Realization of novel plasma performances based on systematic understanding of plasma behaviour using laser diagnostics

  • Laser diagnostics have been extensively used to understand plasma behaiviour under different discharge conditions. Measurements were performance for (i) electric field, (ii) electron temperature and density, and (iii) reaction products due to chemical reactions by electron impacts. The knowledge thus gained has been extensively used to realize novel plasma performances, such as epitaxial thin film depositions using plasma sputtering, performance improvements of discharge-pumped excimer laser, and developments of environmental equipment.

Ovarian teratoma removed by laparoscopic ovariectomy in a dog

  • An elective laparoscopic ovariectomy on a healthy dog revealed a cystic structure in the left ovary. The surgical procedure was successful. Histopathological examination showed the presence of a teratoma adjacent to the ovary. To the best of the authors' knowledge, this is the first reported case of an ovarian teratoma removed by laparoscopic ovariectomy in a dog by using a multiport laparoscopic ovariectomy technique.

  • 최근 우리 사회 전반에서 융복합의 개념이 새로운 가치 창출의 가능성으로 주목받게 되면서, 지식 통합에 대한 요구도 점차 확장되고 있다. 지식과 학문 분야에서 시대적 요구가 변화함에 따라 인재가 갖추어야 할 역량은 물론, 새로운 인재를 양성하기 위한 교육의 패러다임도 바뀌고 있는 것이다. 특히 이공계 대학에서는 전공 지식의 습득을 넘어, 종합적 사고력과 협동 학습 능력을 갖춘 인재 양성을 목표로 '학제 간 융복합 교육'이 확대 실시되고 있는 추세이다. 전공 지식과 현장 실무 능력을 강조함으로써 취업률을 높이는 것만이 아니라, 학생들에게 발견적 창의적 융합적 사고의 바탕이 되는 인문학적 교양과 세계관에 대한 이해를 제공하기 위해서이다. 그러나 현재 전공 및 교양 교육 차원에서 개설된 융합 교과목의 대부분은 타 학문 분야의 지식이나 이론을 소재나 화제로 활용함으로써, 단편적인 지식 습득 차원에 머무르는 경향이 강하다. 이에 본고에서는 과학기술 분야와 인문학 분야의 지식을 균형적으로 통합하여 종합적으로 사고함으로써, 지식 습득에서 한 단계 더 나아가 지식을 응용 재창조 할 수 있는 '융합형 교육 프로그램'을 구안(具案)하였다. 이 프로그램은 문화콘텐츠의 창조를 전제했을 때 유용한 '과학기술'과 '문화 원형'에 대한 이해를 제공하고, 습득된 지식을 가치 있는 결과물로 도출하기 위한 방법으로 '스토리텔링' 학습을 제안한다. 이를 통해 학습자는 과학 기술과 인문 분야를 융합할 수 있는 매개인 '과학문화콘텐츠'를 구성하기 위한 교육을 제공받게 된다. 이로써 전공 지식에 대한 탐구와 응용을 시도하는 가운데, 논리적 창의적 사고를 진작하게 될 것이다. 더불어 그간 과학과 인문학이라는 두 영역을 대상으로 한 '다학제적 교육'이 갖는 한계를 극복할 수 있으리라 본다.

  • The purpose of this study is to measure and analyze the quality of service provided to the users by evaluating the service quality of the May 18 Democratic Uprising Archives, which is a representative,special subject repository, using the SERVQUAL model. To do this, revealing the relationship between factors such as service satisfaction of the archive users, overall service quality and intention of the action. Through this, this study developed service evaluation factors by considering the special subject repository.

Hijacking Area Studies: Ethnographic Approaches to Southeast Asian Airlines

  • Area Studies, by definition, conjure ideas of emplaced knowledge; in-depth interdisciplinary understanding of language, history, culture and politics of a nation or region. Where detractors might see this approach as overly empirical, therefore precluding theoretical sophistication, others argue that "places" are either artificially constructed, or that processes of globalisation have obliterated the cultural zone. But what if we turn an ethnographic eye to those very processes and technologies themselves? Can Area Studies take to the air, and if so, what are the attendant challenges and benefits? Based on insights from ethnography amongst airline customer service workers, ground and cabin crews in Thailand and Myanmar, this research examines the airline cabin as a field for ethnographic study, and as an emplaced site for political and cultural processes. With participant observation-based knowledge of Southeast Asian cabin crews, this paper examines the 1990 hijack of Thai Airways TG 305 from an emplaced cultural perspective.

