비영리 공연조직의 재정성과에 관한 연구 - 미국오케스트라를 중심으로 - (A Study on the Financial Performance for Nonprofit Performing Arts Organizations: Focusing on American Symphony Orchestras)

  • 본 연구는 비영리 공연조직의 재정성과를 살펴보고 조직의 생존 전략 방안을 제시하는 데 있다. 미국오케스트라의 상위 73개 단체의 IRS 990tax의 데이터를 최종분석에 사용하였다. 종속변수인 재정성과는 후원성과와 매출성과로 구분하였고, 독립 변수는 외부환경, 문화자본, 내부역량, 정부요인, 사회자본으로 하였다. 분석기법은 패널 GLS를 사용했다. 후원성과의 결정요인으로 주별 취업자 수, 오케스트라 연령, 규모, 지휘자의 미국국적, 정부지원금, 자원봉사자수가 정(+)의 관계로 나타났으며 주별 문화예술시장의 크기는 부(-)의 관계가 나타났다. 주별 1인당 총생산량과 학사 학위 이상 소지자 비율, 1인당 여가지출비용은 유의미한 관계가 나타나지 않았다. 매출성과의 경우 주별 취업자 수, 교육수준, 오케스트라 연령, 규모, 지휘자의 미국 국적, 정부지원금, 자원봉사자 수는 정(+)의 관계가 나타났고 문화예술시장의 규모는 부(-)의 관계가 나타났다. 이번 연구는 비영리 공연조직의 성과측정 방안을 제시하며, 특별히 사회자본이 조직의 성과를 내는데 영향을 끼치는 요인이란 것을 발견하는데 의미가 있다. 하지만 문화자본이 재정성과에 절대적인 영향을 주지 않는다는 점이 나타났고, 조직의 크기별로 다소 다른 결과가 나온 것은 추후 연구로 살펴봐야 할 것이다. 본 연구를 통해 앞으로 국내외 비영리 공연조직의 성과를 향상시키고 지속가능한 경영을 위한 전략을 세우는 데 도움을 줄 것으로 기대한다.

