In this research, the performance predictions of the submersible mixer were investigated. The variation of the performance characteristics by changing the impeller design parameters were discussed through the flow calculation results by using a commercial program, FLUENT. The performance of the submersible mixers is related to the velocity diffusion profiles downstream of the impeller and also the required input motor power to mix the fluid. In this study, the various design parameters such as the number of blade, the hub and tip diameters, the impeller blade profiles and revolution speed of the blades were taken for the fixed values. The blade sweep direction, the chord length distribution along with the radius of the blade and the inlet blade angle were changed to make different testing models. The flow calculation results show the effect of the changed design parameters on the performance of the submersible mixers and also give some helpful information for designing more efficient submersible mixers.
This study has numerically modelled the combustion processes of the turbulent swirling premixed lifted flames in the low-swirl burner (LSB). In these turbulent swirling premixed flames, the four tangentially-injected air jets induce the turbulent swirling flow which plays the crucial role to stabilize the turbulent lifted flame. In the present approach, the turbulence-chemistry interaction is represented by the level-set based flamelet model.. Two-dimensional and three-dimensional computations are made for the various swirl numbers and nozzle length. In terms of the centerline velocity profiles and flame liftoff heights, numerical results are compared with experimental data The three-dimensional approach yields the much better conformity with agreements with measurements without any analytic assumptions on the inlet swirl profiles, compared to the two-dimensional approach. Numerical clearly results indicate that the present level-set based flamelet approach has realistically simulated the. structure and stabilization mechanism of the turbulent swirling stoichiometric and lean-premixed lifted flames in the low-swirl burner.

The effects of anode, cathode, and cooling channels for a Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell (PEMFC) on flow fields have been investigated numerically. Continuous open-faced fluid flow channels formed in the surface of the bipolar plates traverse the central area of the plate surface in a plurality of passes such as a serpentine manner. The pressure distributions and velocity profiles of the hydrogen, air and water channels on bipolar plates of the PEMFC are analyzed using a two-dimensional simulation. The conservation equations of mass, momentum, and energy in the three-dimensional flow solver are modified to include electro-chemical characteristics of the fuel cell. In our three-dimensional numerical simulations, the operation of electro-chemical in Membrane Electrolyte Assembly (MEA) is assumed to be steady-state, involving multi-species. Supplied gases are consumed by chemical reaction. The distributions of oxygen and hydrogen concentration with constant humidity are calculated. The concentration of hydrogen is the highest at the center region of the active area, while the concentration of oxygen is the highest at the inlet region. The flow and thermal profiles are evaluated to determine the flow patterns of gas supplied and cooling plates for an optimal fuel cell stack design.
In the present study, flow characteristics of turbulent pulsating flow in a square-sectional 180$^{\circ}$curved duct were experimentally investigated. The experimental study for air flows in a curved duct are carried out to measure axial velocity profiles, wall shear stress distributions and entrance length in a square-sectional 180$^{\circ}$curved duct by using the Laser Doppler Velocimeter(LDV) system and the data acquisition. Velocity profiles are obtained using the Rotating Machinery Resolver(RMR)and PHASE software in case of turbulent pulsating flow. Finally, it was plotted by the ORIGIN software. The experiment was conducted in seven sections from the inlet (ø = 0$^{\circ}$) to the outlet (ø=l80$^{\circ}$) at 3 0$^{\circ}$intervals of the duct.

In this study the flow characteristics of developing turbulent pulsating flows in a square-sec-tional 180。 curved duct are investigated experimentally. The experimental study of air flow in a square-sectional curved duct is carried out to measure axial velocity distribution secondary flow velocity profiles and wall shear stress distributions by using a Laser Doppler Velocimetry system with the data acquisition and processing system of Rotating Machinery Resolver (RMR) and PHASE software at the entrance region of the duct which is divided into 7 sections from the inlet(${{\o}}=0_{\circ}$) to the outlet (${{\o}}=180_{\circ}$) in $30_{\circ}$ intervals. The results obtained from the study are summarized as follows: (1) The time-averaged critical Dean number of turbulent pulsating flow(De ta, cr) is greater than $75{\omega}+$ It is understood that the critical Dean number and the critical Reynolds number are related to the dimensionless angular frequency in a curved duct. (2) Axial velocity profiles of turbulent pulsating flows are of an annular type similar to those of turbulent stead flows. (3) Secondary flows of trubulent pulsating flows are strong and complex at the entrance region. As velocity amplitudes(A1) become larger secondary flows become stronger. (4) Wall shear stress distributions of turbulent pulsating flows in a square-sectional $180_{\circ}$ curved duct are exposed variously in the outer wall and are stabilized in the inner wall without regard to the phase angle.
An improved mass spectrometric method for multicomponent analysis of metabolites in urine, well-suited for clinical biochemistry, is described. The method involves solvent elution of the metabolites from an adsorbent and the concentration of the eluate on a microadsorption column. This is administered by a direct inlet probe into the ionizing source of field ionization mass spectrometry (FIMS), which yield a molecular weight profile of the metabolites. The procedure provides rapidly (within one hour) reproducible profiles from a small volume of urine. The optimization of the sampling technique and the reproducibility are discussed.
The characteristic of unsteady flowfields on gas turbine, particularly on a rotor blade surface has been numerically investigated. The unsteady flow in a rotor blade passage as a result of wake/blade interaction is modeled by the inviscid flow approach, and solved by Euler equations using a time accurate marching scheme. Unsteady flow in the blade passage is induced by periodically moving a wake model across the passage inlet. The wake model used in this study is the Gaussian wate model in which the wake flow is assumed to be parallel with uniform static pressure and uniform relative total enthalpy. Numerical results show that for the case of Ps/Pr=1.5, the velocity and pressure distribution on the blade surfaces have much more complex profiles than for the case of Ps/Pr=1.0.
Unsteady fluid dynamics analysis of flow characteristics inside a Metal DPF system is done using a commercial CAE software, CFD-ACE+. The time profiles of both temperature and pressure of exhaust gas are given as initial conditions. It was found that the position of connecting pipes and the numbering of exhaust gases did not affect the flow uniformity. The presence of a DPF resulted in the significant flow nonuniformity effect on the flow characteristics at the inlet of the DPF. Present results can be applied to the selection of optimal geometry that produces uniform flow characteristics inside a DPF system.
The purpose of this study is to compare the predictive behaviors of the extended $k-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence model and the standard $k-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence model. Grid dependency is tested with the H-type grid and the O-type grid. Computations have been performed for a circular-to-rectangular transition duct. Numerical results for several sections along the streamwise have been obtained to compare with experimental results. The Reynolds number is 390,000 based on the bulk velocity at the inlet. The computed axial velocity contours, transverse velocity profiles, static pressure contours, peripheral skin friction coefficient, and peripheral wall static pressure distributions have been compared with experimental results. The computed results obtained with the extended $k-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence model show better agreement with experimental results than those obtained with the standard $k-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence model. Comparing to the computed results obtained with the H-type grid and O-type grid, those with H-type grid agree well with experimental results.
