Subgroup Discovery Method with Internal Disjunctive Expression

  • We can obtain useful knowledge from data by using a subgroup discovery algorithm. Subgroup discovery is a rule model learning method that finds data subgroups containing specific information from data and expresses them in a rule form. Subgroups are meaningful as they account for a high percentage of total data and tend to differ significantly from the overall data. Subgroup is expressed with conjunction of only literals previously. So, the scope of the rules that can be derived from the learning process is limited. In this paper, we propose a method to increase expressiveness of rules through internal disjunctive representation of attribute values. Also, we analyze the characteristics of existing subgroup discovery algorithms and propose an improved algorithm that complements their defects and takes advantage of them. Experiments are conducted with the traffic accident data given from Busan metropolitan city. The results shows that performance of the proposed method is better than that of existing methods. Rule set learned by proposed method has interesting and general rules more.

Monitoring and Scheduling Methods for MIMO-FIFO Systems Utilizing Max-Plus Linear Representation

  • This paper proposes an approach to monitoring and scheduling methods for repetitive MIMO-FIFO DESs. We use max-plus algebra for modeling and formulation, known as an effective approach for controller design for this type of system. Because a certain type of linear equations in max-plus algebra can represent the system's behavior, the principal concerns in past researches were how to solve the equations. However, the researches focused mainly on analyses of the relation between inputs and outputs of the system, which implies that the changes or the slacks of internal states were not clarified well. We first examine several properties of the corresponding state variables, which contribute to finding and tracing the float times in each process. Moreover, we provide a rescheduling method that can take into account delays or changes of the internal states. These methods would be useful in schedule control or progress management.

공과대학 신입생의 사고양식을 고려한 글쓰기 능력 탐색 (Exploration on Writing Ability Considering Thinking Styles in Engineering Freshmen)

  • This research aims to explore the relationships between academic writing ability and 'thinking styles' (capable of representing individual differences and diversity) in engineering freshmen in Korea, and to draw educational implications for the development of instructional strategies. (Academic) Writing is not just about conveying an idea or content, it is also about the representation of writer's self. In this perspective, there has been some research conducted on writing (process) and personality. However, to date, little attention has been paid to writing ability of engineering students and its relationships with thinking styles. This study was conducted with 127 engineering freshmen as well as 67 non-engineering freshmen at H University, and students' writing ability as well as their thinking styles have been measured before and after writing class for 15 weeks. Our findings show that firstly, there was a significant difference of writing ability by majors. Second, there were significant differences in freshmen's thinking styles by majors. Third, there was significant differences of writing ability according to thinking styles. Freshmen's internal, legislative and hierarchical styles scored significantly higher in writing ability than the others. And as for the engineering freshmen, internal, external and global styles scored significantly higher in writing ability than the others. Finally, there was a weak but significant relationship between writing ability and thinking styles(hierarchical & internal). These findings are expected to provide an explanation for the development of instructional strategies of writing (related) courses in engineering school.

Durational aspects of Korean nasal geminates

  • The current study focused on the production of geminate nasal consonants across different word boundary types in Korean as a function of speech style to investigate whether temporal properties are preserved across varying speaking rates. Assimilated geminates in Korean, known as true geminates, are produced with distinctively longer consonant duration compared to singletons. Despite a large body of literature for geminates across different languages, geminates in Korean have been relatively less investigated with respect to the durational patterns in relative terms and temporal variabilities. In this study, singletons, word-internal geminates and word-boundary (fake) geminates produced by ten native Seoul Korean speakers were compared in terms of absolute consonant closure duration, preceding vowel duration, the relative ratios (consonant-to-preceding vowel duration) as well as the temporal variabilities in speech production. The results showed that word-internal geminates were produced with longer consonant duration and greater temporal variabilities than singletons and word-boundary geminates in absolute duration, indicating relatively greater flexibility in timing. However, only word-internal geminates were produced with distinctively longer consonant duration with significantly lower variability in relative duration regardless of speech styles. The results provide some insight into the representation of temporal information in the production of Korean geminate consonants.

Recovering structural displacements and velocities from acceleration measurements

  • In this research, an internal model based method is proposed to estimate the structural displacements and velocities under ambient excitation using only acceleration measurements. The structural response is assumed to be within the linear range. The excitation is assumed to be with zero mean and relatively broad bandwidth such that at least one of the fundamental modes of the structure is excited and dominates in the response. Using the structural modal parameters and partial knowledge of the bandwidth of the excitation, the internal models of the structure and the excitation can be respectively established, which can be used to form an autonomous state-space representation of the system. It is shown that structural displacements, velocities, and accelerations are the states of such a system, and it is fully observable when the measured output contains structural accelerations only. Reliable estimates of structural displacements and velocities are obtained using the standard Kalman filtering technique. The effectiveness and robustness of the proposed method has been demonstrated and evaluated via numerical simulations on an eight-story lumped mass model and experimental data of a three-story frame excited by the ground accelerations of actual earthquake records.

