This study aims to examine how old people think about 'dignifiable aging'. For the study, the authors have tried to understand and analyze of old people's view on 'classy and gracious aging' through their life experiences. The study focuses on the questions of 'how the participants experience aging', 'how they understand well, classy and successful aging and 'how they explain their ideas of the aging, then analyzes their ideas as types of 'within cases' as well as 'inter cases'. Indepth interview has employed as main methodology of data collection with the analysis of concerned written documents such as on-line and off-line essays as secondary data. The collected data had been basically sorted and analyzed by sorting commonimity and differences. Then they have been classified into the thems that indicate meanings and forms of 'dignified aging': 'ageless mind', 'happiness determined by one's mind', 'responsibility on family', 'desire for learning and social activities'. These meaning-units are added up to the main meaning of '(fullfilled) satisfaction through life-values' mediated by 'acceptance and acknowledgement', 'efforts', 'others' gaze', 'dreams and hopes', '(fullfilled) Satisfaction through life-values' can be achieved by 'sharing with others'. An interesting fact is that the meaning-units can be devided into two groups: 'the real life is the ideal life' which explains the actualization of the ideal in the daily life and 'life, conflict, the ideal' in which the real and the ideal are parellel with constant conflicts. In the conclusion, some implications and suggestions derived from the analysis are described from the v iew of social welfare.

This paper identifies current status and key determinants of participation in multimedia UCC as a web2.0 paradigm. Significant factors composed of IT digital convergence environments and young generation's value, attitude to connecting to web (human relation, visual expressionism, arousal, et al). This paper analyze multimedia UCC service status & current status of participation level of UCC users. The research implemented to analysis customer click streaming data (inter-temporary page-view, unique user)of small-mid multimedia UCC Company and to 2nd data(ww.rankey.com) for page-view and unique user to participation tendency by age and sex about total participation amount of multimedia UCC. In case of young generation be familiar with new internet service, Internet web space meaning important information seeking media and 1 person media able to connect to new web network as prosumer. In UCC centered internet business, web based customers implemented the role of prosumer as generate web contents and consuming to net-working.

The European expansion in the later middle age, as Adam Smith stated, influenced greatly on development of the world history. In the various events of the European expansion the discovery of the New World by Christopher Columbus is very important because the effect of the discovery of the New World have still continued to the present. I have interested to find out the reason why the western civilization has seized on the hegemony of the world over other civilizations. As many scholars pointed out, the most distinguished difference between the western civilization and other civilizations is that the western civilization was maritime-oriented, while other civilization were continental-oriented. So I set up the maritime histoy on the theme of my study in order to ruminate upon meaning of the se-power that is one of the motivating forces to drive histoy. Maritime history is not simply about that is maritime affairs, but a branch of history that inquires into inter-relations between maritime affairs and inland affairs. Maritime history constitutes of history of naval war, history of shipping and history of marine development. As above reasons, I have interested the European expansion in the later middle age that maritime activity was the most vigorous in the history. This is a case study to compose maritime history.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the spatiotemporal cortical activation pattern and functional connectivity during visual perception of words. 61 channel recordings of electroencephalogram were obtained from 15 subjects while they were judging the meaning of Korean, English, and Chinese words with concrete meanings. We examined event-related potentials (ERP) and applied independent component analysis (ICA) to find and separate simultaneously activated neural sources. Spectral analysis was also performed to investigate the gamma-band activity (GBA, 30-50 Hz) which is known to reflect feature binding. Five significant ERP components were identified and left hemispheric dominance was observed for most sites. Meaningful differences of amplitudes and latencies among languages were observed. It seemed that familiarity with each language and orthographic characteristics affected the characteristics of ERP components. ICA helped confirm several prominent sources corresponding to some ERP components. The results of spectral and time-frequency analyses showed distinct GBAs at prefrontal, frontal, and temporal sites. The GBAs at prefrontal and temporal sites were significantly correlated with the LPC amplitude and response time. The differences in spatiotemporal patterns of GBA among languages were not prominent compared to the inter-individual differences. The gamma-band coherence revealed short-range connectivity within frontal region and long-range connectivity between frontal, posterior, and temporal sites.

This article's purpose is to overcome the inadequacy of deliberative democracy for communication on the basis of Haewonsangsaeng. The inadequacy of deliberative democracy for communication is presented as the following two. First, as deliberative democracy treats civic virtue as instrumental thing, deliberative democracy is still in moral solipsism. Second, as deliberative democracy doesn't consider 'the inequality of power' among diverse political positions, the project of deliberative democracy for communication ends up in the exposure of the inequality of power among diverse political positions. Sangsaeng in Haewonsangsaeng concerned with inter-relationship over individualism treats civic virtue as original motility. In this context, Sangsaeng in Haewonsangsaeng is the alternative notion to overcome the first inadequacy of deliberative democracy for communication. Haewon in Haewonsangsaengas is the condition for Sangsaeng. and Haewon's method is to exclude or to eliminate the structural frame of Sanggeuk meaning mutual conflict and antagonism. This article presents two structural frame of Sanggeuk. First, First structural obstacle as internal obstacle is suggested through analyzing pluralism on the basis of existential philosophy. The result of the analysis is the 'antagonism' between the hegemonical value and the peripheral value. Second structural obstacle as external obstacle is the extinction of public sphere caused by the growth of market and the expansion of bureaucracy.

