Optimal pretreatment processes for metal plating on engineering plastics, especially on Nylon-inorganic filler alloy was studied. For Nylon-inorganic filler alloy, adhesion strength between resin surface and metal could be improved by just etching process that eliminate amorphous layer. In the SEM picture and surface roughness measurement, etching treatment was found to make enabled the surface condition very rough and the adhesion strength good. It was also found that the surface condition of plated article and its adhesion strength partly depended upon molding condition of Nylon-inorganic filler alloy. EDS, peaks showed that what kinds of and how much of the metal elements remained on the resin surface after pretreatment processes. Cr did not affect on adsorption of Sn and Pd remarkably.
EPDM compounds and vulcanizates containing inorganic filler such as talc, calcium carbonate, or clay as well as carbon black were prepared, and the influence of inorganic filler on properties of the EPDM compounds and vulcanizates were investigated. The bound rubber contents did not significantly increase even though the inorganic filler was added. There were big aggregates in the EPDM samples with high loading inorganic filler. By adding the inorganic filler, the cure times tended to increase and the delta torque decreased. The modulus were on the whole decreased, whereas the elongation at break, tensile strength, and tear strength were increased by adding the inorganic filler. The decreased modulus and increased elongation at break can be explained with the decreased delta torque, the increases of tensile strength and tear strength can be explained with the increased elongation at break. By adding the inorganic filler, level of reinforcing in the EPDM compounds did not increase and the crosslink density decreased.
The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of rubber-filler attachments on inorganic filler contained NR vulcanizatic. The results of this study showed as follows. The reinforcing properties and damping values of the vulcanizates in the elastic region showed strong relation with the filler characteristics and temperture. The vulcanizates filled with nature-activated inorganic filler like silica had higer elastic modulus and damping values than the vulcanizates of nature-nonactivated inorganic filter. The reinforcing effects of differential filler loadings on NR raised the effects with temperature rise, but the damping values varied with the filler characteristics and temperature variations.
In this study, the effects of filler particle size and shape on the physical properties of silicone rubber composites were investigated using inorganic fillers (Minusil 5, Celite 219, and Nyad 400) except silica, which was already present as a reinforcing filler of silicone rubber. Fillers with small particle sizes are known to facilitate the formation of the bound rubber by increasing the contact area with the polymer. However, in this experiment, the bound rubber content of Celite 219-added silicone composite was higher than that of Minusil 5-added silicone composite. This was attributed to the porous structure of Celite 219, which led to an increase in the internal surface area of the filler. When the inorganic fillers were added, both thermal decomposition temperature and thermal stability were improved. The bound rubber formed between the silicone rubber and inorganic filler affected the degree of crosslinking of the silicone composite. It is well-known that as the size of the reinforcing filler decreases, the reinforcing effect increases. However, in this experiment, the hardness of the composite material filled with Celite 219 was the highest compared to the other three composites. Furthermore, the highest value of 2.19 MPa was observed for 100% modulus, and the fracture elongation was the lowest at 469%. This was a result of excellent interaction between Celite 219 filler and silicone rubber.

In this study, we investigated the possible use of a new inorganic material as alternative filler in the paper industry. The inorganic material is a mineral composed of calcium sulfate, that is generated when manufacturing phosphate fertilizer. The inorganic material was dehydrated by the thermal treatment to $200^{\circ}C$, $500^{\circ}C$, $700^{\circ}C$, and $900^{\circ}C$ to prepare white filler powders. Their basic properties, including color, particle shape, elements, and average particle size were identified. To determine the effect of new inorganic filler on paper's physical properties and strength, handsheets were prepared from HwBKP, SwBKP, and thermal treated inorganic fillers. Handsheets' ISO brightness, opacity, bulk, breaking length, and stiffness were measured. Results confirmed that thermal treated inorganic filler could be beneficial to the bulk and opacity of paper while maintaining higher level of breaking length and stiffness that is achieved using talc.
To manufacture of high-performance semi-structural double-sided adhesive tape, 2-ethylhexyl acrylate (2-EHA) and acrylic acid (AAC) were used, and the syrup was prepared by UV irradiation in this study. The effects of the thickness, various inorganic filler contents, and filler types on the semi-structural properties of acrylic double-sided adhesive tape were investigated. The peel strength increased with increasing thickness and wetting time. In case of the thin thickness (under $250{\mu}m$) with decreasing true density of inorganic filler, the peel strength increased with increasing wetting time. The initial peel strength showed a higher value at a big size of inorganic filler, and the filler's size in adhesive tapes was confirmed by SEM images. The peel strength and dynamic shear strength increased as a proportional relationship with various inorganic fillers and contents, and these inorganic fillers in $0.1{\mu}m$ thickness indicated more effect on the dynamic shear strength of double-sided adhesive tape. From these results the thin acrylic double-sided adhesive tape determined to be use for applications as a high-performance semi-structural.

Suitable compositions which are sinterable at low temperature in the $BaO-B_{2}O_{3}-ZnO$ glass system were investigated as a function of the ratio between BaO and ZnO. The effect of $Al_{2}O_3$ filler on densification and physical characteristics of the glass was also examined. When the amount of $Al_{2}O_3$ filler increased, the densification rate and the values of dielectric constant, thermal expansion coefficient and hardness in the glass-filler composites decreased gradually. The decreasing rate of the physical properties accelerated when fine $Al_{2}O_3$ filler was used. However, the fracture toughness of the composite rather increased due to the existence of filler particles and pores which effectively suppressed crack propagation with addition of fine $Al_{2}O_3$ filler.

The sintering behavior of $BaO-B_{2}O_{3}-ZnO$, which is Pb-free glass-ceramic system, was examined as functions of the composition and the amount and particle size of $Al_{2}O_{3}$ filler. Different kinds of modifiers were added and $Al_{2}O_{3}$ fillers with different particle sizes ($1.5{\mu}m$ and $4.5{\mu}m$) were added. The glass frit-filler composites were sintered in the temperature range $520{\sim}580^{\circ}C$. X-ray diffraction results revealed that some of the composites crystallized during sintering. Dielectric constant and thermal expansion coefficient the glass-ceramics were analyzed.
The physical properties of polymeric foams depend on the density of foams, physical properties of base polymers, the content of open cells, and cell structures including the size and its distribution, the shape of cell, and the thickness of skin layer. The foam density is affected by the chemistry of raw materials, the concentration of crosslinking agent and the blowing agent as well as the operating parameters during production process. In this study, the basic formulations of foams are composed of polyester polyol, MDI, amine catalyst, tin catalyst, silicone surfactant, and water. Cross-linking density of polyurethane was increased by using chain extenders. Also, the mechanical properties of polyurethane foam were improved by using the inorganic fillers (silica 1,2 and talc 1,2) having different $SiO_2$ contents and particle sizes. We investigated the properties of modulus, tensile strength, compressive strength and hardness of foams obtained by changing kind of inorganic filler and chain extender, and observed the distribution of inorganic filler as well as variation of cell size within the foams by electron microscopy.
