Natural killer (NK) cells play a pivotal role in early surveillance against virus infection and cellular transformation, and are also implicated in the control of inflammatory response through their effector functions of direct lysis of target cells and cytokine secretion. NK cell activation toward target cell is determined by the net balance of signals transmitted from diverse activating and inhibitory receptors. A distinct feature of NK cell activation is that stimulation of resting NK cells with single activating receptor on its own cannot mount natural cytotoxicity. Instead, specific pairs of co-activation receptors are required to unleash NK cell activation via synergy- dependent mechanism. Because each co-activation receptor uses distinct signaling modules, NK cell synergy relies on the integration of such disparate signals. This explains why the study of the mechanism underlying NK cell synergy is important and necessary. Recent studies revealed that NK cell synergy depends on the integration of complementary signals converged at a critical checkpoint element but not on simple amplification of the individual signaling to overcome intrinsic activation threshold. This review focuses on the signaling events during NK cells activation and recent advances in the study of NK cell synergy.
A Cre/loxP-${\delta}$-integration system was developed to allow sequential and simultaneous integration of a multiple gene expression cassette in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. To allow repeated integrations, the reusable Candida glabrata MARKER (CgMARKER) carrying loxP sequences was used, and the integrated CgMARKER was efficiently removed by inducing Cre recombinase. The XYLP and XYLB genes encoding endoxylanase and ${\beta}$-xylosidase, respectively, were used as model genes for xylan metabolism in this system, and the copy number of these genes was increased to 15.8 and 16.9 copies/cell, respectively, by repeated integration. This integration system is a promising approach for the easy construction of yeast strains with enhanced metabolic pathways through multicopy gene expression.

Meshless methods, developed in various ways over the past decade, have been attractive as new computational methods in that they do not need mesh generation in analyzing procedure. But most of these methods were not truly meshless methods because background meshes were required for the spatial integration of a weak form. Accordingly, in this paper, nodal integration for truly meshless methods has been studied, and an improvement scheme is proposed. To improve stabilization and accuracy, which are the weak points in previous nodal integration methods, the integration area is transformed to circle and then numerically integrated. This method does not need any adding term for stabilization in the variational formulation and then simplifies the integration procedure. Numerical test results show that the proposed method is more accurate, stable, and reasonable than the existed nodal integration methods.

Most diagnosis approaches rely on historical failure data that might not be feasible in real operating conditions because the battery voltage and internal parameters are nonlinear according to various operating conditions, such as cell-to-cell configuration and initial condition. To overcome this issue, the estimator and the predictor require integrated approaches that consider comprehensive data, with the degradation process and measured data taken into account. In this paper, vector autoregressive models (VAR) with various parameters that affect overdischarge to the cell in the battery pack were constructed, and the cell-to-cell parameters were identified using an adaptive model to analyze the influence of failure prognosis. The theoretical analysis is validated using experimental results in terms of the feasibility and advantages of fault prognosis.

Nano-scale p-n junction can generate various nano-scale functional devices such as nanowire light emitting diode, nanowire solar cell, and nanowire sensor. The core shell type nanowire p-n junction has been considered for the high efficient devices in many previous reports. On the other hand, although device efficiency is relatively lower, the cross bar type p-n junction has simple topological structure, suggested by C.M. Lieber group, to integrate easily many p-n junction devices in one board. In this study, for the integration of the cross bar nanowire p-n junction device, a simple fabrication route, employed dielectrophoretic array and direct printing techniques, was demonstrated by the successful fabrication and programmable integration of the nanowire cross bar p-n junction solar cell. This direct printing process will give the single nanowire solar cell the opportunity of the integration on the circuit board with other nanowire functional devices.

This study was on electrode design for the realization of a solar cell that combines electrode formation and module integration process to overcome printing limitations. We used the passivated emitter rear contact (PERC) solar cell. Wafer size was 156.75 mm ×156.75 mm. The fabricated cell results showed that the open-circuit voltage of 649 mV, short-circuit current density of 36.15 mA/cm2, fill factor of 68.5%, and efficiency of 16.06% with electrode conditions the 24BBs with the width 190 ㎛ and 90FBs with the width 45 ㎛. For improving efficiency, the characteristics of the solar cell were checked according to the change in the number of BBs and FBs and the change in line fine width. It is confirmed that the efficiency of the solar cell will be improved by increasing the number of FBs from 90 to 120, and increasing the line width of the FBs by about 10 ㎛ compared to the manufacturing solar cells.

