  • In this paper, we design a direct radio frequency (RF) sampling receiver for multiband GNSS signals and demonstrate its performance. The direct RF sampling is a technique that does not use an analog mixer, but samples the passband signal directly, and all receiver processes are done in digital domain, whereas the conventional intermediate frequency (IF) receiver samples the IF band signals. In contrast to the IF sampling receiver, the RF sampling receiver is less complex in hardware, reconfigurable, and simultaneously converts multiband signals to digital signals with an analog-to-digital (AD) converter. The reconfigurability and simultaneous reception are very important in military applications where rapid change to other system is needed when a system is jammed by an enemy. For simultaneous reception of multiband signals, the sampling frequency should be selected with caution by considering the carrier frequencies, bandwidths, desired intermediate frequencies, and guard bands. In this paper, we select a sampling frequency and design a direct RF sampling receiver to receive multiband global navigation satellite system (GNSS) signals such as GPS L1, GLONASS G1 and G2 signals. The receiver is implemented with a commercial AD converter and software. The receiver performance is demonstrated by receiving the real signals.

  • The development of SNS and video platforms provided an opportunity to explode the activation of content production and consumption. However, in the legacy system, due to the host-based location-oriented data transmission, there are inherent limitations in efficient operation and management. As an alternative to this, a Contents Centric Network (CCN) was studied. In this paper, when intermediate nodes located between the information provider and the information requester between the real-time streaming services in the CCN environment move or restrict their use, failure through monitoring of wireless reception strength to solve problems like disconnection of transmission quality at the information consumer. We propose a stable intermediate node management mechanism through active response before occurrence.

  • A home healthcare system based wireless sensor network, which can continuously monitor and manage the elderly's electrocardiogram(ECG) signal at any space at home without space limit is proposed. The communication coverage of wireless network is expended by multi-hop wireless sensor network. In order to send the elderly's ECG data wirelessly, a small size ECG sensor node was designed to forward the ECG data over multi-hop relay network. The packet acquired by mobile ECG node is transmitted through wireless intermediate nodes to base station for analyzing the packet reception rate. Modified minimum cost forwarding(MMCF) protocol and flooding protocol are designed and implemented to check the transmission efficiency of a packet in a wireless sensor network. The developed MMCF protocol shows an advantage of high reception rate by reduced network traffic.

  • The development and speed improvement of the Internet network, and the development of many platforms based on it, have brought about a rapid expansion of production and consumption of various contents. However, the existing IP-based Internet system cannot efficiently cope with such an urgent increase in data. Accordingly, an alternative called the CCN(Contents Centric Network) has emerged, enabling more efficient data transmission and reception centered on content rather than host. In this paper, we will deal with the mobility of intermediate nodes in CCN real-time streaming service, which is one of the major research fields of CCN, and minimize network overload through more efficient path switching through RSSI detection. In other words, by improving the method of selecting and switching a spare path when an intermediate node located between the requester(consumer) and the provider moves, a mechanism for managing data transmission is not interrupted and unnecessary load due to route switching does not occur in the network.

  • The paper considers MIMO two-way scheme to optimize the end to end capacity in local wireless mesh network. The basic idea is to perform data transmission via intermediate cooperative nodes and cooperative relay therefore higher throughput can be achieved. Each node is equipped with multiple antennas, and has two time slots one for transmission (Tx) and the other is reception (Rx), which are arranged alternatively in the network. In the conventional SISO network, it takes at least four time slots to accomplish the function of two-way relay. Moreover, cooperative technique is used in order to enhance multiplexing of forward and backward streams.

  • This paper proposes a new multipath-based routing protocol on MANETs with Fast-Recovery of failures. The proposed protocol establishes the primary and secondary paths between a source and a destination considering the end-to-end packet reception reliability of routes. The primary path is used to transmit messages, and the secondary path is used to recover the path when detecting failures on the primary path. If a node detects a link failure during message transmission, it can recover the path locally by switching from the primary to the secondary path. By allowing the intermediate nodes to recover locally the route failure, the proposed protocol can reduce the number of packet loss and the amount of control packets for setting up new paths. The simulation result using QualNet simulator shows that the proposed protocol was about 10-20% higher than other protocols in terms of end-to-end message delivery ratio and the fault recovery time in case of link fault was about 3 times faster than the other protocols.

  • In this paper, we propose a dynamic source routing protocol supporting asymmetric paths for mobile Ad Hoc networks that contain unidirectional links. At present, the existing dynamic source routing protocol supports only symmetric paths that consist of bidirectional links for routing. However, in fact, there can exist unidirectional links due to asymmetric property of mobile terminals or current wireless environment. Thus, we implement a mobile Ad Hoc routing protocol supporting unidirectional links, which is fit for more general wireless environment. Especially, the proposed protocol uses an improved multipath maintenance method in order to perform rapid route reconfiguration when route error due to mobility is detected. For performance evaluation, we consider the following factors: average route discovery time and average data reception rate. In order to obtain the factors of the performance evaluation, we did simulation for 900 seconds in the step of 100 seconds with the following scenarios: usage of route cache in intermediate nodes on route path, and different mobility/connection patterns.

  • This paper proposes the Pipelined Broadcast that broadcasts a message of size m in O(m+n-1) time in an n-dimensional hypercube. It is based on the replication tree, which is derived from the reachable sets. It greatly improves the performance compared to Ho-Kao s algorithm with the time of O(m[n/log(n+1)]). The communication in the broadcast uses all-port wormhole router with message replication capability. This paper includes the algorithm together with performance comparisons to previous schemes in practical implementation.

  • We propose a new multipath-based reliable routing protocol on MANETs, Multipath-based Reliable routing protocol with Fast-Recovery of failures (MRFR). For reliable message transmission, MRFR tries to find the most reliable path between a source and a destination considering the end-to-end packet reception reliability of the routes. The established path consists of a primary path that is used to transmit messages, and the secondary paths that are used to recover the path when detecting failures on the primary path. After establishing the path, the source transmits messages through the primary path. If a node detects a link failure during message transmission, it can recover the path locally by switching from the primary to the secondary path. By allowing the intermediate nodes to locally recover the route failure, the proposed protocol can handle the dynamic topological change of the MANETs efficiently. The simulation result using the QualNet simulator shows that the MRFR protocol performs better than other protocols in terms of the end-to-end message delivery ratio and fault-tolerance capability.

  • The effect of existing programming education has shown a limitation coming from its methodology. Thus, the researcher developed a Web-based robot programming support system and explored its possibility for overcoming problems in existing programming education and ultimately for enhancing creativity and problem-solving abilities of students. The developed system let students learn robot programming just with a PC or PDA connected to the Internet without additional hardware and software. Different types of robots linked with a server computer can be controlled by using different programming languages. It is possible to use Korean keywords for programming as well. Specially, this system was evaluated positively by the groups whose computer abilities are excellent and student of introductory or intermediate level programming course. Furthermore, the programming education that uses robot and the Hangul programming technology were given very positive reception by elementary school students.
