In this paper we apply statistical reliability tools to manage and seek improvements in the strengths of medium density fiberboard (MDF). As a part of the MDF manufacturing process, the product undergoes destructive testing at various intervals to determine compliance with customer′s specifications. Workers perform these tests over sampled cross sections of the MDF panel to measure the internal bond (IB) in pounds per square inches until failure. We explore both graphically and statistically this "pressure-to-failure" of MDF. Also, we briefly comment on reducing sources of variability in the IB of MDF.

FRP reinforced lightweight concrete structures can offer corrosion resistance and weight reduction effect simultaneously, so practical use of the structures may be expected afterwards. But to make concrete structures using lightweight concrete and FRP bar, that can resist external forces without internal slip of the FRP bar, it is very important to understand bond characteristic between lightweight concrete and FRP bar. During that time, a lot of studies for bond behaviors of FRP bar in normal concrete were conducted, but studies for bond behavior of FRP bar in lightweight concrete are very limited to date. So, bond characteristic between lightweight concrete and helically deformed GFRP bar was investigated in this study. Three main parameters were considered in experimental investigation: type of rebar, concrete type, and compressive strength of lightweight concrete. As an experimental result, it could be known that bond strength of helically deformed GFRP bar in lightweight concrete was 0.49 times bond strength of steel reinforcement in normal concrete.
The objectiveness of this study was to evaluate whether low-viscosity composite can bond effectively to dentin surface without bonding resin. The low-viscosity composites being 50wt% filler content were made by the inclusion of bonding resin of two self-etching systems(Cleafil SE Bond, Unifil Bond) varied with contents as 0, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50wt%. Exposed dentin surfaces of extracted 3rd molars are used. Dentin bond strengths were measured. The tests were carried out with a micro-shear device placed testing machine at a CHS of 1mm/min after a low-viscosity composite was filled into an iris cut from micro tygon tubing with internal diameter approximately 0.8mm and height of 1.0mm. 1 Flexural strength and modulus was increased with the addition of bonding resin. 2. Micro-shear bond strength to dentin was improved according to content of bonding resin irrespective of applying or not bonding resin in bonding procedure, and that of Clearfil SE Bond groups was higher than Unifil Bond. 3. There were no significant difference whether use of each bonding resin in bonding procedure for S-40, S-50, U-50(p>0.05). 4. In SEM examination, resin was well infiltrated into dentin after primed with self-etching primer only for S-50 and U-50 in spite of the formation of thinner hybrid layer. Low viscosity composite including some functional monomer may be used as dentin bonding resin without an intermediary bonding agent. It makes a simplified bonding procedure and foresees the possibility of self-adhesive restorative material.
This study was conducted to isolate polyacetylenes from the Acanthopanax senticosus and to identify the chemical structure of the polyacetylenes by UV, IR, $^1H$-NMR and $^{13}C$-NMR. One of the liposoluble materials was extracted with petroleum ether. Polyacetylene compounds were collected through solvent fractionation at silica gel column chromatograph. The HPLC was used for the semi-preparative separation IR spectra of fraction 5 showed triple bonds at $2256cm^{-1}$ and double bond at $1654cm^{-1}$, respectively, $^1H$-NMR spectra of Fraction 5 showed the double bond at 5.35-5.48 ppm. Triple bond at 64.0. 71.2, 74.2, 80.2 ppm and double bond at 121.89, 133.0 ppm were observed in the $^{13}C$-NMR spectra.
This study was investigated on the properties of board made from Miscanthus sinensis var. purpurascens particles differed in density of board and mixed ratio of powder type- and liquid type-phenolic resin. As the board density increase, thickness swelling and bending strength increased while water absorption decreased. With increasing the resin content, water absorption and thickness swelling decreased while MOR and internal bond strength increased. The board made of liquid type phenol-formaldehyde resin was low in water absorption and thickness swelling, and there were similar bending strengths between power type- and liquid type-phenol resin in resin cont of 11% and 13% at the board density $0.4g/cm^3$ and internal bond strength was higher with liquid type-phenolic resin in its bending strength.
This study was performed to determine the characteristics of physical and mechanical properties of domestic wood based materials; plywood, particleboard, medium density fiberboard. Main items of tested properties were panel size, moisture content, water absorption, linear expansion and thickness swelling, glue bond shear strength, bending properties(stress at proportional limit, modulus of rupture. modulus of elasticity), tensile strength, screw holding strength, and internal bond as neccessary. the results were discussed mainly with Korean Standards. The obtained conclusions are as follows; 1. Length and width of 3mm thin plywood(3-ply) and 12mm thick plywood(7-ply) were satished with KS-standard, but thicknesses of these panels were not- passed tolerance limit except one of eight makers. 2. Length and width of particleboard and medium density fiberboard were greater than the tolerance limit value of KS standard, but the thicknesses of these panels were passed this value. 3. Moisture contents of 12mm thick and 3mm thin plywood were satisfied with KS-standard except one mill made 3mm thin plywood. 4. Moisture absortion of plywood was not passed tolerance limit of KS-standard but particleboard was satisfied with this standard value. 5. Dry and wet shear strengths in glue bond of 3mm thin plywood were not reached to KS-standard, but those of 12mm thick plywood were sufficiently satisfied with KS standrad. 6. Modulus of ruptures, parallel to grain and perpendicular to grain of plywood, and particleboard and medium density fiberboard were satisfied with KS-standard. 7. Tensile strengths, parallel to grain and perpendicular to grain of plywood were satisfied with allowance stress of US product standard PS 1-74. 8. Screw holding strength of particleboard was not reached to KS standard, but internal bond was satisfied with KS standard.

