenable to, enabling seamless communication across different platforms. The study is conducted in the context of a specific annotation methodology, namely machine-assisted interactive annotation (also known as human-in-the-loop annotation). This methodology requires the ability to freely combine resources from different document repositories, access a wide array of NLP tools that automatically annotate corpora for various linguistic phenomena, and use a sophisticated annotation editor that enables interactive manual annotation coupled with on-the-fly machine learning. We consider three independently developed platforms, each of which utilizes a different model for representing annotations over text, and each of which performs a different role in the process.

  • IoT (Internet of Things) systems are based on heterogeneous hardware systems of different types of devices interconnected each other, ranging from miniaturized and low-power wireless sensor node to cloud servers. These IoT systems composed of heterogeneous hardware utilize data sets collected from a particular set of sensors or control designated actuators when needed using open APIs created through abstraction of devices' resources associated to service applications. However, previously existing IoT services have been usually developed based on vertical platforms, whose sharing and exchange of data is limited within each industry domain, for example, healthcare. Such problem is called 'data silo', and considered one of crucial issues to be solved for the success of establishing IoT ecosystems. Also, IoT services may need to dynamically organize their services according to the change of status of connected devices due to their mobility and dynamic network connectivity. We propose a way of dynamically composing IoT services under the concept of WoT (Web of Things) where heterogeneous devices across different industries are fully integrated into the Web. Our approach allows developers to create IoT services or mash them up in an efficient way using Web objects registered into multiple standardized horizontal IoT platforms where their resources are discoverable and accessible. A Web-based service composition tool is developed to evaluate the practical feasibility of our approach under real-world service development.

  • Recently, with the widespread use of the Internet of Things (IoT), the service structure has been studied to interact with various service domains. A common way to interact with other service domains is to develop the APIs needed to interact on the platform. However, to use a common method, we consider many costs and resources as APIs can increase while adding connections from other service domains. To address this issue, we propose the design and implementation of a dynamic API platform. The proposed platform can dynamically create APIs when requesting service applications, depending on the target service domain. To demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed platform, we develop a COVID-19 weekly infection status, regional infection status, and vaccination status service using dynamic APIs from the Public Data Portal using the proposed dynamic API platform and Node-RED.
