  • The design values of rock socketed pile related with properties of rock mass are not clearly established. However, the drilled shafts socketed in rock are widely used as the foundation of large scaled structure. In this study, the characteristics of behavior of rock socketed pile is researched, and the properties of interface between pile and rock considering soil-structure interaction are evaluated for numerical modeling of rock socketed pile based on the previous researches. Based on the properties of interface and rock mass, the behaviors of rock socketed piles are numerically modeled and compared with field measurement. To verify the numerical analysis, a micro pile socketed in rock is modeled and the results of numerical analysis are compared with field measurement. The numerical results show a good agreement with field measured data, especially in terms of load transfer characteristics.

  • For a large structure, substructure based SDM(structural dynamics modification) method is very effective to raise its dynamic characteristics. Dividing into smaller substructures has a major advantage in the aspect of computation especially for getting sensitivities, which are in the core of SDM process. But quite often, non-matching nodes problem occurs in the process of synthesizing substructures. The reason is that, in general, each substructure is modelled separately, then later combined together to form a entire structure model under interface constraint conditions. Without solving the non-matching nodes problem, the substructure based SDM can not be processed. In this work, virtual node concept is introduced. Lagrange multipliers are used to enforce the interface compatibility constraint. The governing equation of whole structure is derived using hybrid variational principle. The eigenvalues of whole structure are calculated using determinant search method. The number of degrees of freedom of the eigenvalue problem can be drastically reduced to just the number of interface degree of freedom. Thus, the eigenvalue sensitivities can be easily calculated, and further SDM can be efficiently performed. Some numerical problems are tested to show the effectiveness of handling non-matching nodes.

  • This study performed the structure analysis for development and localization of main and nose wheel in Korean Helicopter Program(KHP). Structural stability of wheel is evaluated using ANSYS. Considering wheel and tire interface, Stress analysis was conducted by applying pneumatic of tire, static load, radial load and combined load on main and nose wheel. Considering yield strength at which plastic deformation occurs, simulation results suggest the method which increases structure stability after comparing maximum stress and yield strength.

  • NiSi is less stable than the previously-used $CoSi_2$ at high temperature. Some noble metals, such as Pd and Pt, have been added to NiSi to improve its thermal stability. We employed a first principles calculation to understand the Pd segregation at the interface. An orthorhombic structure of NiSi was used to construct an orthorhombic-NiSi/Si (010). Lattice parameters along a- and c-axes in orthorhombic-NiSi were matched with those of Si for epitaxy contact. The optimized $1\times4\times1$ orthorhombic-NiSi (010) and $1\times2\times1$ Si (010) superstructures were put together to construct the orthorhombic-NiSi/Si (010), and the superstructure was relieved in calculation to minimize its total free energy. The optimized interface thickness of the superstructure was $1.59\AA$. Pd atom was substituted in Ni and Si sites located near interface. Both Ni and Si sites located at the interface were favorable for Pd substitution.

  • We fabricated IMI-O polymer containing imidazole group that can be form a complex structure between the monolayer and the metal ions at the air-water interface. Also, the monolayer behavior at the air-water interface and Langmuir-Blodget films by complexes formation have been investigated by $\pi$-A isotherms, Brewster Angle Microscopy and the scanning Maxwell-stress microscopy.

  • Characteristics of interface friction between cohesionless soils and geotechnical structure surfaces play an important role in the analysis of earth load and resistance on the structure. In general, geotechnical structures are mainly composed of either steel or concrete, and their surface roughnesses with respect to soil particle sizes influence the interface characteristics between soils and the structures. Accurate assessment of the interface friction characteristics between soils and structures is important to ensure the safety of geotechnical structures, such as mechanically stabilized earth walls reinforced with inextensible reinforcements, piles embedded into soils, retaining wall backfilled with soils. In this study, based on the database of high quality interface friction tests between frictional soils and solid surfaces from literature, equation representing peak interface friction angle is proposed. The influential factors of the peak interface friction angle are relative roughness between soil and solid surface, relative density of frictional soil, and residual (constant volume) interface friction angle. Futhermore, for the developed equation of the interface friction angle, its uncertainty was assessed statistically based on Goodness-of-fit test results.

  • This article introduces developing trends of an 'Ubiquitous Interface' as an access method for use of various network resources, such as public wireless networks and un-licensed wireless networks in ubiquitous sensor network environments, without troublesome settings or operations by users. 'Ubiquitous Interface' is a relatively wide sense meaning not only physical interface of specified device or between processors, but anything method for access USN. These 'Ubiquitous Interface' able to provide seamless services that adapt autonomously to the user's movements and changes in the state of wireless resources. Recently, strongly recommended current technologies are RFID, NFC, Multi-mode mobile terminal, UMA mobile terminal and Wearable computer as a future ubiquitous interface. These technologies are have to have flexibility and multiple physical communication channels for seamless service hand over and serve easy connection at huge USN to user. Also, they have to must have flexible software structure. Finally, through the 'Ubiquitous Interface', we will be experience of seamless communication and realize a real liberty of communication.

  • Realization of the economical, reliable, and efficient ATM interface block becomes an important key to development of the ATM switching system when we consider new issues raised recently. In this paper, we summarize requirements for the ATM interface block and present the UNI (User Network Interface)/NNI (Network Node Interface) architecture to meet these requirements. We also evaluate the performance of the multiplexer adopting the various multiplexing schemes and service disciplines. For ATM UNI/NNI interface technologies, we have developed a new policing device using the priority encoding scheme. It can reduce the decision time for policing significantly. We have also designed a new spacer that can space out the clumped cell stream almost perfectly. This algorithm guarantees more than 99 % conformance to the negotiated peak cell rate. Finally, we propose the interface architecture for accommodation of the ABR (Available Bit Rate) transfer capability. The proposed structure that performs virtual source and virtual destination functions as well as a switch algorithm can efficiently accommodate the ABR service.
