  • Recently, organic-inorganic nanocomposites have attracted great interest from researchers since they frequently exhibit unexpected hybrid properties synergistically derived from two components[1]. The addition of highly dispersed inorganic nano-sized fillers permits improvement of certain properties of polymers as compared with conventional particulate composites; increase of modulus and strength, improved barrier properties, increase in solvent and heat resistance, and good optical properties[2]. • Cadmium sulphide (CdS) nanorods were prepared by a single precursor thermal decomposition (SPTD) method. The formation of CdS nanorods and their structure, morphology and elemental composition were studied by means of FT-IR, XRD, FE-SEM, HR-TEM and EDAX analysis. Photoluminescence (PL) and lifetime measurements were recorded to study the luminescence properties of the material. The PL spectrum of the CdS nanorods showed one broad peak and four shoulders and the cause for this emission was discussed. The PL emissions from the band edge and deep trap state of the CdS nanorods were studied by lifetime measurements. Further, the synthesized CdS nanorods showed an increase in efficiency of photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue (MB) and rhodamine B (RhB). The increase in the photocatalytic activity was attributed to the mixed phase of the CdS nanorods.

  • This study focused on the matrix interference for the qualitative and quantitative analysis of inorganic arsenic species in seaweed by ion chromatography (IC) combined with inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectroscopy (ICP-AES). The matrix of seaweed has a significant effect on the determination of inorganic arsenic species. In particular, the retention times of inorganic arsenic species in the in the standard solution were different from those in seaweed because of the matrix interference. Thus, it was not suitable to use the chromatographic method for the determination of the arsenic species in seaweed. We investigated an alternative method for the determination of inorganic arsenic species in seaweed. The method was applied for the seaweed samples such as laver, green laver, sea tangle and sea mustard. The sample extraction methods of the arsenic species were also investigated in this study.

  • Poly(anthranilic acid) was synthesized by rapid mixing method using 5-sulphosalicylic acid as a dopant. The synthesized polymer was characterized by various techniques like FT-IR, UV-Visible, and X-ray diffraction $etc.$, The FT-IR studies reveal that the 5-sulphosalicylic acid is well doped within the polymer. The morphological property was characterized by field emission scanning electron microscopic technique. The electrochemical properties of the polymer were studied by cyclic voltammetric method. The synthesized polymer was used to modify glassy carbon electrode (GCE) and the modified electrode was found to exhibit electrocatalytic activity for the oxidation of uric acid (UA).

  • Organic-inorganic hybrid solutions were made using glycidoxypropyl trimethoxysilane (GPTMS) and vinyltriethoxysilane (VTES) as starting materials by sol-gel method. Photochromic coating solutions were prepared by mixing the solution of photochromic dye (spiropyran) dissolved in ethylacetate with the organic-inorganic hybrid solutions. Photochromic films were prepared on polycarbonate sheets by spin coating and cured for 2 h at $100^{\circ}C$. The resulting films exhibited a reversible color change upon irradiation with UV light from transparent to blue. The color-fading speed and pencil hardness of the coating films increased with increasing the GPTMS content in the coating solutions.

  • Concrete structures in the marine environment often deteriorate in the early stage of their service life because of contact with various aggressive conditions. In recent years, the study on the concrete in the marine environment are carried out to increase their service life. In this experimental study, the concrete specimens were prepared with various adding contents of inorganic antifouling agent$(0\~3.0wt\%)$ composed to some fluosilicate solution. For evaluatin of the physical and chemical properties of concretes containing inorganic antifouling agent, various tests such as setting time, slump loss, compressive strength, water absorption rate, freezing and thawing resistance and SEM micrographs of concrete, were conducted. As the results, physical and chemical properties of concretes were improved with an adding of inorganic antifouling agent. From the results of various tests, the optimal adding contents of antifouling agent was $1.0wt\%$.

  • Inorganic chemical treated wood was prepared by impregnation of calcium or magnesium chloride ($CaCl_2$ or $MgCl_2$) solution and immersion in saturated solution of ammonium fluoride ($NH_4F$) as a reactant in order to make an introduction of a refractory fluorides with fungicidal and insecticidal effects in wood. The weight percent gains (WPGs) were increased with increase in concentration of calcium chloride or magnesium chloride solution, and were higher in treatment with calcium chloride than with magnesium chloride. Inorganic substances were produced mainly in the lumina of tracheides. These substances were proved to be the calcium fluoride or magnesium fluoride by the energy dispersive X-ray analyzer in conjunction with a scanning electron microscope (SEM-EDX). The treated wood showed good decay resistance because the weight losses were hardly occurred by the test fungi such as Tyromyces palustris and Trametes versicolor. The fire resistance effect was superior to the treated wood compared with that of the untreated wood.

  • Free base meso-tetraarylporphyrins ($H_2T(X)PP$) react with tellurium(IV) chloride ($TeCl_4$) in mild conditions for formation sandwich intermediate sitting-atop (i-SAT) complexes, [$TeCl_4(H_2T(X)PP)_2$]. $^1H$ NMR, $^{13}C$ NMR, UV-vis, FT-IR and elemental analysis were used for characterization of the products. In the proposed structure of the i-SAT complexes, four pyrroles of each porphyrin ring are tilted alternatively up and down and this appropriates suitable orientation of lone pairs of two pyrrolenine nitrogens for electron donation to a tellurium center. $^1H$ NMR and FT-IR results showed that in the produced complex, hydrogen atoms of porphyrin macrocycles remained on the pyrrole nitrogens.
