Motion and Sloshing Analysis for New Concept of Offshore Storage Unit

  • A New concept for the LNG-FPSO ship, with moonpool and bilge step in bottom, is proposed. This concept is investigated with regard to motion reduction and sloshing phenomena of the cargo and operation tanks. The principal dimensions of the ship are $L\timesb B\times D\times t(design)=270.0\times51.0\times32.32\times13.7(m)$, with a total cargo capacity of 161KT; a 98% loading condition is considered for this study. The moonpools and rectangular step at the bilge have been designed for the purpose of decreasing the motion within the tank. For the motion analysis, linearized three-dimensional diffraction theory, with the simplified boundary condition was used. The six-degree of freedom coupled motion responses were calculated for the LNG-FPSO ship. Viscous effects on the roll motion responses of a vessel were taken into account in this calculation program, using an empirical formula suggested by Himeno(1981). The case study for the moonpool size has been conducted using theoretical estimation and the experimental method. For the optimization of the moonpool size and effect of the bilge step, 9 cases of its size, both with and without bilge step, were involved in the study. no motion responses, especially roll motion, for the designed LNG-FPSO ships are much lower than those of other drill ships and shuttle tankers. The limit criterions are satisfied. To check the cargo tank and operation tank sizes, we performed a sloshing analysis in the irregular waves which focuses on the pressure distribution on the tank wall and the time history of pressure and free surface for No.2 and 5 tanks of LNG-FPSO with chamfers. Finally, optimum tank sire was estimated.

  • 최근 국제해사기구에서 추진하고 있는 e-navigation은 선박의 안전운항을 위한 다양한 서비스를 지향하고 있다. 이에 따라, 해양 분야에 다양한 소프트웨어 개발이 기대되고 있으며, 동시에 그 품질의 중요성이 높아지고 있다. 이 논문에서는 소프트웨어의 품질 향상의 실험을 위해, 기존 AIS중개서버 프로그램에 소프트웨어 리팩토링(refactoring) 기법을 적용하였으며, 그 효과를 분석하였다. 리팩토링은 소프트웨어를 소스 코드 수준에서 구조의 복잡성을 줄여서, 이해하기 쉽고 기능 변경이 용이한 상태로 변경하는 기법이다. 이를 통해, 겉으로 보이는 동작의 변화는 없이 내부구조가 변경된다. 리팩토링 적용 효과 분석을 위해서, IEC/ISO 9126 소프트웨어 품질표준의 유지보수성과 관련된 기존 메트릭의 산술적 측정기법을 도입했다.

소형어선용 팽창식 구명뗏목 성능기준 개발에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Development of Inflatable Life Raft Performance Criteria for Small Fishing Vessels)

  • 본 연구에서는 해상에서의 저체온증 사망위험을 감소시키기 위해, 배의 길이 20미터 미만의 우리나라 소형어선에 비치하기 적합한 구명뗏목의 성능기준을 제안했다. 우리나라에는 소형어선용 구명뗏목이 사용되고 있지 않으며 관련 성능기준도 없다. 국내외 및 국제표준의 성능기준을 비교하고, 외국산 구명뗏목 및 본 연구로 개발된 가방형 시제품(2 4인승)의 성능 평가결과를 분석했다. 그 결과, 근해어선의 구명뗏목에는 ISO 9650-1 기준을 적용하고, 연안어선의 구명뗏목에는 ISO 9650-2보다 기준을 낮추어 적용하는 것이 적절할 것으로 판단된다.

3D Digital Design 기법을 이용한 BWTS 설치 설계 연구 (A Study on Retrofitting BWTS using 3D Digital Design)

  • Over the past few years, as maritime trade and traffic were highly expanding, problem of invasive species via ballast water have been raised. In 1988, Canada and Australia had firstly experience that unexpected and hazardous species were observed on their own sea, they have issued the problem to MEPC under the IMO. At the end of many years of discussion, on the diplomatic conference in 13 Feb. 2004, "International Convention for the Control and Management of Ballast Water and Sediments of the Ship" was adopted. Requirements for entering into force of this Convention is that 30 countries ratify and world merchant marine fleet is more than 35% and BWM Convention will be effected after 12months from date satisfying conditions. With Finland ratifying the BWM Convention on 8 Sep. 2016, the fleet amounted to 35.1441% and ratification country became 52 countries. Therefore, after 12month, BWM Convention will be formally effected on 8 Sep. 2017. Ballast Water Treatment System is to be fitted in new ships as well as existing ships. Thus, there are concerns of ship owners to be suitably installed a variety typed BWTS in many kinds of vessels. As approaching for resolving these problems, engineering analysis was carried out research studies and detailed design to analyze to optimal installation space for retrofitting a BWTS using 3D Scanning method, targeting representative DWT 180K Bulk carrier of dry cargo vessels charged more 40% on worldwide vessel and mainly two type BWTS as electrolysis treatment type and ultra violet treatment type. Optimal design of 3D Scanning technology was applied to analyze four step process and the overall conclusion was described in this paper.