  • To make a long story short I made up my mind to experiment with a multimedia approach to my classroom presentations two years ago because my ways of giving instructions bored the pants off me as well as my students. My favorite ways used to be sometimes referred to as classical or traditional ones, heavily dependent on the three elements: teacher's mouth, books, and chalk. Some call it the 'MBC method'. To top it off, I tried audio-visuals such as tape recorders, cassette players, VTR, pictures, and you name it, that could help improve my teaching method. And yet I have been unhappy about the results by a trial and error approach. I was determined to look for a better way that would ensure my satisfaction in the first place. What really turned me on was a multimedia CD ROM title, ELLIS (English Language Learning Instructional Systems) developed by Dr. Frank Otto. This is an integrated system of learning English based on advanced computer technology. Inspired by the utility and potential of such a multimedia system for regular classroom or lab instructions, I designed a simple but practical multimedia language learning laboratory in 1994 for the first time in Korea(perhaps for the first time in the world). It was high time that the conventional type of language laboratory(audio-passive) at Hahnnam be replaced because of wear and tear. Prior to this development, in 1991, I put a first CALL(Computer Assisted Language Learning) laboratory equipped with 35 personal computers(286), where students were encouraged to practise English typing, word processing and study English grammar, English vocabulary, and English composition. The first multimedia language learning laboratory was composed of 1) a multimedia personal computer(486DX2 then, now 586), 2) VGA multipliers that enable simultaneous viewing of the screen at control of the instructor, 3) an amplifIer, 4) loud speakers, 5)student monitors, 6) student tables to seat three students(a monitor for two students is more realistic, though), 7) student chairs, 8) an instructor table, and 9) cables. It was augmented later with an Internet hookup. The beauty of this type of multimedia language learning laboratory is the economy of furnishing and maintaining it. There is no need of darkening the facilities, which is a must when an LCD/beam projector is preferred in the laboratory. It is headset free, which proved to make students exasperated when worn more than- twenty minutes. In the previous semester I taught three different subjects: Freshman English Lab, English Phonetics, and Listening Comprehension Intermediate. I used CD ROM titles like ELLIS, Master Pronunciation, English Tripple Play Plus, English Arcade, Living Books, Q-Steps, English Discoveries, Compton's Encyclopedia. On the other hand, I managed to put all teaching materials into PowerPoint, where letters, photo, graphic, animation, audio, and video files are orderly stored in terms of slides. It takes time for me to prepare my teaching materials via PowerPoint, but it is a wonderful tool for the sake of presentations. And it is worth trying as long as I can entertain my students in such a way. Once everything is put into the computer, I feel relaxed and a bit excited watching my students enjoy my presentations. It appears to be great fun for students because they have never experienced this type of instruction. This is how I freed myself from having to manipulate a cassette tape player, VTR, and write on the board. The student monitors in front of them seem to help them concentrate on what they see, combined with what they hear. All I have to do is to simply click a mouse to give presentations and explanations, when necessary. I use a remote mouse, which prevents me from sitting at the instructor table. Instead, I can walk around in the room and enjoy freer interactions with students. Using this instrument, I can also have my students participate in the presentation. In particular, I invite my students to manipulate the computer using the remote mouse from the student's seat not from the instructor's seat. Every student appears to be fascinated with my multimedia approach to English teaching because of its unique nature as a new teaching tool as we face the 21st century. They all agree that the multimedia way is an interesting and fascinating way of learning to satisfy their needs. Above all, it helps lighten their drudgery in the classroom. They feel other subjects taught by other teachers should be treated in the same fashion. A multimedia approach to education is impossible without the advent of hi-tech computers, of which multi functions are integrated into a unified system, i.e., a personal computer. If you have computer-phobia, make quick friends with it; the sooner, the better. It can be a wonderful assistant to you. It is the Internet that I pay close attention to in conjunction with the multimedia approach to English education. Via e-mail system, I encourage my students to write to me in English. I encourage them to enjoy chatting with people all over the world. I also encourage them to visit the sites where they offer study courses in English conversation, vocabulary, idiomatic expressions, reading, and writing. I help them search any subject they want to via World Wide Web. Some day in the near future it will be the hub of learning for everybody. It will eventually free students from books, teachers, libraries, classrooms, and boredom. I will keep exploring better ways to give satisfying instructions to my students who deserve my entertainment.