Knowledge and Perceptions of Influenza Vaccinations Among College Students in Vietnam and the United States

  • Objectives: Influenza is a significant worldwide public health issue. Knowledge and perceptions regarding the flu vaccination are associated with whether individuals obtain the vaccination. The purpose of this study was to examine how such perceptions were related to knowledge and self-efficacy regarding influenza and the flu vaccination in Vietnam and the US. Methods: College students (n=932) in Vietnam (n=495) and the US (n=437) completed a self-administered survey regarding knowledge and perceptions of influenza vaccinations in September and October 2016. Results: Vietnamese participants reported significantly lower levels of awareness about flu risk, higher levels of negative attitudes toward flu vaccination, lower levels of knowledge about the flu and vaccination, and lower levels of self-efficacy than US participants. Higher levels of flu and flu vaccination knowledge and self-efficacy regarding general responsible health practices were associated with lower levels of negative perceptions of flu risk and attitudes toward vaccination. At the same time, self-efficacy regarding responsible health practices was associated with higher levels of awareness of flu risk and lower levels of negative attitudes toward vaccination. Self-efficacy regarding exercise was associated with lower levels of perceptions of flu risk and higher levels of negative attitudes toward vaccination. Conclusions: Vietnam could benefit from influenza education based on this comparison with the US. In both countries, knowledge and self-efficacy were found to be important factors influencing perceptions of influenza risk and vaccination.

갈릴레오의 수학과 미술의 융합에 관한 연구 (A Study on Convergence between Mathematics and Fine Arts by Galileo Galilei)

  • 융복합적 인재란 자신의 전문 분야를 넘어서 다른 분야의 전문가들과 효율적인 협력 작업을 수행할 수 있는 인재를 의미하거나 아니면 스스로 다양한 분야의 지식을 융합해 낼 수 있는 인재를 의미한다. 이 논문에서는 역사적 인물들 중 다양한 분야의 지식을 융합해 내어 한 분야로의 지식만으로는 이룰 수 없는 성과를 도출해 냈던 사례로 갈릴레오를 살필 것이다. 논문에서는 르네상스 분위기 속에서 화가들과 교류했던 갈릴레오가 망원경으로 하늘을 관측한 결과를 그림으로 표현했다는 점과 그가 과거의 우주론을 비판하는 결정적인 논리를 만들어 내는 과정에서 그 그림들을 적극적으로 활용했음을 보일 것이다. 이러한 갈릴레오의 사례는 융합적 인재 양성에 있어서 목표로 삼아야 할 지향점을 제시해 준다는 점에 있어서 의미가 크다.

청소년 자녀를 둔 어머니의 양육효능감 및 양육스트레스와 부모교육 지식수준 및 요구도 (Parenting Efficacy, Parenting Stress and Knowledge Level and Demand of Parent Education for Adolescents' Mother)

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the reality of the demand for parent education by mothers of adolescents based on their knowledge of raising a child, related to parenting efficacy and parenting stress. Mothers of 207 middle school adolescents completed questionnaires. Instruments included scales on demand for parent education (Lee, 1995 and Byun, 1999), parenting efficacy (Gibaud-Wallston & Wandersman, 1978), and parenting stress (Kim, 2004 Abidin, 1990). Results showed mothers high in knowledge of parenting had higher parenting efficacy and less parenting stress mothers high in maternalanxiety expressed higher demand for parenting understanding and improvement and for their children's academic adjustment; and mothers with higher maternal parenting stress expressed higher demand for parenting education.

Education that allows South Korean Colleges of Dentistry to teach Emergency Care

  • As the medical environment and dental services change, the importance of educating dentists in responses to systemic emergencies is increasing. The current student-oriented education paradigm is moving towards training students in the abilities required to address the daily crises they will face, while also providing them with the ability to deliver knowledge. Before addressing a patient's situation, emergency physicians begin by diagnosing symptoms. As they must decide on the tests and treatments that are immediately required and must solve problems through interdisciplinary treatment, emergency physicians require additional skills and communication abilities besides clinical knowledge. Since dentistry colleges provide education that emphasizes the skills dentists require to treat oral diseases, they do not have sufficient time to teach emergency care. Additionally, because their professors lack expertise in pedagogy, dental students also have insufficient motivation to study the pathophysiology of systemic diseases. This review proposes a direction of teaching that can help dental students recognize problems and situations in emergency cases and that can help them develop their capability to immediately make a decision and resolve the problem. To do this, the author surveyed the educational philosophy and knowledge provided in the instructional design of clinical professors who give lectures on emergency care, and also examined the teaching methods of the learner-oriented education paradigm.
