  • This research proposes the importance of physical environment if integrated early childhood education. For a successful integration of children's education, we processed fundamental research on requirements of facility and equipments, looking at related standards and code on handicapped person's convenience facility. Also, this research alms at providing first step to establish evaluation method and quality assurance standards of integrated child care facility, regarding space planning of handicapped children. By examining home and abroad material and analyzing handicapped children's convenience facility standards, this research pursues improving the basis of planning criteria. As present criteria of relevant regulations appears not to handle detailed facility standards, and the handicapped people's facility is for childhood education, it is necessary first to differentiate indispensable equipments from optional one, then categorize them into more specific needs.

  • This paper is to develop a quality measure to evaluate the quality level of child care service in the regional level. By utilizing the biannual intensive child care statistical reports, ten variables are integrated and summarized as a quality measure for child care service in regional level by employing Principal Component Analysis (PCA). Conclusively, it is possible to get a comprehensive measure and the measure obtained from data between 2003 and 2008 illustrates the difference in child care service quality among regions over years. With the measure developed by this research, each region can also get very good insight into what kinds of factors of child care service should be paid more attention to in order to improve the quality of its child care service. Moreover, the measure obtained in this paper is proven reliable and robust in that it reflects the quality of child care service in each region and gives us statistically uniform quality scores with a different data set.

  • Purpose: This study was done to analyze the effectiveness of simulation-based integrated practice program (maternal-child) on nursing knowledge, self-confidence, and clinical competence of nursing students. Methods: A nonequivalent control group pre-post experimental design was used to compare experimental and control group. The experimental group received the integrated simulation practice and the control group received a separate simulation for maternal care and for newborn care. Results: The experimental group who had the integrated simulation had significantly higher scores for self-efficacy on nursing handover (F=0.480 p=.012) and oxygen therapy in newborn care (F=3.262 p=.037), and for clinical competence (F=2.639, p<.001) and personal satisfaction with debriefing compared to the control group (F=2.179, p=.044). But the experimental group did not have significantly higher scores in nursing knowledge. Conclusions The results indicate that an integrated simulation practice is an effective practice method to improve self-confidence, clinical competence and satisfaction. Also this study had significance in providing a setting similar to the clinical situation.

  • Child is a being and provides the genetic continuity of parents and society, and therefore the fitness of these children for survival, growth and development towards reproduction, is of significance to parents and society. The aim of health care for high-risk children is not only to minimize or eliminate health problems, but also to optimize their fitness. Considering that the health care of children is influenced by available resources of parents and society, and sociocultural values and paradigms in a given environment of evolutionary adaptedness (EEA), child health care professionals need to understand factors affecting the optimal fitness of children with risks. This paper introduces a new integrated theory for health care in high-risk children, entitled, Health for Optimal Fitness of High-Risk Children. Five main components were identified with associate concepts or midrange theories affecting heath for optimal fitness of high-risk children; EEA, optimal fitness, health problems, investment resources, and anthropological values. It may provide an integrated perspective on health of high-risk children in both the proximately biomedical approach and ultimately evolutionary approach as optimizing their fitness. Further study is needed to develop substantial statements between components with existential examples.

  • Early Head Start (EHS) can provide services to a child and family from pre-birth until the child is three years old. Services are comprehensive, intensive, individualized and flexible according to child and family needs, and integrated with community service delivery systems. The local program designs and operations were developed and carried out within the framework of the Head Start Revised Performance Standards, which included specific provisions for services to pregnant women, infants and toddlers and emphasized prevention, early intervention, safety, and health education. As with preschool Head Start, EHS programs are required to make available 10 percent of their enrollment for infants and toddlers with disabilities as defined by Part C regulations of the state in which the program operated. Quality child care has become a priority for EHS. A majority of EHS children need child care, and the quality is important to their development. An evaluation of EHS in 17 programs selected from the first program cohorts showed that the program had significant and positive impacts on a wide range of parent and child dimensions, some with implications for children's later school success. Among the issues for policy attention identified by American EHS for the Korean system are: - The need to create a comprehensive infant/toddler care system - The need to address access of teachers for young children - The need to improve quality.

  • This study examined the effect of visual art appreciation integrated with expression(integrated art appreciation) upon young children's drawing expression. The pretest-posttest control group design was chosen for the study. Twenty kindergarten children assigned to the experimental group were exposed to a program of integrated appreciation activity for 10 sessions. Another group of 20 kindergarten children were assigned to the control group taught by the traditional art teaching methods. Analysis of Covariance was applied for data analysis. Children in the experimental group showed higher scores in such drawing expressions as line, color, shape, composition, and theme.