Need of porcelain-repair system is largely demanding as dental porcelain restorations are increased in clinical dentistry. This study investigated shear bond strength of commercial porcelain-repair systems on dental porcelain and their reliability. Experimental groups were as follows; Group A Super Bond C&B, Group B Porcelain repair kit, Group C Ceramic repair, and Group D Spectrum system as a control. Porcelain disks were fired and embedded in epoxy resin. Porcelain surface were ground using 220 grit SiC disk, then cleaned in ultrasonic bath. Then porcelain specimens were treated with each repair system. A clear polystyrene cylinder 3.5 mm in internal diameter was filled with composite resin. Then the resin cylinder was polymerized with a visible light curing unit. Thirty one specimens at each group were prepared and stored at $37^{\circ}C$ distilled water for 48 h. Specimens were tested in an Instron testing machine according to ISO TR 11405. Mean shear bond strength and standard deviation of each group was $15.7{\pm}4.1MPa$ (Group A), $12.8{\pm}4.9MPa$ (Group B), $7.2{\pm}3.0MPa$ (Group C) and $9.6{\pm}2.2MPa$ (Group D). ANOVA and Tukey HSD post-hoc test showed that there were significant differences between groups (p<0.05). Data of bond strength were analyzed with two-parameter Weibull distribution. Confidence interval of Weibull modulus (m-parameter) at 95% of Group A (3.5-6.3) and Group D (3.6-6.0) were significantly higher than Group B (2.2-3.7) and Group C (2.0-3.4). There was little correlation between mean shear bond strength and Weibull modulus. Results indicated that acid-etching of porcelain surface increased porcelain-resin shear bonding strength.
Yielding of the internal steel reinforcement is an important mechanism that influences the Intermediate Crack-induced debonding (IC debonding) behavior in FRP-strengthened RC members since the FRP is required to carry additional forces beyond the condition of steel yielding. However, rational design practice dictates an appropriate limit state is defined when steel yielding is assured prior to FRP debonding. This paper proposes a criterion which correlates the occurrence of IC debonding to the formulation of a critical steel yielding length. Once this length is exceeded the average bond stress in the FRP/concrete interface exceeds its threshold value, which proves to correlate with the average bond resistance in an FRP/concrete joint under simple shear loading. This proposed IC debonding concept is based on traditional sections analysis which is conventionally applied in design practice. Hence complex bond stress-slip analyses are avoided. Furthermore, the proposed model incorporates not only the bond properties of FRP/concrete interface but also the beam geometry, and properties of steel and FRP reinforcement in the analysis of IC debonding strength. Based upon a solid database, the validity of the proposed simple IC debonding criterion is demonstrated.
Zinc Phosphate Cement hand been used for about more than 100 years in luting of cast gold inlay. But many scientists had been trying to develop the new form of luting agent because the ZPC hand shown the lack of adhesiveness on the tooth structure and the toxicity to the pulp tissue. Recently many researches about the surface treatment of the cast body are being done to increase the adhesion of cement to it. The conventional Class I gold inlays were fabricated in the 20 permanent molars. After the internal surface of the cast body was sandblasted with $Al_2O_3$ particles and was tin-plated, the inlays were cemented with adhesive cement [G I cement and resin cement(Super-Bond & $Panavia_{EX}$)] and the evaluation on the adhesion pattern, adhesive strength and the fracture pattern of the adhesive cast gold inlay was compared to that of the cast gold inlay cemented conventionally with ZPC. The results were as follows : 1. The surface roughness of the cast body was increased significantly after sandblasting with the $Al_2O_3$ particles and the tin oxide layer, which was consisted of round particles, came into being. 2. The bond strength was in the order of Super-Bond, ZPC, Fuji I, $Panavia_{EX}$ group. The group cemented with Super-Bond showed statistically greater strength than the other groups(p<0.05). 3. The group cemented with ZPC was fallen apart by principal adhesion failure and that with Fuji I was by complete adhesion failure. But the group with Super-Bond showed pricncipal cohesive failure pattern and in the group with $Panavia_{EX}$, complete cohesive fracture pattern was shown and small protion of tooth structure was fractured out with cast body and the fractured surface showed the figure just as the enamel prism. 4. Various gaps were shown at the pulpal side regardless of little gap at the side walls of the cavity in all groups. Only the Super-Bond was attached to the tooth structure and the other cements were detached from both the tooth and the cast body.
The first stage blade of a gas turbine was operated under a severe environment which included both $1300^{\circ}C$ hot gas and thermal stress. To obtain high efficiency, a thermal barrier coating (TBC) and an internal cooling system were used to increase the firing temperature. The TBC consists of multi-layer coatings of a ceramic outer layer (top coating) and a metallic inner layer (bond coat) between the ceramic and the substrate. The top and bond coating layer respectively act as a thermal barrier against hot gas and a buffer against the thermal stress caused by the difference in the thermal expansion coefficient between the ceramic and the substrate. Particularly, the bondcoating layer improves the resistance against oxidation and corrosion. An inter-diffusion layer is generated between the bond coat and the substrate due to the exposure at a high temperature and the diffusion phenomenon. A thickness measurement result showed that the bond coat of the suction side was thicker than that of the pressure side. The thickest inter-diffusion zone was noted at SS1 (Suction Side point 1). A chemical composition analysis of the bond coat showed aluminum depletion around the inter-diffusion layer. In this study, we evaluated the properties of the bond coat and the degradation of the coating layer used on a $1300^{\circ}C$-class gas turbine blade. Moreover, the operation temperature of the blade was estimated using the Arrhenius equation and this was compared with the result of a thermal analysis.