PILOT INJECTION OF DME FOR IGNITION OF NATURAL GAS AT DUAL FUEL ENGINE-LIKE CONDITIONS

  • The ignition delay of a dual fuel system has been numerically investigated by adopting a constant volume chamber as a model problem simulating diesel engine relevant conditions. A detailed chemical kinetic mechanism, consisting of 28 species and 135 elementary reactions, of dimethyl ether (DME) with methane ($CH_{4}$) sub-mechanism has been used in conjunction with the multi-dimensional reactive flow KIVA-3V code to simulate the autoignition process. The start of ignition was defined as the moment when the maximum temperature in the combustion vessel reached to 1900 K with which a best agreement with existing experiment was achieved. Ignition delays of liquid DME injected into air at various high pressures and temperatures compared well with the existing experimental results in a combustion bomb. When a small quantity of liquid DME was injected into premixtures of $CH_{4}$/air, the ignition delay times of the dual fuel system are longer than that observed with DME only, especially at higher initial temperatures. The variation in the ignition delay between DME only and dual fuel case tend to be constant for lower initial temperatures. It was also found that the predicted values of the ignition delay in dual fuel operation are dependent on the concentration of the gaseous $CH_{4}$ in the chamber charge and less dependent on the injected mass of DME. Temperature and equivalence ratio contours of the combustion process showed that the ignition commonly starts in the boundary at which near stoichiometric mixtures could exists. Parametric studies are also conducted to show the effect of additive such as hydrogen peroxide in the ignition delay. Apart from accurate predictions of ignition delay, the coupling between multi-dimensional flow and multi-step chemistry is essential to reveal detailed features of the ignition process.

Methylmercury Exposure and Health Effects

  • Methylmercury is a hazardous substance that is of interest with regard to environmental health, as inorganic mercury circulating in the general environment is dissolved into freshwater and seawater, condensed through the food chain, ingested by humans, and consequently affects human health. Recently, there has been much interest and discussion regarding the toxicity of methylmercury, the correlation with fish and shellfish intake, and methods of long-term management of the human health effects of methylmercury. What effects chronic exposure to a low concentration of methylmercury has on human health remains controversial. Although the possibility of methylmercury poisoning the heart and blood vessel system, the reproductive system, and the immune system is continuously raised and discussed, and the carcinogenicity of methylmercury is also under discussion, a clear conclusion regarding the human health effects according to exposure level has not yet been drawn. The Joint FAO/WHO Expert Committee on Food Additives proposed to prepare additional fish and shellfish intake recommendations for consumers based on the quantified evaluation of the hazardousness of methylmercury contained in fish and shellfish, methylmercury management in the Korea has not yet caught up with this international trend. Currently, the methylmercury exposure level of Koreans is known to be very high. The starting point of methylmercury exposure management is inorganic mercury in the general environment, but food intake through methylation is the main exposure source. Along with efforts to reduce mercury in the general environment, food intake management should be undertaken to reduce the human exposure to methylmercury in Korea.

소형선박의 항행정보 전송관리시스템에 대한 연구 (A Study on the Navigation Data Transmission-Management System of a Small Vessel)

  • VTS에서는 소형 선박들에 대한 운항정보의 파악이 어려우므로 관제에 애로가 많다. 즉, GMDSS의 대상이 아닌 소형 선박들이 평상시에 선명 및 위치정보를 전송하고, VTS에서는 입ㆍ출항하는 모든 선박들의 선명과 위치를 용이하게 확인하고 항내에서의 해난사고가 발생하지 않도록 통제할 수 있는 시스템이 필요한 실정이다. 본 연구의 항행정보 전송관리시스템은 micro-processor를 이용하여 CPS의 데이터 중에서 위치와 시간정보를 추출하고 여기에 선박의 ID를 추가하여 2,400[bps]의 저속으로 447[MHz], FSK의 송신기로 전송할 수 있는 시스템을 구현하였다. VTS에서는 이것을 수신, 복조하여 선박의 항행상태를 확인할 수 있다. 실험단계에서는 목포항을 중심으로 항해중의 데이터를 전송하였고, 수신점에서는 해도상에 실시간으로 위치를 표시하는 소프트웨어를 개발하였다. 원거리의 서비스를 위하여 기존의 SSB 통신망에 접속할 수 있는 하드웨어적인 융통성도 고려하였다.

