  • This paper presents a new method to compensate the non-linearity for matrix converter drives using PQR instantaneous Power theory. The non-linearity of matrix converter drives such as commutation delay, turn-on and turn-off time of switching device, and on-state switching device voltage drop is modelled by PQR power theory and compensated using a reference current control scheme. The proposed method does not need any additional hardware and off-line experimental measurements. The proposed compensation method is applied for high performance induction motor drives using a 3 kW matrix converter system without a speed sensor. Simulation and experimental results show the proposed method using PQR power theory Provides good compensating characteristic.

  • Robots are required to assist our activities in daily life. In this paper, we focus on arm movement to catch moving object as one of important tasks frequently performed by human. We propose an algorithm which enables a robot to perform human-like arm motion to catch a moving object. First we analyze human hand trajectories and velocity profiles to catch an object. From the experimental results, we extract some characteristics in the process of approaching and following a moving object and confirm that these are necessary to realize human-like motion. We then adopt an instantaneous optimal control method which evaluates the error and energy cost at each sampling step, and design two time-varying weight matrices to introduce human characteristic into robot motion. The matrix concerning the error is defined as a time-increasing ...

  • We study the evolution of the energy spectrum of cosmic-ray electrons accelerated at spherically expanding shocks with low Mach numbers and the ensuing spectral signatures imprinted in radio synchrotron emission. Time-dependent simulations of diffusive shock acceleration (DSA) of electrons in the test-particle limit have been performed for spherical shocks with parameters relevant for typical shocks in the intracluster medium. The electron and radiation spectra at the shock location can be described properly by the test-particle DSA predictions with instantaneous shock parameters. However, the volume integrated spectra of both electrons and radiation deviate significantly from the test-particle power-laws, because the shock compression ratio and the flux of injected electrons at the shock gradually decrease as the shock slows down in time. So one needs to be cautious about interpreting observed radio spectra of evolving shocks based on simple DSA models in the test-particle regime.

  • A new evaluation method for the performance tests of the frozen air in a refrigerator using PIV(Particle Imaging Velocimetry) and POD(Proper Orthogonal Decomposition) techniques is introduced. A two-door refrigerator model was tested for the experiments. Actual temperature measurements were carried out for the drawer No.4 in refrigerator. By evaluating the characteristics of the interior flow of the refrigerator, an optimal shape of the drawer could be suggested through the PIV evaluation test. In this research, in order to find influences the turbulent kinetic energy contribution associated with the dynamic structures, we executed a POD analysis using the method of snapshots and the instantaneous fluctuating velocity field.

  • Planar laser induced fluorescence(PLIF) has been widely used to obtain two dimensional fuel distribution. Preliminary investigation was performed to measure quantitative air excess ratio distribution in an engine fueled with LPG. It is known that fluorescence signal from acetone as a fluorescent tracer is less sensitive to oxygen quenching than other dopants. Acetone was excited by KrF excimer laser (248nm) and its fluorescence image was acquired by ICCD camera with a cut-of filter to suppress Mie scattering from the laser light. For the purpose of quantifying PLIF signal, an image processing method including the correction of laser sheet beam profile was suggested. Raw images were divided by each intensity of laser energy and profile of laser sheet beam. Inhomogeneous fluorescence images scaled with the reference data, which was taken by a calibration process, were converted to air excess ratio distribution. This investigation showed instantaneous quantitative measurement of planar air excess ratio distribution for gaseous fuel.

  • The snapshot method is introduced to approximate the coherent structures of planar jet flow. The numerical simulation of instantaneous flow field is analyzed by SIMPLE algorithm. An ensemble of realizations is collected using a sampling condition that corresponds to the passage of a large scale vortex at positions 4 and 6 diameters downstream from the nozzle. With snapshot mothod we could treat the data efficiently and approximate coherent structures inhered in the planar jet flow successfully 94% of total turbulent kinetic energy with 10 terms of Karhunen-Loeve expansions. Finally, In accordance with the recent trend to try to explain and model turbulence phenomena with the existence of coherent structures, in the present study, we express the underlying coherent structures of planar jet flow in the minimum number of modes by calculating Karhunen-Loeve expansions in order to improve to understanding of jet flow and to make the information storage and management in computers easier.

  • The purpose of the present experimental study is to apply multi-point simultaneous measurement by PIV(Particle Image Velocimetry) to high-speed flow region within a domestic boiler circulation pump. Two different kinds of flow rate($27{\ell}/min,\;19{\ell}/min$)are selected as experimental condition. A volute casing and Impeller made of transparent Polycarbonate were made for the easy access of the illumination laser via fiber optical line and cylinder lens assembly to the measuring region. A CCD camera is syncronized with AOM to acquire clear original particle images. Optimized cross correlation identification to obtain velocity vectors is implemented by direct calculation of correlation coefficients. The instantaneous and time-mean velocity distribution, velocity profile and kinetic energy are represented quantitatively at the full-scale region for the deeper understanding of the unsteady flow characteristics in a commercial circulation pump.

  • In this paper, we investigate physical layer security for multiple decode-and-forward (DF) relaying underlay cognitive radio networks (CRNs) with fixed transmit power at the secondary network against passive eavesdropping attacks. We propose a simple relay selection scheme to improve wireless transmission security based on the instantaneous channel information of all legitimate users and the statistical information about the eavesdropper channels. The closed-form expressions of the probability of non-zero secrecy capacity and the secrecy outage probability (SOP) are derived over independent and non-identically distributed Rayleigh fading environments. Furthermore, we conduct the asymptotic analysis to evaluate the secrecy diversity order performance and prove that full diversity is achieved by using the proposed relay selection. Finally, numerical results are presented to verify the theoretical analysis and depict that primary interference constrain has a significant impact on the secure performance and a proper transmit power for the second transmitters is preferred to be energy-efficient and improve the secure performance.

  • The single phase switched reluctance motor(SRM) is more simpler and robust in the structure than poly phase SRM. It has the merits that it reduces the switching elements and the energy density per volume is very high. Recently, it has been researched and developed in various types and starting method due to the technique of power electronics and the computer added design. This paper presents a analytical representation of the phase inductance of a single phase SRM, as function of position and current, taking into account the non-linearity of the magnetic circuit. the method is based on Fourier series expansion. Analytical expressions for the calculation of instantaneous phase inductance, flux linkage, coenergy and electromagnetic torque as a function of rotor position and winding currents are derived.

  • The flow structure behind circular and elliptical type rings embedded in a cross-flow was investigated experimentally using two-frame particle image velocimetry (PIV). The experiments were performed in a circulating water channel with a test section of 0.35m height ${\times}$ 0.3m width ${\times}$ 1.1m length. PIV measurements were carried out with varying the Reynolds number in the range of 4.5 ${\times}$ $10^2$ - 4.5 ${\times}$ $10^3$. In the present study, turbulent flow structures in the stream-wise direction and span-wise direction were investigated. The mean velocity field distribution was obtained by statistical-averaging instantaneous velocity fields. The spatial distributions of turbulent statistics such as turbulent intensities and turbulent kinetic energy were also investigated.
