  • There have been many trials for development of games using augmented reality. This paper presents a 2D puzzle game system using HSV color space to detect hand posture from an input image by smart device's cameras in real time. The developed game in this paper brings smart devices and the computer vision closer. Also this game can be a new interactive technology utilizing both the mobility of smart devices and the tangible interactivity of virtual reality in education and entertainment environments.

  • Soft engineering, based on symbiotic coexistence of human, machines and environment, is a new engineering field to explore the proper technology and the proper way of engineering. To explore soft engineering intents easily, various robot projects at Pusan National University conducted are presented. Thought experiment, interactive e-leaning, rapid prototyping engineering, biomimciry, tangibility, and ubiquity are concepts to be explored. Thought experiments projects are organized and performed, which include robot assembly game, Turing test, and robotics in science fiction. "Junk robot project" and "ubiquitous Pusan National University (u-PNU) project" have been organized. Also, bug robot project, interactive robot project, and interactive emotional robot projects are introduced. Weekly science fiction films are shown and discussed.

  • Modern people communicate in a digital space without being limited by physical space and time. On the internet, people's desire for self-expression is getting bigger, and the most common self-expression tool is characters. Characters are visual materials to express human thoughts and desires. This study is a method to positively express the viewer's self in an interactive Hangeul system. The proposed system produces new formative shapes and meanings of Hangeul through the process of deconstructing and reconstructing the characters. Immediate character transformations that are synchronized with the motion of the viewer act as a tool of self-expression by inducing the viewer's active interaction repeatedly. Therefore, the proposed interactive Hangeul is more than enough to be used as a new graphic tool beyond the text to be read, and it is highly likely to develop into cultural contents using it.

  • This paper will analysis the Jam-O-Drum developed for collaborative musical experience at first. And we suggest the multi-user interactive game system Kom-O-Drum(Korean Jam-O-Drum) as a Serious Game Platform By combining velocity, direction and touch sensitive input devices like a korea traditional drum "Jang Go" and computer graphics imagery into an LCD or PDP display up to four simultaneous players are able to participate in a collaborative approach to game's mission. Also we introduce the design of detail input device and application fields of Kom-O-Drum for Serious Game.

  • Online game business has emerged as the most lucrative entertainment industry, with over 10 million players in South Korea and over 30 million in Japan in 2005. The popularity of online games can be attributed to the availability of broadband network, pushing online games into the mainstream entertainment culture. The age distribution of online game players is expanding and a variety of new games are under development to target certain age groups. While the interactive entertainment market continues to expand, with many new online game publishers entering the Japan, relatively little is known about which factors influence online game players' behavioral intentions to play continuously in this area. This study investigates major factors which influence the acceptance of online game services based on the theoretical backgrounds of the technology acceptance model(TAM) and the flow theory. This paper extended the Davis' TAM model by including the flow concept as another major factor toward the intention to play online game. Based on data collected from online questionnaire survey, we show that the proposed model provides an adequate fit to the data, and that the flow experience is another important factor influencing the intention to play online game, as well as the perceived ease of use.

  • A serious game is to design for not amusement but special aim. It can be defined of the game which have various useful aspects. It is a different game which exists important the proper function through interactive action compared to general games. English education games have a goal which is the English Study in addition to amusement. It's important one which is to have an immersiveness to be accomplished studying through games for users. In this paper, an effective analysis and design method of serious game using UML, that is Objected Oriented Analysis and Design Method, and Storyboard to develop a serious game "Guessing correctly english words over playing joyfully" is presented.

  • In this study of effective game localization, we attempt to gauge the influence of characteristics on the translation of the texts in games. In general, the characters in the games that feature interactive story-telling structure have a huge impact on events that occur in the games. Additionally, in case the origin of the characters are closely connected with either cultural factors or symbolisms, the relation between characters and stories tends to be stronger. In this research, the characteristics of the characters in the game 'Lobotomy Corporation' - featuring characteristics based on 'The Tree of Sepiroth' of Kabbalah - will be analyzed in depth; then, the result will lead us to suggest the method of proper translation in order to show how to localize the games effectively in future.

  • In this paper, we implemented online real time strategy game using hand as the mouse in augmented reality. Also, we introduced the algorithm for detecting hand direction, finding fingertip of the index finger and counting the number of fingers for interaction between users and the virtual objects. The proposed method increases the reality of the game by combining the real world and the virtual objects. Retinex algorithm is used to remove the effect of illumination change. The implementation of the virtual reality in the online environment enables to extend the applicability of the proposed method to the areas such as online education, remote medical treatment, and mobile interactive games.
