  • An axisymmetric supersonic jet screech in the Mach number range from 1.07 to 1.2 is numerically simulated. The axisymmetric mode is the dominant screech mode for an axisymmetric jet. The Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations in the conjunction with modified Spalart-Allmaras turbulence model are employed. A high resolution finite volume essentially non-oscillatory(ENO) schemes are used along with nonreflecting characteristic boundary conditions that are crucial to screech tone computations to accurately capture the sound waves, shock-cell structures, unsteady shock motions and large-scale instability waves.

  • The present work is aimed at further discussing the effectiveness of dimensionless parameters recently proposed for the analysis of flow stability in heated channels with supercritical fluids. In this purpose, after presenting the main motivations for the introduction of these parameters in place of previously proposed ones, additional information on the theoretical bases and on the consequences of this development is provided. Stability maps, generated by an in-house program adapted from a previous application to boiling channels, are also shown for different combinations of the operating parameters. The maps are obtained as contour plots of an amplification parameter obtained from numerical discretization and subsequent linearization of governing equations; as such, they provide a quantitatively clear perspective of the effect of different boundary conditions on the stability of heated channels with supercritical fluids. In order to assess the validity of the assumptions at the basis of the in-house model, supporting calculations have been performed making use of the RELAP5/MOD3.3 computer code, detecting the values of the dimensionless parameters at the threshold for the occurrence of instability for a heated channel representative of SCWR proposed core configurations. The obtained results show reasonable agreement with the maps, supporting the applicability of the proposed scaling parameters for describing the dynamic behaviour of heated channels with supercritical fluids.

  • Graphene, $sp^2$-hybridized 2-Dimension carbon material, has drawn enormous attention due to its desirable performance of excellent properties. Graphene can be applied for many electronic devices such as field-effect transistors (FETs), touch screen, solar cells. Furthermore, indium tin oxide (ITO) is commercially used and sets the standard for transparent electrode. However, ITO has certain limitations, such as increasing cost due to indium scarcity, instability in acid and basic environments, high surface roughness and brittle. Due to those reasons, graphene will be a perfect substitute as a transparent electrode. We report the graphene synthesized by inductive coupled plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (ICP-PECVD) process on Cu substrate. The growth was carried out using low temperature at $400^{\circ}C$ rather than typical chemical vapor deposition (CVD) process at $1,000^{\circ}C$ The low-temperature process has advantage of low cost and also low melting point materials will be available to synthesize graphene as substrate, but the drawback is low quality. To improve the quality, the factor affect the quality of graphene was be investigated by changing the plasma power, the flow rate of precursors, the scenario of precursors. Then, graphene film's quality was investigated with Raman spectroscopy and sheet resistance and optical emission spectroscopy.

  • The hot deformation characteristics of pure molybdenum was investigated in the temperature range of $600{\sim}1200^{\circ}C$ and strain rate range of $0.01{\sim}10.0/s$ using a Gleeble test machine. The power dissipation map for hot working was developed on the basis of the Dynamic Materials Model. According to the map, dynamic recrystallization (DRX) occurs in the temperature range of $1000{\sim}1100^{\circ}C$ and the strain rate range of $0.01{\sim}10.0/s$, which are the optimum conditions for hot working of this material. The average grain size after DRX is $5{\mu}m$. The material undergoes flow instabilities at temperatures of $900{\sim}1200^{\circ}C$ and the strain rates of $0.01{\sim}10.0/s$, as calculated by the continuum instability criterion.

  • This study presents the design of digital amplifier.controller for a proportional control valve and the development of PID discrete control scheme by using RCP(Rapid Controller Prototyping) system. RCP system is the device to embed the control code developed in PC into the microcontroller on-site. Ramp input test using the digital amplifier.controller developed in this study was carried out for the proportional control valve of domestic production and Bosch Rexroth respectively. The instability problem occurred around maximum displacement of localized valve spool at ramp input test was solved by supplementing offset current to the duty ratio of PWM(Pulse Width Modulation) driving signal to the solenoid. The comparison of test results between localized proportional control valve and Bosch Rexroth's product shows that the characteristics obtained by ramp input test and static flow gains are alike each other. Two valves are about the same in dead bands and hysteresis characteristics.

  • The current study has developed an in-house 3D FEM code in order to model thermoacoustic problems in an annular system and compared the acoustic field calculation results with measured ones from a benchmark combustor. From the comparison of calculation results with the measured data, the current acoustic code could successfully capture the various acoustic mode found in the annular system. In addition, it was found that the transverse waves in the combustor were strongly affected by the nozzle acoustic impedances, as well, the pressure distributions were closely related with the combustor acoustic pressure field.

  • An edge tone is the discrete tone or narrow-band sound produced by an oscillating free shear layer impinging on a rigid surface. In this paper we present a two-dimensional edge tone to predict the frequency characteristics of the discrete oscillations of a jet-edge feedback cycle by the finite difference lattice Boltzmann method. We use a new lattice BGK compressible fluid model that has an additional term and allow larger time increment comparing a conventional FDLB model, and also use a boundary fitted coordinates. The jet is chosen long enough in order to guarantee the parabolic velocity profile of the jet at the outlet, and the edge consists of a wedge with an angle of ${\alpha}=23^{\circ}$ . At a stand-off distance ${\omega}$ , the edge is inserted along the centreline of the jet, and a sinuous instability wave with real frequency f is assumed to be created in the vicinity of the nozzle and to propagate towards the downstream. We have succeeded in capturing very small pressure fluctuations result from periodically oscillation of jet around the edge. That pressure fluctuations propagate with the sound speed. Its interaction with the wedge produces an irrotational feedback field which, near the nozzle exit, is a periodic transverse flow producing the singularities at the nozzle lips.

  • The effectiveness of a pogo suppression device (PSD) on the response of piping system simulating the propellant supply lines of the rocket engines was investigated experimentally by other researchers. In this study, the simplified analytical model was made, and the key parameters which are difficult to derive theoretically were identified in combination with the previous experimental work. In other words, the flow transient equations for a PSD system and the key parameters used to decide the instability of the system from the linearized transfer function including inertance, compliance, and resistance were derived. From the analysis, the values of key parameters could be determined from the experimental results.