This paper attempts to look at how the question of cultural identity can be discussed in terms of which "a family of the minds" as a unit can be given meaningful form of interpretation. I found its real possibility in the James family, especially in Henry James Senior, William James, and Henry James Junior since they represent important cultural context reflecting their European relationship in terms of American cultural consciousness. This research is divided in two parts; the first part of this study consisted of the elder James's role as a source of moral aesthetic consciousness for the two children, the second part consisted of showing different aspects of inter-relationships between father and sons and between brothers in the process of identity construction. I examine different aspects of the identity formation process of William James and Henry James Junior by arguing different ways of making relationship with their father's philosophy to illuminate how they reflect and represent American cultural consciousness, and to define the meaning of the Jamesian mind in American cultural history.

Being digitalized, the music can be easily purchased and delivered to the users. However, there is still some difficulty to find the music which fits to someone's taste using traditional music information search based on musician, genre, tittle, album title and so on. In order to reduce the difficulty, the contents-based or the emotion-based music retrieval has been proposed and developed. In this paper, we propose new method to determine the importance of MPEG-7 low-level audio descriptors which are multi-dimensional vectors for the emotion-based music retrieval. We measured the mutual similarities of musics which represent a pair of emotions expressed by opposite meaning in terms of each multi-dimensional descriptor. Then rough approximation, and inter- and intra similarity ratio from the similarity relation are used for determining the importance of a descriptor, respectively. The set of weights based on the importance decides the aggregated similarity measure, by which emotion-based music retrieval can be achieved. The proposed method shows better result than previous method in terms of the average number of satisfactory musics in the experiment emotion-based retrieval based on content-based search.

Objective : This study aims to obtain the validation of Korean version of HOME FAST using the translation-back translation process and to evaluate the reliability. Methods : Total three stages were conducted which includes forward translation to Korean, test for degree of understanding of translated version, back translation to English, and then review and proof reading process. 21 occupational therapists were participated in the evaluation of understanding of Korean-translated HOME FAST, then some of expressions were modified for better understanding. Korean version was went through back-translation to English. Similarity between the original version and re-translated version were evaluated. Total 75 data from community dwelling elderly group were collected to assess internal consistency. Two occupational therapists simultaneously evaluated for the inter-rater reliability. Results : 11 items of Korean-translated scale were responded as having confused meaning by occupational therapists. There was some modification on expression. In the evaluation of similarity between original version and re-translated version, 3 items were selected as dissimilar items in terms of syntax and 6 items were selected in terms of semantic similarity. After the repetitive modification process, items were obtained conceptual equivalence between two different languages. Internal consistency was .62(KR20) (p<.01) and inter-rater reliability was .97(ICC) (p<.01). Conclusion : Korean version of HOME FAST was finalized through translation-retranslation process. The conceptual equivalence was established and Korean version showed highly reliable. In further study, The modification of items reflecting Korean house and life style should be conducted.

Purpose: This study is aimed at understanding the volunteers' experiences and interactions with their corresponding teams during their participation in hospice care. More specifically, the study is to contribute policy-wise to development of hospice care in Korea by helping policy-makers and organizers and managers of hospice care provides better understand the importance of the meaning and roles of volunteers in hospice care. Methods: In-depth interviews and participant observation were performed with study participants who were selected from four different types of hospice agencies. Study analysis was conducted using "case study" as one of the rigorous qualitative research methods to develop "inter-" and "intra-" comparisons among the study participants. Results: Volunteers in hospice care were initially motivated by religion and faith, and the motivation grew stronger through the volunteer experiences. They emphasized that the essence of the hospice volunteering was motivation from religion and faith and something they do for themselves. They characterized their experience as a true service that is offered for free and a job that requires expertise. In addition, they achieved personal (internal) growth by reflecting on the meaning of "good death" and better understood the importance of respecting spiritual diversity. Conclusions: This study could help hospice officials offers better understand hospice volunteers' role and their importance. The study also provide practical implications and policy suggestions.

This study examines the multi-functionality of the cultural facilities and explores the architectural characteristics of cultural facilities in city environment. For this purpose, 1 examine the major cultural facilities in USA and Singapore. Recently, the inter-cultural communication methods have been diversified and the cultural facilities need to be designed to effectively accommodate the public's interests in these activities. It is also necessary to reexamine cultural facilities' functions in terms of how the multi-functionality facilities reflect the surrounding environment. This study also sheds a new light on the meaning of the relationships between cultural activity, and the cultural facility design. For this, I primarily look at the various design categories of cultural buildings and their main functions. Finally, I demonstrate how both cultural activity and cultural facility design elements are embodied in the city environment.