  • 오늘날 현대사회는 급변하는 사회 환경 속에서 물질 문명의 발달과 더불어 세계화, 정보화, 분권화 등의 과정에서 다양한 위험과 범죄에 노출되어 있다. 이러한 요인들은 치안환경에도 많은 영향을 미치고 있으며 이로 인한 범죄예방과 범죄발생 등 새로운 치안수요에 점차적으로 관심이 고조되고 있다. 사회의 안전을 담당하고 책임지는 주체에 대한 인식에 있어서 단순히 경찰을 비롯한 국가기관들의 책임에서 수요자 스스로 위험을 방지하고자 하는 방향으로의 전환적 책임 소재 역시 중요한 논제로 대두되어 왔다. 즉 민간이 주축이 되어 자신에게 발생될 수 있는 치안에 대한 책임을 스스로 지겠다는 적극적 의미의 관점으로 방향이 선회하고 있는데 그 이유는 치안과 관련한 모든 것을 경찰력에 의존하여 해결하는 것은 이미 한계에 도달하였다고 판단되는 상황에 이르렀기 때문이다. 따라서 이러한 사회의 변화를 예측하고 발생될수 있는 위험을 사전에 예방하려는 노력은 단순히 형사사법기관으로 대표되는 경찰 그리고 검찰의 노력에만 국한할 것이 아니라 민간 영역이 적극적으로 개입된 포괄적인 노력이 필요한 시점이라고 할 수 있을 것이다. 우리나라에서는 경비업법을 통해 사경비 분야가 공경비와의 협력을 강화해 오고 있다. 한국사회에서 강하게 대두되고 있는 분야는 민간조사 분야(Private Investigation, Private Detective)이다. 공경비 영역에서의 업무 부담을 감소시키고, 민간조사 분야의 정책적 안정을 통하여 일정 부분 민간 조사활동이 현실화되어야 한다는 주장이 입법 활동을 통하여 여러 차례 제시되면서 민간조사제도의 도입 가능성에 대한 사회적 공감대가 서서히 고조되고 있다. 이러한 시점에 발맞추어 본 연구에서는 민간조사제도의 도입 방향에 대한 고찰을 위해 지금까지 국회를 중심으로 제시된 민간조사제도 도입에 대한 발의 안을 연혁별로 분석하고, 2012년과 2013년에 걸쳐 제19대 국회에서 발의된 최근 법안을 중심으로 비교 분석을 시도하였다. 이를 토대로 민간조사제도의 도입에 대한 주요 쟁점사항과 향후 도입 시 고려되어야할 사안들을 살펴보았다. 이러한 제언을 통해 민간조사제도의 보다 발전적인 정착을 위해 단독 법안으로의 도입 필요성을 다루었으며, 본 제도의 공익적 성격을 고려하여 법인으로의 제한적 운영 필요성에 대해서도 언급하였다. 그리고 무자격자의 과도한 양산을 막기 위한 해당 분야 종사자에 대한 심층 깊은 자격시험의 실시와 본 제도의 정확한 책임 소재를 정착하기 위한 명확한 소관 부서의 지정 필요성 등을 제시하였다.

단종애사(端宗哀史)의 후광효과를 적용한 영월팔경의 스토리탤링 전략 (A Study on Storytelling of Yeongweal-palkyung Applied by Halo Effect of King Danjong' Sorrowful Story)

  • 본 연구는 단지 지명도 부족과 관광 여건의 변화에 따른 홍보 전략용으로 급조, 지정된 신영월십경 지정에 따른 문제의식에서 출발하여 영월의 관광 문화자원의 대부분이 단종과 관련되어 었다는 사실에 착안하였다. 이에 따라 익히 알려진 '단종에 대한 슬픈 역사'와 유배지 영월의 문화자원이 갖는 지명도 등의 후광효과를 통해 미개발 관광콘텐츠 영월팔경의 형식과 내용을 검토하여 "문화경관 영월팔경"이라는 경관콘텐츠의 스토리텔링 방안을 제시하고자 하였다. 본 연구에서는 영월팔경이라는 문화경관 텍스트와 <단종애사> 라는 역사콘텐츠의 조응적 관계성 모색을 통한 장소와 역사적 현장 경관의 동일성을 통한 의미와 이야기 전달과정에 주목하였다. 이를 위해 영월의 자연문화경관을 공간적 텍스트화하기 위한 틀 짜기(framing)와 켜 짜기(layering)를 시도하였다. 그리고 스토리뿐만 아니라 텔링이 텍스트 향유의 지배적 요소가 되도록 하기 위한 에피소드 등의 이야깃거리를 탐색하고 경관 주제의 모티브로 발굴하고자 하였으며, 한편으로는 스토리텔링 방식을 다양화시키기 위한 방안으로 텍스트의 구조 안에서 재맥락화가 이루어질 수 있도록 몰입 경관요소를 장소, 대상 그리고 시점으로 구분하여 현장화 하였다. 또한, 경관 몰입요소를 인포테인먼트(Infortainment)와 에듀테인먼트(Edutainment) 요소 등의 미시 콘텐츠를 제시함으로써 '영월팔경-단종애사'의 이야기성, 현장 장소성 그리고 다양한 문화콘텐츠를 공유하기 위한 상호관계성을 고려한 영월팔경 스토리텔링 전략을 제시하였다. 제안된 스토리텔링 방안이 실제 영월 관광의 대안이자 전략으로 실용화되기 위해서는 경관 연출의 리얼리티를 역동적으로 재구성하기 위한 시점의 설정과 경관 루트 연계방안 그리고 내레이션 시나리오가 갖추어져야 하며, 영월의 자연 및 풍수적 관점에서의 형국 인식과 단종 관련 역사에 대한 충분한 이해를 기반으로 한 경관해설가의 양성이 필요하며 인터넷과 디지털상용화 전략이 병행되어야 할 것으로 본다.

