The Australian construction industry is characterized as being a competitive and risky business environment due to lack of cooperation, insufficient trust, ineffective communication and adversarial relationships which are likely lead to poor project performance. Relational contracting (RC) is advocated by literature as an innovative approach to improve the procurement process in the construction industry. Various studies have collectively added to the current knowledge of known RC norms, but there seem to be little effort on investigating the determinants of RC and its impact on project outcomes. In such circumstances, there is lack of evidence and explanation on the manner on how these issues lead to different performance. Simultaneously, the New Engineering Contract (NEC) that embraced the concept of RC is seen as a modern way of contracting and also considered as one of the best approaches to the perennial problem of improving adversarial relationships within the industry. The reality of practice of RC in Australia is investigated through the lens of the NEC. A synthesis of literature views on the concept, processes and tools of RC is first conducted to develop the framework of RC. A case study approach is proposed for an in-depth analysis to explore the critical issues addressed by RC in relation to project performance. Understanding the realities of RC will assist stakeholders in the construction industry with their investment in RC.

In the past two decades, due to the rapid fluctuations in the oil supply and demand in Northeast Asia as well as a surge in oil prices in the early 2000s, Korea has been developing the Northeast Asia Oil Hub project as a national project. This project was promoted based on the policy consideration that the nation's energy security and regional development can be promoted by establishing an oil hub in Northeast Asia that can eventually replace Singapore as East Asia's oil logistics hub. Following the construction of a large-scale oil storage facility in Yeosu in 2013, the main project in Ulsan has suffered many difficulties due to environmental changes such as the supply and demand of oil and political factors. The survey, which investigated the performance, problems, and prospects of the oil hub project, illustrates that scores of all sectors are of average level. In terms of performance and prospects, policies such as facility investment, law, and system improvement were determined to be rather high while operational areas such as value-added activities, profitability, and marketing activities were perceived as having more serious problems by respondents. In conclusion, despite the strong potential of Korea's oil hub based on its geographical location, facilities, and oil product capacity, there are problems related to policies, institutions, and investment. In the future, the oil hub business should be reviewed by considering environmental factors, and a drastic improvement plan for attracting foreign investors and oil traders should be established.

Objective of Urban regeneration project is a recovery of urban utilities through a physical, environmental, cultural, industrial and economic regeneration. The current paradigm of urban regeneration is not a simple redevelopment as physical redevelopment or improvement. Urban regeneration project is an overall development including a central commercial capacity and business capacity for administration and management, cultural facilities, sightseeing, a residential area. So Urban regeneration project include a various project. Project management of Urban Regeneration project is widely different with general project management. For that purpose, this research would offer to contribute the success factors of urban regeneration project for successful project. For offering these, this research analyzed the properties of urban regeneration project and success factors of construction project by reviewing a literature. The principal characteristics are variety objectives of each district of urban regeneration project, a diversity of stakeholder's objectives and complex structure of stakeholders, an unstructured decision-making system, a lack of plan for business cooperation. We abstracted factors for urban regeneration from brainstorming and verification by experienced experts. We suggest 2 factors related to achieving a goal effectively and 10 factors related to progress of urban regeneration project efficiently.

New town development project which has manifold operations is usually on a large scale and its spin-off spreads widely. Although international new town development market is widely increasing, new town development market in Korea is now decreasing. Thus, Korean public new town development company which has a lot of business experiences in local new town development market is now facing the necessity of making a foray. This study had a Focus Group Interview with people who experienced in international construction market to set up the core factors of international new town development market. After that, Importance Performance Analysis and Content Analysis were performed with questionnaire to determine the present condition of Korean public new town development company.

As a government agency or the Government-donated Research Institute or industrial research institute is intended to develop a product or to construct a system such as a railway safety systems by research and development process, a life cycle model leading a product development or a research and development is essential to them to systematically and effectively progress it. In this paper, the refined life cycle model to effectively conduct the national railway safety project consists of the life cycle phases and their detail descriptions with reference to other life cycle model in the international standard and the other national guidance and other industrial domain such as ship-building, weapon system, and aerospace areas, the proposed life cycle model in the paper considerably reflects the characteristics of the traditional research and development project in railway safety domain. A guidance of a life cycle model which based on lots of the life cycle model in other domains proposes additionally.

The concepts of 'sustainable development', 'sustainable construction' and 'green building' have been elevated to priority levels in all types and phases of construction project development worldwide. Consultants and contractors are now required to seriously consider the impact of their operations on the natural environment and the society, and consequently adopt sustainable construction practices in the development process to minimize and mitigate the negative impacts of their activities. However, existing sustainability rating tools apply to the design, post-construction and operation phases of a building; no tool exists for the rating of the performance of the contractor or the project team at the construction phase. This study aimed to develop a model for evaluating the sustainability of construction operations, drawing on the global best practice standards on sustainability. Practical applications of the model were carried out through case studies to evaluate the performances of fifteen construction firms in New Zealand. The developed model and the outcomes of the case studies were presented, including potential areas of weaknesses, strengths, constraints to achievement or adoption of sustainable construction practices and areas for improvement in the operations of the firms. The successful application of the developed model in practice shows its usefulness and ease of application. It is therefore recommended for adoption as a simple but effective system for measuring and reporting on sustainability performance or sustainability of construction operations of firms in New Zealand and elsewhere.

This research is centered on the adoption and evolution of Building Information Modeling Execution Plans (BEPs) and Employer's Information Requirements (EIRs) within the Japanese construction sector. Presently, these pivotal documents have not been comprehensively integrated into the Japanese industry, lacking a uniform standard. Addressing this gap, our study investigates the development of an automated system designed to generate optimal BEPs and EIRs, informed by project summaries and survey data. The system's development leverages insights from successful international BEP and EIR models, adapting these to align with the specific requirements of Japanese construction projects. It is tailored to facilitate key processes, including the assessment of BIM-capable personnel and the elucidation of BIM objectives within these projects. The objective of this research is to formulate actionable guidelines and tools that advance the implementation and effectiveness of BIM in Japan. By streamlining the generation of BEPs and EIRs, the system is expected to enrich BIM comprehension and application in the national construction landscape. This initiative not only serves the immediate needs of the local industry but also harmonizes global BIM methodologies with Japanese practices. In sum, this study contributes significantly to the refinement of BIM practices in Japan, promoting a more knowledgeable and efficient approach to construction project management.

The success and failure of any project depends upon many factors, the Project Manager is considered to be the key contributor to the success of any project, as well as a guide to the team members to achieve the client satisfaction (Cost, Time and Quality). Therefore the main aim of this paper is to provide a practical approach for understanding the importance of the Project Manager and his effectiveness to the success of the construction projects. In addition, the Project Manager's roles, responsibilities and duties have direct impact to the success of the construction projects. In order to identify the thoughts and opinion of the construction industry on this particular assertion, a quantitative study was carried out within the UK construction industry. The result of the study shows that there is an extremely strong correlation between the Project Manager and the success of the construction projects. In construction projects the Project Manager is considered to be one of the most important people who can lead and drive the projects in the right direction and conclude construction projects successfully. Moreover, these can play the most important role regarding the improvement of the organization's performance, the organization's profitability and the client's satisfaction. The research confirmed that the Project Manager is a very essential element to the success of the construction project and have an impact at every stage of the construction project. So it concluded that selection of a Project Manager should be carefully done with regard to experience, knowledge, power/authority and good understanding to the kind of the project.
