This study measures the degree of dollarization in North Korea using results from a survey of 231 North Korean refugees. Specifically, we compare foreign currency use of households as both store-of-value substitutes (i.e., asset substitution) and transaction substitutes (i.e., currency substitution) before and after the confiscatory currency reform of 2009. The degree of dollarization has advanced since the currency reform in terms of both asset and currency substitutions. Survey results also indicate that the Chinese yuan is frequently used in the Sino-North Korean border area, whereas the US dollar is predominantly used in non-border areas. Furthermore, foreign currency increasingly serves as a medium of exchange not only for large transactions but also for smaller transactions, such as food purchases.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the prevalence and differences of risk factors of Metabolic syndrome according to menopausal status. From the database of the 5th Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES V) conducted in 2012, data of 3,537 women who responded to health interview and health examination questionnaires. The presence of Metabolic syndrome was assessed using the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) criteria. The prevalence of Metabolic syndrome was 17.3% in premenopause and 54.3% in postmenopause. BMI, waist circumference, blood pressure, total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, triglyceride, and Ferritin were higher in postmenopausal women compared to premenopausal women. However, postmenopausal women had lower HDL cholesterol and TIBC when compared to premenopausal women. Hypertension was the most prominent characteristic of postmenopausal women. Low HDL cholesterol showed up as a meaningful factor in premenopausal women. According to multiple regression analysis, waist circumference, fasting glucose, and HDL cholesterol were independent predictors of menopause. Therefore, obesity control and blood lipids management is recommended for postmenopausal women.

The purpose of this study was to establish a Korean reading ability assessment category based on a reading comprehension theory, and to establish an evaluation framework for Korean reading ability after creating the evaluation factors corresponding to each category through expert Delphi survey. The three levels of reading comprehension that were constructed are the following: language knowledge, text comprehension, and interpretation and comprehension of new ideas and application. This study suggested that constructs of Korean reading assessment reflected reading theory. This study has meaningful consequences which suggest verified constructs through Delphi surveys.

This study explored how a particular social media can be used to supplement elementary-level Korean language course in the US public university. The researchers administered a survey measuring students' patterns and habits of social media use. Based on the survey results, researchers designed six different types of learning materials and uploaded them regularly to Instagram throughout the semester. At the end of the semester, a survey was conducted to find out students' satisfactory level. From the 44 students' responses, the study found out that using Instagram 1) is more accessible to students than any other learning management system, 2) is fun and students are willing to participate, 3) increased the target language exposure and authentic language use, 4) increased interaction between teachers, students and even other native speakers, and 5) is helpful to improve listening and other language skills. The study closes with the suggestion for further experimental studies.

The purpose of this survey-based study was to investigate high school students' perceptions of mathematics teachers' implementation of Universal Design for Learning (UDL)-based practices and technology in their mathematics classes in 2017. A total of 303 high school students in South Korea participated in this online survey on teachers' use of technology for instructional practices, the frequency of technology tool use, and the meeting of UDL guidelines in mathematics instruction. According to frequency analysis, high school students generally perceived their teachers' mathematics teaching as somewhat positive in providing multiple means of representation, action and expression, and engagement. However, mathematics teachers' implementation of technology tools in their mathematics classes was generally limited. This study indicated significant and positive relationships between variables regarding the use of technology tools and teachers' efforts to follow the UDL guidelines. Applying the Chi-squared test, we further examined how each survey result differed according to high school students' academic achievements and grade levels.

Normal Operation Safety Survey (NOSS) is a safety management tool used by air traffic control organizations to measure data related to threats and errors to proactively prevent accidents before they occur. NOSS was developed to be applied to the air traffic control field according to the concept of Line Operation Safety Audit (LOSA) conducted by airlines to reduce human errors in the cockpits. Safety management based on data is crucial for the prevention of control-related accidents, and the competency of observers for this is important for the successful implementation of NOSS. Based on LOSA implementation experiences and expert interviews, this paper introduces the international NOSS methods and discusses the key factors required for effective observation and the implementation methods and implications of NOSS observer training.

Nowadays, with the spread of the Internet and the emergence of high-performance computers and various peripheral devices, our society is undergoing great changes. In the field of education, various types of education using smart education infrastructure are being conducted. The spread of the Internet and the development of various devices have problems that can lead to addiction due to excessive Internet use. Most of the problems that appear in adolescence are immersed in games, which can affect academic achievement. Therefore, in this study, the effect of excessive Internet use on students' academic achievement was studied. The survey for the study was conducted through a questionnaire survey, and the subjects of the survey were high school students majoring in humanities. As a result, the relationship between academic achievement and Internet addiction was low in the middle, upper, and lower groups in the general user group. Also, in the highrisk user group, it appeared high in the order of middle, low, and high.

With the increased economic profit in China, people tend to give more attention to the nurturing of children. The change in the food markets directly connected to the infants' health seem to have brought various consumption patterns different than before. Based on the actual condition survey operated by this research, the expansion in the scale of consumption and preference to the imported food for infants appeared in the Chinese food markets for infants. The rapidly increased amount of the online purchases of the food for Chinese infants was checked through the condition survey. Based on the analysis results, with the purpose of increasing the purchase opportunities of the Korean food for infants to the Chinese consumers, it should not only perform the promotion activities such as the promotion for the product's superiority and various promotional event, but also establish the pricing strategy for each entry step to the Chinese market. Because the purchase experience of the Korean food for infant plays the important role for the additional payments decision, it is estimated that there is a need to expand the opportunities for the Chinese consumers to approach the Korean food for infants both directly and indirectly.

This study attempts to analyze the trade costs of domestic firms utilizing the FTAs in terms of burden of expenses in managing the rules of origin. In doing so, we classify the managing costs of FTA rules of origin into three categories (that is, (i) ex ante costs from acquiring necessary information and building the infrastructure in the advance stage before the FTAs, (ii) the actual costs of the origin management in the application stage of FTA preferential treatment, (iii) ex post management cost in the preparation stage of origin verification) and perform a survey on the greater details on each category. Using the comprehensive results from the survey regarding domestic firm's use of FTAs, this paper also discusses the issues related to small and medium-sized firms and addresses the concerns involved with their managing costs of FTA rules of origin. Importantly, this paper emphasizes the importance of government supports to reduce inefficiency induced by the additional costs that domestic firms face in their use of FTAs and proposes the various policy implications regarding the managing costs of rules of origin.

Purpose - This research addresses the question of how an international retailer like Costco can succeed in a foreign mature market and satisfy the local consumers. Our study aims to promote our understanding of how foreign retailers influence local consumers in a mature market with differentiated business models. Research design, data, and methodology - Our study uses company publications, secondary sources of information and the results of a questionnaire survey consisting of 106 participants. Consumer responses were solicited through a questionnaire survey conducted in the city of Kobe in December of 2013. Results - Product differentiation from local retailers in a mature market like Japan gave Costco a competitive edge. Compared with local supermarkets, Costco was preferred by Japanese consumers for its variety of goods that it carries, as well as in-store promotion large package of selling units, in-store amenities, and customer services. Conclusions - First, a theoretical framework is proposed in this study that can aid in developing localization strategies in a mature market such as Japan. Second, it reveals that an international retailer can succeed in a foreign market by stimulating local consumers to change their purchasing behavior, without having to alter the prevailing format of operation.