Oxide perovskite crystals type ABCO4:application and growth

  • In the last year great interest appears to YBCO thin films preparation on different substrate materials. Preparation of epitaxial film is a very difficult problem. There are many requirements to substrate materials that must be fullfilled. Main problems are lattice mismatch (misfit) and similarity of structure. From paper [1] or follows that difference in interatomic distances and angles of substrate and film is mire important problem than similarity of structure. In this work we present interatomic distances and angle relations between substrate materials belonging to ABCO4 group (where A-Sr or Ca, B-rare earth element, C-Al or Ga) of different orientations and YBCO thin films. There are many materials used as substrates for HTsC thin films. ABCO4 group of compounds is characterized by small dielectric constants (it is necessary for microwave applications of HTsC films), absence of twins and small misfit [2]. There most interesting compounds CaNdAlO4, SrLaAlO4 and SrLaGaO4 were investigated. All these compounds are of pseudo-perovskite structure with space group 14/mmm. This structure is very similar to structure of YBCO. SLG substrate has the lowest misfit (0.3%) and dielectric constant. For preparation of then films of substrates of this group of compound plane of <100> orientation are mainly used. Good quality films of <001> orientations are obtained [3]. In this case not only a-a misfit play role, but c-3b misfit is very important too. Sometimes, for preparation of thin films substrates of <001> and <110> orientations were manufactured [3]. Different misfits for different YBCO faces have been analyzed. It has been found that the mismatching factor for (100) face is very similar to that for (001) face so there is possibility of preparation of thin films on both orientations. SrLaAlO4(SLA) and SrLaGaO4(SLG) crystals of general formula ABCO4 have been grown by the Czochralski method. The quality of SLA and SLG crystals strongly depends on axial gradient of temperature and growth and rotation rates. High quality crystals were obtained at axial gradient of temperature near crystal-melt interface lower than 50℃/cm, growth rate 1-3 mm/h and the rotation rate changing from 10-20pm[4]. Strong anisotropy in morphology of SLA and SLG single crystals grown by the Czochralski method is clearly visible. On the basics of our considerations for ABCO4 type of the tetragonal crystals there can appear {001}, {101}, and {110} faces for ionic type model [5]. Morphology of these crystals depend on ionic-covalent character of bonding and crystal growth parameters. Point defects are observed in crystals and they are reflected in color changes (colorless, yellow, green). Point defects are detected in directions perpendicular to oxide planes and are connected with instability of oxygen position in lattice. To investigate facets formations crystals were doped with Cr3+, Er3+, Pr3+, Ba2+. Chromium greater size ion which is substituted for Al3+ clearly induces faceting. There appear easy {110} faces and SLA crystals crack even then the amount of Cr is below 0.3at.% SLG single crystals are not so sensitive to the content of chromium ions. It was also found that if {110} face appears at the beginning of growth process the crystal changes its color on the plane {110} but it happens only on the shoulder part. The projection of {110} face has a great amount of oxygen positions which can be easy defected. Pure and doped SLA and SLG crystals measured by EPR in the<110> direction show more intensive lines than in other directions which allows to suggest that the amount of oxygen defects on the {110} plane is higher. In order to find the origin of colors and their relation with the crystal stability, a set of SLA and SLG crystals were investigated using optical spectroscopy. The colored samples exhibit an absorption band stretching from the UV absorption edge of the crystal, from about 240 nm to about 550 m. In the case of colorless sample, the absorption spectrum consists of a relatively weak band in the UV region. The spectral position and intensities of absorption bands of SLA are typical for imperfection similar to color centers which may be created in most of oxide crystals by UV and X-radiation. It is pointed out that crystal growth process of polycomponent oxide crystals by Czochralski method depends on the preparation of melt and its stoichiometry, orientation of seed, gradient of temperature at crystal-melt interface, parameters of growth (rotation and pulling rate) and control of red-ox atmosphere during seeding and growth (rotation and pulling rate) and control of red-ox atmosphere during seeding and growth. Growth parameters have an influence on the morphology of crystal-melt interface, type and concentration of defects.