하이브리드 피처 생성 및 딥 러닝 기반 박테리아 세포의 세분화 (Segmentation of Bacterial Cells Based on a Hybrid Feature Generation and Deep Learning)

  • We present in this work a segmentation method of E. coli bacterial images generated via phase contrast microscopy using a deep learning based hybrid feature generation. Unlike conventional machine learning methods that use the hand-crafted features, we adopt the denoising autoencoder in order to generate a precise and accurate representation of the pixels. We first construct a hybrid vector that combines original image, difference of Gaussians and image gradients. The created hybrid features are then given to a deep autoencoder that learns the pixels' internal dependencies and the cells' shape and boundary information. The latent representations learned by the autoencoder are used as the inputs of a softmax classification layer and the direct outputs from the classifier represent the coarse segmentation mask. Finally, the classifier's outputs are used as prior information for a graph partitioning based fine segmentation. We demonstrate that the proposed hybrid vector representation manages to preserve the global shape and boundary information of the cells, allowing to retrieve the majority of the cellular patterns without the need of any post-processing.

스키마에 의한 현대주택의 전통성 표현에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Expression of Traditionality in the Contemporary House base on Schema)

  • An architecture is a result from representation of design knowledge by architect's creative thinking, and operated only in his internal organization system. Design knowledge based upon the experience that they have achieved in the past as well as the informations they have accumulated over the time. In this point of view, the Schema that formed by problems settlement and process repetitions for the best conclusion, not only play an important part in the designer's thinking system about a specific problem but also appeared by distinctive features. This research looks to achieve a new design method by finding out how architects express traditionality in the contemporary house through schema. This research analyze contemporary house built in seoul of 1990's. The result are as followings. First, Schema is a 'frame' that already exist in the architect's thinking, will make a good guide about express the traditionality. Second, We found out several distinctive characters in the form and the space. The form is divided in five types. It is an condensed form of roof image, the metamorphosis of form grammar, the change of part details, the representation of design principle and the directly expression. Lastly, In the space, it is the borrow of the connection method of inside and external space, the three parts composition of the space, the adaptation of 'Madang' and the Independent composition of the space due to 'Chae'

인스톨레이션 공간에서 나타나는 하이퍼매개적 특성 (A Study on Characteristics of Hypermediacy Revealed in Installation Space)

  • In relation to spatial expression, the remediation theory of Jay David Bolter & Richard Grusin shows a sufficient possibility of providing extended idea and experience through the space of critical representation. The remediation theory discussed in the scope of new media says about the existence method and the development process of media through immersion into media and awakening, and one attribute of remediation which aims at the extension of another realistic experience and recognition through various media, contains common denominators which display diversity and complexity of installation space, and use the audience as expression elements. Therefore, this study aims to apply the remediation theory in order to interpret space using more diverse and multisensory expression methods. For achieving this purpose, this study found the connection among characteristics of hypermediacy which is an axis of installation and remediation theory, and analyzed diverse cases regarding installation space and characteristics of hypermediacy, depending on external aspects of form and expression and internal aspects of experience and cognition. The method of hypermediation expression in installation space converts the recognition about the basic custom of new experience, space and representation. This means that the logic of remediation could approach space by leading to more extended form and recognition. In conclusion, the characteristics of space and the possibility of extended expression revealed in the relationship between installation space and hypermediacy logic would provide another developmental significance for research on space design.

천이 사건 순서의 표현과 정형화 (Specifcation and Farmalization of Transition Event Sequence)

  • 이 논문에서 우리는 OARTS(Object based Approach for Real-Time Systems)를 위한 시나리오를 표현하는 방법과 명세언어 및 확인기법을 제안한다. 이 방법은 지금까지 방법론 차원의 시나리오를 다루지 않았기 때문에 일반적인 모델링기법(사건추적도)에 명세언어와 확인방법을 포함한다. 본 논문은 객체에 기초한 통신 인터페이스인 외부 모듈 천이의 동기를 중심으로 내부 액션 천이와 외부 사건들의 열의 표현에 중점을 둔다. 실제의 예를 통하여 제안된 방법이 분석 단계의 요구사항들을 잘 반영하였으며 개념적인 확인기를 통하여 그 표현의 정당성을 확인할 수 있었다. 또한 이 방법은 일반적인 실시간 시나리오를 표현하기 위한 분석 도구로도 이용될 수 있을 것이다.

칼라 지도 영상에서 도로 정보 추출 (Extraction of Road from Color Map Image)

  • 지리 정보 시스템의 구축을 위한 기존의 수치 지도화 방법은 많은 비용과 시간이 소요되는 작업이므로 자동입력을 위한 도구의 필요성이 절실하다 지도의 특징을 살펴 보면, 몇 가지 특징적인 색을 이용하여 정보를 계층화시켜 작성되어 있으므로, 영상에서 색 정보를 분리하면, 여러 가지 정보를 효율적으로 추출할 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 칼라 지도 영상에서 도로 정보를 추출하는 알고리즘을 제안하였다. 스캐너로 입력된 칼라 지도영상을 색 계층별로 분리하고, 도로를 포함하고 있는 영상에서 모폴로지 연산의 하나인 조건적 볼림 연산을 병렬적으로 적용하는 알고리즘을 제안하였다. 제안된 복원 알고리즘을 이용하여 정보의 중첩으로 인한 도로의 훼손된 부분을 효율적으로 복원하였으며, 세선화와 벡터화를 통하여 도로의 정보를 표현하였다.