Solid oxide fuel cell operate at high temperature ($800{\sim}1000^{\circ}C$). High temperature have an advantage of system efficiency, but a weak durability. In this study, linear state space controller is designed to handle the temperature of solid oxide fuel cell system for proper thermal management. System model is developed under simulink environment with Thermolib$^{(R)}$. Since the thermally optimal system integration improves efficiency, very complicated thermal integration approach is selected for system integration. It shows that temperature response of fuel cell stack and catalytic burner are operated at severe non-linearity. To control non-linear temperature response of SOFC system, gain scheduled linear quadratic regulator is designed. Results shows that the temperature response of stack and catalytic burner follows the command over whole ranges of operations.
Background : The most frequently reported risk factors for head and neck suamous cell carcinoma are smoking and alcohol. But in a recent overview, human papilloma virus(HPV) infection was revealed the important carcinogenic factor in oropharyngeal cancer. We aimed to clarify whether HPV directly effects on the oncogenesis and biologic behavior of hean and neck squamous cell carcinoma by comparison with infection prevalence, and physical status of virus. Material and Method : We used HPV genotyping DNA chip(Biocore, Korea, Seoul) arrayed by multiple oligonucleotide probes of L1 sequence of 26 types of HPV and HPV genotypes are identified by fluorescence scanner. The copy numbers of HPV E2 and E6 open reading frames(ORF) were assessed using a TaqMan-based 5'-exonuclease quantitative real-time PCR assay. The ratio of E2 to E6 copy numbers was calculated to determine the physical status of HPV-16 viral gene. Results : We observed a significant difference in HPV prevalence between tonsillar cancer group and control group(73.1% vs. 11.6%), and most of the HPVs were type 16(87.2%) and integrated(94.1%) state. In terms of oral tongue cancer, we demonstrate that 30.5% has integrated HPV-16 in cancer tissue. But Glottic cancer only 1% is related to HPV-16 integration. Conclusion : This study revealed significant relationship of HPV prevalence with oropharyngeal and oral tongue squamous cell carcinoma. Most of HPV were 16 type and integrated or mixed, HPV-16 integration could be directly related to the carcinogenesis.

The robust stack storage node and sufficient cell capacitance for high performance is indispensable for 90 nm DRAM capacitor. For the first time, we successfully demonstrated MIS capacitor process integration for 90 nm DRAM technology. Novel cell layout and integration technology of 90 nm DRAM capacitor is proposed and developed, and it can be extended to the next generation DRAM. Diamond-shaped OCS with 1.8 um stack height is newly developed for large capacitor area with better stability. Furthermore, the novel $Al_2O_3/HfO_2$ dielectric material with equivalent oxide thickness (EOT) of 25 ${\AA}$ is adopted for obtaining sufficient cell capacitance. The reliable cell capacitance and leakage current of MIS capacitor is obtained with ~26 fF/cell and < 1 fA/ceil by $Al_2O_3/HfO_2$ dielectric material, respectively.
Multicopy integration vector is a very useful vector system in that they can be integrated into chromosomal DNA in several copies and stably maintained under non-selective conditions. To develop a multicopy integration vector system in the yeast Yarrowia lipolytica, P-type ribosomal DNA was cloned from Y lipolytica. A HindIII-BglII fragment of the cloned rDNA and a promoterless URA3 gene were inserted into pGEM1, generating multicopy integration vectors, pMIYL-1 and pMIYL-2. The rDNA fragment is for targeted homologous recombination between the vector and the chromosomal DNA of Y. lipolytica, and the promoterless URA3 gene is a defective selection marker for inducing multicopy integration. pMIYL-1 and pMIYL-2 have an unique restriction enzyme site, KpnI, and two unique restriction enzyme sites, KpnI and EcoRI, repectively, which can be used for targeting of the vectors into the rDNA of Y. lipolytica chromosomal DNA. After transformation of the vectors into Y. lipolytica, copy number and stability were analyzed by Southern hybridization. The vectors were found to be present in less than 5 copies per cell and were stably maintained during growth in non-selective media.