인지폐합수요(认知闭合需要), 심리건강화사회인소대충동구매적영향(心理健康和社会因素对冲动购买的影响) (The Impacts of Need for Cognitive Closure, Psychological Wellbeing, and Social Factors on Impulse Purchasing)

영업사원에 대한 통제유형, 반응, 그리고 직무만족 간의 구조적 관계 - 역할명확성과 자기효능감의 매개효과 - (The Structural Relationships between Control Types over Salespeople, Their Responses, and Job Satisfaction - Mediating Roles of Role Clarity and Self-Efficacy -)

  • 본 연구는 영업사원의 통제유형(긍정적/부정적 결과통제, 긍정적/부정적 행동통제)과 직무만족 간의 관계에서 결과/행동관련 역할명확성과 자기효능감을 매개변수로 도입하여 이들 연구단위들 간의 구조적 관계를 조사하는 것이다. 제약업계 영업사원들로부터 수집된 자료를 통한 실증분석 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 영업사원에 대한 통제유형이 역할명확성에 미치는 영향을 조사한 결과, 긍정적/부정적 결과통제는 모두 결과관련 역할명확성에 정(正)(+)의 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났으며, 긍정적 행동통제도 행동관련 역할명확성에 정(正)(+)의 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 그러나 부정적 행동통제는 행동관련 역할명확성에 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 영업사원에 대한 통제유형이 자기효능감에 미치는 영향을 조사한 결과, 긍정적 결과통제는 자기효능감에 정(正)(+)의 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났지만, 긍정적 행동통제는 자기효능감에 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 부정적 결과통제와 부정적 행동통제는 각각 결과관련 역할명확성과 행동관련 역할명확성의 매개를 통해 자기효능감에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 역할명확성이 자기효능감과 직무만족에 미치는 영향을 조사한 결과, 결과관련 역할명확성과 행동관련 역할명확성은 모두 자기효능감에 정(正)(+)의 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 행동관련 역할명확성은 직무만족에 정(正)(+)의 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났으나 결과관련 역할명확성은 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 끝으로, 자기효능감이 직무만족에 미치는 영향을 조사한 결과, 자기효능감은 직무만족에 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구의 결론에서는 결과의 요약, 시사점, 한계점, 그리고 미래연구를 위한 제언을 제시하였다.