  • 해상교통관리 방법 중에서 국내외적으로 폭주하는 해역에서의 해상교통 흐름을 정류하여 통항선박의 해상교통 안전성을 향상 시키는 방법 중 주로 이용되고 있는 것은 항로 설정 및 통항분리대의 설정이다. 항로 및 통항분리대의 설정 시 지침이 되는 설계지침 가운데 국내외적으로 항로 설계지침은 존재하지만 통항분리대에 대한 설계지침에 대한 언급은 어느 문헌에도 없어 전문가의 주관적 판단에 의하여 설정이 되고 있는 실정이다. 현재까지 통항분리대의 설정 시 해양사고의 감소효과에 대한 연구는 다소 있지만, 통항분리대의 설계지침에 대한 연구는 없다. 본 연구는 통항선박의 안전을 위하여 설정되는 통항분리제도에 대한 설계지침을 선박 운항자의 관점에서 본 정량적 수치로 제공하고자 한다. 특히 통항분리대는 많은 선박의 통항을 분리하기 위한 제도이기 때문에 통항하는 선박의 교통용량을 고려하여 설계하였다.

발라스트수 처리를 위한 전기화학적 살균처리 (Electrochemical Disinfection for Ballast Water Treatment)

  • 대형선박에서 적절한 처리없이 배출되는 발라스트수에 의한 해양 생태계의 파괴가 최근 전세계적으로 환경오염 문제로 대두되고 있다. 그 결과, 국제해사기구(IMO)는 공해로 배출되기 전 발라스트수의 적절한 처리를 강제하는 국제협약을 시행할 예정이다. IMO의 발라스트수 처리 기준을 준수하기 위해, 여과, UV 자외선, 오존 처리 등과 같은 몇몇 공정들이 연구되고 있다. 발라스트수의 살균은 매우 짧은 수리학적 체류시간 내에 처리되어야 하기 때문에, 전기화학적 처리 공정은 우수한 공정이 된다. 불용성 전극을 이용한 전기화학적 처리 공정에서 미생물의 살균능은 낮은 pH조건하에 전류밀도와 체류시간이 증가함에 따라 증가하였다. 살균처리 후 미생물의 형상을 전자현미경과 광학현미경으로 관찰하여 전기화학적으로 미생물이 살균된 형태를 확인하였다.

Wastewater from Instant Noodle Factory as the Whole Nutrients Source for the Microalga Scenedesmus sp. Cultivation

  • Cultivation of microalgae using wastewater exhibits several advantages such as nutrient removal and the production of high valuable products such as lipid and pigments. With this study, two types of wastewater from instant noodle factory; mixed liquor suspended solids (MLSS) and effluents after sedimentation tank were investigated for green microalga Scenedesmus sp. cultivation under laboratory condition. Optimal wastewater dilution percentage was evaluated in 24 wells microplate. MLSS and effluent without dilution showed the highest specific growth rate (${\mu}$) of $1.63{\pm}0.11day^{-1}$ and $1.57{\pm}0.16day^{-1}$, respectively, in which they were significantly (p < 0.05) higher than Scenedesmus sp. grown in BG11 medium ($1.08{\pm}0.14day^{-1}$). Ten days experiment was also conducted using 2000 ml Duran bottle as culture vessel under continuous light at approximately 5000 lux intensity and continuous aeration. It was found that maximum biomass density of microalgae cultivated in MLSS and effluent were $344.16{\pm}105.60mg/L$ and $512.89{\pm}86.93mg/L$ respectively and there was no significant (p < 0.05) difference on growth to control (BG11 medium). Moreover, cultivation microalgae in wastewater could reduce COD in wastewater by 39.89%-73.37%. Therefore, cultivation of Scenedesmus sp. in wastewater from instant noodle factory can yield microalgae biomass production and wastewater reclamation using photobioreactor simultaneously.