  • In the service-oriented economy, knowledge and skills are considered core resources to secure competitive advantages and service innovation. Knowledge management capability, which facilitates to produce, share, accumulate and reuse knowledge, becomes as important as knowledge itself to create service value. Along with knowledge management capability, dynamic capability and operational capability are the key capabilities related to managing service delivery processes. Previous studies indicated that these three capabilities are related to service innovation. Although separately investigate the relationship between the three capabilities. The purpose of this study is 1) to define variables that have effects on service innovation including knowledge management capability, dynamic capability and operational capability, and 2) to empirically test to identify relationship among variables. In this study, knowledge management capability is defined as the capability to manage knowledge process. Dynamic capability is regarded as the firm's ability to integrate, build, and reconfigure internal and external competences to address rapidly changing environments. Operational capability refers to a high-level routine that, together with its implementing input flows, confers upon an organization's management a set of decision options for producing significant outputs of a particular type. The proposed research model was tested against the data collected through the survey method. The survey questionnaire was distributed to the managers who participated in an educational program for management consulting. Each individual who answered the questionnaire represented a knowledge based service firm. About 212 surveys questionnaires were sent via e-mail or directly delivered to respondents. The number of useable responses was 93. Measurement items were adapted from previous studies to reflect the characteristics of the industry each informant worked in. All measurement items were in, 5 point Likert scale with anchors ranging from strongly disagree (1) to strongly agree (5). Out of 93 respondents, about 81% were male, 82% of respondents were in their 30s. In terms of jobs, managers were 39.78%, professions/technicians were 24.73%, researchers were 12.90%, and sales people were 10.75%. Most of respondents worked for medium size enterprises (47,31%) in their, less than 30 employees (46.24%) in their number of employees, and less than 10 million USD (65.59%) in terms of sales volume. To test the proposed research model, structural equation modeling (SEM) technique (SPSS 16.0 and AMOS version 5) was used. We found that the three organizational capabilities have influence on service innovation directly or indirectly. Knowledge management capability directly affects dynamic capability and service innovation but indirectly affect operational capability through dynamic capability. Dynamic capability has no direct impact on service innovation, but influence service innovation indirectly through operational capability. Operational capability was found to positively affect service innovation. In sum, three organizational capabilities (knowledge management capability, dynamic capability and operational capability) need to be strategically managed at firm level, because organizational capabilities are significantly related to service innovation. An interesting result is that dynamic capability has a positive effect on service innovation only indirectly through operational capability. This result indicates that service innovation might have a characteristics similar to process innovation rather than product orientation. The results also show that organizational capabilities are inter-correlated to influence each other. Dynamic capability enables effective resource management, arrangement, and integration. Through these dynamic capability affected activities, strategic agility and responsibility get strength. Knowledge management capability intensify dynamic capability and service innovation. Knowledge management capability is the basis of dynamic capability as well. The theoretical and practical implications are discussed further in the conclusion section.

협업적 추천 기반의 여행 계획 시스템 (Multi-day Trip Planning System with Collaborative Recommendation)

  • 여행을 계획하는 일은 매우 복잡하고 많은 시간을 필요로 한다. 여행 계획을 정할 때에는 보통 관심 지점(point of interests, POIs)을 선택하고 그에 따른 다양한 제약 조건들을 고려하여 일정을 계획 한다. 관심 지점을 선정할 때 친구들에게 의견을 묻거나 인터넷에서 직접 정보를 찾으며 여행사의 도움을 받기도 한다. 하지만 이러한 방법들은 다음과 같은 어려움이 있다. 친구들에게 의견을 묻는 경우에는 친구들이 방문해 보지 못한 장소에 대한 정보를 얻기 어렵고 인터넷에서 정보를 찾는 경우에는 오히려 너무 많은 여행 정보들 때문에 필요한 정보를 탐색하고 정리하는데 많은 시간이 필요하며 여행사의 도움을 받을 때에는 여행 일정이 여행을 제공해주는 업체들 쪽으로 편중될 우려가 있다. 이러한 문제를 해결하기 위해 본 논문에서는 여행 일정 계획 시스템인 CYTRIP을 제안한다. CYTRIP은 웹 기반의 추천 시스템으로써, 여행 정보를 공유할 수 있는 공간을 제공하고, 이를 통해 참여자들의 집단 지성에 따른 관심 지점을 추천 받는다. 그리고 PDDL3를 통해 추천된 지점들의 시간적, 공간적 제약조건 따라 여행 일정이 자동으로 생성되며 이렇게 생성된 일정은 지도 위에 표시되어 사용자에게 제공된다. 여행을 계획할 때에 정해진 기간 동안 모든 추천 관심지점을 방문할 수 없는 경우가 발생한다. 이러한 문제를 피하기 위해 정해진 시간에 방문 가능한 관심 지점들의 후보 집합을 선택하고 이 후보 집합들에 대한 여행 일정을 생성한다. 제안하는 시스템의 성능평가를 위해 사용자 평가를 실시하였다. 사용자 평가를 위해 한국관광공사에서 제공하는 데이터를 활용하였고 평가 결과 제안하는 시스템이 여러 참여자들의 집단 지성을 통해 여행 일정을 계획하는데 유용하다는 것을 알 수 있었다.

Relationship between Brand Personality and the Personality of Consumers, and its Application to Corporate Branding Strategy

  • Many consumers enjoy the challenge of purchasing a brand that matches well with their own values and personalities (for example, Ko et al., 2008; Ko et al., 2006). Therefore, the personalities of consumers can impact on the final selection of a brand and its brand personality in two ways: first, the consumers may incline to purchase a brand or a product that reflects their own personalities; second, consumers tend to choose a company that has similar brand personalities to those brands that are being promoted. Therefore, the objectives of this study are following: 1. Is there any empirical relationship between a consumer's personality and the personality of a brand that he or she chooses? 2. Can a corporate brand be differentiated by the brand personality? In short, consumers are more likely to hold favorable attitudes towards those brands that match their own personality and will most probably purchase those brands matching well with their personality. For example, Matzler et al. (2006) found that extraversion and openness were positively related to hedonic product value; and that the personality traits directly (openness) and indirectly (extraversion, via hedonic value) influenced brand effects, which in turn droved attitudinal and purchase loyalty. Based on the above discussion, the following hypotheses are proposed: Hypothesis 1: the personality of a consumer is related to the brand personality of a product/corporate that he/she purchases. Kuksov (2007) and Wernerfelt (1990) argued that brands as a symbolic language allowed consumers to communicate their types to each other and postulated that consumers had a certain value of communicating their types to each other. Therefore, how brand meanings are established, and how a firm communicate with consumers about the meanings of the brand are interesting topics for research (for example, Escalas and Bettman, 2005; McCracken, 1989; Moon, 2007). Hence, the following hypothesis is proposed: Hypothesis 2: A corporate brand identity is differentiated by the brand personality. And there are significant differences among companies. A questionnaire was developed for collecting empirical measures of the Big-Five personality traits and brand personality variables. A survey was conducted to the online access panel members through the Internet during December 2007 in Korea. In total, 500 respondents completed the questionnaire, and considered as useable. Personality constructs were measured using the Five-factor Inventory (NEO-FFI) scale and a total of 30 items were actually utilized. Brand personality was measured using the five-dimension scale developed by Aaker (1997). A total of 17 items were actually utilized. The seven-point Likert-type scale was the format of responses, for example, from 1 indicating strongly disagreed to 7 for strongly agreed. The Analysis of Moment Structures (AMOS) was used for an empirical testing of the model, and the Maximum Likelihood Estimation (MLE) was applied to estimate numerical values for the components in the model. To diagnose the presence of distribution problems in the data and to gauge their effects on the parameter estimates, bootstapping method was used. The results of the hypothesis-1 test empirically show that there exit certain causality relationship between a consumer's personality and the brand personality of the consumer's choice. Thus, the consumer's personality has an impact on consumer's final selection of a brand that has a brand personality matches well with their own personalities. In other words, the consumers are inclined to purchase a brand that reflects their own personalities and tend to choose a company that has similar brand personalities to those of the brand being promoted. The results of this study further suggest that certain dimensions of the brand personality cause consumers to have preference to certain (corporate) brands. For example, the conscientiousness, neuroticism, and extraversion of the consumer personality have positively related to a selection of "ruggedness" characteristics of the brand personality. Consumers who possess that personality dimension seek for matching with certain brand personality dimensions. Results of the hypothesis-2 test show that the average "ruggedness" attributes of the brand personality differ significantly among Korean automobile manufacturers. However, the result of ANOVA also indicates that there are no significant differences in the mean values among manufacturers for the "sophistication," "excitement," "competence" and "sincerity" attributes of the corporate brand personality. The tight link between what a firm is and its corporate brand means that there is far less room for marketing communications than there is with products and brands. Consequently, successful corporate brand strategies must position the organization within the boundaries of what is acceptable, while at the same time differentiating the organization from its competitors.
